rekids have teamed up with detroits fit distribution and enlisted the services of motor city locals marcellus pittman and urban tribe to put the 313 sound on *working* and *taxi talk*. on the former, marcellus pittman lays down his trademark blend of mechanical yet jerky old-skool drum machine rhythms and disorientingly dissonant, tripped-out synth chords – creating a somewhat eerie atmosphere that evokes images of detroits manufacturing plants of yesteryear. on the flipside, urban tribe transform *taxi talk* into a big room monster, using rumbling synth bass, electronic bleeps and laser gun snares to transport us back in time to a dark and hazy 90s warehouse rave.

these redux releases are like buses, we dont hear anything for ages then they hit us with three killer eps in a row. following the grand corporation and machete savane comes the return of phoreski. we have not heard much from phoreski for a little while, but you will soon hear why when you put the needle to the record on these two new tracks. he has been busily building up his studio into an enviable aladdins den of vintage kit, wires and analogue recording equipment. all synths and vocals you hear on these tracks come from phoreski, no samples, no guests, no edits. he has been hinting at this raw, analogue authentic sound for a while, but these tracks showcase a producer at one with the machines. >brown biscuits< comes across like some lost italo/cosmic gem, but via the north east of england rather than the lakes of italy. >machines< flexes tight proto-house rhythms with some bass that will make mince meat of lesser club soundsystems whilst the feuding synth lines fight for attention. this is proper body music, play loud!

a dark, apocalyptic follow up from the enigmatic talismann 1. fierce hypnotic drone techno from the highest order as opening side of the ep to darker mad max style tribalish rhythms on the flip. recommended!

boris bunnik goes under many aliases. numerous smaller projects, some huge faceless projects but mostly known and well respected for his conforce project. as versalife he found his way to the clone familia for his night time activities project, and around this same period we just managed to pull out the best suitable tracks for frustrated funk. versalife is electro-techno in its purest form. deep and intense analog rhythms with crisp percussion patterns slightly touching the more experimental side of things. this ep is a nice balanced mixture of industrial drone material to more classic sounding electro with versalifes own signature strength. highly recommended as always!

the >just for fun< ep starts with the title track just4fun, which in fact breathes fun and doesnt take itself too seriously. the funky and highly infectious keys and the butt shaking groove will remind you of a track that moodymann never made, but wishes he had. next comes unlimited01 with a joyful piano melody that would fit right into a french disco with a funkier version of alain delon behind the decks. still, the rhodes chords, the slow sexy groove, the vocal hooks will get you moving in no time. thang then goes into a more detroit beatdown direction with its deep chords and smooth pads. it creates a mellow atmosphere with an almost relaxed summer feeling. this is what a funky pimp would listen to on a night car drive. the ep ends with spiritual almost tribal rhythms. inspiration would be a nice soundtrack to a 70s orgy orchestrated by a groovy guru, surrounded by a magical circle of mystical dancers. over the top? sure, but the track would certainly get this party going.

wars/when i feel is juk juks third 12 release for nommos lead tune wars is pure winter melancholy driven by dark rhythms and brooding basslines, occasionally broken down with celestial synths. slick, enigmatic and moody, a hard one to pin down but easy to get lost in. in contrast when i feel is an irresistible piece of minimal garage house. big kicks and crisp highs are punctuated with reversed strings. all this is scattered with juk juks signature vocal manipulations.

following the great reception of hiverned 01 here is the second installment of hiverns edit series. in the a side, tbs >invitation to love<, a highly anticipated track that is finally released after becoming a fixture in john talabots sets. based on twin peaks osts >laura palmers theme<, the track rephrases angelo badalamentis clas- sic from an acid house perspective. adding analog rhythms and a crispy bassli- ne to the ethereal chords of the original composition, this refix manages to keep the dream-like atmospheres of the song while transforming it into dancefloor- ready groove. the idea is simple, the results are magic. on the flip, marc pinol repeats appearance on the series revamping some lost australian minimal-wave track. in the vein of his previous >wheels< edit, the track conjures gloomy atmospheres and sparse rhythms with gritty synth melodies. on the top of it, the barcelonian producer adds dialogues from spanish cult art-house film >arrebato< (hence the title) multiplying the obscure ambience of the tune. once again, the release comes in a limited edition 10 inch wrapped in a handmade silk-screened sleeve. no digital and no-repress.

