out 2 is a project from jeremy campbell and r. zanzibar, who have previously worked together on albums for l.i.e.s. and lectric sands under different aliases. they sound right at home on emotional response, channeling the influence of 1980s new york dancefloor hybridization into six original tracks and their counterpart dub versions. its an impeccable tribute to the forefathers of new / no / minimal wave with the right kind of funk rubbed in the groove and ample space in the mix for all the live dubbing the style demands. moving is a surefire death disco party starter, dancing hovers in a beyond the grave island boogie reverie and some airs red there heads out into exotically enhanced territory without losing that nyc grit. it s a marvelous record, with the dub versions adding new dimensions to the music rather than simply repeating the same tricks sans vocals.

umeko ando (1932-2004) was a folk singer from japan. she is a representative of the ainu culture on the hokkaido island in the north of japan. iuta upopo was released on her last cd upopo sanke in 2003, produced by oki kano (oki dub ainu band). upopo is the name of a particular singing style which involves repetition, while iuta simply means song. umeko ando performs this minimalistic vocal in a brittle, emotional manner which is framed by a slow, percussive pulse and oki’s tonkori patterns (the tonkori is a string instrument of the ainu). when pingipung’s andi otto toured japan in 2017, he came across this enchanting, folkloristic and danceable song in a dj set of a friend. he made contact with oki kano who agreed to license the track from his own label chikar studio. it is pressed on vinyl for the first time. this single is part of pingipung’s ongoing concentrical series of 7inches. we are very pleased to have a m.rux remix on the b side. he is not only a brilliant original producer, as his ep in the hold (ynfnd 2016) has proved, his claim to fame is a sublime collection of edits & cuts (for free on his bandcamp) which skillfully takes classics by nina simone, townes van zandt and others to the slowhouse dancefloor. his remix adds a gliding subbass, a kickdrum and occasional claps to the enhanced percussive structures of the original. umeko ando’s vocals adapt seamlessly to m.rux’s powerful electronic production

nice price deal !!! first single of english synth-melodic pop band chew lips on kitsuné. with remixes of tepr and david sugar. there is nothing quite usual about chew lips. not their way of making music, or their live shows, or indeed, their inception. when the vocalist tigs and multi-instrumentalists james watkins and will mcdonald decided to start making music together they had only one edict: not to sound like just another guitar band. the result was the organic and purely accidental evolution of their current, electronically enhanced sound every song sounds like it could be a planet-bestriding, galaxy swallowing pop smash, with will and james gorgeously whirling and mutating casiotone/guitar/bass/drum machine attack providing the perfect backdrop when the amazing frontwoman tigs s voice soars, swoops and dips precipitously and smoulders beautifully. with their first single solo on kitsuné, chew lips alternately capture the yearning, impatience, beauty, confusion and impermanence of youth, with tigs summing up the hopes and dreams of a whole generation with the fist-pumping battlecry of >we dont want to wait, theres no time, no time<. this is pop music alright, but pop with a gloriously vivid, almost cinematic sweep, as well as a human heart, filled with a very real sense of longing and desire, in amidst the shiny, clattering electronica. french producer tepr, well known for his remix of yelle >a cause des garcons<, has made of the song a dancefloor anthem while david sugar smoothly delivers an uplifted version of the track.

we’re glad to welcome back aun to cyclic law for their latest opus! aun’s music as always suggested forays into other dimensions, be it to imaginary worlds, industrial wastelands, through space and time, or via mind altered states. from the ominous dystopian artwork, of a city being drained of its energy by some mysterious black hole, to the first notes of the title track “fiat lux” we are once again transported on aun’s otherworldly travelling path. ever since the space industrial and power electronics of aun’s previous cyclic law cult release “black pyramid”, the world has become even more sinister, but in contrast, “fiat lux” exudes even more of aun’s melancholic hopefulness. the disintegrating chords and densely textured waves, anchored by a left field industrial pulse, invoke occult drug enhanced, future psychedelia. created in part in their montreal studio, these tracks were extensively performed live, prior to recording, and refined while on tour breaks in montpellier, barcelona and tokyo. the energy of these cities is definitely at work in these recordings, which also features a french connection of experimental heavy hitters: witxes, frédéric d. oberland and philippe petit have helped round out dumais and leblanc’ arsenal. fiat lux: let there be light, from light will come darkness.

tommy mccook to be leader of the skatalites in the early 1960s, he went on to become the chief exponent of rock steady as leader of the supersonics house band at treasure isle. mccook remained a key session player throughout the reggae era, and during the roots reggae heyday of the mid-1970s, his expressive melodies found particularly strong outlet, especially on the music he created for grassroots producer bunny ‘striker’ lee as a member of the aggrovators, the studio outfit lee hand-picked from the cream of jamaica’s musical crop. when enhanced by the adventurous mixing experiments of king tubby, the engineer that turned dub into an art form, instrumental aggrovators music became positively ethereal, yielding an exceptional listening experience. on king tubby meets the aggrovators at dub station, tommy mccook blows mean sax and flute over dubs of outstanding tracks by johnny clarke, cornell campbell, linval thompson, delroy wilson, and others greats. first issued on third world in 1976, this vinyl reissue comes complete with four thematic bonus tracks, and the whole disc makes for essential listening. reissued on lp and cd with bonus tracks!
