seriously dope 4 track disco edits ep. first up is jaz. the south carolina native is at the top of the disco edits game, with records out on universal cave, rotating souls, and passport to paradise. “the end¯” is a 90bpm monster. easily suited for lovers of balearic, one of those rare slow tracks that can really rock a dance floor. the patchouli brothers are up and comers from toronto, with a 12” on basic fingers, “cheat, lie, kill, die¯” is a mid tempo stomper. a versatile track easily blended with disco or house, and a hook so catchy, crowds are singing along before the end of the track. will martin opens up the b-side with pure fire. “rock me again” is the transformation of a 2 minute james brown production into 7 and a half minutes of dance floor ecstasy. martin is known for lo-fi house, with releases on 2mr, dolly, argot, and supply records. studebaker hawk closes us out with the b-boy jam, “say africa”. breaks for days, and even a heavy guitar solo. this track is for lovers of deep disco, classic hip hop, and afrobeat. limited run so don t sleep on this one!

multi-talent joyce muniz is definitely one to look out for. initially starting her career as a vocalist, she now took over the global house music scene within no time as a deejay and producer as well. exhibiting her talent with previous releases, its not surprising that shes on the roster of prestigous labels such as exploited records and 20/20 vision recordings. next year she will release her single toxic people on international deejay gigolo records featuring the singer, songwriter and producer demetr1us. toxic people is a vibrant and raw sounding electro house cut featuring grimy synths and vocals, that lend the track a cold and distant atmosphere. the artwork for toxic people was created by leipzig-based artist silvia trost, whose forth lies in oil and acrylic paintings. she now frequently collaborates with glitch art artists and loves to mix materials and techniques, both analogue and digital. the b-side dreamz is another great production by joyce muniz. the playful groove and eclectic ambient makes it a cool package.

following on the psyfunk label compilation, that shed a great deal of attention on the budding argentine scene, is a full ep from alan castro. alan castro’s track “mi alma intoxicada” was a highlight of various artists #01 , definitively floaring and delicately rolling. on this new ep, castro shows his complex capacities in composition. “ciderfunk” is without a doubt one of the most mind-boggling tracks we’ve heard for a very long time. backed by “pacuriver” and “db mucho” which are both equally as intricate, as the epically adventurous a-side.

the second release on werk is signed by j. manuel. the young producer has been polishing his sound ever since he first started experimenting with electronic music gear as a child. his commitment to following his own instincts rather than conforming to what was being played around him resulted in a very different aesthetic to the one commonly associated with berlin techno. drive fiction ep stands proof of that. all 3 tracks push boundaries in their own style, that being perhaps the strongest link between them. the title track -drive fiction- presents old-school leads over broken beats and electro inspired pads while the a2 -falling in sine circulation- is arguably the most dance floor oriented track, with a pounding 4×4 kick drum and an alarming 3/4 sine wave slaying the high frequencies. closing the ep is b-side -softer-, a melodic track with long, undulating pads that is nonetheless driven by a powerful rave-inspired beat. with its second release, werk comes to confirm the path it seeks to travel through both parties and releases: that of the sounds less rigid. gritty, wild and presenting a wide range of rhythmic patterns, drive fiction ep is a defying record. challenge accepted?

exactly one year after their sold-out debut album zest, die orangen (aka dreems & kris baha) are zurück! malka tuti and die orangen have concocted a double dish, a two part remix package, saft 1 & saft 2. the first part consists of a new live version of the track yaranabe, recorded in a live session as part of the duo’s infamous analogue live act. a2 is tapan’s remix of metal man. the poem-not-poem is taking shape as a low bpm banger when tapan’s heavy signature kick meets those trippy vocals. this is tapan’s first track to be made after finishing their debut album last year on mt, and its an interesting evolution of their sound, slow dark and punchy, yet with these vocals and bassline, also a catchy post-pop track for the later hours. on the b-side lies gordon pohl’s reimagination of mersey river (aka “the platypus track”). the tracks “epic-, long slow ambient opening and evolution into rhythm resembles in many ways the psychedelic collaboration works of the late pete namlook & move d on namlooks own fax records, which was always a significant influence on the malka tuti world.

