yes ... we release records. yes, its marvellous to see that journey from the spring to the sea, that spark of inspiration in an artists eye as it traverses its way to a beautifully packaged piece of 180g vinyl ... but sometimes, its also nice to remember why we started a label in the first place and to visit that dusty corner of the studio where synths, patch cables and spring reverbs lie in wait, taunting us go beyond that perfect 3am comfort zone of the 8 bar loop, hazy red/orange lights and aromatic combustibles.
in order words, heres what we did last summer ... two new ifeel studio tracks to stimulate your solar sensibilities, guest starring (via the wonders of skype) richard hawleys band, a reclusive mittle european synthesist and (lest we forget) his eccentric and slightly mad octogenarian lawyer.

leaving in their wake a trail of mass seduction, the wolf + lamb crew are back from their recent worldwide dj kicks tour, bestowing two of the sonic jewels that lit up those clubs, rooftops and basements. main players gadi mizrahi, soul claps eli goldstein and greg paulus of no regular play, impart the w + l effect with the >lucky paul remixes< courtesy of somethinksounds. while gadi mizrahi & zev eisenberg of wolf + lamb are in no small part responsible for the sexy slo-mo revolution in rnb and disco inltrated house music, they cannot be accused of languishing in the hype of their own movement or direction in sound. instead, the label is backing a seemingly endless stream of talent in north america and beyond, consistently unearthing and nurturing artists that share the same ethos and intrinsic approach to creating timeless music that is not built to rush, and dissipate but drive into your soul and set up home there. here, the new collaborative case in point is berlin resident and new zealand native lucky paul

this is one of those timeless tracks that you still hear played out today. when it was released, orbit 1.3 was played by pretty much every representative of the tech-house sound - it featured on mixes by craig richards & lee burridge, doc martin, dj garth, sean cusick, dj three, and many more besides. not only that, but its appeal spread as far as the progressive fraternity and those of more traditional house sounds. its a deep throbbing epic with a haunting vocal sample and that indescribable >x factor< that makes a classic track.

if you were to cut neville watson he would bleed acid house, he would also quite likely knock you flat on your arse for having the temerity to wave a knife at him, but thats a whole other story. for his first wu contribution he ventures down the ethereal proto-house boulevard. jacking 707 patterns, a bouncing juno bassline and outer-space synth lines take you into the upper atmosphere for a glorious airborne joyride. as ever, neville manages to evoke those 85-89 feelings without ever sounding merely retro or like some kind of pastiche, something that many attempt but very few manage to pull off. over on side u apiento, the force behind the magisterially brilliant testpressing website, chips in with a heartfelt homage to the new beat sound. another testimony to the fact that a lower tempo doesnt have to mean diminished energy levels, the orange place simply oozes class from top to bottom. like some lost ancienne belgique classic it pounds and pumps along, building up the tension all the while until the quasi- eastern refrain lets loose half way thru and all of a sudden a mystic portal opens up in the space-time continuum that leads all the way to southwark street in late 87.

slamming remix ep. the first track of this ep is a special vinyl version which is a bit more trippy than the 2010 original. the second one is a remix by solan who take the vocals and pitch them down to create a fantastic detroit-styled remix. matthias meyer and patlac who are well known from their latest releases on labels like cecille, liebe*detail and baalsaal contribute with the second remix, an incredible tech-house bomb that will surely do the job on every floor of this planet. last but not least filtertypen spice up the original with their unique rhythms and some fresh new chords.…

in denmark, there rages a lively and experimental techno scene - and its not only a recent phenomenon. the best proof are phono and kemi, two danish imports to the berlin record label, highgrade records. the two chaps complement each other in a musically virtuoso fashion: phono, jacob thiessen, spent his childhood playing around with sequencers and drum machines: over the years he has stuck to this passion and as such, has developed a reputation as an experienced house and techno producer. kim kemi, by contrast, has been a dj since the beginning, and since the 90s has been one of the key figures in the copenhagen club scene. together they have not only performed regularly at the biggest events in denmarks capital, but have also ensured through their many releases, ever changing accents and atmospheres on the turntables. this wealth of combined musical experience can be heard instantly on their latest outing for highgrade – >decompose<. the three tracks, >decompose<, >exterminators< & >last night< assemble rhythms that come from punk, elegant voices and dizzying loops a multi-layered sound excursion. the result is a perfectly produced ep, but one that has not been ironed smooth. with the >made in denmark< seal of quality, phono and kemi bring some extra depth to the party attitude

