ever-impressing uk talent james dexter makes a return to bondage-music this december as he drops his latest three track ep lets go back. 2018 has been a substantial year for london based dj and producer james dexter, with appearances at the likes of fabric (london), claire (amsterdam) and sash (sydney) and releases on little helpers, gruuv, deeperfect and his own inermu imprint in the past 12 months alone. with the new year in sight, here we find three new fresh productions in the form of his lets go back ep, marking a return to bondage music in the process following his recent remix of frinks sofisticate on the imprint. title cut lets go back opens proceedings as dexter reveals an up-front, bumping cut armed with crunchy drum licks, infectious vocal samples and rich, airy chords, before simple things utlises further rich and soulful vocals alongside crisp skipping hats and resonant kicks to guide the production through seven minutes of groove driven house music. last up, dexters roll through pairs refined, stripped back organic percussion arrangements with wandering synth lines and vocal coos to wrap up the ep in fine fashion.

bondage music label-founders pornbugs return to the imprint this september with their ‘pacho’ ep, backed with remixes from pablo bolivar and phillipp gonzales. leipzig/berlin based duo pornbugs make a welcome return to their own label here with two new original cuts, ‘pacho’ opens the package with stripped-back drums, a bulbous bass line and choppy piano chords running alongside a bubbling arpeggio lead and tension building stab sequences. pablo bolivar’s rawmake of pacho follows, edging things into deeper territory with dropped tempo dusty drums, airy pads and an amalgamation of wandering, resonant synth lines. the second half of the release, pencilled for release as vinyl only features another original from pornbugs, entitled ’larica’ and featuring a similar aesthetic to the lead with fluttering dubby chords, a refined drum groove and unfolding atmospherics carrying the groove before label regular phillipp gonzales turns in his remix to complete the package, taking things in a more raw direction with heavily swung crunchy drums, pulsating filtered stabs and billowing vocal murmurs.

conforce returns under his silent harbour guise this august with the ‘noctiluca’ mini lp, a six track collection set for release via copenhagen’s echocord. dutch producer boris bunnik has been releasing material under various guises over the past two decades such as conforce, versalife, hexagon, vernon felicity and of course silent harbour which he revisits here following 2015’s ‘hinterland’ on deep sound channel and the self-tilted inauguration of the project in 2012 on echocord. the beatless drones of ‘riparian’ open the package, perfectly setting the tone with murky bell like chimes, rumbling subs and splashes of white noise before title-track ‘noctiluca’ picks up the pace, tipping the focus over to bubbling dub echoes, glitched out, minute percussion and a sturdy muted kick to keep things driving. ‘dwelling’ is up next, featuring expansive, washed out synth textures, cavernous bass tones and modulating percussion throughout. leading on the b-side of the release is ‘peridinum’, employing classic dub techno tropes with an amalgamation of choppy stab sequences dynamically evolving over off-beat hats and a thunderous kick. ‘fusiformis’ strips things rhythmically whilst keeping the bubbling delays and expansive reverbs at it’s core before closing track ‘pelagia’ brings bright, resonant synth lines, delayed percussive hits and tension building synth bass into the limelight.

warsaw based duo private press join rekids special projects this july with four deep techno cuts entitled ‘zero sum ep’. hailing from poland, adam brocki and jan wóycicki make up private press – a project that’s released sought after cuts on labels like technosoul and indigo aera. the duo is also known by the name raw feelings, however many will be familiar with brocki’s newborn jr. alias, which has dropped releases on rhythm section, echovolt, dopeness galore and les yeux orange. ‘miracle man sets the tone with delayed resonant synths accompanied by crunchy and distorted snares before ‘becomes the prime’ opts for a lo-fi sound with filtered synth blips and enigmatic vocal slices. on the flip side ‘tooms’ delivers heavily reverberated horn-like stabs, modulated synth lines and an underpinning bass that rumbles throughout as ‘clan’ offers a fast paced cut with high pitched whistling that echoes alongside a thumping kick drum and organic percussion to bring the package to a close..

echocord’s colour sub-label returns early june with a four- track ep from eindhoven’s albert van abbe in the shape of ‘klangbilder’. dutch techno artist albert van abbe has nearly two decades of experience under his belt in various forms of musical and visual expression, releasing on his own vanabbe imprint, figure jams, semantica and no comment, as well as playing live and djing at hot spots across the globe such as berghain, tresor, dgtl and awakenings festival. ‘klangbilder 1’ leads with a robust rhythmic drive, employing bumpy toms, shuffled hats and lumpy kicks at its core as vacillating synths, tension building drones and menacing pizzicato strings develop throughout. ‘klangbilder 2’ takes things deeper next, retaining the dusty drums sound of the previous cut whilst stirring in airy ethereal pads and choppy, resonant stab sequences. ‘klangbilder 3’ kicks off the b-side with modulating synth whirrs, emotive organ tones and a muted drum tones throughout before ‘klangbilder 4’ closes the package, taking things beatless and cinematic via emotive synth leads, droning subs and expansive echoes.

