sacred summits returns after a two-year hiatus with an album of interpretations of the music of eric satie by acclaimed composer morgan fisher. active for over 50 years morgans career has moved from 60s number one hit wonders love affair, to 70s rocknroll keyboardist in mott the hoople, before finally on to 80s ambient, improvisation and soundtracks, working with the likes of yoko ono, haroumi hosono and dip in the pool. based in japan since the mid-80s, fishers long-standing admiration for erik satie (1866- 1925) led to these inside satie recordings. satie’s unique work as a precursor to artistic movements such as minimalism, surrealism and repetitive music are acknowledged but for long periods he was not given the accolades his music warranted. a strange, eccentric, surreal man, he was never as acclaimed as the established masters, but influenced not only the likes of debussy but also many of the dada artists. on this album morgan played his music freely after just a brief look at the scores. recorded in just three days, it features piano, melodica, synthesisers, and morgans favoured tape delay system. inside satie is one of the first albums i recorded in japan shortly after moving here in 1985. in three days i improvised on several of my favourite satie themes. mostly i played piano as well as the rich, analog-sounding yamaha gs-1 (precursor of the dx-7), and sometimes used long tape delays to build layers of sound. all the pieces were recorded in single takes no overdubs (no time!).

berlin based japanese industrial synth duo group a make their debut on mannequin records with a killer 3-tracks self titled ep. tommi tokyo (synth, drum machine, vocals) and sayaka botanic (violin, tapes and sampler) released 2 studio albums and 1 live album in tokyo, before to move in berlin in 2016. with their mixture of dark minimal synth, avant-noise, striking visuals and performance art, the duo still carries on the very breath of early industrial pioneers such as throbbing gristle, die form, klinik, cabaret voltaire. the ep was recorded in tommi s bedroom and later mixed together with mannequin records head alessandro adriani in his own studio in berlin. the first two tracks of the ep, t.o.p. and ketabali represents the duo personal reaction against the current economy, an up yours to capitalism, news and politics, all permeated by industrial rhytmic-noises and words with no meaning. the b2 alibi instead was inspired by an autobiography of hi-red centre(japanese avant-grade art group in the 60-70 s) written by one of the members, genpei akasegawa. tommi found the word alibi in the book and she just started singing about the group. as she never wrote lyrics for that, during their live performances they are always improvised, so changing and mutating every time.

going one above todays current wild wild west landscape of digital sampling and officially licensing a legendary 60s-era song thats made its rounds in the golden era of sample based hip-hop. akshin alizadeh, the man from azerbaijan, is the lucky one tapped from the label’s roster to remix marlena shaws woman of the ghetto. the producers strong funk and nu-jazz influences, as well as his ability to combine funky grooves with punchy hip-hop beats, are on full display once again. rightfully dramatic orchestral strings give way to bluesy rhythmic wah-wah guitar plucking, slightly cabaret-ish piano, pitch bending keys, and a totally sultry sax. the percussion sounds like signature alizadeh with a flickering hat pattern, well placed snare rolls, and punchy interplay with the kick. for the djs needing to spice things up, an instrumental is included.

imagine a collab between cabaret voltaire and eric copeland mixed by the scientist and you’ll start to enter the sphere of robin asselman. all spectrums explored. the off kilter dub waltz of ’16-16’ stutters into view with a heavy and heady rolling dread, whilst inaudible vocal snippets and flatlining synth lines echo and enforce a melee of repetition and danger. ‘fitness talk’ perhaps best showcases assel’s interest in dubwise production techniques, and his ability to soak up a palette of sound and turn it into something truly his own. soft familiar bass pads provide the backbone here for all out sample mayhem, a space where recognisable dub effects and sonars vibe alongside absolutely unsettling outer samples of jarring vocals and inaudible upset, purposefully mixed to jolt ears into unfamiliar territories. being the nephew of dj marcelle, this experimental approach and inspiring concept of pushing samples to the absolute limits of their origin to create a new unexplored path is clearly something that has been fed down from marcelle to robin throughout his youth....

medical records in collaboration with our friends at crispy nuggets blog are happy to reissue a very obscure australian gem from the 1980s. ironing music were a three piece band from brisbane. they originally formed in 1984 as a result of their collective love for new order, human league and eventually jean michel jarre and cabaret voltaire. comprised of bass and electic guitar, yamaha dx-7, melodica and an 808, they recorded a 12- single as their sole outpt in 1985 in a limited run of 250 copies (obviously excruciatingly rare now!). it was recorded in their bedroom studio with at teac 4 track. the video clip for the -hit- shopping bag women was played on several national and local television music shows. they also recorded demos in hopes of landing a lp deal which unfortunately didn t attract any takers at the time. they actually only played 3 gigs and were forced to disband after one of their members fell ill in 1986. the lp presented here included the original 4 track single as well as hand picked demos which nicely congeal to form a well rounded lp documenting the band s brief existence. they can best be described as lo-fi synth pop with an emphasis on excellent pop songs and interesting synth/instrument arrangements. the first track shopping bag women is infectiously catchy and just screams to be worn out in the club. fans of early to mid 80s synth pop and new romantic will fall in love. the tracks have been lovingly remastered by martin bowes at the cage, london. features original reproduction of the front cover painting. presented in a limited edition on 180gram vinyl.

