powder is a young producer raised in rural japan, now living in tokyo. she wakes daily at 6am, squeezes onto a packed subway and commutes to a bland office building where her day is consumed by the electronics industry — a banal world of blank stares, uniforms, data entry and soliciting phone calls. she cherishes her lunch break, a solitary hour of astral projection where her daydreams cull inspiration for another life, her nocturnal routine. at 9pm the day closes, as her co-workers flock to the izakaya for beers, powder rushes to her micro home-studio to exorcize her daily demons, constructing a tropical temple to house her immaculate vision. she slaves away, unabashed until sunrise, when her routine begins again, however, todays lunch break is an escape into her headphones where she will revisit her soundtrack inspired by lights, colors, hometown memories, and the imaginary worlds where the fruits of her labour will live.

one of the most respected producers in the underground, anaxander, contributes two beautiful pieces of original music, and has one of them reworked by deep house heavy hitter, the mighty amir alexander. lost my soul (in yours) is twisted little number, with dual synth riffs echoing off each other for maximum effect. a question about you uses jazzy chords and flutes over its undeniable bassline to retain some soulful flavoring, but amir strips all of that away on his interpretation, preffering instead to let the acid and the warehouse vibes have their way, taking things right into a 6am rave nightmare. this is absolute must-have piece of wax!

white asega co-­owner jack dixon wrote new curtains after a friend who was coming wildly off the rails told him he was a good producer but his tunes were boring. the original version was really sparse and about 300bpm. when jack moved to new york the parts got lost, so he remade the track a dozen times. this was the version we all liked best, although jack never wants to hear it again in his life. it sounds tough and tropical. our friend troy gunner remixed it, and turned it into something so loud and slamming it will knock your teeth out. after telling jack to stop making boring music, mark kodiak spent two horrendous years working with jamie kodiak on a song they ve called taargus. it nearly destroyed their friendship forever but we think it was worth it. it has brutal weapon sounds, nasty snares and an incessant “yo” that has been described as “annoying and unnecessary”. the artist tom pounder has created a blinding video for it that contains brand new colours. french born bass genius bambounou stepped up to remix the track, taming the wild stems into a hypnotic early­morning house stepper. it took us approximately 2000 exhausting facebook group chats, four cross­atlantic flights and one divorce to get to this point. we hope you will enjoy this record for the rest of your lives. rip ken tulley.
