heat in two belgian flavors! check out the zaïrian electronic dance floor banger “nakombe nga” by les choc stars. comes with the dope, largely unheard belgium new beat version on the flip from the teknokrat s. both tracks were originally released in 1989 and this is the first time they appear together on 12-. reissue co-curated with renowned record fiend john gomez. the music on this winning double-sider was written by tony baron and gery françois, two belgian producers that were involved in several musical projects on the new beat scene in the 1980s. they worked under many aliases and recorded the teknokrat’s haunting “what did she say?” at the famous studio madeleine in brussels in 1989. prompted by jean martin from espera records, baron adapted the music into a further two songs to be released that year, virginity’s melancholic “the key”, and the surprising but ear catching collaboration with the label’s soukous stars, ben nyamabos les choc stars du zaire. it is still a mystery how the seeds were planted for the one-off pairing that culminated in the electronic soukous bomb “nakombe nga”. what is certain is that it is set to light up dancefloors worldwide.

lost in a big bag of cassette tapes in an attic in wales, this archive of works contains 11 original tracks recorded over a 25 year period by dj guy. taken from the original cassettes, remastered and cut to vinyl, they are finally given the release they deserve and are a testament to the talent of one of the uks most gifted producers, cardiff’s guy evans.

new glasgow electro and techno label tremors presents our first vinyl release - aftershocks volume 1, a collection of remixes of tracks from our bandcamp releases. the a1 comes from electro legend dexter, a man who needs no introduction, remixing old boy s tracer. next up is james shinra (analogical force) one of our favourite contemporary electro artists, remixing arctor memory gene. on the b-side we have patrick walker (forward strategy group) remixing arctor s selfish lover into a slamming acid techno banger. rounding it off is relatively unknown hungarian producer david harleydson who has been self-releasing highly impressive electro albums through bandcamp. he has applied his own unique style in a remix of arctor the gulf.

the german boogie compilation “boogie on the mainline” presents a selection of 10 rare disco tracks from germany plus one more tune from austria, all of them, originally released between 1980 and 1987. check! . the fully licenced album contains little known tunes by groups like imagination (which you can also see on the cover of the lp), squish, upstairs, the poptown syndicate and more. as the boogie-ish post-disco side of german music history still basically remains undiscovered as of yet, “boogie on the mainline” hopefully will shed some light again on 11 rare gems that were mainly published on small or private labels. the album is released on loudly pressed double vinyl with gatefold jacket on the new artless cuckoo sister label boogie on the mainline records. it includes extensive liner notes by compiler john raincoatman aka dj scientist.

rob belleville is a producer from the netherlands. his music can be found in the same space as producers such as arne weinberg, microworld, sean deason and drivetrain. he is know for moving between ambient electronica and atmospheric techno sounds, always warm and well produced. this release is no different, as here we have two very special tracks with the same integrity as anything rob has written in the past. on the a side we ve got implacable force which features a driving techno foundation and washy synths, interwoven for perfect headspace. the second track in is sungazing, which takes you into a more lazy groove with swirling, warm pads and more good drum programming. the b side features rise n shine and sands of time, both blurring the line between deep house and techno, with a fine balance between the melodic textures and tech house percussion. if you like atmospheric, melodic textures and quality music in general, this one is for you.

an all-time rave classic gets the gerd janson re-loving as he works his magic on the 1992 anthem dont go. 26 years on from it s first release, gerd takes the tempo down a notch laying out that all too familiar drum break, instantly recognisable piano line and julie mcdermott s timeless vocals. his subtle touches and added weight, behind a pounding kick, are sure to set any dancefloor alight. about as euphoric as they get - if this doesn t do the business then god help us all. on the b side, belfast s ejeca flips don t go into a heavy-hitting, rave tinged, techno bomb. his inventive sampling turns the synth stabs and vocals on their heads, making them almost indistinguishable, but no less impactful, from the original. it s over four and a half minutes till the iconic chord progression is heard in it s initial form, before ejeca throws it back into a rapid fire, industrial thumper. lastly, gerd serves up a vip dub mix echoing claps and synth lines into the stratosphere, whilst leaving the vocals at bay, save a short cry of don t go from julie towards the end of the track, allowing those anthemic elements to do the talking. a modern touch on an all-time classic from gerd with a complete reinterpretation from ejeca, this is a heavyweight release and one thats already being played by the biggest and the best out there.

