after recently playing host to established names such as fabe, nima gorji and michael james, pathway traxx returns to its roots by introducing a new artist, but long time friend wiremu. this pure club record, and vocal infused ep is set to light up a dance floor near you very soon. wiremu brings his unique chugging sound by the bucket load while label boss niko keeps it smooth on the b-side.

for the 12th installment of jose cabrera’s self-titled imprint, mario castillo appears under his long running kastil moniker to deliver a four track ep of mechanical dance floor sounds. with anemic lust, the resident of vitoria-gasteiz, comes up with a worthy addition to his rapidly growing discography. after a period of diy work through his own label stale, castillo returns to the imprint where he last released his collaboration album with j.c. in 2017.

opilec music s eclectic remix series rolls on with another essential package, this time tackling a single from label boss i-robots s law of robotics album back in 2008. adding their own spin to things are red axes and hiroshi watanabe aka kaito after likes of kuniyuki takahashi, djembe monks, danny ocean, los hermanos, gary martin, alexander robotnick, daniele baldelli & marco dionigi have all stepped up previously. isreali duo red axes go first, a pair known for mixing up synths and guitars in exciting new ways on labels like hivern discs, i m a cliche and esp institute amongst others. their excellent version of the track re-works it as a deep and spine tingling house cut. moody chords lull you into a hypnotic and zoned out groove that is finished with some intoxicating spoken words. hiroshi watanabe aka kaito is next, an acclaimed kompakt and transmat artist who makes succulent techno with ambient atmospheres. his brilliant version here is just that, with cosmic chords and slippery rubber beats carrying you away into the night. warm and inviting, it elevates you to the next level over its long length, it is a classy bit of techno that also comes as a stripped back instrumental version.

label boss yse is back on pft with the long anticpated follow up to his gesamtkunstwerk ep which made it into kai alci s best of 2015 chart. if you have been following ant plate s productions under his various guises (yse, yse saint laur ant, rhythm plate, vengaboys) you know what to expect - deep, quirky, innovative house music that sounds like nothing else out there. this ep doesn t disappoint - the grooves on here are impeccable from start to finish. opener unstoppable builds the tension nicely with nagging strings and chords before letting loose with the drums. sun shadow was actually selected by red rack em as one of his best of 2017 despite not even being released. now that s literally being ahead of your time. the robot boogie of all we are is guaranteed to stop heads on the dancefloor with it s unique vocal and syncopated shuffle. closing track you told me slows the tempo slightly and is one for the deeper moments.

atangana records’s back with its second release, once again a long-awaited reissue, once again digging into the caribbean music with a classic track from les maxel’s (from guadeloupe), “le retour de toto”. as usual, the remastered tune comes with a remix and a b2 “just” coming with the remixer’s add parts. originally out in 1976, “le retour de toto” on disques debs international is a brilliant dancefloor killer, magnifying the cross-world between zouk and latino music, biguine and calypso. you can hear from the prominent hi-hat all the energy of the dance moves you could improvise on that kind of joint. with a lot of break, wonderful horns and backing vocals, “le retour de toto” will enjoy all the summer dancefloor and airwaves for some time

an astronomical conjunction has cropped up. arpanet is back after a long interstellar hibernation and 30drop comes up with its particular vision of the abstract elektro for the very first time. “phases ep” takes the primal warp’s heritage blending hypnotic melodies with rhythmically complex patterns. arpanet, which keeps the exquisiteness of its previous works for rephlex, among other labels, gazes into the black profoundness of its own and unique universe. 30drop’s two cuts, ostensibly touched by the aphex twin spirit, are a spellbinding exercise of style. “phases ep” is experimental, atmospheric, rhythmic and, above all, flawless. this enthralling ep is presented in electric blue vinyl. a special shape for a very special alliance.

broken arrows are sudeep menon & bill ambrose, both long time affiliates of magic waves radio and cyber dance records. here they don 4 new tracks for the vivod imprint making up their second ep. a slight departure in style from their first outing on giallo disco a couple of years ago, these tracks still have that unique mechanic box jam sound they are becoming known for. female predator kicks things off in a techno fashion. charging drums lead the way with a cool throbbing bassline. fear eats the soul is more of an instrumental 80s wave track with its laid back pads and structure looping away with ease. title track edge of darkness is the stand out track on this ep and won t fail to hypnotize. meandering pads in a cosmische style with rock solid drums , simply awesome. basic structures finishes the ep off and this is more towards their jamming style from their previous ep, more aggressive, blistering hats, slamming kicks et. great ep again from broken arrows !

