arturo garces, our brother from the west coast, returns to robsoul with his looking for strangers ep. loved by the robsoul community for his beats from the streets series, the san jose resident first appeared on the label back in 2012 with a trio of tracks that made up vol.1. two more collections followed and firmly established arturo as one of the labels most exciting talents. a label boss himself, arturo is seen as having helped define what is known as the silicon valley sound. his own blend of beat-laden house infused with elements of soul, funk and disco has seen him become a favourite with the likes of sneak, farina and weeks.
looking for strangers opens with the latin guitar licks of the title track before we are treated to the deeper jackin vibes and delicious chords of bassment beat. the vicious kick drum of no fool leads us on the flip, with its awesome stabs of soul. in motion featuring the subtle and sultry vocals of silencia closes the ep with its twisted filters and bass-heavy beats.

here comes the second blind spot music vinyl with some of our favourite techno artists on the board. the original track scattered produced by the japanese ryuji takeuchi and it is a proper peak time smasher. ryuji after a few remixes is finally landing with an original track on blind spot music. in the past techno fans have heared his unique style on various releases on label likes of nachtstrom schallplatten, sick weird rough, huehelix or his own imprint local sound network.

a couple of years into honing their skills in the studio and behind the booths, the very dynamic duo known as andhim returns to get physical to present us with spayce, the latest specimen of their self-christened super house genre. raised on a steady diet of hip hop and jazz, the cologne-native pair have proven to many far and wide that they are entertainers at heart and envelope-pushers by nature. taking turntables where they seldom go to turn them into instruments, as well as the heavy use of samples and real-world inspiration to set their own creations apart, its fair to say that spayce is just another example of the duos eclectic, eccentric inclinations. two tracks long and spanning from dance floor epic to quirky by way of some particular glitch, piano work and musical hiccups, spayce ep is a very sweet addition to an already original discography.

next up on ellum witnesses the salubrious dino lenny delivers a double-header of epic proportions on his its saturday single. the a side its saturday is a heavy as hell piece of colossal techno loaded with a kick like a mule and enigmatic vocals to boot. on the flip and we are indulged with another hefty affair i am changing, with another vocal led jacking heavy hitter with vocals courtesy of dino again. serious stuff for discerning dance floors, speakers beware! dino has been making music for since the late 90s having remixed everyone from madonna to underworld, and have been championed by everyone from peter tong, the chemical brothers and maceo plex. this fantastic ellum debut is tantamount to his electronic wizardry.

the first installment in a double issue of brand new cleric productions drops with figure 64. the young british producer has released a handful of 12s over the last few years, issuing forth a bold, club targeted sound with a keen ear for clarity and full-spectrum sonics. now we are treated to a wide ranging and impressive new wave of work, over 8 tracks on 2x12s, from cleric on figure. taking us head first into the action, >avoid the subject< presents a crazy dystopia of arpeggiated synth bleeps, dancing and filtering around a heavy trademark cleric drum barrage. at once recognisable, part-insane and part-paranoid funk, its a strong statement to start the ep.

ah, yes! finally some real flavours to sink our teeth into. the nose is truly a work of art. first the classic peaty smoke but so distinctly understated. confident in it s maturity. the salty pineapple citrus is next coupled with a refined lemon- lime toffee tartness. and finally a whiff of fresh cucumber sprinkled with the loveliest of white pepper. oh, yes. this is what weve been waiting for! the creamy mouthfeel is laced with intense black peppers but then mellows out to give you honey, lemon and chocolate with a dash of tobacco. the long peppery finish is fruity with a hint of limestone. these are the classic flavours that made linkwood one of the top distilleries and expressions should be on your list of malts to try before you die.

a collaboration between elias landberg and nihad tule. they started this conceptual project in november 2014 with the goal of record and master a complete ep in one day. the resulting analog jams are pretty different from each other. the a-side terrorfish is reminiscent of simplistic acid rave tunes from the 90s while the b-side halcyon is a dreamy ambient trip
entitled narita, the release is inspired by, and dedicated to, japan, and the tracks are a collage of all the experiences and emotions the producer has picked up there whilst on his travels. this release was also due to be the 44th on the label (which has now made it up to number 67) and so has clearly been cooking for a long time. once again it proves the man behind it to be focused on stripped back and hypnotic grooves, shadowy textures and subliminal synths that are abstract and truly heady. up first, sleepless is a spooky and hypnotic techno roller with icy pads and rubber drums that roll on like a haunted midnight train burrowning deep into your brain. ebisu is even more reserved, with just a light, skipping kick and tinkling, glassy keys suspending you in a wide open space of abstract atmospheric soun d. on th e flip side, mountain splitter is more urgent and immediate, with nervy pads this time racing alongside woodpecker precision and supple drums. it s heady stuff that really distracts you from the world before finally trance is a wash of grainy white noise and groaning synths that soundtrack a word deep down in the depths of the ocean. svreca is a master of getting deep inside both body and brain and does so in different but captivating ways with all four of these cuts.