soul dynamite pull no punches with the follow-up to their first release and go straight for the jugular with some vintage mr lif fire a 45 splitting mr lifs seven-and-a-half minute return of the b-boy into parts 1 and 2 one on each side. thats not quite as weird as it sounds for on lifs critically acclaimed debut full-length from 02, i, phantom, the el-p produced return of the b-boy features a fade and then a complete change of beat change for the epic third verse. the first half is dark, space-funky boom-bap while the second half is er even darker, and a bit faster, space-funky boom-bap. either side though, you’ll be able to revel in such a-grade lyrical excoriation of race relations in the states as, theyre defacing masterpieces, just to blast to pieces/ what’s dope and hope that wed accept a wacker thesis. jesus! black vinyl.

duke ellington once said that there are 2 kinds of music: the good one and the bad one. with the compilation series shaolin soul we are always certain to be on the right side of the line since its 1st episode released in 1998 and which compiled two dozens of tracks sampled by rza and the wu-tang clan. following a second episode in 2001 and a third one in 2014, the famous curator uncle o is back to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the shaolin soul series with a fourth episode compiling 22 tracks among the rarest and finest treats of soul music, because everybodys talking about the good ol days!

this is a rare gem of a record from fantastic soul band the soul kids stemming from the democratic republic of congo, including covers of james brown & the mighty flames hit singles -lickin stick- (1968), -papa s got a brand new bag- (1965), wilson pickett’s -hey jude- and a french vocal version of otis redding’s soul hit -respect -. this amazing young band, which released only four 7inch singles and one album, is a great example of the influence of soul music and french pop bridging to the new afro soul scene that the musicians of kinshasa were involved in during the time of post-independence. ngoma was one of the first record labels intent on providing local artists recordings from both sides of the congo river to the people of the drc and west africa. created in 1948 by a greek man by the name of nicolas jeronimidis, the ngoma label was active through 1968, pressed in france until 1971, with a tremendous catalogue, including this historical and essential soul masterpiece!

alma negra are back on heist! after their much applauded 2017 release with that great soulphiction remix, theyve been rather busy taking over the scene. they started their new label alma negra records where they released 3 eps in quick succession, with new as well as older material that showcases their tropical roots and keen ear for clubby reworks. they launched their live show, doing gigs across europe with a highlight at one of londons more intimate live venues: the jazz cafe. their latest outing making their release count a total of 4 in only 8 months was on marcel vogel’s lumberjacks in hell and explored the more live / rework side of their project. now theyre back on heist with 3 new tracks, supported by an awanto 3 remix. conversation is a track we wanted to put out on heist badly, simply because it’s a beast of a track. it sits somewhere between a live african drum track, percussive techno and moody midwest electronics, with pads and strings coming in and out of play while a relentless kick drum keeps the energy on a haunting level. this track is alma negra at their filthiest, and it feels like they’ve taken a next step from last years dark and heavy luanda dub, bringing it from an intimate dreamy stage straight into the main room. this is the place shows a different side of the house spectrum with the alma’s love for dreamy deep house. the track flows up and down, with soothing rhodes chords, arpeggios and mumbling vocals setting a summery mood thats perfect for your warm up or daytime party. meanwhile, their third original track from the heart goes even deeper and navigates around a smart vocal loop topped with strings, bleeps, claps and rimshots that just keeps going.