sharif laffrey can charm the snake out of any basket. this is his first offering for the esp institute. side as tangier is a long drawn-out exercise, an endurance test of the highest order. over the span of some thirteen minutes, elements bob and weave intermittently and layers overlap haphazardly the type of exciting dynamic that s born out of restrictio as if putting down a live jam without enough hands to work the console, yet sharif perseveres. as touch and go as this arrangement may be, there is something that undoubtedly glues it all in place the combination of his massive rolling 16th-note bassline and his tough-as-nails drumkit is so good that, upon first listen, we spat out our tea and insisted on its release. on side b, everything is nice carries on with loose arrangement, dirty production and layers of inexplicable spoken word samples (a sharif calling card by now) but this time we re lead to a melancholy place, the blue comedown to side as antagonistic trial. with his esp institute debut, sharif leaves you mentally unhinged, as if youve smoked something interesting and arrived bewildered in some saharan labyrinth. these two songs will guide you through the medina to score the black meat.

surface records has never pulled any punches as one of the uks toughest, strangest techno labels, and the 65d mavericks have embodied the same spirit with their charged, lyrically provocative approach. after a lengthy hiatus label and artist are back in action, and sounding as fierce as ever. false prophets is not for the faint hearted an avalanche of thunderous drums and expletive-laden diatribes. cosmic drift is marginally more meditative, but still positively unhinged in its execution. you lost your mind flails around a muddy, punky swamp of deviant sonic behaviour, and immovable (dub) throws one last curveball into the long grass, stripping out the bark without losing the bite of this proudly individual group of techno marauders.

two berlin underdogs and a detroit ravemaster. a driving force in the very early frankfurt electronics since the late 80s, to hardcore acid in brooklyn in the early 90s, producing legends as carlos peron among many others along his way, adsx aka andre fischer might sound new to many but has been an active part of the underground electronic movement for the last 30 years. benji df aka hanoben is no newbie to the scene either and might have soundtracked your night if you were to be found at clubs like tresor or snax in the late 90s. together they recorded an ode to aural sex, its acid counterpart, and a genius sketch of a club banger. when label honcho capablanca heard the latter had little doubts about commissioning an extended mix to motor city s special forces gen. sharif laffrey aka thee activator, who needs little introduction to the discerning raver ears as the man behind instant acid classics turn it up and always, among others. after countless studio days and nights and endless versions (we stopped counting at 56th) sharif delivers what is possibly his best work to date, an unstoppable 12 minute dancefloor annihilator. to wrap such special release we asked legend alan oldham aka ur s minister of information aka dj t-1000, (also responsible for label designs for transmat, djax, submerge, pure sonik and a long etcetera) to create one of his classic artworks. capablanca deconstructs his center pieces for the fully printed sleeve, and everybody s.c.r.e.a.m.

edition of 300 copies ... many years in the works, ogon batto finally unleashes his album hedoro. a journey into japanese soundtracks and 90s adventure-gaming. ogon batto is bent von bent from antwerp, belgium. besides working as a visual artist around archiving systems and collections, he is also the co-runner of the hare akedod label, together with david edren aka dsr lines. following his debut release, &#332,,,,,,gon batto secretly started working on a second album hedoro, meaning slime or chemical ooze.

attention: the case has a broken corner. ltd 180 copies - incl dl code , this cassette collects some of these stills, or better said freeze frames. freeze frames that become almost landscapes that one can enter or not, listen closely to or use as mere background ambience. wilson went in and untied the knot, yet while investigating the situation, posing more questions. this is as open-ended a release can get, so captiously simple. i met andrew wilson, (aka berko, art wilson, andras), a few months ago in tokyo where we were both to perform on a sort of balearic ambient variety show in the heart of shibuya. at some point andrew was telling me about his interest in youtube videos of truck accidents, animals attacking people and bloopers. with creating one-shot samples of these sort of popular fringe finds he started creating long-form drones of harmonic beauty, without being overtly and subjectively emotional. wilson presented some of these pieces on said night in tokyo, in a dandyesque manner all dressed in white, sitting behind a small restaurant table

