it sounds ridiculous to state that this is efdemins best release so far on curle, when you realise thats the artist that brought us classics like acid bells and america... but the whole ep truly is amazing from start to finish. all tracks feature efdemins brand new second mix-album called naïf.
limited to 100 copies, including download card with mix. efdemin a.k.a phillip sollmann returns with a striking hybrid concept that merges the album format with the continuous dj mix format, presenting completely new material in a seamless manner. this mix, named naïf, officially reinstates his label of the same name and is a sprawling tour of inner space featuring 19 distinct tracks from fellow producers along with an additional ten that feature efdemin himself.
(dj koze edit + terrence dixon rmx) its been 10 years since efdemins debut mix-cd carry on, pretend were not in the room and its single america. back in 2008 it ended up on the first place in the groove chart, but for some reason we never had it remixed. with efdemins second mix-cd and the accompanying move your head ep now scheduled for mid april, wed like to announce this minimal detroit mix from terrence dixon to close things off in style. on the flipside theres a dj koze edit.
PHASING FACES (EFDEMIN, LAPIEN, RYAN JAMES FORD AND POPULATION ONE REMIXES)
12" Vinyl NL21.12.17
anagram label follow up their phasing faces releases with remixes from efdemin, lapien, ryan james ford and terrence dixon under his population one moniker this december. released earlier this year, phasing faces was a two-part series featuring anetha, elad magdasi, mathame and maukook, not to mention label founders sinfol and octual. anagram have now tapped up four reputable names for a heavyweight remix package, dial regular efdemin, fast rising mdr and answer code request act ryan james ford, dutch producer lapien aka one half of delsins artefakt, as well as renowned detroit artist terrence dixon appearing as population one. ostgut tons efdemin opens the package with his immersive remix of sinfol trembling, incorporating pulsating drones, echoing effects and ethereal synths. anethas acid train then gets reimagined by shut founder ryan james ford - the canadian combines thudding kicks with mesmerising atmospherics as metallic percussion skips throughout. adding further depth to the release, rekids and mistress recordings artist lapien remixes elad magdasi two floors to generate a smooth aesthetic complete with serene nuances and soulful vocal coos before rush hour and metroplexs population one ties everything together with a deep house reinterpretation of octual dark sky.
italian label out-er celebrates its five years of existence with an incredibly diverse double 12” compilation involving new and old artists who perfectly represent the ample house and techno sounds the label has been spreading: juan atkins, orlando voorn, efdemin, terrence dixon, label owner simone gatto, civilian, the analogue cops, aubrey, haiku, irakli and regen.
was 2008 no. 1 in the goove charts (singles) highly anticipated first release from efdemin since his self-titled debut album last year on dial, that - together with the >acid bells< single on curle - received very high critical acclaim from around the globe!
black repress! andre kronerts seminal exu ep gets a comprehensive rework from some of the most outstanding on the scene. tense and sinister new cuts from kronert introduce both sides of the release, whilst the label calls upon remixes from berlin mainstays efdemin and ed davenport, as well as hollands finest export juan sanchez, plus stockholm ltd label boss par grindvik alongside fellow swede peder mannerfelt. retaining the slurred vocal of the original, efdemin layers thundering effects over chasmic bass in his mix of into the zone, which saw heavy rotation last year. meanwhile davenport brings a wild yet streamlined intensity to c.o.d.e.2. side b sees grindvik team up with mannerfelt to provide a joint interpretation of into the zone, which they manipulate into a peak-time epic, with a soaring melody over hammering toms. finally, juan sanchez channels funk through roll the dice with a twitchy, groove-laden rework. the spirit of exu is made physical once again via 12 inches and 27 minutes of wax.

