after “theory of strings (part1)” ennio colaci and fabio della torre present the second part! the first track of a-side is the one who gives the title to the whole project, - theory of strings-, a dubby groover with a funky and psychedelic feel in the vein of a more coloured and dirtier studio 1 or soundhack. the -feeling good vibe- keeps going relaxed and chill with the smart up and down mood of the track -forty degrees- while on b side minimono get drier, minimalistic and more mysterious with the subtle after-hour jam of rewind. this strong effort by fabio and ennio ends trough the cinematic atmosphere and the romantic piano notes of the gentle but raw closing act -still mine-. mind the strings!

dominatrix is a synth-pop/electro project from the 80’s, best remembered for their 1984 club hit, “the dominatrix sleeps tonight”. the brains behind this new york city based project is producer/songwriter stuart argabright, whose other projects over the years have included ike yard, black rain, the futants, the death comet crew, the dystopians, and the voodooists.
the story behind this project began one night when a young stuart met a beautiful mysterious older women in a corvette while hitchhiking. they became friends, spending nights at her east side apartment, getting high and listening to bowie records. after argabright noticed the bull whips and manacles hanging in her closet, it became apparent that his friend’s occupation was chaining up, whipping, and torturing upscale manhattan businessmen (who were very willing victims and had the credit card bills to prove it). this project came to life because of his sincere admiration and respect for professional dominatrixes.
this is a limited edition on white vinyl with un-released tracks from dominatrix.

rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

general ludd are back with sunset yellow, their third ep for us in as many years. this one picks up where “are you losing my hearing?” left off with three more doses of heady drum breaks and spacey synth lines that have been psyching out our dance floor in new york for quite some time now with no negative side effects.

rivulet records are continuing their release just where the compilation at the beginning of the year left us. again bringing 4 artists together on one release shifting between dusty, mellow house and some how twisted techno. peonies from russia, who has been releasing tapes on his own label „summer night“ since 1 year, sets the mood for the record with his track „soft light“ which sounds almost like a dim, fading memory of a club night full of classy house records. the rework by ital, the head behind „lovers rock“ from new york, builds up the mood in a complete different, driving and technoid atmosphere. the b-side is the first cooperation between two very old friends, berni from trier and jonas palzer from berlin, both part of portray records. their tracks are playing with the same kind of hauntology as the a—side, building up a sound that is familiar and distant in the same way - referring to old records by boards of canada as well as to the contemporary sound of „house“ at its best meaning.

if you love contemporary minimal music, then you are certainly familiar with the greek artist stathis leontiadis. with his bands human puppets, exetix and plexiglas this musician became one of the stars of the genre. now he is back with doric. with this solo project he already released a single and an album on fabrika and a 10- on domestica. the new release is once again a 10-, this time on peripheral minimal. doric uses a special concept. the a-side is the so-called asleep side and is about loneliness: music that sounds paranoid. sleep of reason is almost unbearable, it s madness driven by minimal electronics. everything is very danceable, but this is the dance of madness. the minimal sound comes straight from the 80s. over my dreamssounds a bit like the early parade ground. simply great! head against the wall (a title that needs little explanation) is slow and compelling.

one of house musics true originators, todd terry was first discovered by pioneering new york house imprint fourth floor records. now the label has collected four of his earliest and most essential productions on to one 12inch vinyl. the a-side houses a pair of tracks created under his black riot alias in 1988, both featuring his trademark raw, jacking drums. the unmistakable rave stabs on a day in the life were to reappear on countless hardcore records, testament to the tracks influence, whilst the cut-and-paste sample patchwork of warlock defines the house sound of that era. meanwhile, the b-side features two tracks as masters at work, a moniker that todd would later pass on to his friends little louie vega and kenny dope gonzalez. both alright alright and dum dum cry, originally released in 1987, exhibit terrys musical roots, combining hip-hop breakbeats, powerful electro-funk and playful freestyle melodies in his inimitable style.

