barbir from les points delivers a truly inspiring ep for the 14th release on concealed. the musical range is wide, spanning from detroit flavoured house music and techno, to more futuristic breakbeat stuff with hints of electro. tied together with swirling acid melodies and deep pads, mixed with uplifting beat and bass jams, all laid down over 6 quite different cuts. as a special treat, we find two collaboration with louh on the b side as well... yay!

supreme chicago dj and world traveller jamie 3.26 comes on board with the gamm fam with a diverse two track ep. the opening track is a 11.24 min long philly gospel workout that is just as uplifting as its a real treat to tweak in the club (= isolater adapted). it s definitely one for the hard working djs. but to show that jamie s range is wide he delivers an even longer jam on the flip that clocks in at 14.08 mins...ouch! this time jamie goes italo (but not that cheesy shit) with a fantastic edit of barsotti s music box classic -whole lotta love- - chicago style!

transit records 005, -without end hours“, comes loaded with phat, but definitely distinct dancefloor bangers that take the title of the ep quite literally. they cover a full night (and day) out in the club, and range from dark, technoish house („when your groove is mine-), over uplifting re-interpretations of classic house anthems (-without end hours-), and dystopian tech-house (negativ dekadent remix), through to sizzling after hour house (zuckermann remix). ryoma sasaki’s originals show his love for classic electronic music blueprints and how he is able to turn them creatively into something compellingly fresh and contemporary. it feels like listening (and dancing) to something you know, but not from the past, more so from the now. and while they wonderfully work in that now of the night, negativ dekadent turns this familiar feeling into an uneasiness with the future, only to make you forget about it in the abyss of his beats and overwhelming synth patterns just before the morning breaks. finally, zuckermann fully beams you into the slightly distorted new world you might find yourself in anyway at 11 am on a beautiful sunny morning on one of those (berlin) dancefloors.

the second installment for the label comes from sheffield based artist tommy vicari jnr. the ep starts with always be here, track which gives the release the name and sets up the mood with an uplifting vibe. rudow explores more esoteric realms, bringing you into deeper states of mind. ramshackles ventures into more dub influenced territory, expansive chords and a twisted beat make it a monster in big sound systems. untoucome closes the ep with a heavy bassline, sprinkled with some tripped out sounds making it perfect for a closing trip.

(180 g vinyl) there is something wonderfully uplifting and naive about the mittle european b-movie pop and library music of the 1970s. an imperfect perfection of sound palette and melody, creating & encapsulating a whole world of hypnotic intrigue.this feeling is what comes to mind when listening to the debut album of californian scott gilmore, which is reminiscent (in more modern times) of the pre moon safari air.

music is love boss returns to his home label after a few brief excursions on hot creations & viva music last year, and he returns in style. 3 summer time slammers and a stellar remix from the mak & pasteman boys. middle ground is a dusty filtered house track, aligned with a soaring string section, which narrate the warm uplifting journey this track lays down. mandingo was made as a tool for oli’s sets last summer and after some huge reactions and some serious demand, mandingo was set for a vinyl release. big stabs and plenty of funk - this track is party ready. on the flip we find mak & pasteman return to music is love after an appearance on the 3rd lovebox va in 2016. piano4 is flipped into what these boys do best, simple stripped back grooves delivered with stupendous power. on b2 is the original take on piano4 which sees oli flexing his power house muscles on this big piano track. piano4 is an unrelenting beast that twists and turns its way through various passages of maximum intent.

now the dust has settled after louf’s debut, we have an emotionally driven release from tom vr on valby rotary. ‘hear me out’ is a deep club track that builds an atmosphere of both heart warmth and heart break. it boasts eerie vocal samples, raspy chords and coarse punching drums, making it energetic yet still suitable for the sensitive euphoria of the dance floor. the b side ‘indigo’ is a pulsating soundscape of longing & tension that eventually erupts with an uplifting finale of acid and the splash of ride cymbals.

