upwellings is vincent raude, a professor of modern art at the academy of brest who has been releasing dub and reggae music since 1996 and has written music for contemporary dance and theater. he created his dub project lower groundz in 2004 where he experimented with reggae and in 2008 started his dub techno project upwellings under which he realized several 1s. his music was supported and charted by people like cio d or, laurent garnier, alexkid and more. upwellings music shows a great deal of recording knowledge and love for the details of electronic music. his a-side track zu zurich has a classic dub techno surface but we believe the skillful complexity on many levels will have us listen to this track many many times. there are things to discoverin >zurich< one might say. so it is no surprise that the flip side track >lower ground< shows more reggae influences which he uses in more abstract ways, employing vocal splinters he masterfully embeds in his recording.

as a precursor to kabale und liebes debut album, soweso records releases the sammy hoboken ep in april as a teaser of whats to come. almost 20 years ago, liron van daalen was inspired to become a dj after his cousin explained that the mixtapes liron adored were created by one person seamlessly mixing one record into another. that revelation set off a chain of events that has seen him adopt the alias kabale und liebe and rise up to become one of hollands most exciting and reputable electronic music artists.

after his highly acclaimed remix of phil kierans >empty vessels< one of the most prolific and inventive producers in the current electronic music scene returns to electric deluxe: gary beck with an ep of his own, >egoist ep<. created sometime last year during a dark and stormy night in glasgow, the track with the promising title >egoist< was at first about to be forgotten. at some point >egoist< ended up in speedy j<s hands, who immediately decided to play it, >egoist< proved its name, ripping apart every dance floor every time it got dropped.

end of level boss is a joint project from cyclonix and tusk wax celebrating the world of video game tech-nostalgia through electronic music. the label follows up its debut ganondorf ep, with the scorpion ep, named after the resurrected ninja from mortal kombat, who is the games greatest anti-hero, with the battle cry -vengeance will be mine-. the scorpion ep features tracks by si murray (of deep space orchestra) under his mogadishu young team persona, label boss cyclonix, and producers robert s and nant rouge.

techno-legends oliver bondzio and ramon zenker aka hardfloor are back in style this season! with their beloved machine music that is free from seasonal flares, and artificial flavours. hardfloor are still true to the core of their 303 platine circuit boards. electronic music production is nothing less than a bare necessity to these pioneers of the acid groove. hailed and namedropped by many a young producer’s today, revamped or sampled... acid lines emerge anew in quite a few tracks. but when hardfloor put acid in their tank - it is sooo much more and way bigger than a marketable gimmick or the fuel to an otherwise exchangeable battery of loops. it is the motor, the lifeline and the heartbeat to a whole organism offering a whole world of expression and – first and foremost - emotions!

his debut album *face to face* is deliriously deep and melancholic, rhythmically complex and gives a fragile new voice to techno. across the eleven original tracks, phillippe quenum exudes a graceful temperance creating tracks that flutter and take flight (indulge in synth voices of *children of the sun*) as well as rattle the bass bins (sample the raw energy of *basic solution* and delicate power of *ritual*). both sparse and insightful (*my people*) as well as intricate and anthemic (*never loose my soul*), quenums delivery is always quirky and slightly surprising and *face to face* is a curious analysis into this honest musical soul.

subtext presents the debut album from the london based american electronic musician eric holm. the release brings together a collection of recordings produced on the arctic island of andøya, an outpost 300 kilometers north of the arctic circle.

hommage this is already the third release for our little baby s p i e l and as we are on a constant search for the more leftfield and not so deep house esque dance music it was a very happy surprise to find an amazing demo in our mail box by the swiss indie dance/ electronic duo mercury. the bern based act already made a name for themselves by releasing on the great gomma label and by doing remix work and collaborations with people like robert owens, byron stingily, tom trago,munk and two door cinema club. these three new tracks are a well crafted mix of electro, disco, house and deep techno.

