i-robots is an alias of opilec music boss gianluca pandullo, a long time dj and producer with a penchant for classic techno and electro cosmic disco. for his next project in the esteemed i-robots reconstructions concept series the italian re-edits some classic material, all with the permission of the original artists. the tracks in question are derrick mays hugely influential *emanon* cut, recorded under his rhythim is rhythim alias and originally released in the 1990s on his own seminal transmat records label – one of the most important imprints in the early days of techno alongside kms and metroplex. the second track – which was first released on metroplex, the label juan atkins founded in 1985 and then re-released and reworked on sound vision - is *game one* produced by the legendary juan atkins and orlando voorn as infiniti. the latter of these pair has already released a number of times on the opilec music label.

raised in haifa, israel, now located in amsterdam, this duo of sonic explorers have had acclaimed releases on a host of cult labels like psychostasia, underground quality, dekmantel & many more. having already released the incredible *release the golem pt. 1* & *jewsex* on everyones favourite nyc label, the pair make ready with their most claustrophobic and menacing outing yet. the original version on the a side stays in the same tempo territory as their dekmantel classic *african flower* but concocts a much more spacious and heady atmosphere, reminiscent of mark gages vapourspce project. side b takes us directly to the dancefloor, utilising the same bubbling bass sequence but transposing it onto a devastingly propulsive rhythm track, like the angry cousin of their *bleached roots* and *powow* classics. a formidablle force in modern dance music, at the height of their powers!

lil jabba isnt like the rest of them. while they are busy joining the dots between house and techno or whatever is safe right now, he is throwing paint all over the page. he is not american, but he is affiliated with chicagos teklife crew (dj spinn, dj rashad, etc.) and divides his time between baltimore and brooklyn, exhibiting his visual art, riding around with his bike gang and making some of the most hypnotic juke and footwork you will ever hear. local action have been figuring out a release with him for over a year - eventually an ep wasnt enough, and they persuaded him to make it a full-length album, scales. some of scales has already seen the light of day through youtube or limited cassette releases, some of it is unheard. some tracks sound cleaner than others, that is because they are newer. that is how these things work. what is consistent throughout scales is the quality: across 12 tracks, jabba flips, twists and inverts the footwork template with endless layers of samples, gurgled vocal tags, jazz licks and whatever else he feels like. these arent trax, they are tapestries.

more than six years into his career after several eps and a full album, there isn’t much known about ben gibson, and he is clearly keeping it that way with intent. gibson first emerged on jeff mills’ experimental, influential 6277 sublabel but then again vanished into the ether, he only reappeared three years later on perc trax, even more surprisingly with a full-length. since then, he’s gone on to steadily more notice with perc’s imprint, sect records, and most recently m_rec ltd in spite of the continuing lack of information. exposure isn’t the most important thing for us at chronicle though, and after hearing these five tracks, we saw exactly what it is that drew mills to him from the beginning. it is a sound that we find a perfect fit for the techno futurism of our chronicle series, and here we offer a platform for gibsons more sci-fi, ethereal sounding material, exclusively on vinyl for the fifth edition of our sublabel.
