soma welcome manchester born - berlin based setaoc mass for his label debut with the “surface for air ep”. a longtime favourite of the soma camp, sam’s high energy techno and creative style has been sought after for some time. with some huge releases on his own sk11 imprint, sam delivers four devastating, club ready weapons.
sam’s driving style is prevalent on all 4 tracks yet he still injects a dose of emotion in each as twisted sequences and ambient, ethereal soundscapes are peppered throughout giving each one a unique, distinctive sound.
long-term soma collaborator tony scott drops his debut album with the label under his edit select alias, the perfectly crafted experience, “cyclical undulations”. having released with soma under his percy x moniker for years and having countless hits under his belt, scott reinvented himself as edit select. known for his dark, expressive and expansive music, edit select has become once of the most well respected and renowned artists in the genre. with this latest full length, he continues to explore the furthest reaches of the deep techno spectrum.
soma500 is a very special release that sees label heads slam visit two memorable tracks for them over this past anniversary year. the duo of stuart mcmillan & orde meikle rework robert hoods, the bond we formed - taken exclusively from the soma25 compilation and a track that has featured highly in countless sets, a unique slam rework of carl craig’s interpretation of delia gonzalez & gavin russom’s, relevee.
soma are proud to present the debut album from rebekah as she unleashes the incredible “fear paralysis”. rebekah has consistently been one of the most ferocious and exciting techno artists for some time and is currently riding high within the soma ranks after debuting on the label back in 2015 with the audacious “confined heart ep”. this album has certainly been a labour of love for rebekah as uncertain times, musically, lead her to refocusing all her time and energy into developing her sound with the aim of creating a cleaner rhetoric than she was generally known for. the culmination of this process has found rebekah returning to a simpler time where elements from the depths are explored thoroughly within “fear paralysis”.
since it’s inception in 1991 on the streets of glasgow, soma records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates. stuart mcmillan & orde meikle formed slam during the acid house explosion in the late 80’s and then together with friends glenn gibbons & dave clarke they forged one of electronic music’s most widely known and well respected labels. with mcmillan & meikle as the figureheads with their slam project and influenced by the early detroit techno scene, soma quickly began to develop it’s own sound and with their eyes firmly fixed on a vision of the future, the team began the quest to instill their unquenchable thirst for electronic music into the world around them. soma quickly became an international brand as slam’s anthemic “positive education” brought about an electronic renaissance that saw the group thrust into the limelight and green lit the furious rise of the label.
limited edition 5x12 inch box set with illustrated vinyl sleeves, poster and stickers.
as we gradually build toward the release of rebekah s debut album on soma, the hard hitting dj/producer drops her 3rd single in the shape of the code black ep. rebekah is on somewhat of a frenzied run of form at the moment with not only an exhaustive touring schedule but a slew of releases that stand as a testament to her dedication to techno.
soma proudly present the first in an exciting series of releases to celebrate 25 years at the top of electronic music as we turn to some of our favourite modern artists to reinvent some of the best from the back catalogue and up first is envoy s timeless classic, dark manoeuvres. originally released as part of the “coalition ep” in 1996 (which also featured the classic seawall), hope grant’s instantly recognisable hit is still found in nearly every techno dj’s record box and has continually served as a beacon of soma since it’s release. four new versions are served up here as dax j, norman nodge, obscure shape & shdw plus tensal all deliver fine interpretations of this soma classic.
soma’s italian connection, roberto clementi, makes a welcome return opening his 2016 account with the solid, “wall of people”. including a top notch remix form ilian tape label heads, marco & dario zenker. robert has slowly been building his credentials in the techno world with some fine releases and this driving number is another to add to increasing discography with soma.
the zenker brothers remix opens the ep as the munich based duo lend their deep and highly refined production talents to “wall of people”. ruptured beats play havoc with a shimmering high end and rattling percussive elements all tied in with a pulsing, modulating synth hook that keep the track feeling fairly dark. clementi’s original shows a much harder edge to his previous work with big, sub heavy beats worked around a more pumped up rhythm and tearing synth line
following the critically acclaimed debut album from tensal, soma presents a specially commissioned remix ep to compliment the album. a varied collection of artists are prominent on the release with new and established alike, each delivering their own take on tensal’s originals.
uk producer pessimist opens the ep. his unique aesthetic of jungle/drum&bass - come - techno certainly makes its presence felt on the a-side as he delivers a monster of a remix, soaked in dark, brooding textures and broken rhythms. another uk techno export makes his debut on soma as shifted lends his remix skills to the package. pulsating and propulsive, shifted exudes pure energy with his version of santolaya. prolific french producer umwelt closes out the ep with his interpretation of belga. an old skool, electro affair umwelt still retains a melancholic edge to the production.
