simbad teams up with south african vocalist brian temba, whose previous release together come join in dropped on hi:rise back in 2011. in it’s original form take my hand is a sublime, forward-looking deep and soulful house track based around a filtering symphonic string loop, low-slung groove and heart-felt vocal. simbad has created a very london-centric vibe but with a french touch and detroit sensibilities, drawing from house heroes such as parrish and bradock, joining the dots and creating a fresh masterpiece in the process. next up we have jimpster on the remix, picking up the bpm’s slightly and loading up on his trademark deep stabs, sub-bass and spacious fx adding just enough dance-floor bump whilst leaving the vocal placed firmly at the core. on the flip side we have two smbd zulu edits which replace the more spartan groove of the original with some driving afro percussion. the first version keeps the vocal intact, the second version goes balls deep into dub territory, closing out this amazing release with an instrumental pushing the strings and hypnotic groove front and centre

having previously released some rare solo material from ende shneafliet member hanjo erkamp aka dr. c. stein, artificial dance is now serving up something special from the cult dutch minimal wave band’s lesser-known side project, king ende shneafliet. adding king to their name in honour of original dub maestro king tubby, king ende shneafliet produced far more experimental and out-there material than their better-known big brother. they released their first cassette, dimension mix chapter i in 1981 via cult label trumpett, with batches of follow-up material trickling out on various obscure tapes and later cd-rs up to the year 2000. artificial dances first dip into the dimension mix archives a second vinyl volume will follow later in the year features selections from chapter ii (1999), which was originally recorded between 1981 and ’88. the magical, mind-altering music is raw, lo-fi, spaced-out and forward-thinking, combining effects-laden, sample-heavy sound collages and reverberating ambient soundscapes with pulsating proto-electro jams, moody minimal wave instrumentals and kosmiche-influenced throw-downs. it effectively joins the dots between early-80s, diy electronic exploration and dub soundsystem culture.

jonny rock a familiar face on the london house and disco scenes is recognized by many for working behind the counter at phonica records & blackmarket records during the 00s and as the dude for playing the guitar in freaks project. rock skillfully joins the dots between the old school house, underground disco and boogie vibes in a party setting.

first time lp reissue from the original 1985 master tapes on 180gr vinyl. including liner notes. on iii hymne houyoux further explores the electronic instruments he also used on planètes which results in a marvelous album that in some way connects the dots between ambient, library, cosmic and spiritual music.

next up on duskys renowned 17 steps label is the return of long term pal kiwi. having supported the lads on 9 of the 17 steps tour dates and having also provided the 15th release in the label catalogue - the fellow londoner now readies his oooh ep which comes backed up with a remix from feel my bicep affiliate hammer. kiwis sound is one defined by positive, kinetic feeling joining the dots between detroit techno, soul and balearic. with previous releases on futureboogie, life and death and moscomans lauded disco halal imprint, hes garnered several accolades including reaching number #85 in mixmag s top 100 tunes of 2017 and sitting at #1 in the genre chart for a total of 9 weeks with his orca ep back in 2016. now continuing on his ascent, kiwi lays out a pair of rapturous, gooey house jams that lands right on time for the festival season. on oooh vocal lines swirl over a largely beatless backing track. a rich, balmy feeling unfolds behind synth chimes and layered delays which work together to form an irresistible summer dj tool. andromeda then follows up and blends 80’s soundtrack-tinged stabs with crispy drums and thick sub bass before being accompanied by a pulsating synth line that carries the track to a delectable crescendo. hammer then closes things up with a somewhat hallucinogenic take on oooh with lfos, analogue sweeps and blobs of acid bleeding together to cap off an altogether warm and woozy trip.

topia records uncovers the work of alex kassian the kyoto born berlin based producer and dj whose work as opal sunn and al kassian has been turning heads and shifting feet in recent times. over the last decade kassian hosted word of mouth dances in london and berlin where he gained a reputation as one of europe s most promising artists. kassian s recent output has been primarily composing scores for contemporary dance and theatre in berlin, an approach he brings here to this 6 track ep hidden tropics . kassian inspired by other utopia records artists such as lars bartkuhn and vangelis katsoulis delves deeper into his compositional scope for a sound that joins the dots between ambient, world music to spiritual house in parts inspired by his homeland of japan as heard on bells of ukyo and the 80 s sakamoto-esque olson waters . the title track is a breakthrough in contemporary house music, sure to be picked up on by the tastemakers from new york to johannesburg to berlin to amsterdam to tokyo and beyond. cover image of tsuwaono sagimai by makoto furukawa, shimane, japan.

