absence seizure marks its tenth release this september, a split package comprising one original from co-founder abe duque and two from label-founder matuss. since its launch back in 2015 the new york city based absence seizure imprint, launched by abe duque and matuss has been a platform for the latters original material and across the past nine releases and picked up support from the likes of young male, sage caswell, dorian paic and eduardo de la calle amongst others. here though we see co-founder abe duque join the part to mark the labels tenth vinyl release alongside label regular julia matuss. matuss steps up with crashing hard a murky, stripped-back number fuelled by choppy bass stabs, minimal percussive bleeps and airy atmospherics . next on the package is abe duques 11-27-2016, a typically raw affair from the new york techno veteran fuelled by squelching 303 lines, robust analogue drums and dreamy arpeggios. the b side features matuss sisabuc fresh closes out the package, stripping things back even further to minute, shuffled percussion, stuttering ethereal chords and permeating sub hits which all flow in unison across its ten minute duration.

robotron is the machine formerly known as xinner. this is its first offering for the esp institute. side as dream resonator is an idiosyncratic network dexterous machine drum/percussion programming, an ebb and flow of floating arpeggios, syncopated counter-melodies and a hail of stabbing stringscontinually diffusing into ethereal vapor all stacked into an (aptly-named) orchestral anthem. side bs ice takes a similar approach with arrangement, each instrument carving out its place in the tracks mechanics for a glorious convergence of patterns, but, where side a proves optimistic, here we sense a more menacing undercurrent, an austerity powerfully articulated through towering kicks and claps so compressed they fill up every dark corner of negative space. indeed, robotron has an innate command for building and calibrating robust systems, but beneath this calculated veil we find the remnant human behavior of xinner. these two songs will whisper loudly but scream quietly.

e-missions co-founder p.leone returns to radio slaves rekids this september with the my lita project backed with remixes from mark broom. originally hailing from new york, p.leone now resides in berlin where he helms his e-missions imprint with releases from himself and co-founder caiazzo, exciting new artists like rush plus and tred, not to mention remixes from young male, spencer parker and lawrence lee. leone has also dropped a variety of releases on rekids and work them records, when not making regular appearances at clubs like tresor. he now returns to radio slaves respected imprint with ‘the my lita project, following up his highly lauded el dorado ep that garnered support from ben sims, jackmaster and spencer parker. my lita kicks things off with classic synths, piercing strings and choppy vocals slices whilst robust drums march forward. meanwhile, tight in the pocket is more dark and menacing in comparison with its syncopated percussion, echoing claps and ethereal atmospherics. on the flip, mark broom drops two different remixes of my lita the first is a robust cut complete with disco elements like funky guitar licks and soulful voice, with the originals stabs shining throughout, whilst the second remix takes a different route with its crunchy snares, moaning murmurs and fuzzy effects.

the last essential outing of 2017 for the play it say it label is from legendary dj and producer harry romero. globally acclaimed and recognised star harry romero has been a driving force in the scene since the 90s. he’s released on such seminal labels as sex mania, power music and strictly rhythm, but also contemporary imprints like ovum and defected. never far from the dance charts and an inductee into pete tong s hall of fame, harry’s own bambossa records is another fine chapter in his definitive story. here he shows off his current sound across three fresh tracks. opening up the ep is the arresting ‘mother earth,’ a percussive and tribal number with pinging kicks and loose hits all encouraging you to cut shapes. bright synths rise up through the mix to bring some tension and drama and crowds are certain to react with hands in the air. the masterfully mangled ‘lesson on swing’ is a vibrant brew of skewed synths and surging bass, vocal yelps and wonky chords that will freak out any floor. it’s another robust and full fat tune from the studio of harry romero. last of all is ‘scatter’, a high-pressure tune with characteristically big drums and fat bass all overlaid with vocal effects that build the intensity. hooky little synth motifs and metallic percussion all add to the steaminess and ensure this a huge anthem in the making. this is a top trio of tunes that are imbued with all the knowledge and know how of a real house legend