wild is the most complete musical work by nuage up to date. following a thought-out plan from beginning to finish, with a real introduction, development, and conclusion, the album is influenced foremost by the sun, sea and tropics. the music slowly evolves from warm and uplifting songs towards colder and more mysterious realms. . taking a full year to finish the album, including the entire change of season from summer to winter, memories of trips to mexico, the mountains, and the seaside fade away and are replaced by days at home and in the studio in cold st. petersburg. at the same time the music itself goes through a very personal development from outgoing moments to parts of personal reflection. without adding too much weight or philosophy to the music, the album is an easy and natural listening experience that explores contrasting and at times contradicting themes between summer and winter, cold and warm, introverted and extroverted and many layers in between, while also harmonizing the musical past, present and future of nuage.

this june session victim return to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album.listen to your heartis the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lpsee you when you get there. here we present the first of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew. bring it back gets things rolling with session victim’s trademark live drum breaks, looped up pads and hooky vocal samples. only good vibes here, with uplifting keys bringing a warm and soulful edge whilst shimmering juno notes add a floaty element to get lost in. next up we have if we can make it here, the title being something of an in-joke with the boys when they find themselves in the more remote or far-flung corners of the world performing their music to an appreciating crowd. the track is based around a simple yet beautiful 4-bar chord progression repeating throughout and shows svm in a playful and jazzy mood, managing to include soloing flute and marching snare drum rhythms without as much of a flinch!moons and flowers is up next, another sublime slice of hazy house music with a wonderful organic and live sound palette. echoing rhodes licks join dubby synth fx, adding waves of colour whilst the gentle vocal provides the icing on the space-cake. lastly we have the hatch, which winds things down somewhat for a lovely, somewhat stoned interlude track which is over all too soon. an impeccable demonstration of retro-inspired yet forward thinking house,listen to your heartsees session victim at the top of their game.

it’s hard to imagine being at the cutting edge of electronic dance music for over three decades, and never resorting to cliché or tired gimmicks in order to create unique and forward thinking music, but matthew herbert is still channelling original and thought provoking ideas into his projects all these years later. via his accidental record label, he has always excelled at left of centre productions, and through a variety of genre aliases (including doctor rockit, wishmountain and the matthew herbert big band), his imagination has always run wild, resulting in an infectious catalogue of music over the years. “brand new love-, featuring the vocals of rising star, zilla, finds herbert creating a dense and dramatic bass heavy cut. a steppers beat, utilizing herbert’s trademark sampling techniques, it’s a killer cut with sweeping cinematic qualities that sounds head and shoulders ahead of the rest. special request, the jungle heavy arm of paul woolford’s many recording talents, is enlisted to put his breakbeat spin on the original, and turns in an absolutely lethal version, choppy breaks, spinbacks and booming subs come with intent, whilst a sumptuous string arrangement accompanies zilla’s vocal for a truly uplifting spirit. “the peacock-, with its loose beats and opaque stabs, rolls along with its industrial undertones and ravey motif, discordant at times but a truly hypnotizing but in the finest of side b1 traditions. bringing up the rear, “cheekbone” is frenetic and charging micro tribal rave (a new genre classification right there), a glorious medley of percussion, earworm synths and guillotined vocal samples, showing just why matthew herbert is as vital an artist now as he has ever been.

nachtzug delivers captivating acid grooves over an analogue trackbed of i.d.m. elegancy. leipzigs possblthings records which is linked to the possblthings store are doing a stellar job after their first strong release by robyrt hecht. this 2nd release is guaranteed to warm your hardware-driven hearts with its multifaceted tracks from uplifting braindance to spaced-out electro. fans of dmx krew, mnlth, cpu records and the likes are in for a treat!

spencer parker concludes his different shapes and sizes series with a pair of robust house numbers this april. parker conceived the series as a method of showcasing his love for different shades of house and techno and the final edition sees the work them records founder demonstrate his versatility once again. part three initiates with a thumping dancefloor workout titled riff shapes that incorporates an uplifting chord sequence and crunchy percussion. on the flip, size:yes sees a throbbing lowend join skipping drums as rave inspired stabs add to the track s commanding energy.