fresh on francis harris kingdoms imprint comes rasmus junckers ‘ophold - six tracks of sublime atmospheres and textures. the danish musician, sound composer and dj fits perfectly with the labels aesthetic, joining the dots between ambient, leftfield electronica and modern classical. juncker has a background in studying jazz drumming and has been playing improvised music within the jazz domain for many years. he also started to dj at the age of 14 and was introduced to the world of electronic music production at the same time. when rasmus started to think about his debut album he spent several months trying to find his own way to combine his favourite musical influences, improvisation, electronics and classical music. almost a year later, juncker says, i went to a sensory deprivation floating tank in copenhagen while researching for another performance and while i was lying there, floating in the water, deprived from most of my senses, i got the idea to do something drastic in my musical process. philosophers like immanuel kant describe this deprived state as a mental cesura, which became some sort of guideline for the album.

with »redsuperstructure«, robert lippok created a new foundation for his musical endeavors. now – 7 years later – this system properly comes to life on »applied autonomy«. the title of the new album is a clear indicator as to what the berlin-based producer has been up to during the last couple of years, both on a conceptual level as well as how he molds his ideas into tracks. »applied autonomy« orchestrates a certain state of frantic standstill, which occurs once a structure is set. has this state been reached, the artist is free to focus on other equally important aspects, balancing the various shades, pushing ideas even further to really make them shine and blossom in their self-declared autonomy. the more light one lets in, the more layers become visible. layers are key when it comes to understanding »applied autonomy«. big chunks of the material with which the album has been produced derive from sketches specifically made for a club performance. rather than meticulously devising each and every detail, lippok focussed instead on recording as many fragments as possible in a short period of time, elements which he could later combine and layer on stage. based on this material and his experience experimenting with it in a live environment, the album slowly began to shape. an album culminating in a collaboration with klara lewis, with whom lippok spent 2 days at the ems studios in stockholm, approaching the idea of autonomy from yet another angle. during the session, both musicians played and performed simultaneously, yet not explicitly together, lost in their own thoughts and ideas, only subconsciously taking in what the other one was coming up with. the result is »samtal«, 14 minutes of a constantly evolving state of poise, magically connecting all the dots lippok had already defined as »applied autonomy«. the artwork for »applied autonomy« has been created by the berlin-based argentinian artist luca gutierrez. over the last couple of years, he has made a name for himself with his spectacular av performances.

having previously caused a sensation with his releases on labels such as enchufada and naafi, siete catorce delivers four supreme cuts for his hypermedium debut, packed with his futuristic rhythmic craft and his highly hybridised sonic language. agnosia finds the mexicali-based producer joining the dots between cumbia’s seductive syncopations, the entrancing club-driven beats of tribal guarachero and ruidoso&#769,,,,n’s spooky experimentation. merging mexican traditional rhythms and contemporary dance motifs, the ep’s playfulness is further highlighted by imposing basslines, airy synths and eclectic glitches - its occasional sparse atmosphere quickly escalating to reveal some intricate, compulsive drum work. exquisitely intense, agnosia is undoubtedly siete catorce’s tour de force, revealing in every detail the finest textures of an ever-expanding affective continuum.

dsordne (pronounced disordine) is a project from torino, italy that evolved as group out of the electronic experimental post punk project novostj in 1987. at the core of dsordne is marco milanesio, musical engineer and co-founder of the hax record label, joined by a revolving cast of musicians. their spectrum ranged from experimental to structured electro-poetry and soundtrack like instrumental electronic music. in 1987 they released their first track on a split-single with the legendary pink dots. between 1987 and 1994 they released 6 full length albums, 3 split-eps and appeared on various cassette compilations.