copenhagens echocord colour returns this mid november with brendom moellers magic city ep, featuring four originals from the new york based artist. brendon moeller has long been a purveyor of authentic dub-infused techno since stepping onto the scene via his 2006 sweetspot / humpback ep via echocord and has since gone on to release on reputable imprints such as third ear, kimochi sound, delsin’s ann aimee, mule musiq and of course his very own steadfast. here though moeller makes a welcome return to where it all began with some fresh material for echocords colour sub- label. caravan takes the lead on the release and in typical brendon moeller fashion were treated to densely layered dub chords, throbbing subs and expansive atmospherics whilst robust drums drive the composition along. magic city’ follows and ups the energy levels even further with pounding industrial drums layered underneath billowing dub stabs and eerie drones. ‘magic city in dub’ follows and as the name suggests offers up a reduced take on the composition, dropping the tempo and shining light on the billowing echoes of the original whilst stirring in some off-kilter rhythsm and additional processing for good measure. lastly,departure closes the package, with haunting synth drones, bumpy rhythms and murky vocals wandering throughout the seven-minute composition

following on from 2016’s excellent “birsk” single on futureboogie, philipp lauer returns to the label with a new three track single. the “las brisas” ep kick starts with the mechanical funk of “pile”, acidic notes drip over heavy ebm drums whilst a hovering ‘resse’ style bassline dominates, the influence of early house and industrial dance are ever present here on this belter of a track from the tuff city kids and talamanca system player.
more acid pressure can be found on “clipper”, a blazing and dynamic slice of anthemic balearic dance. searing pads and lustrous melodies pour over the robust drum machine workout, that’ll have dancers reaching for the skies! real stirring stuff from lauer, which continues with closing track “tyco”. ricocheting stabs and cowbell hits bounce off a sturdy kick drum as the track flourishes with more on-point melodies and a snaking bass. dripping with emotive refrains, lauer brings his very best to the table here, and rounds off an ep that’s most definitely all killer and no filler!

visionquest special edition returns this september with sakro s supersymmetry ep. edgardo alonso aka mexican producer and dj sakro has been rising up the ranks over the past few years with his raw, stripped-back approach to house seeing him release material with revered imprints in the field such as raum...musik, housewax, karlovak and fathers & sons. here we see the sakro joining the roster of visionquest offshoot special edition, the vinyl only imprint home to material from ricardo villalobos, craig richards, wareika and konrad black amongst others. up first on the package is lusyd , a shuffling percussion fuelled number featuring swinging snares, murky atmospheric pads and choppy sub bass hits at its core. jazz in mars follows embracing robust rhythms and an amalgamation of jazzy sample snippets alongside resonant synth swells to create a sturdy peak time workout. voices opens the b-side of the release with heavily swung drums, smooth ethereal chords and lumpy sub frequencies while a dark and brooding vocal ebbs and flows throughout the composition. title-cut supersymmetry then closes out the release with an energetic rhythmic drive, intricately modulating synth flutters and snaking pad lines.

following a big ep from richy ahmed, play it say it returns with a talented collaboration in the form of mark fanciulli and rob cockerton, with honey dijon on the remix. mark fanciulli has carved out his own sound that takes the best of house and techno, turning in his own infectious releases on the likes of joris voorn’s rejected, as well as the legendary planet e and intec. long time friend and collaborator rob cockerton joins fanciulli, who’s own credits lead to labels including suara and snatch!, and together the duo cook up a storm here. ‘slave to the rave’ is the fantastic opening cut and is a real party starter with an old school feel. acid stabs bring raw energy alongside chattery claps straight from chicago in the 80’s, whilst the whole production is bolstered by slick drum programming that won’t fail to work crowds into a frenzy. the excellent ’10 channels of bliss’ is equally massive, with robust kick drums down low and huge incendiary hi-hats up top. swaying claps and rolling bass all help lure you in and shape shifting synths bring all that important looseness and colour. next up, classic music company artist and new york tastemaker honey dijon steps up to remix ‘slave to the rave’. her version is dark and intense, with an unbridled sense of frantic raves bottled up in the train-track grooves and the cleverly filtered vocals, this is a powerful ep of high class, high impact dance music.

