two berlin underdogs and a detroit ravemaster. a driving force in the very early frankfurt electronics since the late 80s, to hardcore acid in brooklyn in the early 90s, producing legends as carlos peron among many others along his way, adsx aka andre fischer might sound new to many but has been an active part of the underground electronic movement for the last 30 years. benji df aka hanoben is no newbie to the scene either and might have soundtracked your night if you were to be found at clubs like tresor or snax in the late 90s. together they recorded an ode to aural sex, its acid counterpart, and a genius sketch of a club banger. when label honcho capablanca heard the latter had little doubts about commissioning an extended mix to motor city s special forces gen. sharif laffrey aka thee activator, who needs little introduction to the discerning raver ears as the man behind instant acid classics turn it up and always, among others. after countless studio days and nights and endless versions (we stopped counting at 56th) sharif delivers what is possibly his best work to date, an unstoppable 12 minute dancefloor annihilator. to wrap such special release we asked legend alan oldham aka ur s minister of information aka dj t-1000, (also responsible for label designs for transmat, djax, submerge, pure sonik and a long etcetera) to create one of his classic artworks. capablanca deconstructs his center pieces for the fully printed sleeve, and everybody s.c.r.e.a.m.

out 2 is a project from jeremy campbell and r. zanzibar, who have previously worked together on albums for l.i.e.s. and lectric sands under different aliases. they sound right at home on emotional response, channeling the influence of 1980s new york dancefloor hybridization into six original tracks and their counterpart dub versions. its an impeccable tribute to the forefathers of new / no / minimal wave with the right kind of funk rubbed in the groove and ample space in the mix for all the live dubbing the style demands. moving is a surefire death disco party starter, dancing hovers in a beyond the grave island boogie reverie and some airs red there heads out into exotically enhanced territory without losing that nyc grit. it s a marvelous record, with the dub versions adding new dimensions to the music rather than simply repeating the same tricks sans vocals.

in late 2017, thomas gandey and danny mclewin - known from the popular disco-influenced electronic music collective psychemagik - emerged from their studio in bordeaux, france, claiming to have produced an extended musical arrangement, both entitled, and containing the sounds of, the shakuhachi. furthermore, they insisted, for the purposes of this production, and a further album of related arrangements to be released subsequently in conjunction with the successful german record label kompakt, they should be referred to henceforth as ghost vision. shortly thereafter, the audio recordings described by gandey and mclewin came into the possession of noted los angeles degenerate, dj and nymphomaniac citation needed dirty dave, who was quick to relay the hallucinatory qualities of the duo’s productions to fellow dj and trusted hallucinogenic expert paramida, of esteemed german musical imprint love on the rocks. paramida, recognising the innate quality of the sounds presented to her, decided that such recordings warranted immediate release through her audio distribution channel, and not without remixes. quite without thinking of the origins of the instrument which had given the recording its particular sonic distinguishment, and of course, its title, she enlisted the help of two musicians named alex - one from tokyo, and one from kyoto. both alex from tokyo - teaming up with his colleagues isao kumano & kenichi takagi as tokyo black star, known for their prior releases on popular german label innervisions - and his counterpart, alex from kyoto, better known as al kassian, rising tamagotchi on paramidas love on the rocks imprint, and his own label, planet sundae - turned in striking reinterpretations of gandey and mclewin’s composition.

the past few years have seen berlins frag maddin release material on waze & odysseys w&o street tracks, rough recordings and egg londons what came first as well as offering up a remix on roog & dennis quins ep for madhouse where her returns to here for a full ep featuring remixes from fellow berlin based acts black loops and kevin over. taking the lead on the package is the zauberflo&#776,te with its skippy hi-hats, hooky organ licks, hypnotic rhodes melodies and vocal cuts all further fuelled by a snaking sub-bass groove to create a slice of authentic house for one of the leading labels of the genre. black loops turns in a remix of the zauberflo&#776,te next, stripping things back to a deeper, more refined feel with spiraling, filtered elements of the original wandering around swinging 909 drums to create a groove-drive counterpart to the original. focus opens the latter half of the package, the second original from frag maddin which employs chugging square wave bass tones and dynamically evolving drums alongside tension building strings and choppy stabs before keving over closes the package with his gritty take on focus, featuring crunchy drums, dusty chords and cleverly arranged string and key samples.

