Hinter diesem geheimnisvollen Kürzel verbirgt sich Hanno Leichtmann aka Static.Formally known als Vulva String Quartett hat Leichtmann in der Vergangenheit auf dem Düsseldorfer Label Combination Records einige Maxis veröffentlicht, sowie einen feinen Remix für Daniel Meteos >Jacks Daniel Remixes< auf Kalk Pets beigesteuert. Bereits 2006 veröffentlichte Leichtmann eine Platte auf Karaoke Kalk: >Nuit Du Plomb<. Eine wunderbare Ambientplatte in Anlehnung einer szenischen Lesung der Novelle >Die Nacht aus Blei< von Hans Henny Jahnn. Welchen Namen er am Ende auch benutzen mag. Leichtmann steht für musikalische Innovation, in diesem Fall jenseits des 4/4 Mainstreams. Auf Kalk Pets gibt es nun 2 neue Stücke von wunderbarer Qualität. Ergänzt wird diese famose 12 inch durch einen Efdemin Remix. So klingt Musik.
Here we go again: Karaoke Kalk is releasing Kalk Pets 19 – VSQ.
Behind the mysterious initials is Hanno Leichtmann a.k.a. Static. He has already released a number of 12″s as VSQ, formally known as Vulva String Quartett, on his Düsseldorf-based label Combination Records as well as contributed a fine remix of Daniel Meteo’s “Jack’s Daniel Remxes” to the Kalk Pets series.
Leichtmann has already released an album on Karaoke Kalk in 2006: “Nuit Du Plomb”. A wonderful ambient album following a dramatic reading of Hans Henny Jahnn’s novella “The Night of Lead” (“Die Nacht aus Blei”).
Whatever name he might use: Leichtmann stands for musical innovation on the far side of 4/4 mainstream. Kalk Pets now presents you with two new tracks of marvellous quality. A remix by Efdemin accomplishes this splendid 12″. So klingt Musik.

VSQ schafft mit „Thisisthat“ eine leichtfüßige Verbindung von Shoegazer-Romantik und pumpendem House. Das Titelstück funktioniert kaleidoskopartig, wenn sich die tröpfchenweise dosierten Samples langsam zu einem verspielten, sehr organischen Klangbild verdichten. „This Is Not The Last Song“ schlägt mit seinen verzerrten Streichern einen wehmütigeren Unterton an, der durch Efdemins Remix wieder relativiert wird. „Who the fuck do you think you are?“, fragt da eine verkiffte Stimme in die Runde und leitet das sich langsam zu einem ekstatischen Höhepunkt schraubende Stück ein. groove, 03-04/2010
tolle ep! ich mag besonders das "thisisthat"-original mit seiner hypnotischen melancholie, und auch den efdemin-remix, der eine unheimlich geile rhythmik hat! paul frick
oh man, this EP is beautiful! i *adore* the original version of "thisisthat" -- exactly the kind of approach i love, just building element upon element, but really subtly, so that it never feels overloaded. and the efdemin is really lovely -- lush textures and unconventional beat patterns... reminds me a little of recent john talabot stuff, but more murky. anyway, thanks, i love it! philip sherburne
