the air texture series asks two producers/ performers to select a double cd worth of unreleased music. the only guidance is the music should not be main floor bangers, other than that we get out of the way, allowing them autonomy over their selection. this time steffi and martyn were asked to step up. exciting, since as residents at berghain/panorama bar - two of the most important dancefloors in the worldÉ how would two such respected artists approach our experimental ethos. bringing together contributions from veteran producers such as total science, as one (kirk degiorgio) and stingray, as well as contemporaries actress, vivek and shed, the artists explain in a press release that the selected tracks are all unique interpretations of a leftfield, non linear aesthetic. 26 total tracks including the above mentioned, answer code request, shed, dbridge, appleblim, faltydl, mosca, kink, and steffi and martyn as well.

a remastered version of shenzhou on triple vinyl and double cd with the bonus album-the samphire tower. paul cooper, pitchfork: shenzhou, aside from being the name of the chinese manned-spaceflight vehicles, means magic vessel, and i cant imagine a more apt description for geir jenssen s latest excursion into ambient deep listening. after following an aphexian trajectory with his releases on apollo, the ambient sublabel of belgiums r&s records, jenssen veered from the padded sci-fi-inspired techno of microgravity and patashnik with 1997s substrata, a genre-defining exploration of drifting soundscapes. substrata remains for many the album that perfectly expresses the serenity and intensity of arctic wildernesses, a landscape jenssen knows intimately, having spent much of his life in the norwegian arctic circle. in 2000, jenssen nearly eclipsed the success of substrata with cirque, a frequently frosty submerging of excerpted conversations and found environmental sounds that rivals wolfgang voigts gas project in its rumbling, gauzy beauty. jenssen again relies on found sound as source material for shenzhou, but this time, the found sound is old vinyl recordings of the orchestral works of french impressionist composer and ambient precursor, claude debussy. jenssen lifts fragments of these scratched records in a similar manner as he did for cirques black lamb grey falcon and iberia eterea

die geschichte von -ton steine scherben in dub- begann vor 20 jahren. nach zwei aufsehenerregenden kompilationen des damals noch jungen labels echo beach, die ein schlaglicht auf das britische und internationale dub-schaffen der mittneunziger warfen, sollte sich -king size dub volume 3- auf deutschland konzentrieren. neben den toten hosen, fantastischen vier und nina hagen dachte man dabei auch an die scherben. so kam es zu einem ersten treffen mit r.p.s. lanrue, dem ehemaligen scherbengitarristen und musikalischen nachlassverwalter der band. dadurch landete eine version von -mole hill rockers- auf dem sampler. und dann passierte erst mal nichts mehr. bis labelchef nicolai beverungen zwei seiner dub-spezialisten, n�mlich fe wolter (dubvisionist) und alexander hornbach (aldubb), zu einer weiteren zusammenarbeit mit r.p.s. lanrue bewegen konnte. jetzt wurde es konkret. obwohl f_r die scherbenwerke keine mehrspuraufnahmen vorlagen, gelang es den dub-arch�ologen, die essenz der st_cke in exklusiven mixen zu erhalten. nur punktuell wurden durch overdubs spuren erg�nzt, verst�rkt oder tiefer gelegt. so entstand, was keiner f_r mÖglich gehalten h�tte: ein dub-kaleidoskop aus den scherben des westberliner klassenkampfes.