r-time records releases two tracks from iceland’s sanasol, aka thor and yagya, entitled long lost thoughts - originally appearing on deep thoughts lp via hey babe! in 97. out of all of thors aliases, which includes oz artists, flow machine and thor54, sanasol, his duo project alongside yagya, is arguably the most prolific. on top of appearances on thors own renowned imprint thule records, as sanasol the pair have released on fear of flying, connaisseur superieur and alex azary and pascal f.e.o.s.s hey babe! of which the latter homed the‘deep thoughts album. matt edwards r-time now releases two of the long players finest tracks, following recent revivals of timeless music by sir lord commix and fbk. long lost thoughts begins by utilising filtered chord stabs alongside a thumping bass and sustained strings before the track progresses with ethereal pads combined with resonant bells playing a top line melody. on the flip, in the sky of normality presents shuffled drums with crisp hi-hats and a strong low-end whilst delayed synths pan left and right throughout keeping things atmospheric and mesmerising.

memento s steadfast head-honcho idirss d is back on his own label with -shams-, a maxi-single with two cuts of pure sonic bliss, finely embellished with soul and dedication for his personal d.i.b series. “shams” is an overwhelming dancefloor tune that expands on a flangered sequence, crackling arpeggios, an uplifting galactic pad, shredded male hooks and finally an esoteric slice of a female lyric. “piramide” is a fast technotic ride over an hypnotic tribal chant. a fat saturated bass drum and crispy claps open the way to an highly resonant synthetic lead that spins around itself over and over again, submerging and resurfacing with furious snares and rapid hi-hats. the two sides of the record entirely disclose idriss sharpened club sense and his superb taste for graceful arrangements.

berlin based co-founder of visionquest shaun reeves has gradually carved out his unique take of raw, minimalistic house music over the years via releases on dorian paics raum...musik, one records, his new shantu label alongside tuccillo and of course his own visionquest. here we see him pairing up with canadian duo maher daniel and amir javasoul who together as creatures of habit have been picking up attention from the likes of ricardo villalobos, zip, raresh and apollonia amongst others. here marking the debut of their collaborative creatures of shaun guise the duo offer up their mind over matters ep, the title-track leads and lays down mind bending, modulating percussion and synth swirls alongside bumpy bass grooves and hypnotic atmospherics whilst stirring in a tripped-out spoken word vocal sample to further fuel the psychedelic house feel. blink follows and tips the focus over to resonant subs, stripped-back organic percussion and murky vocal swells, again resulting in something mesmerizing and groove-led before out of orbit reduces things even further to refined shuffled hats, minute rhythmic modulations and snaking bass flutters.

desolats loco dice joins the roster of martinez brothers cuttin headz label this april with slammer, backed with a remix from detroit techno veteran dj t-1000. du&#776,,sseldorfs loco dice has long been one of the most respected figures in contemporary electronic music with releases over the years on leading labels like cocoon, cadenza, ovum and of course his own desolat as well as a heavy touring schedule taking him across the globe year in year out. here though we see dice offering up his new single courtesy of cuttin’ headz, a platform the martinez brothers and associates to deliver high octane, dance floor focused house and techno. the original mix of title track slammer leads with spiralling brass like bass tones, flute licks, shuffled shakers and resonant synth hooks running alongside a bumpy bass line and an amalgamation of heady, processed vocal lines. following is detroits dj t-1000 stepping up on remix duties, stripping back the aesthetic of the original to lay focus on robust rhythms and various vocal refrains from the original whilst chugging bass and tension building atmospherics gradually unfold throughout.

a year on from luigi tozzi and label head dino sabatinis collaborative manticora ep, outis return with a striking, singular solo work from tozzi. ecate ep sees the roman producer bringing three distinct slices of techno, each with its own set of subtleties and the crystal, adept sound design that defines tozzi’s work. spanning the a-side is ecate. this title track is rolling and hypnotic, with muscular, percussive bass. throughout the track, angelic chords come and go, washing the listener in euphoria. alongside, we hear a disorienting melody, grounded by the lightly swung four to the floor kick that gives this track an infectious groove. the flip opens with leto, which immediately defines itself as a club track with an unbroken but evolving set of percussion and a weighty kick. its around this kick that other elements build. we hear long, ringing, resonant string sounds, and a bell like melody morph and unfold as other percussive components come and go. the track falls away into atmospheric eeriness, which perfectly sets the stage for the eps finale. esperedes swung, panning drums give it a disorienting feeling of otherworldliness from the get go. this is before youre greeted by an alien, slightly dubbed out melody and a hanting backing drone that feels like a reference (perhaps in opposition) to the angelic chords of the eps first track. its on this closing track that tozzis delicate, expert sound design best shines through, and really has to be heard to be understood.

