hobor is part of many groups and formations himself, such as songs for pneumonia or cointel allstars and the event-series fiktion+masse. his solo project is mainly known for extended dj-sets on various ambient-floors in leipzig and his live-sets - which could be described as cautious investigations into micro-sounds - are mainly based on his work with modular synthesizers. his debut-album on ph17 is a minimalistic, conceptual work that focuses on sound as much as on the way electronic music usually plays. all tracks consist of almost independent layers of sound that behave like improvising musicians. they seem to play together but by focusing on one of them you soon realise they�re actually stoically sticking to there own rhythm and repetition and as the tracks play on these layers of sound start to form ever different constellations. no wonder hobor says he took inspiration from improvising bands like the necks. his album is as fascinating and hypnotizing as one of their live-jams. �constellations is released on 50 limited tapes.

every tune of the 12- is deeply inspired by the origins of the mid 90s melodic jungle & d n b movement, namely by the greats of that era: peshay, source direct, ltj bukem and photek. ray & karl have worked together on a number of projects over the last year, the most recent one being a split 12- on the other planet of lyon. while ray has been connected to the lo-fi house scene and acts like baltra, dj boring and dj seinfeld, karl has been more low-key, producing music that s relaxed and organic, mainly inspired by naature and the musical movement around frits wentink and max graef. for this release they worked closely together, decided to stray off their usual paths and combined their different styles to form a well-rounded record.

the afro-funk side of the latin soul maestro! born in gao (mali), boncana maiga is one of the most talented and popular producer of west-african music since the 60s. he studied flute and latin arrangements in cuba during the 60s and founded the famous les maravillas du mali in 1968. he became orchestra leader for the national ivorian tv in abidjan in the mid-seventies, and toured all over the world with the famous africando band. during his recording sessions in nyc at the beginning of the 80�s with a lot of �latin musicians� from puerto rico, venezuela or colombia, boncana maïga also recorded few rare funky tracks with heavy breaks! with the artist, we decided to reissue four rare tracks from 1978 to 1982 dedicated to dancefloor, including a really rare soundtrack for the oil company of ivory coast called petroci. in 2018, hell be back on tour with les maravillas du mali, still have a weekly tv show on tv5 monde and with this reissue will continue to warm your afro-funk parties! fully licensed, 12inch vinyl (45 rpm) including interview. remastered by the carvery!

red laser ceo il bosco selects four manctalo nukes that rock the label s manchester party on a regular basis. the manchester dj and producer carefully edits these rare or ignored tracks with the help of the another well-known local who only wishes to be known as the bat. play that song is like the smiths decided to have a go at boogie and creates an amazing mix of indie electro funk that shouldn t work but does. a little happiness has had the big italo collectors around europe searching frantically for the original of this lost gem since the track was aired on red laser s soundcloud. who will find it first? pac manc is an amazing dreamy slice of electro boogie ripe for the dancefloor and finishing the ep in style is the heavy drum led afro funk of shotgun rules again, with a synth bassline so big you could see it from mars. this one will live in dj bags for some time. limited to 150. hand stamped in textured grey card sleeves.

we have encountered ice dog during one sunny belgrade afternoon while he was chasing what he was calling fish (actually slavic seniors transformed into dolphins and dolphin is not a fish). he might or might not told us the fore-coming story: a man complains of being hungry. all the time. dogs it seems are never hungry. so the man decides to become a dog. to be a dog one must walk on all fours. the hero decides to wear shoes on his hands only to discover that there is no hand left to tie the laces on the fourth shoe. what does a shoe-shod dog tie laces with? its mouth. organ by organ the man becomes a dog. one lace at a time his record transformed us into a new type of misunderstood creatures. most of the tracks are surprisingly fast and playable yet broken while others are groovy however noisy. i am pretty sure you havent heard anything like it before. but what do i know i�m a fish.

a legendary album! this previously unreleased album by os mutantes was supposed to be their breakthrough album to an english speaking market � but for years it�s only been talked about in hushed whispers, and has only been heard by a lucky few! the record was recorded in paris in 1970 � and it�s all in english! (not that we�re biased against portuguese, mind you � but since we�re english speakers, it�s kind of a nice thing to have a record that we can understand!) the record features a number of tunes from the mutantes first two albums � redone here with translated lyrics, and in a compressed pop style that�s a bit smoother than the original albums, but still very nice! in fact, the record�s a sophisticated pop statement that would have stood well in the company of many of the best of 1970s rock elite � had the boneheads at philips actually decided to release the record! no use crying over spilled milk, though � because the album�s out now, and it�s filled with loads of nice tracks like -panis et circensis-, -batmacumba-, -tecnicolor-, -el justiciero-, -i�m sorry baby-, -saravah-, and a sublime reading of -baby-, a track that was virtually the manifesto for tropicalia!