nice price deal !!! yore proudly adds detroits drivetrain to the stable. drivetrains the nom de plume for derrick thompson, a dj and producer who heads up soiree records international, a label with a strong soulful house focus, who has been around since detroits early days. with over 50 releases on his back, from beatdown sessions to numerous remixes & collaborations, you can tell that >drivetrain< has a soft spot in his heart for the rich production values of 70s philly soul associated with producers such as gamble & huff and thom bell. that kinship comes through loud and clear in the eps second cut, >the rain<, when thompson sweetens the tunes brisk rhythms with triangle, electric piano, alto sax, flute, acoustic bass and a gravelly >make love (in the rain)< command that sounds like its oozing from the lips of a tasty dj. >the rain< is trumped by the a-sides >angel (serenity mix)<, which opens with a sinuous house thrust and then heats up with a tight, jacking groove that thompson soulfully embellishes with synthesizer flourishes and a smooth vocal refrain of the songs title. the vibe is lush and soulful in the extreme, with the vocals alternating between a soft murmur and robust declamation while the percolating, dub-inflected house pulse pushes determinedly forward underneath. the ep ends with the title track, >tragedy park<, which is closer in spirit to a stomping techno raver thats had a smidgen of acid thrown in for extra flavour. definitely a floor shaking bomb

new york s p. leone is back with the second release on his newly launched e-missions imprint featuring work them records founder spencer parker on remix duties. born and raised in brooklyn, where he discovered the legendary storm rave parties run by frankie bones and adam x, p. leone cut his teeth djing in the lower east side of manhattan before making techno himself. before long the producer dropped his first two releases on work them records, joining a roster spanning radio slave, spencer parker, young male, anetha and physical therapy. e-missions was then launched in early 2017, acting as a platform for co-founders p. leone and caiazzo with more exciting artists soon to be announced. discipline signals is dark and robust from start to finish, with functions of discipline 1 inaugurating the package with resonating kicks, trippy elements and industrial synths. functions of discipline 2 follows a similar aesthetic but heads into a deeper direction with its cavernous atmospherics and glitch inspired effects, making way for laced with its sinister drones and tantalising melodies. spencer parker then remixes laced , concluding matters with rugged drums, energetic hi-hats and a rumbling low-end.

copenhagen’s echocord colour returns this august with stephen brown’s ‘power factor’ ep, featuring three originals from the uk techno stalwart. scottish producer stephen brown is a name synonymous with techno across the globe having been releasing material since the mid nineties on imprints such as derrick may’s transmat, subject detroit, skudge records, ben sims’ theory and holland’s djax up beats amongst many more. here we see brown join the roster of echocord’s sub-label colour, slotting him in alongside the likes of mike dehnert, nick ho&#776,,,ppner, luke hess and deadbeat in the back- catalogue. up first on the release is ‘sandtext’, a stripped-back dubbed out opening cut fuelled by a robust kick and minute percussive hits running alongside a sturdy sub bass drive and spiralling dub stabs before ‘wet’ takes things even deeper via muted kicks, shuffling shakers and delayed synth chords. ‘back stroke’ then rounds out the release with an amalgamation of airy reverberated stab hits, rumbling low end pulsations and a thunderous kick drum to once again create an understated, hypnotic composition.

hottrax boss jamie jones teams up with nathan barato for a pair of killer cuts entitled cherrys revenge. nathan barato has been a staple on jamie jones hot creations imprint and paradise events ever since gracing both of them in 2014. reflecting on recent releases via saved records and cajual, the toronto native has continued rolling out releases in fine form, and his global gig schedule reflects his candescent reputation. on the other hand, jamie jones has been helming his multiple successful labels when not releasing on kerri chandler’s kaoz theory and dusky’s 17 steps, continuing to cement his name as one of the world’s most illustrious djs, producers and label owners. composed of intricate percussion and sporadic synth stabs, ‘cherry’s revenge’ sees jones and barato in fine form. the dancefloor focused roller blends rumbling bass and robust snares with chopped vox samples and whirling police sirens, forming a production destined to inject life into any situation. on the flip, cheating chester samples a sunset boulevard working girl discovering the cheating exploits of her pimp boyfriend and mashes it with mesmerising effects, tight hats, a purring baseline and distorted synths.