recovering from the gray decay of the winter here in berlin, we are more than ready to push forward farther into the future. in order to do so the powers at chronicle have aligned a new musical offering to test the palate of those who know, and those who care. we are pleased to present six tracks from the prolific arnaud le texier, who has made waves for years with his children of tomorrow imprint and renowned taste. from cosmic interludes to heavy hitting transcendence, arnaud manages to showcase all sides of his production skills as they translate into a compelling and emotive narrative. among them stands a tribute to one who was lost along the way that we simply do not want to forget. only rarely in this life do we stand witness to gures that make a true impression, an imprint that continues to leave a mark long after the original has passed. max_m was one of these gures, and it is through his music and immensely dignified curatorial prowess that his legacy will live on. arnaud’s poignant tribute stands as a personal note amongst an ep full of forceful techno suitable for deep space exploration

another split is on the way of the suburban avenue team. this is the turn of two young and talented producers coming from the new school, both nostalgic of the techno of the origins: birth of frequency and mike storm a side is entrusted to the refined hands of the french producer, a1 no wonder” is a brilliant and direct techno track inspired by british school of the nineties. a2 the fugitive” is deeper and hypnotic. the precious b side is made by the dutch producer mike storm, both tracks b1 the one we know” and b2 into formation” are minimalistic and represent some old school spaced out techno trips retro-futuristic affairs continue..

dubtil’s debut for amphia comes in line with the previous 10 releases’ tagline: tailoring new musical perspectives into the multidimensional universe of electronic music. the opener -indoiala- sticks into our brains with its slow decaying voices, pitched down to embrace the devilishly simple percussion. keeping the same eerie approach to his idea of dancefloor oriented loops, dubtil completes side a with -alta schema-, another typical kick-led experience enveloped into a more haunting bassline. bearing a deep house dna yet not losing contact with the dancefloor energy through its breaks pattern, side b’s -repet slap repet- opens the gates to the abstract structure of -contrar-, an apparently chaotic contiguity of weird samples, glued to each other by the minimalistic bassline. jumping from one genre to another, confronting dusty preconcieved ideas just to turn them into a fresh sound: dubtil’s imagination fountain is far from getting dry! we now have the tangible proof.

materia ep is the second installment of ruhig s double ep, inaugurated with particles ep in january 2016. originally the records were supposed to be out in the same period, but due to problems with our ex-distribution, materia ep got postponed of few months. the release starts with the transcendent trento, respecting ruhig s tradition of broken beats idm deep techno leaning openers. consecutive cut the vector is a thumping mixtures of drones and heavyweight hihats designed with some attention for dancefloor. the slow-burner materia delivers some powerful mist-shrouded kicks on the b-side, that wraps up with sciame, a massive droning wave of electro wasps, which still keeps some classy chilled out elements somewhere in the background, behind the thunderous main drums. vinyl unfortunately left no space for the extra only digital track 1870, this last one is percussive retro-futuristic jam of psychedelic mouth arp and huge mallets drums. the track will be available for free download in the same period of the vinyl

the activ-analog collective return under this name for the first time in 10 years with a blistering new ep on lisbon s assemble music. taken from group live jams which are mixed down and tweaked on the fly, these four tracks recall the explosive simplicity of daniel bell s output on accelerate, both a-side tracks all whacked-out acid and basslines cut through by razor sharp hats and claps. the b-side sees the addition of the same woozy pads that defined their venerated night shift eps from the late 90s, taking the mood far into the afterhours. hard but with a light touch, funky and clean - in one word, irresistible.

finish techno pioneer and dum records boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk and melody boy 2000 is back with another fine ep of some of his greatest tracks. all three have been released before now, but never all together on the same ep. a1 sound stealer was released in 2007 under the melody boy 200 alias and since then has been hugely sought after, often fetching high prices on discogs. it is a high impact techno track with racing drums and chattery percussion that will take any floor by storm. a2 all alone, again as melody boy 2000, has only been released on cd before now, as part of a label compilation back in 2002. this one is deep and rubbery, spaced out and elastic and is full of moodiness and melody. both b-side tracks were written as mono junk and both were written in 1992. first up, apache acid came on vinyl own music man and is a face melting, hundred miler per hour banger with manic 303s buried within. finally, ‘beyond the darkness’ was a key early techno track to come from finland and has previously been released on dum010. says the artist of the track, “an ensoniq asr-10 arrived on the market and studio engineer perttu bought it right away, but i never liked to use sounds that someone else had made. we sampled the track’s bassline, strings and others from my jx-3p separately and mixed it all together.” the result is an atmospheric track with swirling pads, icy synths and form drums that will make people march, no doubt.