finally realized, here s one that was long on the dkr wish list. among the very finest moments from both artists, these brilliant interpolations of curtis classics have been unavailable too long. a mesmerizing rhythm adorned with the lovely sounds of hand drums, melodica and flute, mixed and dubbed to perfection by king tubby himself. this 12inch is a 6 track ep, with all four cuts as originally released on two separate 45s, plus two unreleased mixes straight off the original tapes. we like to think tubbs favored these cuts, as so many mixes were done! the dub titled super cool is, in our humble opinion, one of tubby s top 10 extant mixes. full disclosure, all tracks except super cool pt. 2 come from the original jamaican mastertapes. we suspect the pt. 2 mix was lost somewhere in nyc, but don t let that trouble you, this one should please all who have ears.

in ancient lddlm times, blddlm even, belgium could well have been the freaky house and ecstasy center of the world. if only we could remember all the lost hours. but after all, as the brussel saying goes: its friday, tomorrow is tuesday. at lddlm, we try not to reminisce, that was just setting the mood.we are very happy to welcome arthur johnson in our non-fold, a young producer from liege via marseille and la dame noir. aj is amongst those ever mutating artists, his u-turns slowly composing a real personality, and one fitting our contrarian attitude. in a way perfect stranger reminds us of a good 90’s farley/heller remix, not so much camp fire island than almost sweaty late night trancer. we love those tracks that do not fit our ethos a priori but that we can’t stop playing. cosmo vitelli is a long time family friend and he beams up this stranger through the axis into some kind of romantic italo-german anthem. ballada and secretary discordia show a different side of aj, a dub march echoing dif juz and a percussive machine funk number. we sincerely hope aj keeps on straying for the best, his way being our way.

the hotly tipped uk artist makes his debut for drumcode s vinyl only off-shoot. focused on showcasing cutting-edge underground techno, adam beyer s always got an eye on the future when curating drumcode ltd. with impressive releases on tigas twin turbo and dense & pikas kneaded pains imprint, 24-year-old billy turner piqued his interest with his accomplished productions that belied his tender age. taking inspiration from the likes of marcel dettmann, truncate and planetary assault systems, turner s four-track debut dont talk to me about style was birthed in his home studio throughout 2017. the industrious brit delivers a powerful peak-time ep of nocturnal techno that moves between different moods. the title track pops with a thick grinding bassline and trippy synth effects, before escape envelopes you into a subterranean world. diodes follows, a fantastic slice of electrifying techno that bucks like a rodeo bull. the ep concludes with the blazing tunnel, that makes its mark with deft drum arrangements and a piercing call-to-arms siren.

not much info on this one. two serious cuts on a hand stamped red record with a d2b logo. think fast, these wont hang around for long.

next up is berlin s christopher rau with his -f.m.e. hustle- long player. the long time firm favourite delivers 11 tracks full of hiss and soul. from driven dub techno to cool house and ambient excursions rau travels far without loosing the interrelation.

hard times call for good music. this time around times are ruff (tar) dedicated their beat fabricating skills to a double ep for tomorrow is now, kid! the tink! project will put some raw, deep, soulful and garage tunes in your ears. as a dj collective, times are ruff is heavily influenced by the windy city, taking inspiration from the past, but never sounding outdated. focussing on long - preferably all night - dj sets in which times are ruff strives to set itself apart and tell a true musical story to the audience.

fans of the berlin based nils frahm are by now familiar with his beguiling live shows where more often than not fellow touring artists are encouraged to join frahm on stage – the likes of rachel grimes, rob lowe of balmorhea as well as label colleagues peter broderick and Ólafur arnalds have all obliged with fascinating results. it will come as no surprise then that nils frahm, an accomplished composer and producer who signed to erased tapes in 2009, has extended his collaborative live musings to encompass the recording studio, working for the first time with noted cellist and fellow berliner anne müller to produce 7fingers.
with their first collective release frahm and müller have built a world where modern classical and electronica collide creating an intoxicating and delicious collection of songs. primarily a pianist nils frahm provides evidence with 7fingers that he can effortlessly turn electric throwing in loops, samples and glitches to accompany and showcase müller on cello. anne müller, a renowned musician noted for her work with the wolf-ferrari-ensemble, phillip boa and recent tours with agnes obel, proves an amp musical partner for frahm.