BERLIN BY OVERNIGHT (CFCF / EFDEMIN / LORNA DUNE / TOM ADAMS RMXS)
12" Vinyl, 180gr D07.10.14
berlin by overnight by max richter is taken from daniel hopes latest album spheres (2013) and will now be released on 180 gram vinyl (plus download code) together with 4 remixes by internationally acclaimed remixers, who were carefully selected and picked up on the nocturnal, minimal and repetitive atmosphere.
after the highly anticipated release of his third studio album decay, efdemin presents the first part of a remix series featuring his favourite producers. bristols underground hero asusu inflates the reduced album opener some kind of up and down yes with deepest bass and beautiful scapes to the max in a true photek-style. last years control by staffan linzatti was one of the favourite constants to be played in every efdemin or lawrence set. luckily his version of solaris is another epic hymn here with futuristic enhancements of the third kind.the most extraordinary piece on decay versions part 1 is the borderland states rework of parallaxis. efdemins studio-mate john gürtler recorded that beauty with adding acoustic instruments only and sounds like a meeting of moondog with wim mertens.
hugo barritt was a promoter at londons infamous egg venue, during which time he focused his attention on robert owens residency at the club. a friendship was struck up and when hugo finally decided to leave to concentrate on production he could think of no-one better to provide the vocals to you are than the most recognisable voice in dance music, mr owens himself.befitting such a wonderful coupling, efdemin heard the track and agreed immediately to provide the remix, and a splendidly slick ride it is too, taking the merest hints of roberts vocal whilst injecting a melodic feel for a blissed out ride through the early hours. contrast that with high octane thrills of murmur regular tom demacs remix - dispensing with the subtleties of the original in favour of a power house ride of beats and bass, warping roberts vocal into something altogether sleazier.
the second edition of efdemins successful chicago series comes up with another outstanding bundle of future classics. four gorgeous remixes by deadbeat, fred p, rndm and efdemin himself make the wintertime starting extremely hot. again phillip sollmann aka efdemin personally chooses a dreamteam of remixers: scott monteith aka deadbeat is well known from his releases on scape, cynosure and wagonrepair. new yorks fred p aka black jazz consortium digs deep again after we already love him for his large output on underground quality, mule musiq, laid and semester. last but not least dials darlings rndm and efdemin get it well done with two modern interpretations for the excited dancefloor
having launched blkrtz to wide spread critical acclaim with his album drawn and quartered in june this year, deadbeat now enlist the aid of two fellow berlin residents who need no introduction for remix duties. working with the source material from the first quarter, scuba dons his scb guise and turns in a slow burning sci-fi techno monster sure to appeal to fans of monolake and his own early work. rife with reverb drenched sonar pings and mechanized groans in the periphery, the track lurches toward its epic crescendo like an alien infested star ship nostromo sliding slowly to its demise into the center of a black hole. bringing things back up into the light on the flip, efdemin tranforms the fourth quarter (calas house) into a chugging deep pocket house journey. riding the cusp of a rubbery bassline and molding the chords into a timeless house organ motif, the originals dubwise leanings are heard loud and clear through a cloud of crackling unintelligible vocal samples and thunderous spring reverb crashes worthy of king tubby himself. without a doubt two floor ready reinterpretations and a great sign of things to come from deadbeats new curatorial ventur
with surely one of the most exciting releases ever dial presents the heavenly dreamteam dj koze, portable and efdemin himself remixing chicago. and when three brightest shining stars collide- the explosion is louder and more colourful than the most magnificent fireworks. stefan kozalla aka dj koze has always been a part of the dial family somehow so it was just a matter of time to ask the pampa label owner for a remix. the beloved chicago album was the right work to involve the most incredible soldier against boredom. knowing alan abrahams aka portable from his first süd electronic parties from london, phillip sollmann (efdemin) and alan always kept exhanging music and friendship
its been almost a year since the release of efdemins fantastic two-tracker >america/the pulse<. >america<, that was also used on his curle mix-cd >carry on...<, became quite a big tune and even ended up on the number one spot in groove magazines chart. therefor efdemin preferred that no-one touched that track anymore, and we decided to give >the pulse< a remix treatment. john beltran is a highly respected artist that has been around since the early nineties - r&s! peacefrog! styrax! - and when we heard the ultra-funky mega-bomb he made from >the pulse<, we knew we made the right decision to ask him. another one of our long time favourites from accross the ocean is convextion aka e.r.p. he did some ground-breaking stuff on matrix, down low and frantic flowers. we asked him to do a remix of crcs amazing take on detroit techno, >vaskitsaherra<, originally on curle 009. the result ended up being nothing else than a timeless piece of art. this record comes as a beautifully marbled coloured vinyl, limited to 500 pieces.
