SPLIT 02 EP
starke split ep on eshu, mit tollem micro house tracks
eshu, the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm, joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album, senang, and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side, uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip, jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all, the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.
about this release *first 10 tracks only come with the limited edition nijmegen s eshu welcomes co-founder ivano tetelepta for his first solo release on the label. it is also the imprint s first full length, but tetelepta s second album after the hypnotic drum workout that was true colours, his debut on fear of flying in 2012. it comes as a double vinyl release with the first disc being limited, and finds the producer casting himself free from the dance floor and serving up a beautifully atmospheric soundtrack that would be a perfect companion for a nature documentary. when making eps and 12-s, tetelepta s smooth and infectious drums are always front and centre in his work, whether solo or as producing with label mates under the eshu alias.

eshu records hits release number ten with a new ep from the in-house production collective made up of jocelyn abell, ivano tetelepta and daniel lekatompessy. fraktur features six tracks of stripped back house and techno that are all atmospheric and heady. opener winter track is a smooth and rolling dub techno number that is grainy and economical yet hugely absorbing thanks to its circling synth details and woody drums. creating moods is even more expansive and spacious, with gently swirling pads enveloping a soft, broken rubber kick drum. the title track is another expertly distilled, dry and heady groove with its frayed edges and warm analogue feel, then hello really flips the script with over driven jeff mills kicks and intergalactic synths bring a spooky sci-fi feel to proceedings. yorubaland is then a cosmic ambient interlude with fax tones bleeping and blipping as lazy pads smear out in the background and last of all core comes on strong with more quick and slick intergalactic techno carrying you off to some distant planet. this is another faultless ep from this fine dutch collective. pressed on 180 grams vinyl.
eshu records returns with another various artists ep. 4 tracks by aepiel, hakimonu, albert van abbe & counterpart, ranging from ambient to more straight forward techno. limited to 450 copies, all handnumbered.
eshu welcomes jocelyn next up on their label.
SPLIT 01 EP
opener equilibrium two from buitendijk is a perfectly streamlined and serene bit of spaced out, hypnotic techno. gentle synth pulses roam about the airwaves, left and right, up and down, as ethereal pads glow behind. it s heady dancing music, whilst liem s contact is also perfectly aimed at both head and heel. it is full of lick synth pulses that bubble and boil as watery droplets and ticking hits also colour the most subliminal groove. closer this is all you need is a more textured, frazzled cut with frosty lines and rickety pads working you into a trance. rich drums and clever bass filtration add dynamics and tension and so like everything else here the end result is hugely captivating.
BAD SIGNAL EP
after a short period of contemplation eshu records is back with fresh beats from their kindred spirits: sys, they return to their native record label with another quality release from nijmegen nl. analog, deep and distorted cuts to be found in this package, warehouse and space material delivered on 180 gram vinyl!
RAMAYANA CHANT EP
debut by dutch new techno act j&l including a great remix by abdulla rashim.
excellent hypnotic and energetic millsian techno cuts by eshu!
MONOCLE EP (NORMAN NODGE REMIX)
sys are three nijmegen based producers with different backgrounds, but with the same great view on music, delivering underground techno/dub with great sounddesign, slow tension building drum-patterns and off-beat rhythms. nocturnal is a deep pulsating rhythm with some nice dubbed out chord elements building slowly until the drumbreak hits and lifts the track to a higher level.monocle is about a steady irresistable groove instead of building to a climax. loose yourself in its simplicity and get sucked in by the slick sounddesign happening in the background.on the flip norman nodge delivers a great acidic remix perfect for warm up sets, peaktime dancefloor action or early morning moments.nice one again on eshu!
TIMELESS EP (ECHOLOGIST REMIX)
the eshu people return on their own imprint with the timeless ep, a trippy and funky techno release for the after hours. the a-side gives us mm, a 10 minute long funk experience full of summery vibes. a slowbuilding beat gently moves on while beautiful chords start to grow and evolve out of nothing. the echologist dubí by brendon moeller takes the original and adds some thought out drumpatterns, lush chord stabs and tight percussion.timeless is all about getting in the right mood. all it takes is a steady beat, some sharp hats and a couple of hypnotic layered tones and chords to do the work, this is one is for the afterhours
eshu records returns, after a succesful first release, with a 4 track ep that shows the many sides of the techno spectrum eshu records admires. an excellent selection with tracks from mattias fridell, tomas rubeck, myles serge and imugem orihasam. a nice list of talented up and coming producers from all over the globe (sweden, detroit, uk, germany). smoking techno tracks with influences from detroit techno, duuby berlin sounds and more straight forward club bangers. worth the check!!
