tapan are from belgrade, hosts to disco not disco and now delivering two slow psychedelic techno bomb s to crimes of the future s letterbox. we first met nebjosa and the crew when we played at drug store in belgrade for them in early 2014. upon receiving these we knew they had crimes written all over them. on volumes we have two very special remixes of an already heavy original starting with willie burns taking them into the streets of manchester in the early 90 s and spending a night on at the hacienda with no thought of the gentrification approaching. drvcvltvre is the second provider and in true style switches out the lights and a spectre looms over the dancefloor dripping acid on the dancers below. the ep closes with whos there? featuring the brain melting guitars of vladimir djordjevic. quite a debut we think.

when people think of tuff gong they usually think of bob marley and rightly so, as he was nicknamed and often called tuff gong and from this his early releases which came out on the tough gong label. but tuff gong was also the name of a recording complex named after bob marley hat included a top level recording studio, pressing plant and distribution centre that would allow reggae music to carry on many years after his sad and too early demise. we focus for this release on the work carried out by the great scientist on the songs of the black solidarity label run by ossie thomas (aka joe the boss) recorded at tough gong studios. one of the foremost recording, pressing and distribution facilities on the jamaican island set up from the work of bob marley to carry forward reggae music. hope you enjoy this set.

originally released back in 2006 destination boogie has been one of zr s most popular and respected compilations. in fact we recently reissued it on vinyl for the first time. there s a lot of crappy edits out there, we believe these dr packer reworks are very worthwhile, well constructed new versions that make the tracks more playable for today s dancefloors whilst retaining their boogie tastic musicality. since the album was released the whole edit culture has exploded so we thought it would be a nice idea to get one of the best, dr packer, to rework four of the most danceable cuts from the album. we at zr hq think he s done a great job on these.

after a series of mesmerising (and massive) eps under his more disco orientated yse saint laur ant moniker pressed for time label head ant plate is back in his deep house mode with an ep of yse goodness no messing about with the opener this loves the same yse goes straight in there with some dancefloor heat that has enough quirk to counteract the house swing. 9828 is all badboy garridge wonk with some excellent detuned chords and a catchy, nagging vocal refrain - swag. on the flip, i gave you my is proper deep house (as in it s actually deep) with some trademark yse chords, blissed out vocal samples and great drum programming. night prescription rounds things off with a homage to the classic us house sound. think chuggles i remember dance but with an east midlands twist.

magdalena strikes again on broken mind recordings, this time with her first release on vinyl.inspired on the track agressiva of front 242 and the corrupted political environment of her country, colombia. desobediencia civil starts with a straight intro and evolves into an old school but at the same time fresh sound techno, calling the attention of mister myles sergé, who adds his quote to this ep with an exquisite, elegant and dark remix. and to finish this trip a dark and deep outro. a killer ep from start to end

erased tapes artists and friends Ólafur arnalds and nils frahm have separately carved out a musical career that defies genres both with their unique live shows and a loyal fan base that’s always eager to hear what their prolific output will bring. their latest collaborative 2-track release ‘life story love and glory’ is a live improv affair on two pianos, recorded in 2012 at nils’s durton studio in berlin. fans may wonder why they have waited until 2015 to release these tracks, but having revealed a new website www.arnaldsfrahm.com you may think this may not be the end to their musical story this year. the limited 7 inch vinyl includes a download code.

the polish artist aphreme (octave moods) just landed in minuendo with new work called beneath the windy trees ep, this release contains three timeless deep house tracks with american flavour perfect to floor. extra remix by ernie, head of minuendo recordings.

throwing rave parties since 2011, the bp collective has been founded with the objective of bringing a new breath to the french underground techno scene. in the bp tag und nacht” parties the visual universe tends to merge with the sound. each of the two stages has something different to tell: tag for the open air, nacht for the dark and smoky room. this project is based on the belief that the story told by sound depends on the visual atmosphere in which it is played. indeed this very first ep is built between those two atmospheres, the 4 tracks of the ep could be played in any of the two scenes tag or nacht with a totally different impact on the audience. on the tag stage, both of the tracks are colorful, atmospheric and dynamic whereas on the nacht stage, they become dark, trippy and powerful. this record is the first release of the two artists x1000 on the a side and vidock on the b side. both of them are part of the bp collective since the beginning, they draw their influences from the 90s detroit and belgium techno and trance scene. its difficult not to think about artists like the martian, model 500, robert leiner or the whole r&s label while listening to these 4 tracks.

having previously used their dnuos ytivil offshoot to release material from their nearest and dearest (think batu, bruce, hodge and alex coulton), bristols livity sound crew turns to unknown french producer simo cell. the two tracks showcased here are a rather fine introduction to this newcomer, with opener *piste jaune* offering a clandestine blend of stuttering electro bass, discordant analogue percussion hits and spooky electronics. the mystery man goes for the jugular on *cellar door*, with pitched-down, bleep style melodies and liquid electronics riding an off-kilter, broken techno groove. another fine livity release.