naif 001 features nina kraviz from moscow on the a-side with the stripped down, noisy and rough tune >hotter than july<. she is a singer, producer and dj that runs parties in moscows club propaganda. she is a family member of uq. b-side features a track by efdemin called >sun<.
phantasma one is the first 12?,, of our second compilation, featuring”clapper” by tobias. and efdemin s “hope”. we are astonished and thrilled this split ep doesn t even sound like one but is of beautiful consistence and adequacy. “clapper” hypnotizes from the first second with a straight forward percussion rhythm which curls inescapable upwards even in the mind of an inattentive listener, pushing ahead with classic machine drums driven with a both glaring and harsh attitude. the crystal surface of efdemin s “hope” is woven into a plait of swelling basses and enriched with extensive spins of snare rolls and precious carpets of highlighted chords which seems to rise out of the drums which carry the whole track with slick efficiency. without a doubt this vinyl will be in every record case for a long time. grab your copy as long as there are some.
here comes andreas heiszenberger (ware/normoton) with what seems like a requiem to a past love. the track is moody, twisted, dubby and full of intense ambivalent emotions, from love to hate and from pop to abstraction. then comes nass aka geiger (firm/teile/kindish) to give the original the treatment and what a treatment! surely more effective than your post-depression counselor, nass goes for a dub techno oddissey that will make hardwax enthusiasts drop their prozac prescription. on the flip side one of the men of the year, mr. efdemin (dial / liebe*detail / curle) comes with the definitive solution: go deep, then stand up and dance. efdemin presents us with a work of love, an unmistaken hommage to the sound of berlin. to finalise, andreas heiszenberger goes for the traditional medicine to relieve any heartache: deep house with a nod to lowtec, theo parrish and the dial ensemble. a truly perfect moment
slamming hypnotic techhouse action from henry (known from his classic releases on container, harthouse , mfs, superstition...) and denis karimani aka remute. dominated by a sustaining synth-chord, percussive beats and a funky bassline-bit this tune sounds absolutely fresh... incl superb efdemin remix (dial, liebe*detail...)
>if house is a nation, i wanna be president !< efdemin predigt was die stimmbänder hergeben ohne den spass aus den augen zu verlieren. hymne, alter ! carsten jost begibt sich derweil auf deepe pfade im dial universum
endlich da ! die neue dial mit dem tollen >groove 100 compilation< beitrag von efdemin. darüber hinaus lässt lawrence seine chicago-liebe aufblitzen bevor michaela meise & sergej jensen die platte mit akustisch ambienter gitarrenmusik beenden
after more than three years of silence as a producer, efdemin a.k.a phillip sollmann returns with a striking hybrid concept that merges the album format with the -continuous dj mix- format, presenting completely new material in a seamless manner. this cd-mix, named naïf, officially reinstates his label of the same name and is a sprawling tour of inner space featuring 19 distinct tracks from fellow producers (e.g. margaret dygas, steve bicknell, jeroen search, pom pom, marco shuttle or gunnar haslam) along with an additional ten that feature efdemin himself (either as soloist or collaborator). the release condenses his decade-long dj-ing journey and evolution as a producer into a single potent elixir of contemporary techno. owing to his additional projects, such as collaborating with pan artist konrad sprenger on a modular organ system to be installed in museums, or scoring for a neue musik ensemble, the berlin-based efdemin is known as hiker between the worlds . his regular stints at berghain or panoramabar, his partnership with established labels (e.g. ostgut ton, dial, sushitech) and the leadership of his own naïf imprint all demonstrate that since more than a decade.
efdemin is back on dial records with his third full-length album decay, following his self-titled debut in 2007 and chicago, in 2010. once again he offers a stunningly seductive stream of music written in his very own hand
the huge success of his selftitled debut in 2007 chicago is the second album of the berlin-based producer and dj who releases his music under his moniker efdemin with dial records. chicago is definitely the top match of dials 10 years anniversary releases. efdemins new works can be regarded as the turning point of a trend based house and techno scene into a new contemporary >anti – trend< movement already proclaimed by protagonists such as riccardo villalobos, dj koze, luciano and many more.