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. open air 2011 !!! this is definitely a serious movie, but in this case quite large. the swiss cowboy mario zar returns with his second ep on leutral the soundtrack to the movie the ocean plant. give the way he has managed to human emotions amid societal cold again, has something very enchanting. the very first track is the title theme from the film of the same. open air heartbreaking mood with an incredible catchy tune. finally one has the feeling again - that it is - the ultimate track - summer sun sunshine - large movies 2011 - 30 degree in the shade - and then this track. martin brunner has made a realistic study and there is the typical brunner sound with 3d effects and full speed ahead. in the film, two water plants are fighting for a piece of land on the ocean floor. they also use modified shiruken. the special feature is the integrated facebook app that posts the current status of the strikes. but otherwise the film is bursting with new-fashioned bio-weapons. a high-level cold saw turns the two water plants and over again in his way. at the end of the film, the two water plants enthusiasts. what they have experienced before you can watch and listen in this awesome movie. now playing in your cinema worldwide!

the next coup by sirion records is from none other than one of the founding fathers, fedja haueter aka feodor and his fellows alex torriglia aka mo-tek and beni dossenbach aka balance. the trio, better known as vol-tek, has played a key role since the very beginnings of sirion s musical outpours and was represented in sr001 with a remix. numerous remixes and their own release sr005 - vol-tek - male & female are further to be mentioned. a part from sirion records the trio was represented at friends labels such as cristian paduraru or samy freshs augenringe records. but their next big thing is yet to come, as the threesome has been finishing tracks throughout the past year and surely need to be reckoned with in the future. the tracks after dark and conciliator are both rather deep, playful tech-house gimmicks, enriched with a bit of progressive.

trio techno cover, it was just a question of time to reach the point when wayne considers himself to be the one to create a musical statement in order to show what he thinks about all the current status of some parts of the electronic dancemusic circus. he still suffers from too much so called >minimal< in his eyes and he wants back the energy he is missing on many occasions… >you know, techno without bass is like f…… without screwing him in…< some might say he s too late with this song, but thats simply wayne! in his universe the meaning of time is different to what we all would expect. anyway, he finally checked out garage band on the mac he recently >lended< from somebody he does not even know, and here we go with his first very own song. lyrics in german only and heavily inspired by one of the biggest hits from the 80ies from the german cult-formation >trio<, but to make a long story short: its waynes message that the so called minimal sound is definitely over now: >always klick and always klack, i can not tell how much it sucks...<

bodyscrub is one of the most exciting & uprising talents of the growing neapolitan techno scene. with mind blowing releases on labels like phobiq and 1605 he was able to catch our attention, so we are glad to announce his first ep on driving forces recordings. with >hyperactive< and >regular< bodyscrub delivered 2 slamming & modern high quality techno tracks for the peak time. but that’s by far not all!