london-based producer cera alba pairs up with vocalist zahra for a pair of tough tracks on jamie jones’ hottrax this june featuring a remix from stockholms tiger stripes. since his humble beginnings several years ago the newcastle-born artist has cemented a reputation for consistency, with releases appearing on the likes of hot creations, moon harbour, viva music, avotre, madtech and gruuv. as a dj he’s been making regular appearances across europe, including venues such as watergate berlin, sankeys ibiza, brixton academy london, not to mention festivals such as hideout. taking over me is a dark and moody roller from the get-go. robust drums and mesmerizing atmospherics form its basis whilst zahras soulful vocals and a cavernous low-end rumbles throughout to its rhythm as a piercing vocal and metallic elements ebb in and out of the mix. tiger stripes then provides a crunchy remix of taking over me, distorting zahras vocals whilst incorporating tantalizing synths into his own stomping rendition.

this june will see bondage music release part two of it’s ‘home (remixes)’ package, welcoming an array of artists to remix mihai popoviciu’s recent long player on the label. following on from part 1 of the package which has already garnered support from the likes of huxley, neverdogs, emanuel satie and mat.joe to name but a few, bondage music returns with the second offering in this four part series. tuccillo takes the lead with his interpretation of ‘focus’, and as always from the ibiza-based unblock music founder we’re treated to intricately programmed, smooth and hypnotic material laid out over seven and a half minutes with a deftly unfolding dynamic feel. el mundo’s take on ‘triumph’ follows, dropping the tempo and instilling a latin edge to things via organic percussion, emotive strings and mystical vocals. frankfurt’s sascha dive then offers up his ‘atmospheric dub’ of ‘music 999’ to open the flip side, as the name would suggest shining light on billowing dub stabs, ethereal atmospheres and robust rhythms before kevin yost closes the package with his percussive driven ‘hynposia’ remix. the mihai popoviciu ‘home (remixes) part 2’ is out on bondage-music 9th june 2017

ismael s addition to the nous camp is an impressively expansive account of contemporary electronic club music, with one foot firmly planted in a robust and ripe understanding of its roots in gritty us electro funk and proto house, alongside the industrial machine music exemplified by the first wave, while the other foot finds itself skating around a future reticulation, informed emphatically by the hardcore continuum and all of its awesome sonic artillery, while infused with the rhythm and grime of now.

the aula magna team presents the label s tenth release, rom by seph, featuring cosmin trg as remixer. a modern and energetic ep that showcases the artist’s unique techno sound: deep, robust & daring.
lead track rom kicks off the record in breakbeat manner, an epic cut that twists its sounds progressively through distorted percussive and melodic riffs. this is followed by cosmin trg’s tribal take on the title track, a mind-dazzling and hypnotic reinterpretation.
two techno highlights from seph’s latest live sets thrust the b side even further into the dance floor. inner warps its solid rhythmic core through swirling dub noise mayhem and p+1 ends the record with a steady synth chord that evolves throughout the track on top of a powerful, stripped down beat.

following on from the very robust debut of his own label failsafe, juxta position deviates back to the more melancholic aesthetic with which he initially made his mark back in 2013 on mistress recordings. drawing palpable influence from ambient electronica like boards of canada, he then reframes the aesthetic, with the help of rhythmic anchoring, on the 12 minute opening opus eureka. however, not to disappoint lovers of the slightly harder, more uptempo, electronic beat, the flip then dishes up two significantly more pressurised techno pieces, the former made in belgrade more linear, the latter reimagined more flamboyant.