soma are proud to present the debut album from one of techno’s most prolific and renowned producers, tensal. as one half of the duo exium, hector sandoval has already carved out a career in techno spanning over 20 years, with countless release on their self-run nheoma, warm up recordings & pole group, to name but a few. in 2014, he started the tensal project as an outlet for his own productions which allowed him the scope of pursuing the more direct and minimalistic approach with his music and also his djing. after hooking up with the soma camp in early 2017 and releasing a collection of well-refined singles, tensal delivers his debut album, graphical. searching to go beyond the realm of standard techno, tensal lends his considerable production experience to this project and creates a sophisticated and immersive album experience that flows gracefully between idm and techno.
after a storming soma debut at the tail end of 2017, cleric returns with the “silent kingdom ep”. this typically intense and raucous new release features an epic vsk remix on the flip. another hard hitting and astute release from one of the uk’s brightest talents.
after 3 hugely successful singles, veteran spanish producer, tensal will deliver his first full length later this year on soma. as we build toward this momentous occasion, four hard hitting and idiosyncratic tracks come courtesy of tensal as he drops the judgment ep.
tony scott drops his 2nd single for soma under the edit select moniker and continues to experiment with his deep and pervasive soundscapes. as we work toward his debut lp on the label, scott turns in 3 perfectly crafted and hypnotic techno affairs, drenched in smooth, calculated rhythms and mind bending atmospheres.
portuguese techno star lewis fautzi returns to soma with another earth shattering release as he drops the molecular spasms ep. the young producer once again shows great depth and knowledge with 4 straight up dance floor killers all set together his unique, futuristic sound.
yet more blissful listening comes your way courtesy of the impeccably talented deepchord. as we prepare for the release auratones, the detroit native’s 5th lp for soma, rod delivers the calming northern shores ep.
epic aural formations are always at the forefront of deepchord productions, every minute detail is constructed perfectly as each track gives off subtle nuances that nod to each aspect of modell s sound designer skills. the crystalline sonic formations in cirriforms blend together effortlessly allowing you to drift beyond while the ethereal pads of sky maps guide you through each unending swathe of reverb, each track bonded by subtle rhythms. crystal horizons sees modell delve even deeper, working more with percussive elements as his quintessential synth work seems to sit just beyond perspective, gliding in gently to remind you of an ever reaching presence. sand and shore has deepchord near strip the track of any clear rhythmic structure, with only faint sub bass allowing his uniquely processed field recordings and tranquil yet fluctuating synths to enhance the flow of the track.
a producer like no other, deepchord creates new sonic realms with each release.
a foray into deep, organic, cinematic dance music. subterranean bass, intercepted alien transmissions, and stripped down dance-beats meld with sheets of sounds that roll over the listener like waves lapping up on the shore. shimmering, watery, brain hemisphere synchronization tones caress and melt stress away. dance floor friendly tracks that work equally well in one’s private listening space. immersive music with a distinctive aquatic quality. inspired by detroit & berlin’s dance genres, but tempered by more ambience / atmosphere than one would expect from those genres. music without harshness or rough edges. fuzzy, out-of-focus, soft-sounds that slip in and out of the listener’s consciousness. uniquely melds current dance rhythms with lushness and spirituality. synesthetic sounds that trigger sensory experiences in cognitive pathways other than hearing smells of perfumes, thoughts of colours, and altered perception of time and space. psychoacoustic, cerebral, electronic listening music for those wanting a different experience than the current harsher, darker dance trends are offering. responsibly made gentle music designed from the ground-up to have a positive effect on the nervous system and leave the listener invigorated and recharged. chi-building sonic balm. timeless, exotic dance tracks for a new school of electronic music enthusiasts who are searching for beautiful sounds, crafted with a higher purpose in mind.
the incomparable deepchord is back on soma and drops the first single from forthcoming album, auratones due in october. as is expected from the detroit based sound designer, the campfire ep is everything we have come to know and admire about his productions, from the spaced out, ambient sound fields to classic dub techno.