in early 2017, the young australians from parcels may have only released a couple of tracks and yet they are already being compared to »humanized daft punk who would decide to jam along with steely dan and frank ocean.«
the self-produced hideout ep was created over two years. what remains in early 2017 is a unified piece, an ep that is essentially pop but which shines in a unique, exciting and down right groovy light. as a first completed release from parcels, the hideout ep covers a lot of ground.

mm audio has decided to launch a series of various artists periodically. the first of the series includes four different artists with four original tracks. different sounds sought in the scene of young talents who have expressed their sound for this ep.

recently, superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in south africa. he bought a custom made safari hat at his favorite milliner in cologne (ju&#776,,,rgen eifler) and set off with big eyes and a pair of binoculars. it was wild and wonderful and he saw many exotic (and big!) animals, even a leopard in a tree that told him the secret of the universe. he forgot what the leopard said because his mind was still playing and replaying the sound of what he heard on the first night of his arrival � the hypnotic and moving sound of the voices of africa, the voices of the wonderful tanda tula staff choir. there, the choir members work during the day at the camp and at night entertain the guests with their captivating voices and energetic dancing. so impressed was he with their songs and beautiful shangaan language that he decided to record a cd for them to sell in the shop at their camp and now this precious recording is also available through hippie dance / bush recordings on vinyl and cd for you in whatever wherever camp you are. the lp of the tanda tula choir comes with a very pretty poster.

reverie is the first single from flying horseman�s upcoming new studio album rooms / ruins, due for release january 26. coming from such a multifaceted album � featuring several surprising twists and turns � this is a decidedly minimalist track. but don�t be fooled: beneath reverie�s calm surface lurks a vibrating darkness that might just haunt you in the near future.

optimo trax presents a 4-track ep from germanys mathias schober, head honcho of berlin�s lossless label. as always we prefer to let our artists do the talking. heres what mathias has to say about this release - the idea behind all tracks on the ep was a simple setup of drums and one synth that would do a main sequence/sound, yet theres a lot of detail in all of them. in a certain way features a 808ish beat with a main sequence coming from a tiny monophon synth called atmegatron - 8bit love, it turned out being much more music than i thought it would be when i set everything up. but what rules are made for is the same setup but the sequence is a 101 and so are all the washed out fx synths. on is to break them i went a different route, i had the dub, delayed stabs synth first as i was messin with my moog and a space echo - which btw is used on every single track i release, if you haven�t noticed yet. so i was trying to build something around those stabs in order to fit the track to the others and so i ended up with another sequence coming from my moog. as there was still space on the record, i decided to add an ambient version of is to break them, i love the ambience on this track. i hope that my love for dub sounds is obvious enough on these tracks. happy i found such an excellent home for the ep!

in the year 2053, two japanese musical explorers by the names of katsuyoshi and yousuke, travelled to the city of breda in the netherlands. whilst drinking beers in a park near the train station, they stumbled upon an old, partially decayed usb stick, hidden behind a trashcan. with usb technology being long absolete by then, they had no way of checking what was on there until returning back home to tokyo, where yousuke still had a macbook from around the turn of the century tucked away under his bed. after retreiving the data, the stick turned out to contain two 128kbps mp3s of unreleased coco bryce material. utilizing an extensive and painstaking radiocarbon dating procedure, they managed to pinpoint the production date to the spring of 2017. the tokyo natives then proceeded to reverse the mp3s back to their initial wav format via state of the art 2053 audio technology, and emailed them to richy at binary feedback, who subjected the files to a spot of mastering. richy immediately recognised the tunes from a series of youtube id request videos that had been doing the rounds for the previous 36 years. being the shrewd business man that he is, he decided to contact rick sanchez, who in turn teletransported the tracks back to 2017, dropping them off at an undisclosed dutch pressing plant. romanian visual artist raw parigi was contacted to sort out the labels, after which the records were pressed up and distributed to shops across the globe, hopefully making their way into the homes of hundreds of jungle and drumfunk enthusiasts worldwide. amen