a good place to start. her basic sound and image were interior-life bohemian, and in some ways she was cagey with her talent. she didnt belt or improvise broadly. she picked a limited range of notes and climbed into them, applying a pinch of vibrato, letting her voice fade and crackle. these tracks clearly demonstrate her guiding desire, which was to explore the possibilities of the slow blues in the late 20th century, whatever that might mean. some of the most intense recordings she made were english-language covers or japanese rewrites of american jazz standards, blues songs and spirituals, backed by only acoustic guitar and drums. she sang slowly, as if there were weights on her. and after a while of her working and your listening, youll hear it: the way she connects intimately with her task but keeps something private for herself (new york times)

a sort of cabaret voltaire for the iphone age, drooids are a collective of three multimedia artists who produce electronic music using improvisational, often anarchic methods. utilizing a hodgepodge of gear both old and new, and not-wholly-quantized, they create a collage of sounds that verges on chaos before slipping back into a dark yet weirdly club-oriented beat. their live shows usually feature multiple guest collaborators, costumes, sculptural props and performative antics. for their debut release on lse we tried to capture the spirit of these shows and recorded over 11 hours of drooids improvising in the studio of the course of one week. those 11 sprawling hours then got edited down to these 4 snapshots, mastered and pressed in a limited edition of 200 (40 with original gelatin silver prints) for our 6th vinyl release.

neueheimat is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabel manege with his debut release *quartier3*. neueheimat was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell. after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wished to start his own, new project and truly realise his creativity. conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls. influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. neueheimat and subsequently *quartier3 ep* are characterised by dennis clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression. large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), *quartier3* is a significant milestone in dennis production history.

body 11 is/was the one-man project of tim stickelbrucks. inspired by the late 70s/early 80s icons such as omd, human league, and cabaret voltaire, tim wrote and recorded 4 songs in 1987 in his apartment and self-released the mind 7 inch ep in 1988. rather obscure at the time, the 7 gained cult status later in the 90s when collectors and word of mouth fans began seeking out copies of the record.medical records is proud to reissue the mind ep 4 songs along with unreleased recordings created at the same time. the unreleased tracks were songs that were distributed only on cassette (to friends, etc) at the time. the tracks have been transferred from cassette.

the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler and sascha hedgehog, earned their dance music stripes around the turn of the millennium with a series of strong releases, most notably on frankfurt-based techno institution playhouse. describing their musical aesthetic as cabaret-independent-house, the act forged a distinct sound that combines icy minimal structures with catchy euro-girl vocals, anglo-french funk antics and a dash of dancefloor melancholy. this summer, rework return to the fray with a two-sided affair for paris-based meant records that shows they have not lost the electric energy that characterised their earlier work.

factory floor offer up a substantial distraction while the band put the finishing touches on their debut album, due out on dfa records in early 2013. their last single two different ways is remixed by two different electronic music leaders. richard h kirk, co-founder of both cabaret voltaire and sweet exorcist, puts his own warped spin on the single, while perc aka ali wells, takes the original and piles on his signature throbbing bass for the main remix. perc also offers up a noisy mix taking avant waves of feedback and noise and shaping into something unexpectedly beautiful.

michel amato aka the hacker is without a doubt one of the most successful and accomplished french djs and producers. since 1992 he is part of the international techno szene, widely acclaimed as a solo artist as well as persuing thriving projects with miss kittin. he is a rare gem ... an artists who always stayed true to his style and his early musical influences of bands such as cabaret voltaire, throbbing gristle, einstürzende neubauten, depeche mode or joy division. for his new satori ep on correspondant he makes no exception! originally hailing from mexico, daniel proclaimed disco caveman and rising comeme (matias aguayos label), transforms michels white funk into a psychedelic disco track. the remix unmistakably bears his signature: it is a maloso. offsets remix is a crawling monster. he digged deep and the result is a dark and hypnotic remix of white funk.

so summer is here and the time has come for two of the finest swiss djs to come together to present their debut 12 inch entitled >kassandra ep<. both wandler and mastra have released a number of solo eps on a number of swiss labels including the infamous motoguzzi records. zurich based wandler and bern based mastra are both constantly playing in the swiss circuit holding down residencies in zurich at zukunft, the hive and cabaret. having said that these two are no strangers to the formula that most djs seek when hunting for the bombs necessary to make a set magic. wielding a smooth sense of linearity and accessibility these two have truly crafted three cuts essential for the late night session.