the hamburg based hannes rasmus released a record in 2013 called *analog ist besser* on gold pandas precious label notown which also featured luke abbott from border community. this put him on the map for minimal electronic melodic music with a lot of tastemakers and friends of melodic techno. his ep on traum *musik für fünf maschinen* refers to the equipment he used to write the music… the title of the tracks however refer to swimming pools.

touchin bass takes a different turn this time by introducing you to newcomers mkfn, a live production project formed in 2012 by babar raza (us), ovais hassan (uk) and fahad ahmad (canada). over the course of the year they have designed a system that allows them to create music across borders that has been defined as experimental, dark and gritty. the collective integrates each members extensive musical background gained from working across multiple genres. this unique combination invites distinctive sounds into the studio forming the foundation for mkfns characteristic sound.

the goal with supernova was to look back to the disco era but with a synth heavy and altogether more cosmic twist. alex is a big fun of modern russian classical music composing style. also he was inspired by early english progressive scene (yes, elo etc). this is why u-kas melodic lines are long and not so straight sometimes. and oleg is musically far from academic school and prefers zappa, early german electronic and psychedelic krautrock etc.

luaka bop will release william onyeabor - what?!, for which the label partnered with moog to commission remixes and covers of the remarkably elusive african electronic artist william onyeabor, on 2lp vinyl for record store day, april 19. the collection features reworkings of world psychedelic classics 5: who is william onyeabor?, one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2013. in the absence of participation from onyeabor, who long ago turned his back on music, luaka bop continues to engage other artists to create work, inspired by onyeabor, in various mediums. william onyeabor - what?! opens with hot chips cover of the onyeabor landmark *atomic bomb* and also includes jd twitchs (optimo) cover of *why go to war?*.

jerome lol steps out of the shadow from defunct supergroup lol boys with his first solo release the deleted/fool ep on fof music. no stranger to electronic music he was named faders top djs to watch in 2013 and spent the better part of the year touring with baths, juan atkins and anthony shakir.

fina records marks its fifteenth release with borrowed indentitys *bang bang boogie*, a four-track single of rugged house and disco grooves. romanian born now germany based borrowed identity has been releasing gradually creeping out his electronic compositions since late 2011, releasing through reputable imprints such as supplement facts, pets recordings and quintessentials to name a few. picking up support along the way from leading names such as mike huckaby, move d, brawther and delano smith.

strut teams up once again with rodion rosça, romanias rejuvenated electronic music pioneer, to make available an intriguing lost film soundtrack for the first time anywhere. inspired by early 80s star wars mania‚ victor antonescu had first created *misuinea spatiala delta (delta space mission)* as a domestic animated tv series in 1983. despite recording a 15-minute prototype score, rodions music was tragically shelved at a late stage, remaining an unreleased oddity in his archive until now.

richard burkinshaw & james rial aka audiojacks standing in electronic music speaks for itself, the pair have been heavily involved since around 2006 and have made quite the impact with releases for 2020 vision, leftroom, get physical and of course their own gruuv label where they return to here.

dehnert has continued to steer his fachwerk label through the techno undergrowth and it has now amassed more than 25 releases in all. at the heart of the labels output has been dehnerts own increasingly experimental techno and this new album is testament to the producers continued exploration of the form. where framework was, in the words of mike himself, focussed on the heavy techno form, this album explores broken bass, swinging house and beatless electronic experimentalism amongst other things. i love to release music. i still enjoy the album writing process very much, says mike, before adding, i have noticed that sometimes the succe ss of a track depends on the light at club, which is why the album is called lichtbedingt, meaning depends on light! the album starts off with a suitably sombre intro that features cold, slowly shifting synths.

this time around is the long awaited follow-up to the succesful probe album by roswell return. the original is a mesmerizing piece of minimal electronic music, heavily inspired by composer steve reich. more than 10 minutes of pure synth bliss. on the b-side syncom data take it into deep techno territory with a shuffling and ridiculously low-end remix thats both warm and unsettling at the same time. deep basslines keep pushing everything forward, while the constantly rising church-like organ brings a nervous mayhem quality to it.