�i�ve said it before, but dancehall and its influence on uk music has been a massive inspiration for me, going way back to hearing chris goldfinger on radio 1 playing music that was like nothing else i�d heard before. i love that fundamental rhythmic pattern, and i love how within the same world you can have some tunes that are built around the sweetest melodies and harmonies, and others that are built around super-tuff minimal drums and crazy squeeks and bleeps.
when it came time to build another ep for critical, i decided to link up with my good friend and long-time collaborator rider shafique, who has a much deeper knowledge of this music than me, and together create something that references both old and new dancehall, while still being playable in the kinds of sets i ve become known for. there�s no halftime and no chopped-up jungle breaks here - we wanted to make something really focussed and even disciplined - and hopefully we�ve succeeded.
big shouts to the vocal collaborators - super hyped to work with stush on a tune, irah came through with the righteous fire, and tiffanie malvo absolutely bodied her beat - but ultimate biggups have to go to rider. this wasn�t a project where i made the beats and rider voiced them - for pretty much every tune, we worked and reworked the riddims together. we�re both stoked on the results, and it seems like people in the dance feel the same way.� - sam binga

by now, the world is familiar with the extensive works of monsieur dimitri from paris. his prowess as a globetrotting dj and taste-maker for over 20+ years, his reputation for the finer things in life, his sartorial style and of course most importantly his infamous remixes and disco edits. isn�t it odd that until now, there hasn�t been an official home for the man�s stellar reworks? it just doesn�t make any sense. this is exactly the reason that he has decided to set up this brand new venture - le edits records. naturally, a high standard of quality is present with all le edits releases across the board - from sourcing 100% virgin vinyl used for pressing to the mastering through tape, to the beautifully crafted and designed tip-on sleeves that were popular with record companies in the 1960�s and 1970�s, to the wonderfully imagined graphic design that adorns said sleeves - dimitri has overseen every aspect of this, his first label.

for their 12th label anniversary, jazz & milk have decided to launch a new series called �twelve inch jams� in order to celebrate vinyl culture and the legendary 12&#8243,,, format! jams002 sounds the bell for the second round of the series including a 10 years re-issue of the classic sam irl cut �you don�t feel enough�. originally released as a b1 tune on his �african dance ep� debut on pulver records in 2007, this jazzy house gem found its way into the record bags of many influential djs over the years. from session victim, glenn astro, max graef to hodini� the record never disappeared in club sets but certainly from discogs a good while ago. so it was about time to give the tune a second life and finally press it on the format it deserves - a whole 12&#8243,,, side. the german production duo session victim are well-known fans of the track describing it as their secret weapon playing it in quite many dj sets for years, including their 2015 appearance for mixmag�s dj lab. hence, it is a great pleasure that session victim contributed a remix to the new release. their absolutely elegant and groove-driven version with a charming 90�s touch to it makes a brillant counterpart to the original with its jazzy piano-, drum- and double bass samples leading to an epic synth break that regularly causes ecstatic moments on the dancefloor.

just a few months after its first release, nitsa traxx comes back with a very special 12�. the project started with a file exchange between eduardo de la calle and ferenc. they decided to work each track on their own side using only a few isolated sounds from the other. this way none of the tracks could never be treated as a full original, but proper remixes of tracks that never existed, building an uncanny, almost dreamlike emotion. a side is for ferenc�s �parón largo�, where synthetic strings are omnipresent and time and space unbends, evolving to an anticlimax where an eerie vocal and the longest possible drop are the leading trademark. a never ending and emotional standstill that goes deeper than the mariana trench. eduardo de la calle uses his distinctive signature sound in the b side. �cloaking tech d fly d� is an obsessive yet beautiful track that reminds us of the somewhere in detroit series. this is a mental and heart-warming tribute to the motor city sound that just a producer like eduardo could do. next releases are on the corner already, and we can�t wait to share them with you.

we got cuthead on rat life number 12. you probably know this guy. he is respected worldwide for his one of a kind house and hip-hop productions. lately he said, he got a bit bored with all the soulful jazzy sampling, the groovy shuffles and the catchy hooklines. so, he decided to do something a little different for rat life records. well, thank you sir! happy to present these five variations of banging sounds!

a complex web � the story of dive position and the shining path ... began in 1982 when peter miller (aka dr. william s ray � vocals, tapes, guitar) met andrew millar (aka maurice spectograph the nose-y pieman � program execution) in gold coast, australia. while sharing a similar taste in music, they decided to form a band, so dive position was born. equipped with a korg synthesiser and tascam 4-track recorder, they -wanted to have the sound of kraftwerk, the groove of can, and the menace of throbbing gristle-, ending up with -a cross of suicide and the residents-, as peter recalls. in a local record shop they met stig andre leonardson (aka vincent blackshadow), who joined the duo on percussion and drum machine programming. their motto was -now is then-. dive position then became the fatal charm around 1984, and the fatal charm became the shining path who eventually released their only album -basic training manual- in an edition of only 250 copies, most probably in 1986. the band then started to drift apart, and shortly after andrew sadly passed away � this compilation -now is then- comprised of previously unreleased dive position and the shining path material is dedicated to his memory.