the first full artist ep of 2018 is one by a new artist for heist, but a familiar name for any modern day house aficionado: adryiano. after taking 2016 off, he came back guns blazing in 2017, releasing 5 solo eps in 1 year on labels like shall not fade and baka gaijin. his me and you and her ep for heist showcases his contemporary view on classic house and acid, and is an experiment into how much distortion a track can actually handle when youve got a killer sample hook. me and you and her is about as classic as a house track can be and moves in similar fashion as his post-2013 hit ‘on my side. its got a sweet and repetitive vocal loop, some semi-grainy but definitely groovy percussion and a deceptively simple piano hook. add some filtering and youve got a lovely warm house song that can go on forever. the a2 move it, move it moves straight into old-school chicago territory, with a raw af acid bassline. chicago bred jamie 3:26, now residing in its dutch counterpart rotterdam, gives the track a nice old school twist. hes going full 707 on the percussion and has casually added an amazing synth hook to give the remix a true vibe of its own. the ep closes off with fashion country girl: adryianos dystopian view of a world where dolly parton gets mangled through an overdrive, then gets distorted, crushed, mangled, deleted, re-added in 8 bit and then crushed some more. the result is an uptempo roller with more than enough grit, and just enough tongue-in-cheek to make everyone smile a little bit more. yours sincerely, maarten & lars.

natasha kitty katt returns with a new, two-tracker 12inch for masterworks music. the multi-talented mistress of disco has been wreaking havoc on dance floors all over the place with her infectious sets at liverpool disco festival, the southport weekender and this year s suncebeat in tisno, croatia. not to mention having recently solidified her own imprint, ghetto disco records, she s also been flexing her talents in the studio with recent releases on hot digits, tribe uk and now, masterworks music. the disco vibrations ep comes with two sides of pure dancefloor heat with 24 hour sesh up to bat first. co-produced by krane, this high tempo burner features a relentless, pumping bass groove and loads of those quintessential disco-strings. jubilant vocal chops chant, screech and howl for the party to continue all night and day while filtered piano riffs keep the disco fires burning bright. flipping over we get after the dance, which offers a similar approach to it s a-side counterpart. taking on a deeper, sub bassline, things get even groovier once layers of sampled vibes and cosmic synths chirp and swoop all throughout the tracks six minute run time.

for their 12th label anniversary, jazz & milk have decided to launch a new series called “twelve inch jams” in order to celebrate vinyl culture and the legendary 12&#8243,,, format! jams002 sounds the bell for the second round of the series including a 10 years re-issue of the classic sam irl cut “you don’t feel enough”. originally released as a b1 tune on his “african dance ep” debut on pulver records in 2007, this jazzy house gem found its way into the record bags of many influential djs over the years. from session victim, glenn astro, max graef to hodini… the record never disappeared in club sets but certainly from discogs a good while ago. so it was about time to give the tune a second life and finally press it on the format it deserves - a whole 12&#8243,,, side. the german production duo session victim are well-known fans of the track describing it as their secret weapon playing it in quite many dj sets for years, including their 2015 appearance for mixmag’s dj lab. hence, it is a great pleasure that session victim contributed a remix to the new release. their absolutely elegant and groove-driven version with a charming 90’s touch to it makes a brillant counterpart to the original with its jazzy piano-, drum- and double bass samples leading to an epic synth break that regularly causes ecstatic moments on the dancefloor.

unto the sons of the royal amphibians were given by lot, throughout their families and out of the tribe of zebulun, twelve records. the fifth ep in the treisar series sees moscoman deliver a new piece of dancefloor dazzle with the royal amphibian international ep. just across the nile kicks off down in the sluggish ends of the club. flamboyant claps and hypnotizing accordion stabs hint at brighter climates but the darkness of the bass threatens from beneath. express way explores broken beats before resolving into a 4x4 drive stocked with balearic flair and ominous vocal chops, while its dub counterpart brings the ep to a melodic close with an unhurried, glistening rework.

laura jones unveiled her new label sensoramic in may with sam and karousel cutting the opening tape in appropriate style. for the second release laura delivers her first ep since 2014. after taking time out to experiment in the studio and refine her style, the why question marks an evolution in the uk producer s output delivering two incendiary underground club cuts ably remixed by trevino and u-more. two veterans working under aliases, trevino is of course better known as legendary drum n bass producer marcus intalex who has more recently found a home for his 4/4 output on klockworks, the nothing special and his own label, birdie. u-more is italian veteran and berliner, ivan iacobucci, fresh from releasing on apollonia and a slew of underground minimalist labels who delivers a late night acid laden afterhours workout to compliment trevino s big room counterpart.

on the main side, the title track opens up in a bass-heavy, thumping tempo mode that evolves into a magnificent mixture of insane synth samples. the result is so refreshing and upbeat that you cannot get enough of it! happy monday completes the sequence on the side: the track provides an ultra-rhythmic counterpart with layers of textured presets and a voice sample that strikes out!