“devotion - part 3” is the final stage of the journey into the author’s sonic environment. the pace is initially fast and energetic, with “anathema” and “prostration” exploring different areas of the frequency spectrum through mysterious yet functional techno arrangements, which then lead us to the closing track of this whole excursion, “critical devotion”, a slow-motion uplifting anthem that brings us back to the surface.

the first release from new vinyl only label cherub records. the ‘figure of state’ ep features four tracks: two original cuts from london upstart william earl in analogue work out mode. doppelate’s remix of the ‘figure of state’ on the a-side is an down-tempo, atmospheric trip whilst pépe’s remix of ‘stokey waltz’ takes us into blissfully uplifting, arpeggiated territory.

side a of this white vinyl consists of one original mix - sub constienta - with an uplifting baseline, with industrial background textures complete with mesmerizing synths that make your body vibrate to the groove.
on side b, swing altfel is a track that tells the story differently, taking the listener on a long journey thru the sound. just like the exquisite painting of painter leonid afremov, the track it self has many sounds combining one on top of the other in a progressive release of the right amount of joyful vibe, with passages and percussions mixed with tweaked vocals, giving this track the perfect rithm.

nice price deal !!! airhead continues to impress and confound with his run of releases on r&s. his last release >wait/south congress< found itself gaining praise right across the board. it showcased his atmospheric guitar styles as well as his deft programming skills, resulting in some trying to pigeon-hole his sound in a post rock/electronica direction. this ep proves it not that easy to pin him down with two new tracks of fresh club music. pyramid lake again showcases his expert manipulation of samples, but this time weaves them into a drunken dance groove, full of whirring percussion and heavy bass. black ink is a bubbling, percussive roller that in the hands of a lesser producer would sound like a traincrash. it bounces along almost out of control and sucks you into its charms until it hits you with some uplifting, haunted chords, at which point it is impossible to resist.

rotterdam based 25 places are back on dirt crew with a bang! since their love more release in 2015 the boys have been hard at work and have just released an ep for chez damier on his prescription records sub label balance. the bounce begins with party in the hills hosting a huge kick, loopy rhodes, squelching bass, ragga flavoured vocal and squeaky lead, its straight up good times right from the get go. an infectious groove on this one! closing title song heads into deep soaring territory, its forward house beat and pulsing synth lead intertwine with loose tropical percussion and a rhapsodic horn hook. on the flip we have laurence guy who does not really need an introduction anymore, the man has been all over the place since this years releases on cin cin, outplay and the imminent church where he dropped two big eps bamboo and kojak. here he takes on the soulful deep chicago house of 25 places and turns it into a 90s breakbeat acid galore of ecstasy tingled uk house. 25 places wrap up the rave session with backyard stories, a raw and bouncing, bass face inducing jam. uplifting and dirty in one stroke, its thumping kick and feverous melodies make it impossible not to move.

having made his label introduction with his remix of label newcomer villete’s “rillia-, darand land gets to spread out and show off his unique brand of euphoric and uplifting deep house on his debut ep for the label, ‘discover you’. the title track is classic darand land, with bright piano chords, buzzing organs and a thick chicago house bass line. siren-like pads fade in and out from the periphery, as electrifying percussion elements come into play. frank & tony take a turn and apply their signature style onto the former track, adding a chunkier kick with bright as day claps and hi-hats to propel the track through the opalescent haze draped over the melodic elements. on the flip, “marcela’s sense” is a blissed out, head down late night affair. cosmic pads swirl around glistening keys and repressed organ chords, as toms bounce among the steady hi-hat ride, lulling the listener into a state of euphoria. the ep closes out with the atmospheric, peak time detroit house cut, “souls awash-. a serpentine bass line runs the show amidst swelling pads and in-your-face kicks and percussion. as with all of his productions, the track shines in the smaller details that float in and out of focus throughout, lending the track’s weightier elements an even greater sense of gravitas.