after the highly successful first volume in the stag-o-lee dj set series we present volume 2. again an 80 minute set - this time by stuttgart based dj joe whirlypop. joe is a jack of all trades, someone who can make a wedding crowd dance, is well versed in new wave and punk and everything in between. but his biggest love is the 50’s and early 60’s. he is playing all over stuttgart for years, but these two discs reflect his monthly shake your bones residency at stuttgarts famous goldmarks club. expect all kinds of blues - from jump to rhythm & to raw electric.

if there is one album that we would take with us an a desert island its this one. the worst of krtm is one of the most refreshing records we have heard in a long time. perfectly blending industrial techno and hardcore to one unique beautiful/terrifying work of art. we could almost write a book on how unique and great this album is but lets just stop here and let the music do the talking. all hail krtm!

in the 1990s the collaboration between influential german artists klaus schulze and pete namlook led to the famous the dark side of the moog series. it’s an hour-long journey into space territory with a mixture of modern and classic electronic music. droning sounds flying all around, before the different parts are kicking in. the futuristic music marked them down as true innovators and it’s another great trip through their musical world. pressing on audiophile 180 gram vinyl, with the front covers of volume 1 to volume 4 form one image together.

electronic music label sheik n beik announces its new release snbv013, an ep called daisy cutter by jem. this ep is the third release in their series aimed at celebrating the diversity and history of new york and its boroughs. as sheik n beik s hometown and source of constant inspiration, the label focuses on spotlighting and paying homage to the five boroughs of new york including manhattan, queens, brooklyn, staten island and the bronx. each borough s flag is given a modern and colorful twist via the cover art and design of each outer jacket. the first release in the series, manhattan, featured local nyc hero and co-founder of voodoo down records n conduit, and the second, kathisma resident mr. dello s vaadhoo ep. the new ep from jem, dedicated to the bronx, opens up with title track daisy cutter, which directly sets the tone of the release with a straightforward, dynamic techno, elevated by an eerie, dark atmosphere. it goes on with neb, a downtempo second track with a lighter tone that progressively gets back to the initial mysterious mood and capriciously brightens it with warmer back-and-forth sounds. next on the 12- is semiotic, a third track structured by a clever balance of deconstructed rhythms and sparse acid and synth melodies in the continuity of the lighter, warmer mood previously built up. the ep ends with temple, with a more aggressive accent animated by several lighter melodic layers and a stifled background bass.

the b side features ‘witchdance dub’, richard fearless’ long-held remix of ‘witchdance’ off trans-love energies, featuring the haunting vocals of katie stelmanis from austra. fearless cut three dubplates of ‘witchdance dub’ after he mixed this track. dj harvey has one, prosumer the other, and fearless kept the 3rd: delicate acetates that have been played out sparingly but with electric effect. this track is effortless, minimal dance music imbued with fearless’ unique production sound- it’s not one to miss.

only one month after the release of their first ep on mt on may 2018, vactrol park continue surprising, this time with a full lp in the shape of “music from the luminous void”.the album sees vp delve much deeper into more atmospheric realms. using modular synths and unexpected drum machine sequencing they leave the 4x4 beats behind in favor of off-world rhythms and ever growing bass. &#8232,,,,, starting with drops’s high frequency tension, laying on top of those heavy kick drums it keeps on growing and growing. from there it moves to the “end of the party” groove that is novikov’s notation, and its trippy monotonic rhythm. the a-side ends with the heavy sampled ambient track macbeth, bringing forward that mesmerizing flute solo by italian artist luca spagnoletti yet succeeding in avoiding the kitsch, and with a touch of class. &#8232,,,,,&#8232,,,,,the b-side delves even deeper into ambience and atmospheric muzak. starting with bells, that features again spagnoletti on flute. then we get into the real gems of the album - anstruther and glove. the first is a pure trip into modular psychedelia and repetitive jazzy-like drum rhythms, creating tension right from the start and plays with it throughout the track before decaying slowly into glove, which is in sense both the catharsis and the decompression session of the album. like a 2018 version of vangelis, this track’s soundscape will keep you dreaming with your eyes closed long after the album ends. &#8232,,,,,