after a one year hiatus, berlin s michael melchner is finally back in a memorable way with a new release on colt music. three original cuts that do not need any futher explanation with ? came first as the main track, followed by a more personal version on the b side. closing things off, prague adds the spice with a funky minimal tool track.

the ninth ep from the magic waves label comes courtesy of the enigmatic and mysterious voiceover woman. we are given four tracks of modern electro-psychedelic wizardry that will surely melt your mind, as well as any dancefloor it comes into contact with. opening the record is ‘input sensitive’, and we’re plunged into a world of swirling synthesiser emotions from the start, tripping hard into ‘mega gift’, a monster of a track that not only shifts the speed up a gear or three but funks it out in spaced-up futuristic ways too. side b brings us ‘total rotation plug-on’ and takes us deeper into lush aphexian dreamscape dimensions before the whirlwind climax of the record, the closing stormer ‘convolvo’, expanding any mind it’s aurally connected to at an exhilarating rate. it’s a record that leaves you mentally and physically breathless, and is not one to miss. comes in limited quantities, and vinyl is coloured!

seth troxlers play it say it label looks to sean miller for its next essential bit of dance floor dynamite. this 11th firing release on the label features two killer cuts from the canadian producer. miller has been turning out taste making tracks on a consistent basis for a decade now. releasing on mobilee, area remote and ovum he is no stranger to the best labels out there and this latest missive is another offering that will keep djs and dancers happy all summer long and beyond. the momentous a side ‘tiger spirit it’ is ten tantalising minutes of deep and seductive house music. clever drum fills, poised synth stabs and vocal coos all add oil to the groove as playful kicks punch out an infectious pattern below. this is proving to be one of key tracks in seth’s tracks this summer: ‘it’s driving the crowds wild’. ‘together’ is less physical but certainly more emotional offering. playing out perfectly effortlessly, it has swirling pads and trilling chords adding some sensuous summer sunshine to the vibe fuelled house drums below. troxler has once again unearthed a brilliant release from a talented producer right at the top of his game.

after a fabulous summer and a mind-blasting krake festival, killekill takes its next step and kicks off another new label called vanta series, which is destined for small series of 12-es with out-standing dancefloor tracks. the name derives from vantablack, a colour from nano technology, which is the blackest black and actually invisible. vanta therewith stands for the total emptiness and is the perfect name for a label which does not have a defined identity itself but is a platform for different series, which will all have a concept and aesthetic in itself. the first series is called -the end is near-. it consists of 4 releases and comes with an artwork by french artist elzo durt. every release will contain a small poster, all four posters put together become elzo durt s piece -les anges de l apocalypse-. first record is by dez williams, who also released on shipwrec and bass agenda recently. a-side acidbanger is a serious banger and has future acid classic written all over it. the b-side comes with two acid variations - one more stingy, one emotional and psychedelic - which show the potential of this outstanding producer. open your ears and put the needle on - here is some acid!

catalogue number pp018 has been work in progress for quite a while now. wind-s originally appeared in a slightly different version as part of the soundtrack to one of rohtheaters plays. the track features all the typical obalski elements we have grown so fond of in the past. dreamy pads and odd melodies create the sort of ambient that carries you away somewhere else (bravo!). we decided that it would be interesting to hear other artists take their turn on the material. the japanese duo mascaras (chida & 5ive) transformed wind-s in an atmospheric drum workout. fantastically incorporating the breezy synth elements of the original into their flow of percussion. press play lift off. the b-side gives space to nick höppners epic techno groove. ecstasy evolving progress.

filling the night with scars, the new release by our mainstay g&#322,ós marks the second installment on the ravage white series label. at the core of this release, g&#322,ós seems to build bridges between his ambient side on one hand and his thumping club music side on the other hand. especially the a-side covers the clubbier rhythmic vibe whilst the b-side conveys the more emotional vibe. like in the title track, he builds slowly and smoothly but he stays very precise in which acidic sounds come and fade. with this release, he finds a balance between the nostalgic anthem-like euphoria and a more darker and deeper narrative.