was haben dr. doom, rhythm x, dr. octagon, big willie, mr. gerbik oder black elvis gemeinsam? alles pseudonyme des hiphop-urgesteins kool keith. da kann man schon mal den Überblick verlieren, zumal der ultramagnetic mc s-mc sich auch noch in zahllosen kollaborationen verstrickt. einen künstlerischen höhepunkt erreichte er aber zweifellos als dr. octagon. und nun erscheint endlich moosebumps an exploration into modern day horripilation – das follow up album zum 1996 erschienen dr. octagonecologyst. zum ersten mal seit mehr als 20 jahren ist das dreamteam dan »the automator« nakamura, mc kool keith (keith thornton) und dj qbert (richard quitevis) wieder vereint.

joris biesmans tve imprint returns for its third installment, this time featuring it’s eponymous founder front, center and recording under his own name. led by a forward-thinking electro remix from the ever-versatile man power, its another firm display of synth-led versatility, brimming with confidence and charisma. angry baby is an irresistible pressure-pot of stomping house, as playful as it’s name and as demanding as its imaginary infant protagonist, with a truly hypnotic, elastic breakdown proving irresistible in a club context man powers aforementioned remix is less loopy, more analog, with his well-tooled production technique pushing the records texture into altogether more cosmic and overwhelming territory, led by wailing synthesis. back to biesmans for b2, and a more acidic, almost unnerving vision unfolds throughout connecting the dots which does just that, linking futurist, michigan influences with a more floor-focused, european aesthetic.

following lo sheas industrial iterations ep, duskys 17 steps welcomes the mysterious polymod to the label family with a three track ep of club tools that draw on classic acid house and techno influences. hooked with a vintage 88 piano loop and tightly sprung bassline, opener no other has been ever present in dusky’s sets since the autumn - already inspiring multiple posts in a certain well-known facebook id group, as well as causing one eager id hunter to tweet dusky with home played piano videos of the main loop. for all its catchiness, though, it maintains an understated approach that plays on dynamics and contrast - a driving club tool. taking a darker route but maintaining the intensity, tx goes for the jugular with a looping surge of acid and rolling electro rhythms. completing the trio is the spacious pg1000 that joins the dots between 90s ambient, proto-house and detroit machine music at its most dreamy.

it was may 2017 when earthboogie’s debut release dropped on leng. the soundsystem-loving east london duo rightly won praise for a fine ep that brilliantly joined the dots between all things intergalactic, terrestrial and tribal. having spent the last ten months recording their adventures, izaak gray and nicola robinson return with “silken moon”, the first single from their forthcoming debut album, human call.

cute heels is the project of victor lenis, a contemporary electronic artist living in berlin, germany. he grew up in bogotá, columbia during the 1990s, surrounded by the radial punk scene. over the years, victor’s passion and fascination for synthesizers and drum machines to produce and compose resulted in his debut album “spiritual” for dark entries in 2014 as well as the “third skin” ep in 2016. inspired by equal parts liaisons dangereuses, drexciya and black devil disco club, cute heels connects the dots between detroit techno, early chicago house and belgium electronic body music. “state of mind” is a 4-track ep featuring the vocal talents of berlin artist aga wilk aka romance disaster on the the title track.

astrophonica label head fracture launches himself into 2018 with take you . nodding hard towards saucer-eyed 90 s italian piano house it features the lush vocals of lucie la mode while full tempo kick drums light the touch paper. smiles wide. utopia now. aa ‘northbound spiral’ continues the ascension to enlightenment with some hyper-rapid 4/4 escapism. hot on the heels of 2017’s anthem ‘cold & rain’, fracture and astrophonica continue to join the dots like no one else out there.

following on from co-ops vol. 1 (counter004), counterchange continues the various artist series with an 8 track, double vinyl edition for its tenth release. joining the dots between a network of producers all pushing boundaries in their respective fields, label curator inland (aka ed davenport) invited boddika (nonplus), cassegrain & tin man (killekill, infrastructure new york), distant echoes (dystopian), pharaoh & yogg (the block tel aviv residents, parallax), patrik skoog (sample & hold, headroom) and bnjmn (tresor, tiercel) to all submit new music.
the result is a heavyweight, diverse trip through modern techno, presented in a hand printed sleeve featuring artwork by carina wittmann, limited to 200 copies.