2017 repress incoming!
the ever-reliant deepchord kicks off 2014 in his usual stylish way with two deep uts in the luxury ep. after last years jaunt into the ambient with 20 electrostatic soundfields, rod model return to the world of slick beats and even dreamier synths and atmospheres.
soma welcome back long time collaborator tony scott under his edit select alias with the bridge. having recorded such classics as x-track under percy x, tony has since found new depths with his edit select moniker which has seen countless releases on his own self titled label and more. with an album currently planned for release on soma in early 2018, edit select takes his first steps onto his hometown label with this new single.
suitably deep production is always the order of the day with any edit select release and this one is no different. title track, the bridge, begins with a chugging beat before gradually undulating into epic soundscapes. flux takes a darker turn as twisted synths resonate throughout the typical atmospheric backdrop. tonalist creates more rhythmic scenes with intense percussive elements keeping the track moving.
limited backstock available soon!
soma welcome the debut album from the ever-growing roster of youthful talent as lewis fautzi drops the gare album, named in homage to the gare club, porto, where lewis made his discovery of techno. a bold 4 track single debut gave rise to the album process midway through 2013 and under the careful supervision of soma, lewis has provided a definitive peak in his sound cultivated on the back of years of studio work. a collection of deep, dark and twisted techno awaits heralding a coming of age for the portuguese native.
rebekah returns to the fold with her second ep on soma, following her 2015 debut “confined heart”. staying true to her uk techno roots, the berlin based artist delivers three monster cuts that exemplify her ferocious sound.
techno duo slam present a brand new artist album “machine cut noise”. with the double vinyl album, machine cut noise, stuart mcmillan & orde meikle delve into the everyday workings of what makes us human, with life, so to speak, running at the very heart of album. much of their time is spent on the road, therefore, many of the original ideas for the album were created in airports, hotels and where ever the two found themselves inspired around the world. this created a vibe that each track was born of the modern machine itself.
the incomparable mark henning blasts back on soma with yet another dose of machine funk as he drops the jaguar ep. mark has consistently been one of soma’s top artists due to his amazing sound design and keen knowledge of exactly what make a top dance floor track and this latest ep really shows him operating at his highest level.
slam have started a sub division of their soma records label called soma track series which sees the duo going back to their chicago-inspired roots and to kick things off their techno bomb *make you move* and *take you there ft. mr v* appear on the first physical release of the series.
atmospheric vol 2 is the second single to be taken from deepchords latest full length but sees him stray from the album tracks, bringing 3 exclusive pieces to the vinyl, keeping in the same musical vein as ultraviolet music.
the first lad of birmingham techno, rebekah, arrives on soma in a rapturous debut on the confined heart ep. having made her name through the mighty clr and her own decoy label, rebekah has her sights focussed firmly on the future as she develops her ferocious sound with the classy 2 track ep. showing real death to her productions, confined heart has an almost, deeper emotional content whilst still being true to her uncompromising sound. kill floor immediately has you running for the hills as rebekah powers home her soma debut with sheers brute force.
gravetemple was formed in 2006 as a side-project of the band sunn o))) by oren ambarchi, stephen o malley and attila csihar. the group formed initially to tour in israel summer 06, creating several recordings which eventually became the holy down album, which was released on southern lord recordings in 2007. at the time of the israel tour, the lebanon war started and was in action. in summer 08 the trio reformed together with the addition of australian drummer matt skitz sanders for a short european tour culminating at a headlining performance at supersonic festival in birmingham. in late 2009 the original trio reconvened for a special one-off concert at londons institute of contemporary arts. april 2013 marks the first set of live action since that period, and a new chapter in the ongoing system of the related network.
ambient/ruin was created with the 2008 quartet, elements of tape collage, concrete, field recordings blend within a strong geographically diverse (parts were recorded in japan, australia, paris and israel) suite of heavy minimalist/maximalist music, black/death metal and drone. the culmination of these efforts become the music, literally, of sadistik exekution meeting phill niblock.
limited vinyl edition of the black dog s new album on soma quality recordings. each of the 500 copies is hand numbered and screen printed by the artists. 3 x 180g heavyweight vinyl. the black dog are without a doubt one of the hardest working acts in electronic music. no sooner have they released one of 2008s best albums in >radio scarecrow< and the massive 12 inch >detroit vs. sheffield< which featured two remixes from detroit minimal grandmaster robert hood, they now prepare for their next album release. >further vexations< is a real successor to >radio scarecrow<. the thinking behind the predecessor is still very evident with even more bite, but theres something about the new album that lends itself to the dark club atmosphere. perhaps the recent bout of constant gigging has had its effect on the act because this one is going to be tearing up floors around the world on its release. >further vexations< might have taken half the time to create but still manages to maintain the same degree of meticulous detail and attention as its predecessor, and is a complete package of tracks demanding to be listened to from start to finish. >further vexations< looks to rouse the sort of political attitudes that have been sorely missing from electronic music since raves backlash against the criminal justice act in the 90s.

the black dog are a legendary live act whose ability to destroy venues and wreck soundsystems is undeniable. they blur the boundaries between djing and performance while possessing an excellent sense of where to take the crowd. live, they represent purist techno, which is also utterly crowd pleasing...