primitive trust is the coming together of two experienced musical minds. in one corner is will saul of the influential aus music empire, and in the other is tom mangan, aka tee mango, the producer who started millionhands record and clothing label. the pair met many moons ago and reconnected recently at a festival in morocco. they bonded over music, lunch and shared family travails - and as they both now live in somerset decided a little local studio collaboration seemed all but essential. between them, these consumate country gentlemen have seen plenty a musical styles come and go, so decided their best route forward would be to make music to please themselves. to that end, they holed themselves up in tee mangos woodshed studio with the following ground rules: they would make music only with the gear they had (mpc 2000, ableton, roland 101, juno, fender rhodes, various fx pedals) they would trust their instincts and go with first feelings they would embrace the joy of randomness if in doubt they would ask what would carl do? with that, you have the simple but effective mo of primitive trust. these sessions have resulted in a series of three eps to be released over the course of four months. each ep will feature 2 or 3 original tracks and one fresh remix, with unique artwork and an illustration by all-around visual auteur geoff mcfetridge. using the building blocks of house, and classic techno primitive trust can do zoned out and romantic, as much as driving and heady, but with an ease that comes from experience, years in the making. while tipping their proverbial hats to the past they also look to the future with their sound, mixing samples, wigged out synthwork and propulsive rhythms to create something honest and heartfelt that will stand the test of time

its certainly not easy keeping up with tuccillo. the relentlessly productive producer has been constantly firing off dancefloor bombs on labels as respected as visionquest, one, holic trax and 8bit for years, but never before has he turned his hand to an album. finally, hes decided to do the right thing and give us a deeper insight into his sound, and he s doing it on his own unblock label. fans will get everything they crave on a part of 20, as tuccillo indulges his dancefloor sound and keeps the quality level as high as ever. there are some choice guest turns from vocalists on tonight, feeling hot and again, but throughout the album tuccillos commitment to the stripped down, emotive house groove remains constant.

claude debussy (+1918) was one of the most popular and forward thinking composer associated with impressionist music. his innovative and at this time new way to compose music with non traditional scales and chromaticism inspired countless artists from the likes of steve reich, philip glass, miles davis and herbie hancock. remarkable attributes of his music were i.e. the usage of parallel chords, bitonality and many compositions of whole-tone and pentatonic scales and all this surely reminds us on contemporary electronic music where you hardly find limits or boundaries when it comes to traditional, harmonic sounding scale tone music. after studying countless composers of the last centuries marc romboy decided to accept the challenge to edit, remix and reconstruct several works of his favorite french composer, ranging from �la mer� to -prélude à l après-midi d un faune�. romboy: �one sentence of debussy impressed me a lot when he said that he simply intents to write new sounding music. this is and has been exactly my goal, to create kind of unheard sounds�. on the album romboy performs together with the dortmund philharmonic orchestra, the renowned conductor ingo-martin stadtmüller, the well respected düsseldorf based concert master miki kekenj and sound programmer ali khalaj. the recordings was directed december 12th 2016. it s the first live recording ever released on an album where electronic sounds and classical components were merged in such manner.

nice price deal !!! first single of english synth-melodic pop band chew lips on kitsuné. with remixes of tepr and david sugar. there is nothing quite usual about chew lips. not their way of making music, or their live shows, or indeed, their inception. when the vocalist tigs and multi-instrumentalists james watkins and will mcdonald decided to start making music together they had only one edict: not to sound like just another guitar band. the result was the organic and purely accidental evolution of their current, electronically enhanced sound every song sounds like it could be a planet-bestriding, galaxy swallowing pop smash, with will and james gorgeously whirling and mutating casiotone/guitar/bass/drum machine attack providing the perfect backdrop when the amazing frontwoman tigs s voice soars, swoops and dips precipitously and smoulders beautifully. with their first single solo on kitsuné, chew lips alternately capture the yearning, impatience, beauty, confusion and impermanence of youth, with tigs summing up the hopes and dreams of a whole generation with the fist-pumping battlecry of >we dont want to wait, theres no time, no time<. this is pop music alright, but pop with a gloriously vivid, almost cinematic sweep, as well as a human heart, filled with a very real sense of longing and desire, in amidst the shiny, clattering electronica. french producer tepr, well known for his remix of yelle >a cause des garcons<, has made of the song a dancefloor anthem while david sugar smoothly delivers an uplifted version of the track.