the partnership between artists john selway and dave turov spans not only across the atlantic, but it has also resulted in a series of successful colla-borations on their label csm. the debut release on the interpull imprint showcases their signature no-nonsense, dance? oriented techno. expanding on their previous work, >choo got it ep< carries with it a modern take of classic in? uences from chicago, detroit, and berlin. this release is marked by just as much stylistic skill as it is by their technical skill: both selway and turov put the highest production values possible into their releases. the a-side of the ep, >choo got it<, grooves hard with an upbeat rhythm and a bouncing bass line that refuses to let up. combining funky house elements and a raw driving techno pace, this is the kind of track that either gets you on the dancefloor doesnt let you off once you hear it go on. the b-side, >way to my heart<, presents a darker take on the ep with plentiful bass and restless energy. it provides a cavernous sound thats happy to shake your techno cathedral of choice

aah, how we have missed them! the fine young gentlemen that are channel x, two of stil vor talents most active producers of meticulously crafted and deeply energetic tech-house smash hits. and just in time for the open-air season they now come back with two very convincing pieces of dancefloor art. first up is >little symphony<, an epic space opera that takes it cues from early 90s techno and mixes it up with post-modern grooves and beats. the wide and open spaces are filled with some very hymnal string patterns that are given a final treatment with a reverbed and high-pitched vocal sample. contrast that with the rather jittery beat and a subbass as deep as the frequencies will go and you got yourself a substantially clear bit of techno that is best imagined when it is dark and only some beams of air tell you where you are. channel x do not produce, they direct and all of the sounds are their actors! on the flip things get more light-hearted and set for the daylight hours as well. >steamboat willie< is a heavily sample-orientated swinging piece of jack. the rhythm guitar lead the way on top of a clap-based loop that sets the basis for some very jazzy interpretations along the way. clarinets, trumpets, percussions, brass, effects and even some talking vocal samples are all allowed to join in this hedonistic big band that is at play. this is one for the sunshine, this is one for the smiles on the faces, this is one to feel instantly good about yourself and everything around you. two very different tracks on this ep, but both equally stand out for themselves

onno is a highly dosed dancing pill, pop one and your rubber legs turn into those of fred astaire. his last release already proved that he knows how to make you put yo hands up in da air! now, heres his latest little treat >hablando loco ep< upon you number 048. the title track opens with some sweet vocals and then drills into your a1 memory banks with the spanish monolog from el commandante. on b2 hes quite content with the few words : >i like that beat<. but onno likes the repetetive use of vocals like a fitness trainer trying to squeeze that last drop of sweat out of you. gavin herlihy, who some of you know from cocoon, takes a subtler approach to the track with his remix that writhes in the scented oils that is house-deepness.

the good the bad the ugly the evil is a full on and brandnew 4 track ep from our cologne artist roland m. dill. roland has worked here with a stronger live-set up resulting in tracks more organic. developing from within rather than being developed, the tracks seem to have a stronger hypnotic edge to them. according to the titels the track all show diffferents characteristic. starting with the evil this track is not very obvious but works very much by itself, whereas the good is a perfect intermezzo for djs who really build up their sets with a lot of skill. the ugly is a mental track... it has stunts, it screams, it sees no end... this is mandness on the highest level and also the bad is written in this veain.

for the first album ever being released on ki we invited biodub, a producer/dj from the north of germany, who impressed us with his fusion of dub, techno, electronica and is a musician throughout. bringing in his experience as the drummer of instrumental band noetics and based on a minimalistic foundation, his tracks are playful in a microscopically way. in between deep bass lines and characteristic dub chords, various sounds coming from field recording sessions and sometimes also acoustic instruments, making this piece of music extremely warm and alive. biodub tries to transform visual impressions into his music. he finds most of these impressions in nature but sometimes also in machines or buildings in connection with their environment. the album is equally comfortable on the dance floor as in the living room. but you would rather enjoy his music on an open field in the nature than on your couch. the album will be released as a full 2 x12 inch lp, and cd in folded hardcover with photography, graphic and layout coming from ki s amélie kai and since it leaves so much space for interpretation, there will be a 12 inch-single with remixes of stereociti and koi.

