2018 repress - bicep make their way home to feel my bicep records for their first 12” on the imprint since their collaborative ‘dahlia’, recorded with hammer, back in september of 2015. fmb006 is a notable addition to the label - a reimagining of blaze’s seminal recording ‘lovelee dae’ - originally released on classic back in 1997, before a string of subsequent re-issues and remix packages on playhouse, true and urban tracks that included carl craig and 20:20 vision. the remix was originally designed to be included in their essential mix in 2014, but a lack of space has meant that its pressing on fmb is the first time it sees the light of day. using ralph lawson and carl finlow’s classic aforementioned acapella version as the basis of their work, the bicep lads ensnare an air of swooning euphoria in their remix that stays true to both their original productions and their dj sets. shortened vocals suffuse galloping 909s and a gleaming synth riff that certify it as a festival fail safe

die geschichte von -ton steine scherben in dub- begann vor 20 jahren. nach zwei aufsehenerregenden kompilationen des damals noch jungen labels echo beach, die ein schlaglicht auf das britische und internationale dub-schaffen der mittneunziger warfen, sollte sich -king size dub volume 3- auf deutschland konzentrieren. neben den toten hosen, fantastischen vier und nina hagen dachte man dabei auch an die scherben. so kam es zu einem ersten treffen mit r.p.s. lanrue, dem ehemaligen scherbengitarristen und musikalischen nachlassverwalter der band. dadurch landete eine version von -mole hill rockers- auf dem sampler. und dann passierte erst mal nichts mehr. bis labelchef nicolai beverungen zwei seiner dub-spezialisten, nämlich fe wolter (dubvisionist) und alexander hornbach (aldubb), zu einer weiteren zusammenarbeit mit r.p.s. lanrue bewegen konnte. jetzt wurde es konkret. obwohl für die scherbenwerke keine mehrspuraufnahmen vorlagen, gelang es den dub-archäologen, die essenz der stücke in exklusiven mixen zu erhalten. nur punktuell wurden durch overdubs spuren ergänzt, verstärkt oder tiefer gelegt. so entstand, was keiner für möglich gehalten hätte: ein dub-kaleidoskop aus den scherben des westberliner klassenkampfes. die vinyl-lp ist auf 999 nummerierte exemplare limitiert und erscheint inklusive album-cd.

komponist und filmemacher anthony tombling jr aka cuts arbeitete bereits mit fuck buttons, james holden, haxan cloak und wire zusammen und veröffentlicht nun den soundtrack seines experimentalfilms “exist” auf village green (cd, zwei vinyl-eps). inspiriert von einem h.p. lovecraft-gedicht, erkundet der 40-minütige film die phänomene albträume und schlafparalyse. cuts’ musik basiert auf düsterer electronica mit einflüssen von mogwai und my bloody valentine. der track “bunsen burner” wurde bereits in ivor novellos prämiertem soundtrack zu alex garlands sci-fi-meisterwerk “ex machina” eingesetzt.

monstrous mid-tempo disco groovings on this one, giving the avergae white band a run for their money. doc severinsen, the renowned jazz hornsman dropping some tight ass funk on this rare as hens teeth epic white label promo. this is a fully legit reissue borne out of an above board / sony music collaboration, repressed from the official sources. the original 1976 promo 12- had the same track on both sides as promos often did back then so we ve decided to include a special version on the flip, a lovingly tweaked re-edit from the cult leader himself dj harvey. harvs edit has been around for a minute, but this version backing the og 76 disco mix makes this 12inch a bonafide must grab for all disco enthusiasts! do not snooze. this one s a winner!

the finnish tropical troupe maajo is back with a two-track ep. in contrast to the afro-balearic sound of their 2016 debut tropic of tulli, the new defo / mansaba ep is a step in a deeper and sometimes darker direction. defo kicks off the ep with a driving 5/4 rhythm. reminiscent of mark ernestus’ ndagga sounds, it is a tribal tune with maajo’s signature ethereal disco elements. trevor deep jr.’s version straightens out the original’s unconventional time signature and focuses on a four-to-four beat and plenty of berliner dub. the remix is a solid dancefloor tool, traversing the original like a train making its way through a dark rainforest. the b-side is entirely covered by mansaba, a 14-minute long journey into inwards. this studio jam, recorded largely live, is a wild mixture of polyrhythmic sequences, krautrock guitar licks, equatorial forest percussion and violin synths. the trip starts slow and soothing, sneakily picks up pace and keeps grow and growing, eventually exploding into a full-on tribal dance.

part two of the ep features the motor city drum ensemble remix, and the original “in a silent mix” version from 1999, a track out of its time when released on allen’s sole record “black voices”. a long serving dekmantel veteran, danilo plessow was there from the start. after compiling the first selector’s compilation last year, mcde turns tony allen’s masterpiece in a jam, with added house beats, giving the funk number the edit treatment. the final mix sounds like the kind of track you would hear mcde play in one of his sets as he’s firing up the heat. the organ sounds and trumpets are left high in the mix, to create an unforgettable hook that resonates throughout, in complete motor city style.