next up on hell yeah is -the most balearic record i have ever released- according to label boss & it comes from japan s disco don max essa which features a four part track, themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely, on one side of vinyl, and two more on the flip. essa was born matthew bruce and the uk artist has now been releasing his blissed out beats on labels like feel music, electric minds, bear funk and is it balearic? recording for a decade. a prolific producer whose big hits like panorama suite/uptown vibration (is it balearic?) from 2010 have long been in the hell yeah boss s record bag, essa first approached the label with a bunch of tracks. a good correspondence alchemy ensued and together the artist and label decided to put out the most timeless 12inch possible. the exquisitely ambitious themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely is almost 12 minutes of serene ambient synth work that is like a soundtrack to a hot summer s day. heavenly chords sound just like a breathy female vocal and as they come and go, one finger piano tinkles add real emotional beauty and gentle twinkles shimmer in the distance. half way through lazy drums propel things along at a loveably lethargic pace and immediately place you on the beach. on the flip, saguaro is just as organic and beautiful, but has tumbling drums, wooden hits and soft claps as well as essa s magical synth work all bathing your soul in warm rays. b2 buran chime is perfectly horizontal and expansive, with tinkling triangles, angelic chords and scattered hits and harpsichord sounds all radiating effusively. this is timeless music that will calm busy minds now and forever.

without artwork cover - only standard cover (see picture)...ltd warehouse / backstock - the midnite ep is the follow up ep to delano smith s sunrise ep on third ear recordings, released at the end of 2008. the sunrise ep was one of the underground house records of 2009, and the midnite ep is set to be one of the underground house records of 2010. both delano and us think the midnite ep is better than sunrise. after the sunrise ep, we decided to do it again and maintain the theme and name the next ep after a moment, a feeling within the dance floor experience. we decided on midnite. once again we have selected four tracks from a selection that delano sent us. you can play these tracks at any time of the day or night, and we encourage you to experiment in this way. however, dropping any of these tracks at midnite will ensure that you, your dance floor and all the people in the room will be set up for the journey. :-) a1: a special kind is constructed in the classic style of filtered samples from another record over a fat (really fat as this is a record made in detroit) kick drum. the samples are from ashford and simpson s stay free from 1979 on warner bros records. it is a sign of a good dance music producer that s/he can take an already great track and turn it into a dance floor bomb. delano has done this with a special kind. 117bpm. a2: dee s gruv is a very deep, very atmospheric groove. a crisp snare, a growling bass, a kick drum of varying intensity though the track framing the vibe, and a subtly modulating chord that goes on forever. hi-hats and ride cymbal move in and out of the track as it ebbs and flows. this kind of deep, grooving suspension of time is becoming a delano smith speciality. 122bpm. b1: the exploration is delano working through the same ideas as he explores in dee s gruv. hitting harder and driving faster than dees gruv, the exploration is a continuation of delano s search for the ultimate deep house groove. all students of electronic dance music should check this.

yet more classy techno emanates from paris hotbed of talent as the mysterious who decides to launch get your copy records after 15 years spent slaving away in the studio. making a statement with his first release, the long serving background artist has chosen to dig out an archival track and drop it as a single-sided 12-, the biggest compliment a track can surely receive. there s no doubt that -make my love- is worthy of such treatment, sporting a punchy set of techno rhythms that meet with sexy vocal licks and a deadly lead synth that truly marks the track out a crowd pleaser.