sacred summits returns after a two-year hiatus with an album of interpretations of the music of eric satie by acclaimed composer morgan fisher. active for over 50 years morgans career has moved from 60s number one hit wonders love affair, to 70s rocknroll keyboardist in mott the hoople, before finally on to 80s ambient, improvisation and soundtracks, working with the likes of yoko ono, haroumi hosono and dip in the pool. based in japan since the mid-80s, fishers long-standing admiration for erik satie (1866- 1925) led to these inside satie recordings. satie’s unique work as a precursor to artistic movements such as minimalism, surrealism and repetitive music are acknowledged but for long periods he was not given the accolades his music warranted. a strange, eccentric, surreal man, he was never as acclaimed as the established masters, but influenced not only the likes of debussy but also many of the dada artists. on this album morgan played his music freely after just a brief look at the scores. recorded in just three days, it features piano, melodica, synthesisers, and morgans favoured tape delay system. inside satie is one of the first albums i recorded in japan shortly after moving here in 1985. in three days i improvised on several of my favourite satie themes. mostly i played piano as well as the rich, analog-sounding yamaha gs-1 (precursor of the dx-7), and sometimes used long tape delays to build layers of sound. all the pieces were recorded in single takes no overdubs (no time!).

adam beyer s drumcode closed out another hugely successful year in 2017, with a non-stop release schedule showcasing some of the best techno on offer from both the labels roster of artists to some fresh new names popping up on the scene. now in its 21st year, the label announced its drumcode festival later this summer, that will only contribute to solidify their position as the world s no.1 techno label. making his debut on drumcode in 2017 with his track fake featured on the a-sides vol 6 compilation, one of brazil s much loved exports wehbba brings us his first full ep this february with eclipse . a no nonsense 4 track offering, and all thoroughly road tested by adam, they have gained much support from longtime drumcode fans. eclipse, delivers a low end rumble along with a modulating synth line. reigning high throughout the track, is the undeniably catchy and unique synth. leaving this track one to be recognised on dancefloors all over the world. ‘protocol doesn t turn down the pace, straight into a chugging hypnotic drive, this track leaks with attitude, along it s eerie undertones. probably the most acid influenced track of the ep, glasswerk has a futuristic modular synth riff which thunders along a hypnotic bass line which flows nicely into framework to close out the ep. its punchy and powerful kick sits alongside the cleverly crafted synth pattern, taking this track into a dark zone with a groovy element still resonant.

detroit duo ataxia offer up their kodak moment ep via visionquest this march, accompanied by an edit from label co-founders shaun reeves and ryan crosson. eric ricker and ted krisko aka ataxia have been at the forefront of the contemporary house and techno scene for some time, racking up releases on some of the leading labels across the globe such as leftroom, nervous, culprit and play it say it, making the duo one of detroits finest exports in recent years. here we see them making their debut on visionquest, the label of fellow detroit natives ryan crosson, shaun reeves and lee curtiss. vhs leads the package with murky synth swells, resonant synth sweeps and fluttering square wave bass tones at its core as shuffled drums carry the ever-evolving hypnotic groove along. the original mix of kodak moment follows, shifting the focus over to snaking bass lines, mind-bending, modulating synth whirrs and dynamic, choppy percussion throughout. reeves & crossons edit of kodak moment then rounds out the release, stripping things back to ethereal atmospherics and shuffled drums whilst subtly stirring in the original’s hooky bass groove as the interpretation unfolds.

bxl002 is the second release of the artist-run brussels based label bxl. this second release by simon halsberghe features the dark discoïd black tape mass on the a-side. while the title refers to the tape delay echo s used in the production, it s the groove pushed forward by the pulsing bass line and the clap that give it that distinct dark disco vibe. on the b-side machine wailing sounds like an incessant siren. the rest of the elements in the track all push and pull around this hypnotic siren, giving it context and power. the last track, grey over white takes the hypnosis deeper with a deep fizzy bass line, resonant drone and crisp hihats. at the end of the track additional percussive elements puncture the drone to give way to a polyrhythmic work out.