as well as manning his own label duro, theus mago can be found slinging out heat on turbo, kill the dj and more recently ombra. the mexican producer returns to home turf for his latest transmission, serving up one original track with two killer remixes. -inertials- is a rowdy beast in its original form, tapping up a breakbeat roll, dirty wave synth stabs and plenty more sonic debris for a cut that spans a whole lot of styles and makes them gel together seamlessly. inigo vontier takes the original and makes it into a bone-rattling drum track to batter the crowd into submission very late on in the dance. jamie paton takes a different approach on the b-side, weaving a little tenderness into the mix with some elegant synth lines that offset the raw bite of the drums beautifully.

jude greenaway joins analogical force with e.oneseven ep . some might already know scanone from past releases on combat recordings and yellow machines. intricate breakbeat treatments with crisp electronica melodic edits, twisted future hardcore and london-bred basslines...the sound of scanone in 2018. on the b-side the conner brothers reappear after a long silence as bitstream, to twist re-turn into the darker dystopian side. fans of solid underground music take note

the „will you be there ep” completes the „christophe salin - ep series“. he is taking us on his musical journey and paves the way for cooperation with future artists on his very own imprint „salin records” that he runs with his wife daria salin as a platform for electronic music and art. „to love” is what it’s all about, love your next one, love yourself, love what you do, love music and art. needing a bridge at this point nothing would be sweeter than a little excursion to the french touch sound and vibes of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. so, the a-side ends up with a question „shall i give love another try“…flip side „i’ll think of you” keeps this mood until „your soul” takes us slowly over to the final declaration of love „lullaby for daria“.

we introduce comfort zone, a young producer from montreal, who has been making music for around 7 years now. he is inspired by “music from late 90s/early 00s video game soundtracks and the occasional snippets of electronic music i heard as a kid”. we find that statement very much reflected in this release, as he masters the challenge of blending mysterious samples and different styles to form harmonious compositions. on one side of the 4-track ep we have 2 groovy house tracks, reminiscent of early 2000s house by the likes of lance desardi, ian pooley and atjazz, on the other side 2 classic jungle tracks which uphold our tradition of releasing timeless music.

we are pleased to have a debut release on nomine sound from e3 breaks. this outfit consists of grime maverick as if kid and the one and only godfather of grime dj slimzee. this guise that these 2 have opted to go with seems to have given them the urge to explore the deeper and darker side of the 140 sound. get your bass bins ready!

external assessment vs. self-conception by robag wruhme: people always think, im that serene and quiet guy, but actually i’m quite a noisemaker. could be that the majority of the material he put out in recent years, most notably the thora vukk album, led to the overall apprehension of robag being the virtuoso of everything subtle, enigmatic and tenderly melodic. well, thats far from being a misconception, but still just one side of the coin. the other side is embossed with his most current productions, consolidated to a double ep, captioned with the enchanting name wuzzelbud ff. wait a second wuzzelbud devoted fans will instantly prick up their ears. we’ve heard that before. back in 2004 robag wruhme released his first longplayer named wuzzelbud kk. as theres no such scenario robag might be running out of stream-of-consciousness turned nonsense titles for his music, this must be a vocabulary intersection linking the early days of his career with its status quo. and it is. wruhme presents wuzzelbud ff as the stylistic follow-up to his debut album, showcasing a sound he commits has been neglected for too long. wruhme cuts to the chase: i wanted to put out some straightforward music for the dancefloor, something for the primetime. well, for the primetime of my sets, at least.

one of stephan and marc s biggest tunes ever, kerberos comes along with brand new remixes. diynamic s solomun teams up for the first time with johannes brecht and their debut convinces with driving beats, fresh sounds and a composition of synth lines which won t leave your brain anymore. on the flip side you can find two versions by andré hommen, who has been responsible for countless club weapons on labels like objektivity, poker flat and these eyes plus dublin s poster boy matador who recently delivered a master piece with his legendary remix of oxia s „domino“.