so you didnt get that last firecracker that came in an incredible sleeve and was limited to 45 copies? well now you and the other 99% of humanity can at least own the music contained within it with this regular re-release, and to be honest although the sleeve isnt hand-weaved by a peruvian tribe centuries known for their mastery of textile craft, the one yer getting here is pretty goddamn sweet. bringing together calypso rhythms and bernie worrell-does-acid lines, fudge fingas >untytled< is an exemplary example of why everyone is in admiration of the geezer, and that is because he can actually make actual music, with compositions and melody and all that. excuse the lofty jargon. linkwood bring equal heat in the form of >secret value<, but guess what? fudge fingas has gone and blessed it with the refreshing audio equivalent of yer girlfriends mint & tea tree shower gel, adding liquid bass and lush keys. the fingas finishes off the e.p with one of his most interesting tracks to date >minus 616<, a dense, immersive piano piece that proves that getting this e.p out to a wider audience was just simply a righteous and necessary move. take that skinny tie off, wrap it round yer arm and mainline that uncut funk, baby.

after their sure-fire succession of great releases dam swindle end up on the excellent freerange imprint. and if you like the words deep along with atmospheric then this will most definitely appeal to you. from the opening title track with its lush, moody nu-groove styled pads and thunderous hand-claps these three productions simply ooze class and intensity in abundance. next is >gotta know< which rewinds back to classic house sounds and injects a sense of melody into the already swinging rhythms and punchy, detroit bass. which is then followed by >brotherman< and yet more in-depth moods, this time accompanied by jazzy, scat styled vocals for added diversity. finally we have wolf music main man krl stepping up to remix brotherman and a rather sterling job he does to. making great use of the vocal krl brings us a slowed down version with his trademark shuffling drums and a dynamic arrangement. piano stabs and a cheeky boogie synth sample all help bring his own sound to the track and round off the package perfectly.

craig mcwhinney is a melbourne based dj, producer and live artist. beginning his techno explorations behind the decks in 2000, his transition to the studio has been swift and fruitful. a string of releases on his own label haul music which he co-founded in 2008 with friends mike callander and christian vance, are now being backed up with remixes and eps for speedy js electric deluxe, and brendon moellers steadfast records. drawing upon his wealth of djing experience, he crosses the boundaries of dub infused techno and house with precision and intent, blurring the line between dance floor dynamics, home listening, experimentation and sound design. he is also collaborating with mike callander as haul music live, fusing craigs rhythms with mikes soundscapes to create unique dance floor interpretations of their individual sound experimentations. wild coast is a low-slung filthy minimal romp that possesses as much primal energy as it does futuristic funk. bassbins and heads are likely to be blown by this demented puppy. echologist keeps things lofi, hypnotic and subby.

before the release of his debut album on ki, monokle throws in an ep to show us what to expect. the beautiful track >swan< pretty much describes perfectly what monokle means when he says that simple rhythms and catchy beats get him bored quickly. being influenced by the music of the british imprint warp for example, the sankt petersburg based artist has pretty much developed his own interpretation of well, what should it be called? it is monokle! he has his very own aesthetic approach to music and has a very fine hand for sublime melodies and atmospheres. on the b side he teams up with his friend and partner milinal. >swan< gets a proper retouch by daisuke tanabe, who shares monokles deep soundscapes and is just the right member of the ki family to get his hands on this ep.

young marco made a big impression to a new lot of listeners at the beginning of 2012 with his esp institute debut, nonono / darwin in bahia (played by dixon and james murphy amongst others). the young man from amsterdam now returns with a sister 12inch to his nonono, a perfectly complimentary piece of wax that maintains his esoteric stance on house music, and proves that hes no one-trick pony. video days blends marcos signature analog synth work with tribal rhythms and a loose sense of narrative, while the flipside later than u think takes a more cheeky approach, pairing a blissfully stabbing core melody with a mousey counter-melody and setting it all over some huge tom-heavy drum programming. these songs are the perfect close to a beautiful summer, whether youre lost in euphoria as the sun comes up, or simply dancing around your kitchen in the nude.