gerd is delivering at the moment! after releases on clone royal oak, philpot, a big re-issue on rejected, great remixes on 4lux and delusions of grandeur its time for him to release on his own 4lux label! a massive chicago influenced track called h.o.u.s.e. featuring the voice of l.b. bad, the prince of dance music. this track was originally penned in 1994 when gerd had elbee over to tour the benelux. the track was released on an obscure limited edition white label only back then, but here a new rework of these old recordings. 2011 sees the track remixed by gerd himself and he takes the tune into rough & uncompromising analogue territory with filthy synth bassline and relentless tr808 action. seriously good track!! jakob korn, arttu and neville watson are on remix duty and deliver some fresh remix that complete this record. recommended!

here comes the eighth release in the line, pressure cooked by christian wunsch. three slices of fine modern techno, but with strong roots on tradition. buried mistakes opens fire with clean drum programming and punchy beats. spacey arpeggios and subtle drones are the makings of this movie. on the flip side, complete surrender uses similar rhythm coordinates, clean percussion sounds programmed with extreme taste, constantly evolving until the strings come in, creating a sci-fi futuristic mood, perfect for techno travellers. inevitable war is the last piece slower tempo, intelligent drone work out, dark atmospheres lying on a single kick, growing to make a complex beat as the minutes go on. they call it deep techno out there. a departure from the hard edged sounds on behalf of a mental way of understanding techno.

tuccillo is a rare producer as he lives and works in ibiza all year round rather than flies in for the summer. the white island is without doubt the most overused and abused place on earth for dance music promotion, but beneath the glam superficial surface a real scene of native island talent is emerging. so when it came to making an ep for 2020vision we pushed the artist as far as we felt he could go, to explore new untried directions and show his diversity. tuccillo showed his true spirit and worked though a few knockbacks from our a/r team until we were happy we had the best ep possible at this moment

pattern select aka milton jackson and show-b have gone well and truly back to the raw on this, their first collaborative work together and debut ep for delusions of grandeur. both producers have been busy on some top quality projects just recently with milton jackson remixing recloose for planet e and show b producing for robert owens on compost. the pair met at a party in munich, promptly fell in love, and soon enough pattern select was born. kicking off tale of the tape sees the pair go deep n dark on this low-slung groove where demonic laughter rides the driving hats and insesant crashes until the filtering arpeggiated synth line joins the fun. tale of the dub gives us a stripped back, dub-infused version which goes a little lighter on the craziness of the first version but without losing any of the deep, hypnotic funk.

the -makeovers- project is a compilation of some of claudes best re-twists, some of which are so far removed they can almost be considered original works. this special edition vinyl includes one of the most sought after remixes, -warpaint- originally by pocket 808 in australia, vonstroke turned this into a late night anthem in 2007. played by techno djs, dubstep djs, and everyone in between this track was never cut to vinyl until now. on the flip side claude remixed the nublu orchestra out of new york. he was never completely happy with the original version of the remix and hes gone back and re-made it into a very special piece of music including a new vocal sample from his wife aundy who also did the vocal effects in whos afraid of detroit? this collection was put together with the theme that a remix can be an inspiring starting point for an entirely new piece of music. these are two of the deeper and darker remixes but we think you agree they are also very special.

remerc is no new face to the scene. he has been active for quite some time in the german techno scene and has recently remixed butchs track >muskatnuss< on the trapez ltd 100 anniversary compilation. he had his breakthrough in 2010 with the track >tiny calf< which ended up on the cocoon compilation >party animals< mixed by marco carola and nick curly. remerc opens his release with >ruhewolf<, a restless funkedelic rocker with a beat that juggles elements in a loose and totally cool way. the track is spiced up with elements of surreal bliss and could go on forever were there not the limitations of the vinyl. on the flipside we find an hanne & lore remix that tightens and fattens up the beat and pimps up the basslines. adding some twisted sounds ... making it a clubber par excellence. >just a bards tale< is a unique remerc track and stands out from all the productions he has done so far. here new wave coloured edgy vocals meet a post-detroit string-chord arrangement. sounds adventurous and daring? well it is to some degree... but recall >no more words< by carl craig from 1991 but executed in a dead modern way.
