jami bassols has been a close member of hivern since its beginnings as one half of aster. now, following the release of noche/ templo, his two acclaimed edits for nvh, he returns to the label with his solo debut as jmii. in thrills, the barcelonian producer displays a sound that s equally raw and lively, with a very personal sense of quirkiness. the title track is jmii s most expansive production to date. an uplifting house number built around an elastic bassline and sprinkled with a bubbly arpeggiated melody, echoed vocal snips and ravey pads. bailar is a sort of lunatic take on chi-house, with a crude bassline, psychotic organ chords and feverish percussion coming together to form an ultra-infectious groove. tightbrass follows a similar path, but conducted by frenzied synthetic horns that bring to mind a marching band of manic robots. in his remix, comeme s christian s. brings the track to a darker territory, reducing it to it s core elements and focusing in a nasty bassline that will for sure cause serious damage in the dancefloors in the upcoming months.

as big fans of red axes, were happy to welcome niv and dori to the label. their first release for hivern is pil sagol, a three-track ep that features some of their most adventurous material to date. the title track is a slice of shamanic house full of playful melodies, dripping textures and steady rhythms that result in the sonic equivalent of psychotropic trip through the jungle. me and abra in ruanda drops the tempo but keeps the mind-expanding effect with its mangled brass sounds and ceremonious pads. todum todum is the most dance floor-driven cut of the ep, building tension through distorted toms, reverberant claps and an unrelenting bass line whilst keeping the narcotic vibe of the whole release through highly enchanting cosmic melodies. the 12inch comes in a captivating sleeve by barcelona-based designer xavier marin.
init is the musical incarnation of rhein-main based duo nadia d alo and benedikt frey. albeit heavy use of analogue synthesis and drum-machines, init rethinks its genres sonic approach, unfolding a unique and organic, yet alienating sound, somewhere in mysterious mids of acid, techno, ambient and kraut-rock
michael & mattis are based between new york and oslo. maybe thats why their music has such a unique feel. blending the oddness of norwegian labels as sex tags mania and the ongoing musical heritage of nyc in hip-hop, disco and house, they produce twisted house jams that manage to remain raw and catchy at the same time. bold grooves and smooth vibes produ- ced with tape warmth and a singular pop appeal.
john talabots hivern discs label starts afresh in 2015 by introducing a heretofore unknown duo known as init. te pair hails from frankfurt s rhein-main region and comprises nadia d’alò, and benedikt frey, both of whom were featured on the title track of massimiliano pagliaras 2014 lp on live at robert johnson. freys cosmic, plodding, and house-related analogue experimentations have also appeared on the iconic japanese label mule musiq, and this penchant for moody kraut-infuenced psychedelia and atmospheric synth explorations
