fantastic limited reissue of this amazing self-titled afro-funk lp from ghanaian singing and percussion star sidiku buari. originally released in 1975, this super-rare album features an all-star cast of top funk instrumentalists playing alongside buari and boy does it show! blending heavy african rhythms with funky disco grooves, the arrangements and the playing are incredibly tight and the album is chock-full of killer tracks including advice from father (sampled by everyone from kenny dope to groove armada) and ku ka maria with its intense funky breaks and awesome drumming from legend bernard ‘pretty’ purdie, which made these tracks huge on the b-boy/breaking scene also. other stand-out tracks include the wonderful disco-tinged afro monsters karam bani and iro le pa plus the cool laidback groove of them yebtheget. top class!

the production duo of dual process, aka dj java and dj ben j, have been in the drum & bass scene since before it was being called the drum & bass scene. initially as ravers, then djs, and now as producers, they have been witness to the progression of the various sub genres that are now present in todays spectrum of drum & bass music. after releases individually and collectively on several different labels dual process are ready to launch their own label aimed at the particular sub genre that they have successfully played in raves, clubs and on radio for the last few years. straight up, dance floor, jump up is whats going to be on offer from audio hostage records, and to kick things off we have two heavy slices of face churning, bass ridden, ignorance capable of setting mcs to self destruct and levelling any sound system. both tracks are getting heavy support from a range of djs and radio stations such as, hype, crissy criss, taxman, nicky black market, brockie, ss, jack frost, ash attack, hoodlum, logan d, profile, pappa g, vital elements, spice, origin fm and kool fm.

reissue - cass mccombs, singer-songwriter born in northern california in 1977 and currently residing somewhere in that state, is set to release wit’s end, his fifth-and-a-half album and third on domino, on april 11th. the result of two years recording in various homes and studios in california, new york, new jersey and chicago, wit’s end was produced by cass with ariel rechtshaid, with whom he also created catacombs.sounds that conjure the colors purple and black, this is his darkest record to date. it seems he is going deeper into the mania of a man buried alive inside his self-made catacombs, banging the stone walls, crying to be let out, and enjoying the quiet away from the outside world. however, he is not a man afraid of his own shadow, for in this environment of complete darkness, no shadows can be cast. this is a world of total feeling. here, words become a catalyst away from the slavery of arbitrary thought and toward feeling.
