Yes, its marvellous to see that journey from the spring to the sea, that spark of inspiration in an artists eye as it traverses its way to a beautifully packaged piece of 180g vinyl ... but sometimes, its also nice to remember why we started a label in the first place and to visit that dusty corner of the studio where synths, patch cables and spring reverbs lie in wait, taunting us go beyond that perfect 3am comfort zone of the 8 bar loop, hazy red/orange lights and aromatic combustibles. In order words, heres what we did last summer ... two new IFEEL Studio tracks to stimulate your solar sensibilities, guest starring (via the wonders of Skype) Richard Hawleys Band, a reclusive Mittle European Synthesist and (lest we forget) his eccentric and slightly mad octogenarian lawyer.
‘Morgengruss III’ is a re-imagination of the Popul Vuh recording ‘Morgengruss II’ from the Werner Herzog film ‘Aguirre, the Wrath of God’, featuring that aforementioned Skype session with our lovely friends from Yellow Arch in Sheffield. Although, you could forget all of that, dub it over the opening campfire scene from ‘Jaws’ and let it soundtrack your own tripped out summer nostalgia.
Inhabiting (slightly) similar territory to IFEEL Studio 001 ‘The Coptic Sun’, second track ‘Watching Stars over the Rubicon Beltway’ is the peyote infused 4am companion to ‘Morgengruss’....... the heat of the day has finally subsided and you’re on top of Angels Flight, looking down on the lights of the city, joining the dots, gazing at the stars and believing, truly believing (if only for a fleeting moment), that anything and everything is possible.
And now........back to the sand, patch cables and the winter....oh and the ever progressing IFEEL studio album – coming soon to a conspiracy theory near you.