multi instrumentalist and deep house master lars bartkuhn returns to utopia records following his nomad ep in april with a 10 minute masterpiece, an ode to the massai . an epic journey of such depth and positive spirit it perhaps deserves to render a genre all to itself. with its musicality, complex arrangement and phrasing massai is a timeless and personal statement from bartkuhn as he seeks the essence in what dance music can and possibly should be. as a young child growing up in frankfurt, bartkuhn penned his first pieces of music with a synthesizer and sequencer, bought for him by his parents upon realising their son s obsession with music. mastering the guitar as a teenager bartkuhn fell deeply in love with the music of pat metheny, keith jarrett and john coltrane and styles such as soul, funk, brasilian sounds, minimal, dance, and others which is heard in his music today. by the mid 90 s bartkuhn began to explore the deep and soulful side of house music and formed lamaya productions and the now legendary record label needs (not wants) together with his older brother marek bartkuhn and dj yannick. needs rapidly became a synonym for soulful, high quality music and while labeled a house music imprint it was lars input that lead the trio to explore alternative, and at the time unorthodox, musical influences that allowed for original textures and arrangements to be included in their productions. countless remix commissions followed and their sound travelled worldwide with works for francois kevorkian, jazztronik, ennio morricone, atjazz to name a few. to date bartkuhn has produced five solo albums all of which demonstrate a never ending creative flow of ideas and artistic diversity, complexity and passion. after some years away from the dance music scene, residing in brasil, lars decided to continue this journey on volcov s neroli records, followed by a 12- for alex bradley s phonica affiliated utopia records. the latter release, nomad has found its way into the sets of the likes of jeremy underground paris, hunee, antal, ron trent, rainer truby, bicep and mcde to name just a few. it s at this point that bartkuhn gives us massai...his self proclaimed finest work

for many years, o, aka olivier marguerit has been considered as the best sideman of the french indie pop. permanent member of syd matters, he is the one with a complete background that always has been used to hightlighting and boosting the others. until one day he decided to to care for his ownself. after 2 albums confidentially released, known as o (ohm part 1 & 2), his first lp will come out 12th january. of course, it is about a brilliant and erudite form of pop. the album will be supported from december with many live dates, including the transmusicales of rennes, and the printemps de bourges afterwards.

deleted - with this fifth release, the moonrise hill guardians decided to deliver a vinyl conceived by half of them on the a-side and two friends they decided to invite on the b-side. the first side of the record is the more club oriented one, with two tracks from ethyène & folamour that sums well what made the early moonrise style, between smart soulful sampling to unstoppable groovy beats that will instantly make you burn a dancefloor. the second side starts with one of the two guests of this record, lb aka labat, with a house anthem that gathers all the detroit codes and an undeniable hip-hop influence. toshigi canopy has been asked to end the record, something that he did perfectly well with a more lo-fi track leaving you with a mysterious poetic taste that the moonrise hill guardians have always been defending.

welcome to season five of the jazz jousters sessions. after four years of non stop album releases we thought we d take a few months time out to think and work out what we would do next this season. we decided to attempt another locations series since we are yet to take on some of the locations many of you have suggested via our updates pages and emails. so here we go...
mjm would like to present locations: usa, the vinyl and cassette edition as we continue to explore the sounds, influences and styles of jazz music in different regions of the world.
in this session we hear the result of each jouster as they each chose one or more jazz musicians from the united states and began to work with that sound and come up with an instrumental in their own style, just like in season four. however there was a twist, this time they were challenged to focus on jazz between the years of 1960 to 1969. see what you think of the outcome...

cd included in the vinyl has the same tracklist. a relentless vinyl collector and a fervent connoisseur of anglo-american culture, the founding painter of the figuration libre movement (with di rosa, blanchart and boisrond) in the early 80s, robert combas has always connected his art with rock music. the two are always intertwined and fuel his inspiration. during his exhibition sans filet, robert combas made an essential encounter: the artist and video maker lucas mancione, also from the town of sete, and decided to make the leap. together, at the start of the decade, they created the band les sans pattes. notre renaissance is a dazzling discharge, a geyser of cold and searing emotions, a conscious search for a unique and extreme experience. the tension in each track is palpable, as constant as it is pregnant. this band is full of character. sometimes electronic, often a bit punk, always particularly rock n roll. raw and physical tracks, compact and heady. les sans pattes always lean towards psychedelics and repetition.

in 1979, emma dorgu decided it was time to act. he�d torn up the lagos live scene with the thermometers and conquered the airwaves with the single, �world people�. but there were injustices afoot, not just in nigeria, but in south africa and zimbabwe and across the continent as well, and he felt that something needed to be done. roverman was his politicized call to action. blackman akeeb kareem lent him the instruments and let him rehearse in his sitting room. dorgu sets his stall out early in the reggae-tinged �free my people� calling for freedom for south africa, freedom for zimbabwe, indeed, freedom for all. thankfully political injustice hadn�t rid emma completely of his urge to get on down. the new york ghetto funk of �roverman� and �loving� and the straighthead boogie of �afro fever� leaven the message with a funky beat and an irresistible pull towards the dancefloor. on roverman emma dorgu has achieved that that rarest of beats, an album that challenges your mind while it speaks to your feet. protest music has never sounded so funky.