the organ grinder mints his new record label with a bulked up reissue of a gem from his back catalogue that will make djs - and dancers - very happy. far from throwaway, this is music rooted in the 90s us garage sound of kerri chandler, masters at work and early todd edwards, with the intensity of true deep house and the light rhythmic touch of ukg. obsession originally came out almost 5 years ago, but there s simplicity in its skittering rhythm and a mantra of rising minor-note synth hits that keep it burning into the dancefloor. x rated hits like its inverted counterpart, with a more heavily weighted drum groove and garage stabs that spiral down your spine. physicality finishes the ep with cunningly-sampled soul music, sung notes of passion belted out over a tense background of keys and rhodes chords, weaving an atmosphere that only comes out of expertly woven harmony

london-based producer guy andrews is renowned for creating textural electronic music, combining influences from post-rock, techno, ambient and afrobeat. after releasing on hemlock, hotflush and pennyroyal, scoring for photographer nadav kander, and remixing massive attacks robert del naja, he makes his houndstooth debut with in autumn arm’. on the title track, a simple guitar melody falls melancholically over a bed of synth loops and string ensemble, while snares and thundering drums meld with distortion to heighten the tension. let your shadow decide is the a-sides darker, downbeat counterpart, opening with tremolo strings and a weighty bass-line, while emphatic drums build toward the tracks climax. although seemingly disparate, guys use of wall-of-sound noise and softer strings is skilfully mixed, carried forward by the stark guitar lead.

33-10-3402, also known as serbian-born artist/producer nenad markovic, returns to the esp institute for the fourth and final release in his opium den and whorehouse inspired mecanica series. metamorfoze is a psychedelic melting pot which can best be described as a train commute to a distant planet—our senses confronted left, right and center by unfamiliarities. its counterpart on side b entitled t bov boasts a pseudo tribal rhythm, yet its post-apocalyptic soundscaping takes us anywhere but the expected. at this point nenad has managed to whirl our imagination into a state of confusion so deep that were simply at a loss for words. its in these moments where we at the esp institute are most proud, with the birth of something absolutely new. bravo nenad, bravo.

gallic cynosure agoria debuts on the hotflush roster with helice – a compelling, propelling record that envelopes and encompasses. blending an ambience of eerie sci-fi over suspense-laden peaks and troughs, it goes after body and mind in equal measure. its b-side counterpart is make it real, a jacking house number cut through with a classic rhodes bounce. the latent garage disposition is brought to the fore by ess, whose remix nods to the east coast glory days of yore.

gih is back with a sophisticated dub-tech v/a ep. contributing artists are well known activists of the dub techno scene: g.r.i.t., david hausdorf, dubatech/fatih tuter and gblanco, who all delivered their part to the next stop in the label s underlying journey: while humanity is enjoying the benefits of exploiting its clone-counterpart, there is a rising conscience amongst clones against this slavery-like abuse. first acts of open resistance are showing that things will change soon....a -warning- sign for the future.

we hope you will permit us the indulgence of deviating slightly from our globe trotting explorations on this release as we pay homage to the sun. highlife on holiday, if you will. stepping away from the edits, auntie flo delivers a new original track. sun ritual ii takes things up a notch from its earlier counterpart (released on kompakt), banging dare-we-say-it berghain techno gives way to warm synth-laden euphoria. on the flip, miajica, one third of alma negra who you may recall from highlife2. here he serves up a delightfully familiar summer treat, the original being an end of the night, highlife highlight, particularly at our annual tribute to the sun event. we are sure you will agree that both sides are rock solid and primed for the summer!

among many other things saralunden proves to be a dismal disco star! on this ep she sounds like a stripped down and darker counterpart of sally shapiro, presenting moody and sexy music which is in some ways similar to the italo influenced stuff chromatics is doing and with the same twisted erotic vibe of pulp. this is dirty disco and we like to dance to it.

modern primitivism, the fifteenth release on get the curse music comes from the label head clement meyer. a 3-track 12 inch that showcases a new, albeit logical, direction for the producer, now blending electronic body music, industrial, downbeat and 70s electronics in its own raw, moody & distinctive style. as a counterpart to the left-field vibe on the ep, lumigraphs remix (opal tapes, mister saturday night) is a techno bomb ready to serve the dancefloor.

with mgf022 we open the sound-universe with and for ilia ferrein from novosibirsk, russia. with meeting sea & hover, ferrein creates a perfect, clear, dreamy and reduced as well as an euphoric dubsound atmoshpere, with little moments full of magic melodies. the proper counterpart and highlight remix on the b-site is presented by doyen robag wruhme. there is no further introduction needed, we think...his remix of meeting sea includes his typically energetic, nearly hypnotic sound and it grooves as always keeping the focus on the original track at the same time.