mood to move ep is a six-part musical retrospect into the work of veteran japanese house producer takecha, the little-known artist has been sporadically releasing analogue house on his own gwm imprint since the mid-90s, however trouble maker had only recently discovered his works and were dying to hear more. the music he sent was far too good to remain unheard, so we twisted the little-known maestro’s arm and managed to grab a selection of six unreleased and never before heard cuts for your audio pleasure. created between 1995-2000, these musical gems were left dormant on dat tapes in takechas basement - until now! with classic house being the flavour throughout, the high-quality production and deeply-resonant synth lines of each track leave an imprint that’s hard to forget. if this is your first time hearing takecha you certainly won’t be disappointed., released on 12 inch vinyl , shrinked wrapped

boris bunnik is no stranger in the world of electronic music. he released several albums and ep’s under a variety of monikers since 2007 on labels like delsin, shipwrec, frustrated funk and his own transcendent imprint. fauxpas musik welcomes him for a new project called severnaya.
originally hailing from the island of terschelling, the most northern and remote part of the netherlands he now made a piece of music dedicated to this special place. severnaya means north in russian and refers to the bright frozen landscapes of the northern archipels. boris often plays with the influences and elements of ambient in his music. if we have to believe the man himself, polar skies is his most personal sound trajectory to come from his mind. drum programming is scarce and what remains is a lush and profound listening experience floating on scapes and melodies. we clearly hear his roots and intentions represented in the airy, tranquil sound design of this new album project. things sound spacious, and life is at ease in these melancholic compositions. crispy crackling percussions and icey pads place you in the midst of a resonant arctic landscape. you can hear influences drawn from producers like biosphere, pub, brian eno but we also hear more contemporary influences from modern day film composition but most of all we here boris his own signature. the tracks were composed over a couple of years (2015-2017) in a more contemplative mindset. at some point this selection formed a consistent piece of music and as a result you hear his most personal and fragile works to date. fauxpas musik is proud to release this new project in 2018. written and produced by boris bunnik aka conforce at the pasadenaoceanlab studios special thanks to family, friends and fauxpas musik for their support. this release comes in 180g vinyl and a hot foil stamping on the cover. vinyl tastes better...

julien sandre and mennie return under their jarau guise this january with the saturn system ep, set for release via visionquests special edition sub-label. julien sandre and mennie return under their jarau guise this january with the saturn system ep, set for release via visionquest’s special edition sub-label. france’s julian sandre and italy’s mennie have both individually carved out quite the career over the past decade with the former racking up releases on blindbox, franck roger’s home invasion and e wax amongst others, and the latter holding a residency at tenax club in italy and collaborating togheter on releases for poker flat and housewax of late, 2017 also saw their collaborative debut as jarau which came courtesy of the revered pleasure zone imprint. now returning for their second ep under this new guise the pair join the roster of visionquest special edition with saturn system and taking the lead is le voyage a snaking journey through billowing synth swells, jangling percussive chimes and organic drums before dubhe strips the vibe back to modulating resonant synths, shuffled stripped-back rhythms and lumpy sub bass tones. adrienne opens the flip side with the focus on a swinging drum groove as airy atmospherics ebb and flow throughout. hypnotize then rounds out the package and as the name would suggest relies on subtle nuances to draw you deeper and deeper into the intricately programmed percussion and smoothly blooming synth flourishes.

hemingway s debut ep on cosmic resonance records is a musical memoir. the sounds you’ll hear are drawn from projects created as far back as 2011 and as recently as 2017. the music has evolved over the years, from yacht-funk playfulness to the exploration of cosmic jazz. one constant throughout, though, has been a reverence and love for the dance floor and dance music culture. to bring this broad spectrum of musical creativity together, hemingway enlisted the help of his longtime friend (and now label-mate), chris evans, to weave improvised guitar unicorns (guitarnicorns) throughout. the result is an album that fuses jazz, funk, disco, balearica, pysch-rock and amazonian spirituality into a cosmically resonant vibe.

re-release! black truffle is honoured to present the premier recordings of two recent works by legendary american experimental composer alvin lucier. a friend and contemporary of pioneers like robert ashley, david behrman, gordon mumma, and christian wolff, lucier has been crafting elegant explorations of the behavior of sound in physical space since the 1960s. lucier is perhaps best known for i am sitting in a room (1970), in which he repeatedly re-recorded his own speaking voice being played back into a room until the room’s resonant frequencies entirely obscure the spoken text. beginning in the early 1970s, he has written a remarkable catalogue of instrumental works that focus on phenomena produced by the interference between closely tuned pitches, such as audible beating, often using pure electronic tones produced by oscillators in combination with single instruments.