when looking for music to be released on magazine, our guideline has always been energy. the key question remains the same: does the artist have something important to say? does it have a sense of urgency? alex played us these tracks while visiting the magazine studio in cologne earlier this year and we were consumed by unadulterated rage. this is anything but a conceptual release, alex has not released this kind of music before. a side of alex manifests itself through these techno tracks, that most might not have known before. brutal yet beautiful, furious yet fragile. a berlin native who shaped his sense for techno by striving through his hometown and its infamous raves, alex is now one of the prominent protagonists of that scene – not only when regularly playing at berghain. the ep harnesses this experience perfectly, fully preserving the energy of the creation process by recording directly to tape. most productions may have suffered from this primitive method of locking sound into position, but not these tracks from a techno master.

when it comes to gritty sample-based house the guy white label series has really been going from strength to strength. for the third in their unrelenting streak dj counselling steps up to offer up a therapy session like no other. sit back, relax and put your mind at ease and you ll soon be taken on a reflective journey for the soul. on one side you have curt s jam an introspective and emotive piano laden, lo-fi house track complete with choice vocal snippets set to sooth those pains. flip it and theres a more bumping groove to the therapy session, qualified by a pensive dialogue that makes way for an oscillating synth jam backed with a killer tom pattern.

with the summer season well and truly in full step, mosaic returns with two finely tuned cuts of classic dubbed-out minimalism. a side in the night is a typically understated affair from label boss steve o sullivan under his wise caucasian alias. propelled by a bass-heavy tone and lit by layers of percussion that build on each other you ll find yourself getting lost in the washes of sparse vocals, rhythmic stabs and splashes of delay that reach out over the dance floor. far from providing instant gratification, this requires timely and repeated play to uncover the layers of subtle finesse and craftsmanship: perfect for keeping those feet moving at any hour of the night, or day for that matter. on the b side, steve teams up once again with fellow londoner, frazer campbell on rise which goes straight for the full smile effect as the duo conjure up one of those rare pieces of magic. set to a melee of skippy percussion, high-pitched toms and warmly toned melody, the prophetic voice of maya angelou and her timeless poem still i rise resonates supreme, bringing a touch of thoughtful intelligence thats all too often forgotten. as the track hits it peak, you cant help but feel the deep elation a groove like this brings in the darkest of hours.

"texas-based electronic music producer phillip washington aka cygnus was on bit of a hiatus since his phenomenal -cosmos- long play on fundamental records, released near the end of 2016. with this ep, titled -ne0 ge0-, he s breaking the silence and we re extremely happy to see it happening through barba imprint. the record consists of 4 cuts; -zone shifting-, -vertexing-, -ne0-ge0- and -astronoot- which all share common qualities of his previous work - deep, spacey, richly textured and really well crafted. -zone shifting- is what electro in 2018 should sound like. deep, emotional and futuristic but well grounded in the human condition through the vocal line which seems to haunt from the distance. -vertexing- is a slightly more paced, moodier affair with slow enveloping vangelis-esque synth lines bleeding all over traditional electro sounding beat. however, in this case that s exactly what s needed. title track, -ne0-ge0- is the first one on the flip side and the busiest one. creasing of multiple synth lines and pads is done in such an expertly elegant manner that you just can t resist but play it loud on a big soundsystem and see what it does to the dancefloor. and finally, record closes with -astronoot-, and as b2 tracks usually are - it s the deepest of them all, reserved for those heady moments when you need something to bring the magic to the next level."

jeremiah jae (aka black daffi) is an experimental hip-hop artist born and raised on the south side of chicago. he is a visual artist, producer, emcee and founding member of black jungle squad, a music collective consisting of close friends and family. early works by jae dating back to 2007, display his unique style and approach to crafting his own version of “hip-hop”. the genre is one of many foundations the artist uses to communicate his range of styles as shown on previous self-released albums, compilations and collaborations (holy smoke, oliver the 2nd, l’orange, cohenbeats, pbdy), as well as praiseworthy offerings on brainfeeder and warp records. with his newest solo album daffi, jae expands on his production and speaks in the persona of his alter ego to express a darker side.