white asega co-­owner jack dixon wrote new curtains after a friend who was coming wildly off the rails told him he was a good producer but his tunes were boring. the original version was really sparse and about 300bpm. when jack moved to new york the parts got lost, so he remade the track a dozen times. this was the version we all liked best, although jack never wants to hear it again in his life. it sounds tough and tropical. our friend troy gunner remixed it, and turned it into something so loud and slamming it will knock your teeth out. after telling jack to stop making boring music, mark kodiak spent two horrendous years working with jamie kodiak on a song they ve called taargus. it nearly destroyed their friendship forever but we think it was worth it. it has brutal weapon sounds, nasty snares and an incessant “yo” that has been described as “annoying and unnecessary”. the artist tom pounder has created a blinding video for it that contains brand new colours. french born bass genius bambounou stepped up to remix the track, taming the wild stems into a hypnotic early­morning house stepper. it took us approximately 2000 exhausting facebook group chats, four cross­atlantic flights and one divorce to get to this point. we hope you will enjoy this record for the rest of your lives. rip ken tulley.

think early relief records and the green velvet sound of the mid 90s, very cerebral and freaky undertones. all of this done from an earlier mathematic artist coming back into the game. included on the ep is a take on some jungle with a twist of analog house notes on top.

the virgo ep is the 4th of mutewax’s non-stop output, featuring french artist cømpass. vindemiatrix is a classy, uplifting peak-time track that sneaks up behind you. if you were thinking of leaving the dance floor. think again. spica lays heavy on the kick-drum & thick bass-lines. it’s a mind-winding trip which reveals a mature twist on the classic acid tweets. arcturus bounces joyfully across the dance-floor and picks up the pace with its hard-hitting acid notes and infectious rhythms. porrima beautifully stirs the emotions - the melodic rhythms predict a sweet future, yet it retains an atmospheric nostalgia for all things which must pass.

the second jungle wonz release on trax, again with harry dennis gorgeous vocals, was sub-licensed to both new york label vendetta and breakout in the uk (both subsidiaries of a&m), with some fine remixes by former area resident justin strauss. -this was one of the first house songs i ever heard when i was like 14- recalls felix da housecat. -marshall jefferson has been a huge influence on all my basslines. people usually think that basslines come from 80 s pop bands but they came from marshall jefferson. marshall jefferson is probably the best house producer of all time for this period.-

berlin based label schakal’s first ep comes from antialias, one of its two founders and is called -somber clarity-. the title track makes us think of the return into the early morning light, but could just as easily be a reminder to those dark and delirious hours that came before.

with his last ep offering on keinemusik, &me displayed himself once again as supplier of anthems that easily reconcile style with general floor purpose. you would think, such an universal and inexhaustible tune as this very “after dark” can only be a lucky hit. but no, he’s knocking out the classic material just like that. another example? catalog number km028, his brandnew “trilogy” ep. the titletrack on a initially places a synth arpeggio behind a kick that in dryness is hardly to excel. the beat of -trilogy- is then seasoned with rimshot patterns until the saturated bassdrum comes in and paves the way to the dancefloor. &me even refines his knack for stoic grooves on this jam and once again shows his sure feeling for suitable vocal features. sabotas croon comes devoid of big gestures and still knows the ropes to appeal to the collective mentality of a clubcrowd. on the flipside, “woods” is living up to its name from the very beginning. woody percussions are thumping within an almost subtropical scenario that’s frequently pervaded by mighty synth clouds. and once again, there’s an arpeggio sneaking in that at some point is taking the lead in this strictly instrumental affair. add a break building that will educe a floor’s complete euphoric potential without going for the rather mindless escalation and there you have it: a b-side that’s actually more of an a-competitor.

our russian friend alexey nikitin is back with his new lp. the title ravine reflects its program - 7 tracks that go right under your skin. timelessly beautiful, one could think it is an old warp lp. the ravine lp will come out in three different versions with handmade silkscreen-covers and download code. vinyl tastes better…

to release a new piece of music, it would seem, is to enter a competition for approval and appearances: who will play that track and how many will follow. likes. clicks. transient signs of appreciation, or perhaps just vague nods of confirmation. but what about all those values inherent in music that just cant be quantified? if merely one single person would listen to these songs and find herself or himself genuinely moved by them, wouldnt it be worth it? we think so. we really do.

title track is a beautiful and epic journey in techno soul quite rare to hear these days, reminding a bit of early nineties detroit/uk techno and even some of the early speedy j works, all with nowadays production skills. stunning contemporary techno the classic way. then from heaven to hell with 60606, an evil distorted acidic drum track guaranteed to damage kids brains worldwide. but no time to think long anyway cause theres we only have, an autistic out-of the-box jack track providing a sneaky tool for the more adventurous dj. this will separate the gurners from the dancers. top-notch showcase by the unstoppable man-machine that is marco bernardi!

12 inch 6 track ep, hand stamped spined sleeve

back at it again, taking the true essence of the “jacking” sound of chicago house and putting it’s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, “volatile.” warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! “volatile” starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that’s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is “killin,” with it’s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, “broken siren” is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, “electric current” best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums

this month athens of the north presents two 45 s from a true musical genius, weldon irvine. here we have 2 classic sides taken from the 1976 lp sinbad on rca. the vocals don blackman are certainly the equal of marvin gayes whats going on for conscious soul perfection, i don t think i can give it higher praise than that. this is in my top 5 records of all time dont think, buy it.

saxophones? panpipes? you gotta be kidding me, you might think… but wait until you actually listend to this great gem! great dj food with an oldschool house feel from the dynamic duo einzelkind & robin scholz under their new project name rhythm factory. straight outta offenbach. tested and approved at robert johnson many many times.