emerging from the romanian underground scene, talented young artist dragutesku finds fapte records with a prepared artwork for this release and by coincidence the name of his 2 tracks match the already made picture, so we’ve called it coincidente. on a side is the psychedelic logo of the label matching the track halucinant, having a minimal creepy sound but with a groovy pleasing vibe in the same time, making one hallucinate when listening to it & looking at the spinning center of the vinyl. as for b side, were we can find the track pastel, we must say we barely found this pastel-painting by leonid a. who gave us the right to use it, completing the art for this release maching the colorful minimal sound of the track by dragutesku later on. these are the true facts and actions (en.trans.= fapte) we experienced and hope to transmit further along with this 180g limited vinyl.

a negative hallucination is an idea that was first put forward by sigmund freud in 1890. he used the term to describe how a hypnotised person could be led to be unable to see a person or thing that was right in front of them once out of the hypnotised state, creating a gap in their reality. sadly, this gap in reality seems endemic in the minds of many in the world, whether from lack of access to facts or from wilful ignorance. the result is the same regardless: a world where many oppressed peoples reality is edited out of the conversation. noleian reusse (half of africans with mainframes) and thomas cox (one third of pittsburgh track authority) got together in the studio in pittsburgh during a week of extreme social unrest in the usa in late 2015, resulting in these recordings. the tracks are crafted with a stripped back electronic funk and a stark, relentless feel that reflects the energy in the air at the time. as long time fans of politically and socially charged music like public enemy, underground resistance, nwa, dopplereffekt, and gil scott-heron, noleian and thomas have taken these influences and mixed them with their own styles to come up with a modern dancefloor version of those ideals. lead track solidarity fills the whole a side with its optimism. soulful melodies and strings conquer the driving rhythms, bringing a sense that through sticking together, a better future is possible. the b side s perspective is darker. police state is a crazy raved out banger that combines gritty acid and harsh tones that channel the day-to-day existence for far too many urban people. the third and final cut, surveillance, is a paranoid, spacey techno track that would be ideal as a soundtrack for closed-circuit television video reels. this snapshot of urban life is tied together through artwork by andrew burger, whose mix of throwback style and current ideas nails the dystopian existence that is now reality as predicted so long ago by orwell, huxley, lucas, and many more.

what ever not is the variegated music outlet from experienced dodi palese and dan mela, italian djs and producers supporting, selling, playing and releasing instrumental and dance music for two decades. what ever not tenth record, ‘galegos bar / the ritual’, sees a split release signed by dan mela and marco erroi. label co-founder dan mela inaugurates a new moniker ‘man dela’ for ‘the ritual’ - the original track gets remixed by anton zap, with whom mela already collaborated for a digital release on his own ethereal sound. flipping on the other side, marco erroi, head of common series ltd, continues his production career with ‘xxxv gold fingers’ for the ‘galegos bar’ side – one of the many different aliases he personifies - also contributing by realizing the artwork. ‘galegos bar / the ritual’ offers two sides of the same coin and we can have both things with one stroke. the common denominator is the ethnical ritual. it is fully expressed in the man dela side with deep and hypnotic ride out turned upside down by anton zap with a dynamic electronic waltz. the same item, however, is magically hidden in the xxxv gold fingers side, where we can find it in the form of drink beer and play cards just like in most terrible bars in south of italy.

* the universe* on the flip is a more heady affair. with a driving rhythm track, trippy vocal and and ethereal pad. a tried and tested moment-maker. burgeoning mannheim talent fabe completes the package with a very strong remix, toughening up the the original, making the groove his own with his signature bass and shuffle.

damien lynch enjoys countryside a drive in the twilight hour. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, brunette opens with a straight-ahead techno thump of hi-hats and a pulsating 16th-note bassline—a subtle playing field composed solely with a rare 1970’s italian machine, the godwin drummaker 32, unearthed from the secret back room of a music shop in rural ireland where it hid among wonderful vintage russian synths and oddball electronics. this elegant track drips with warm and phasing pads, gentle staccato keys and beautifully simple arpeggios that blur every now and then—all affirming damien’s less-is-more ideology. with side b’s forced relax, damien continues to exercise his restraint, arranging his instruments in a band-like fashion, affording each player the sonic space to project their individual qualities whilst supporting an overall dialogue. there is a soft ebb and flow to every machine’s role, whether the swelling of bass or the interplay of percussive keys, but when these characters arrive in one place, the result is a tranquil euphoria. these two songs will accept you for who you truly are.