another much welcomed reissue of the late 70s funk laden, disco two tracker from splendor. the a side take me to your disco is emblematic of disco records from that golden era where big bands and big budgets were rife. yet theres an interplanetary twist to this one, with the mysterious, eerie, spacecraft sounding intro paving the way for a tale of extraterrestrials wanting to get down at one of planet earths discos. you can tell this came from an era were disco really was taking over flip it over and you ve got the mighty special lady. with philip bailey, of earth, wind and fire fame, on production his style comes through strong in the vocal arrangement with the level of feeling and power he squeezes out of each voice. a chance to add these two anthems to the collection!

after three major releases by tell, nachtbraker and s3a, its time for debuting italian artist verner to close our beloved trophy quartet. this milanese key virtuoso is ready to blow your mind with this eccentric yet humble ep, taking you on an emotional journey. long stretched pads, playful chord progressions, organic percussion all produced with analogue 70s and 80s vintage synthesizers and drum computers in verners studio reminding us a bit of harvey sutherland and nu guineas style. were talking groove, funk, jazz but also house and soundtrack style compositions which together form a very complete record carefully a&rd by nachtbraker. drop the needle on the a side and youll start off with linizio, a majestic piece of synthwork. hurdling through different emotions and vibes, this could easily be the intro of one of your favourite 80s tv series. upset takes you on a happy groovy tour whilst crash of the web era and the motion pictures take us on a trippy and ambient voyage that is hard to wake up from. when flipping the record to the b side, verner is stepping back into the groove and funk with tecladista, arguably the dance floor hit of this debut ep. starting of with again a majestic synth intro area drops into a festive funk and jazz bomb with some intricate synth work treating us with some lovely solos. closing this versatile ep is late night job, a deep, deep tune with a thriving baseline and mesmerizing synths. we suggest to dont sleep on this one and have a listen to this piece of art by the very talented verner.

never released before on lp, here comes the complete original soundtracks of french cult film composer françois de roubaix for director yves boisset. two movies that embody the two sides of francois de roubaix’s approach to recording. for le saut de l’ange (1971), the self-taught composer wrote an orchestration for some fifty musicians playing strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion with two distinct solo instruments alternating the main theme: indian sitar on the one hand and accordion on the other. r.a.s (1973) was recorded on a 8-track tape recorder, in françois de roubaix’s home studio rue de courcelle, where most of his 70’s scores were recorded. the result is a mix of military-march rhythms, rolls on the snare-drum with sounds of synthi aks syntheziser: de roubaix invented a modern sound for this contemporary-history tragedy.

prolific and long-serving canadian producer fred everything is never one to rest on his laurels, but it s been no less than 10 years since he last released an album (the classic lost together on om records). now he finally returns to the long player format on his own lazy days label with the appropriately titled long way home, a widescreen exploration of his sound via all manner of styles. there s gorgeous broken beat and neo soul, slow-strutting electronic disco and modern boogie, and that s just the a side of this expansive 12inch track album. warm, immaculately produced and unafraid of embracing pop as much as underground styles, it s a masterful return from mr. everything.

next up for rhythm sections club focused sub-label international black 004 is here and it is bringing the heat - this time from tennessee, usa. mister saturday night and cgi affiliate alex falk delivers a 4 track ep made with one thing in mind the dancefloor. taking influence from the likes chevel, levon, redshape and phase, alex falk achieves a singular vision merging american and european styles of techno. opening with upp, an effortless techno groove with a tight rolling bass line, classic lead stabs that pulsate, twist and turn as the heavy kick punishes the subs. beta comes in next with a serious low end bounce a distorted bass bump pushes the system to the max before being followed up by lower sub all swinging around a fat house kick and tight percussion another club stomper for the serious rigs only. the b side is a proper dub techno workout.