back with another pair of his heavy-hitting hardspace mixes, len faki hands two mighty club-weapons. aimed at no less than unleashing havoc on the floor is the edit of frantic drum-roll-fest lazer beam. already quite a force to be reckoned with, faki manages to beef-up the mix even more, adding rumbling bass-weight and injecting some extra steam to make it roll out until the end. on the flip side there‘s the hypnotic groove of space taxi. captivating and enveloping, this mix alters the original signature bass in order to shift gears into what feals like full forward there‘s no escaping this one! as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded to the berlin organization straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

for its third release interstate records welcomes dold. throughout releases on polegroup, mindtrip or his very own imprint arsenik, the swedish producer has shaped a distinctive sound - raw, minimalistic yet warm and energetic. for ins003 he delivers two tracks. while the title track, “version”, demonstrates dold’s darker side, “rise and fall” bears a more hopeful tone. although the vibes are different, both tracks are driven by the same raw 909 - infused drums that have made dold one of the hottest swedish talents in the first place. as in previous releases, the two originals are accompanied by two remixes on the b-side. the first one comes from virgo and soma records protege slv. while focusing on the synth of the title track, smacking percussions and dark tribal sounds add a more punchy and energetic vibe to the original. klockworks affiliate newa, however, laid eyes on the pads and strings. through carrying “version” into slightly more playful and spheric worlds the georgian delivers an ideal closing to this records.

next up on nang it is time for a slice of spot-on male vocal house and disco. liverpool based thomas lang made some fine albums in the 80s and 90s with john murphy (who went on to carve a highly successful career in movie tracks) and david hughes. somewhere in between that and a string of recent albums (“torch songs” and “the german alphabet”) he also managed to buy one of the finest recording studios in north west england, parr street studios (the “abbey road of the north”). we are pleased here at nang to see a new avenue turned in tom’s life, his first foray into the dance world. “scared” was written with late liverpool songwriter john uriel quite some time ago. it first emerged as a b-side to tom’s comeback single “august day” in 2011. here at nang we always loved the smooth and sophisticated vocal and melody. when tom suggested some remixes we were on board.

dynamic dj and producer kölsch is set to release hal, his brand-new collaborative effort with canadian techno heavyweight tiga, on new label ipso. well known for his genre-defining cuts, danish producer kölsch has sold millions of records all over the world under his many different monikers, including seminal lp ‘1977’ and his widely acclaimed albums ‘1983’ & ‘1983’ & ‘1989’, with the latter including kölschs biggest track ‘grey’. a purveyor of deep and minimalist techno, tiga released his 3-track ‘stay cool’ ep earlier this year, with the game changing producer receiving a wealth of support from bbc radio 1 tastemaker pete tong on his last album, the 11-track ‘no fantasy required’ on counter records. made up of thunderous a-side ‘hal’ and a double b-side - containing the cosmic chord patterns of ‘first blood’ and the sinister build of grumbling ‘still so high’ - kölsch and tiga will also perform together b2b at offsonar this summer, with kölsch also scheduled to play a primetime headline set at belgian mega-festival, tomorrowland. “about a year ago i launched my label ipso”, said kölsch. “this summer ipso 002 is coming up, and it s a collab with none other than tiga. we spent a couple of great days in my copenhagen studio, and came up with 3 tracks i m really proud of. since the first release, i also started my ipso night in the legendary gewölbe club in cologne. i’ve had amazing nights there over the last 2 years and now it s time to expand.” having started his ipso residency in cologne, playing a mammoth 9 hour sets, kölsch has since expanded the brand to miami and watergate berlin, with further destinations in the pipeline. labelled as ‘the king of house” by annie mac, who added that kölsch, the ipso boss has garnered a reputation as one of dance music’s most talented producers, playing several ibiza dates over the summer, including ants, hi&#776,,,,,, ibiza’s ‘in the dark’ and circoloco. follow kompakt
