forging a distinctive sound in todays crowded techno landscape is no easy task. madrid based mario campos aka kwartz has grown his robust, propulsive sound into one of the most interesting and vital strains of modern techno. after notable releases for mord, warm up, pole recordings, and his own label ‘order & devotion’, we are excited to present a 6 track kwartz offering for horo.
purists will have their desires satiated with the driving, undulating title track and dancefloor favourite ’altered states of consciousness’ while the rest of the ep sees mario take his style into exploration mode. ‘beyond belief’ functions as an emotive centre point to the releases’ varied moods, while the off kilter static of ‘over a sign recognition’ and the writhing bounce of ‘recoil’ and ’frame dislocation’ complete the carefully sculpted form of the release.
‘body sedation’ works in a listening environment as well as it does on an open minded dance floor, and we can confidently say, it’s built to last.
guttural, pained screams from beyond converge with mangled corrosive rhythms on the sophomore ep from dint for horo. ‘hooker’ convenes an impromptu post punk band out of undead skeletal pulses and spits a frustrated barb to anyone in earshot. ’shovel’ slams nails in relentlessly with an excruciating vocal refrain grinding over the band of zombies undulating bass riff, decaying as it loops. ’skewer’ drags the undead to the dance-floor with a primitive rhythm that rises and ducks, wringing out the intensity with macabre vocal commands reaching through a wall of distortion.
parisian producer brice groulier has built a reputation as one of the new guard of techno artists to watch closely with consistently high quality sub aquatic, rhythm shifting techno for labels like semantica, midgar, planet rhythm, and modularz. while looking for music that integrated with our grey area releases, we found ourselves blending more von grall tunes than any other artist, so a horo release was requested. what originally began as a 4 track ep bloomed into an 8 track debut album that sees von grall expand his style beyond the muscular but hazy rhythmic mist he has become known for. the title track infinitum opens the lp like a contemplative bubble. hyper density and inside are pensive, evocative jogs, while emerald city and disturbance ramp up the energy and will be the most favoured floor tunes from infinitum. antonym allegory combines the von grall rhythmic bounce with an emotive pad that will echo in your mind long after listening. motel closes the lp with a quirky, almost joyful flow. infinitum wanders confidently into new ground for von grall and cements him as a versatile and singular voice in techno.
vices is the first ever record from separation anxiety, continuing the horo quest to expose the untouched underbelly of electronic music. separation anxiety mixes gothic tinged ambience with metallic beats and contained distortion.
early support from samuel kerridge, ancestral voices, pact infernal, grebenstein, sam kdc.

grebenstein is a producer, dj and visual artist living in kassel, germany. after playing in several bands as a drummer and guitarist he made his solo-debut with a 4-track ep on the regis helmed label downwards records in november 2014. the gloss 4 track ep for horo comes after his downwards records follow up strong, proud, stupid, & superior with seefried was released in october 2016. title track gloss centres on percussive crescendos and pensive guitar layers, while self and its version stretch this effect out into a grinding, slow motion introspection. loss closes the ep with serrated drum machine blasts punctuating feedback contortions. the tension throughout the ep is palpable, with the shaping of the tension providing the substance of his signature style. non club tracks for open minded clubs.