in ancient lddlm times, blddlm even, belgium could well have been the freaky house and ecstasy center of the world. if only we could remember all the lost hours. but after all, as the brussel saying goes: its friday, tomorrow is tuesday. at lddlm, we try not to reminisce, that was just setting the mood.we are very happy to welcome arthur johnson in our non-fold, a young producer from liege via marseille and la dame noir. aj is amongst those ever mutating artists, his u-turns slowly composing a real personality, and one fitting our contrarian attitude. in a way perfect stranger reminds us of a good 90’s farley/heller remix, not so much camp fire island than almost sweaty late night trancer. we love those tracks that do not fit our ethos a priori but that we can’t stop playing. cosmo vitelli is a long time family friend and he beams up this stranger through the axis into some kind of romantic italo-german anthem. ballada and secretary discordia show a different side of aj, a dub march echoing dif juz and a percussive machine funk number. we sincerely hope aj keeps on straying for the best, his way being our way.

top modern soul / disco spin thats goes for big money, licenced from moses himself, disco funk banger leaning more to the disco side, big spin for all the usual disco suspects, this one will fly.

still hope is their second single and the follow up to motorway jam (their double a side with palms trax from late last year) which sees them collaborate with anthony anaxagorou, a british born cypriot award winning poet and essayist, whose poetry and fiction have appeared on bbc newsnight, bbc4, itv and vice. hearing his lyrics via their good friend simbad, secretsundaze connected with anthony and still hope is the fruit of their labour. the original is a potent and political spoken word piece delivered over a rolling house groove. definitely one for the deeper moments with its late night heady feel and full vocal not letting up. the poems in the heart floor version strips the vocal back and adds dramatic strings for a more direct dance floor approach. ex slum village detroit producer waajeed released a couple of killer eps in 2017 on his own dirt tech reck imprint so we had to get him aboard for the remix. his detroit hardcore dub does what is says on the tin and is a peak time slammer while his searching dub goes down a jazzier, spacey route with live sounding drums and dreamy pads.

next out on the ownlife imprint, a remix ep of what so far has been one of the most acclaimed releases from the label, the collaboration between leiras and svreca titled “the bridges i burn”. four well-known names to the electronic music scene has been invited to infuse their own characteristic sound onto the original tracks of own009. first out covering the a side is spanish reeko who skilfully plays with the rhythm tones, the main bleep synth sounds and his unique and particular way of texturizing the layers. a2, signed by british volte-face, gives the perfect balance between sounds and silence in a mysterious spaced out interpretation of “tilling ceramics”. flipping the record you will find new york veteran producer shawn o’sullivan under his 400ppm moniker, developing the structure of the track in a smooth way, melting the modular synthesis with the atmospheres found in the original version. last to contribute with his unlimited talent is swedish acronym, ho delivers an intense, tribalistic, spiral-maker remix, wrapping up this four tracker in the best possible way.

a new heart-stopping piece of work by visonia in which sadness, happiness, hopeful and desperation are in a continuous battle. as a result of this distress and ad nauseam the chilean artist has asked himself about the sense of life and figured out how to look on the bright side. doubtless, if we talk about -fake wings- we could point out that this one is an epic and thought-provoking album composed of 6 wicked tunes and released on lovely pinkwhite vinyl.

death in vegas return with the single ‘honey’, its second collaboration with sasha grey. ‘honey’ is a slow, seductive serenade, with an organic, psychedelic tone: dreamy and dripping with intensity.

the b side features ‘witchdance dub’, richard fearless’ long-held remix of ‘witchdance’ off trans-love energies, featuring the haunting vocals of katie stelmanis from austra. fearless cut three dubplates of ‘witchdance dub’ after he mixed this track. dj harvey has one, prosumer the other, and fearless kept the 3rd: delicate acetates that have been played out sparingly but with electric effect. this track is effortless, minimal dance music imbued with fearless’ unique production sound- it’s not one to miss.

30+ minutes of life affirming ambient and drone coming from zen zsigo, otherwise known for his work under the cremation lily alias and as one of the spearheads of the current uk tape scene, where he has been mixing things up for 7 years via his strange rules label. winter orbit was inspired by science fiction and its relation to modern life, recorded in 2015 using a mix of both modern and archaic equipment it was later released on belgian tape label audio. visuals. atmosphere. on an initial run of 33 tapes. winter orbit is now newly presented via an expanded re-issue, chronicling the original material, re-issued on one side (fragments in hologram snow) while showcasing new material (for artifice rose) which was created in response to the initial release by zsigo in 2017. as usual, remastered and cut @ dubplates and mastering, berlin and pressed at record industry, holland to ensure optimum listening quality.