following our first release with opal, which aimed at the dance and the bodies, we wanted with this second ep to reach to people’s mind. as a geneva-based techno label, it was fundamental to work with our local hero: opuswerk. he’s already been working outside of the country with artists like francois x and labels such as arts, semantica or dement3d. it was time we involved him in our project. through this ep, opuswerk clearly shows what he knows and does best. much like his dj sets, he connects dots and layers in unexpected ways, like a rhizome connecting different multiplicities. inspiration for the original tracks came from designing systems of independent yet connected sounds, where events are triggered, un-triggered and alter other events, each behaving on their own. as one of those elements, the artist acts as a guide, directing them from one place to the next acting as and with the machines. the -mot d’ordre- is about becoming one of the machines, blending techniques with vibes and catching them like ever escaping dreams. the result is two uniquely sounding spaces, either filled with raw energy like on extensum or with subtle and serene ever-evolving bleeps on spatium. those two extremes are fitting to how we want present the multiple dimensions of our artists works to the world. the same logic went into choosing the remixers, with whom opuswerk had a human connection with. inland and antigone need no introductions, having both established their sound on labels like countercharge or token. each brought their own re-interpretations of the original tracks bringing them closer to the dancefloors.

reginald omas mamode iv has a terrific track record thus far. since delivering his debut 12inch back in 2013, hes barely put a foot wrong, with last years intimate friends released mini-album, all together, being a particular highlight. this debut full-length is every bit as impressive as youd expect, with the peckham producer relying a little less on dusty samples, and rather more on loose, live drums, rubbery bass guitar, dreamy rhodes keys, and other luscious instrumentation. as usual, the assembled tracks effortlessly join the dots between jazzy instrumental hip-hop, neo-soul, mauritian drum workouts, broken beat and humid, tropical-tinged grooves.

b-stock! cover with seam split. vinyl unaffected & mint. earth patterns is a new journey into sound by london based australian born musician ben davidson, best known for his disco tinged house singles as ben sun, that were championed by the likes of gerd janson and larry heard. the earth patterns concept presents a more expanded instrumental sound with live rhythm sequencing and synth work, sitting alongside vangelis katsoulis, lars bartkuhn and soichi terada on alex bradleys utopia records. davidson joins the dots between detroit by way of tokyo techno on sunflower to dream ii science deepness on horus rising and some worldly organic rhythms for a modernist and dare we say it utopian sound on after the rain. the analogue sound from his london studio comes through on the gentle and harmonic b-side opener transit pan perhaps the start of a journey beyond the dance floor for the producer. artwork and liner notes by davidson himself, all pressed by bespoke pressing plant the vinyl factory on heavyweight vinyl.

marlon hoffstadt is a rising star as both a dj and producer, effortlessly joining the dots between classic rave and the future of techno. taking a break from running his retrograde label, marlon has cooked up observing the known for ransom note records. over three tracks of warm synths, bubbly acid and emotional chord progressions, the ep sees marlon reimagining house music for todays dancefloor, taking the passion and energy of ‘80s chicago and giving it the production heft of 2017 berlin. opener ‘floating’ is a piano house classic, shot through with chimes and 303 gurgles, nostalgic for a golden age whilst optimistically looking forward. this is peak time house for dancefloors with heart. it’s followed by the computerised funk of ‘arp+’, an acid house roller that teams jacking 303 bass with mournful strings, as sorrowful as it is uplifting. b-side opener ‘batavus’ is a driving tribute to detroit, kevin saunderson-esque keys stabbing over soaring washes of synth, the sound of late nights and starry eyes. london-based scott fraser has added a remix of arp+ that takes marlons classic techno to darker lands, with snapping electro drums and deliberately seasick bass pressure ramping up the claustrophobia. this mix has already been causing huge damage when dropped on dubplate at fraser’s feted body hammer night.

on latino body music vol ii sano continues to explore his musical heritage connecting the dots between tradition and news. for this record he picks up the champeta style that had its origin in the streets of colombia. the mix of repetitive rhythm patterns and chants performed by local legends like hernando hernandez is an integral part of the huge soundsytem culture that takes place in the streets of cartagena. by adding small hints to contemporary western club culture like a classic house piano, or an acid baseline sano reinterprets the tracks for our dancefloors without loosing any of the original hypnotic flavour. the early champeta dances were called therapy and seen as distraction from everyday problems. lets move!

ig culture and alex phountzi are namebrandsound and are back with their third ep on their own arena yard imprint. known for their roles in the broken beat movement, namebrandsound puts a nowadays take on a lifetime of different influences. their most comprehensive body of work today the seven track spell t.h.i.s.o.n.e ep joins the dots between broken beat, juke, jazz, jungle and dancehall, from the grime jazz of harvest your manor to the new school bruk style of patience which features west london r’n n sensation, abel miller, to the straight up juked style of the title track

hero wouters is a dutch artist who has been active since 1950. through the years he has been involved in many (music) projects. his work in the field of electronic music ranges from synthpop to experimental music. some people might know him from his collaborations with the legendary pink dots and edward ka-spel. other people might know him from his contributions to the obscure contactdisk vinyl series or his appearance on the legendary dutch ding-dong tape label. featured on this lp is work by hero wouters from 1982, 1984, and 1986. most of the material was written for a dutch film (‘een zaak van leven en dood’) and a theatre play (‘laios’). the music has been (partly) released on cassette on hero’s own label herophone. now it is for the first time available on vinyl. the music has been restored from the original tapes and mastered for vinyl with great care not to loose the original feeling. below you can find soundclips for the tracks but we feel these do not give a really good impression of the record. the music (and the record) have to be heard in total (and as a whole) to be fully experienced and appreciated. we are proud to present this beautiful and simply fantastic music by a dutch artist that deserves more attention. the wonderful cover artwork is a drawing by maaike.

sunlightsquare s first single of 2017, oyelo, is a mixture of jazz, cuban and house music in its most authentic form. starting with moody latin-jazz piano and sun-drenched live percussion played by master percussionist giovanni imparato, the track is driven by the classic house beat of the tr-909 - the legendary 1980 s drum machine. ronnie scott s resident cuban singer rene alvarez delivers the impassioned vocals, followed by the main man claudio passavanti s heated montuno piano riffs, which combine seamlessly to create a blissful, dance-floor experience. it s a perfect marriage of organic grooves, lush beats and soulful vocals, joining the dots between different generations of latin dance music.
for the b side, london based, japanese producer kay suzuki transformed the original track into his signature psychedelic journey in 2 parts. his by the sea mix takes you to the havana beach with its synthesiser generated waves & seagulls right from the intro. the stripped-down beats and vocals are smoothly laid out with warm analogue synth textures, giving more space to claudio s tasteful latin-jazz keyboard improvisations. in contrast, the drum dub goes to the opposite side of the spectrum, all the musical elements have been removed, focusing solely on the live percussion and the raw tr-909 beat, all dubbed out with tape delays for a classic cosmic dub treatment.

label boss tonbe is back on disco fruit under the moniker loshmi for the first time. loshmi is specialized for great disco and funk re-edits and he is a well known with his serious edits series on digital imprint. he constantly trying to blur dots between disco, funk and house music. these four tunes are selection of loshmis best selling pieces on digital imprint. highlights include the pounding disco-rock-flute workout drugstore. sweet & nasty is just about as seductive as you can get those strings do some real damage in that groove, while wsoop wsoop deliver heavy, floor friendly p-funk workouts.

!! repress !! , following a recent outing under the mandar alias alongside studio pals samuel andre masden and charlie naffah, nick putman presents his first solo single under the malin genie guise for two years. predictably, he explores a range of deep house styles over the course of a four track ep thats both quietly confident and largely impressive. theres a real bump to sense of swing, despite the presnce of warm, fluid keys, while propter successfully joins the dots between loopy tech-house and shimmering deepness. the techno influence is more obvious on the flip, where redskap and ulux both derive potency from the hypnotic nature of putman s immaculately produced groove.

(180 g vinyl) 10 years on, arthur verocais encore gets a vinyl release. the highly anticipated follow up to arthurs eponymous debut album from 1972, encore saw arthur joining the dots over 35 years to createa modern classic of brazilian music that, like his debut, combined brazilian influences with his take on american soul and cinematic experimentation, and shows arthurs sound is as poignant now as it ever was.
