having checked our records, its been a few years since the shelves at juno were graced with some music from the studio of italian dub techno exponent fabio scalabroni, so the arrival of a new 12inch brandishing his work is cause for celebration. the rohs! records label operated by belgium-dwelling compatriot andrea porcu is who we can thank for coaxing some new cuts out of scalabroni with the roots ep suggesting he s lost none of his production verve. root a will appeal to fans of the punchier tracks from the giegling discography whilst the b side track has a real slinky vibe to the groove that really gets in your head and stays there

berlin-based roundqubemusik welcomes cristopher ledger (the code studio, berlin) with seventh orphism ep which includes three original tracks plus a remix from gabriele carasco & francesco passantino. judging by the vastly different set of sounds used here, from the elegance of the piano to the hypnotism and abstractism of the synths mostly due to experiments with modular synthesis. seventh orphism is an ep which marks out ledger as a very good artist to watch out for.

latest wicked bass instalment comes from lost 1990s tapes of an underground estonian production group, hupnosaurus. side a opens with muru, a simple ballad with its stripped kicks and funky string bass that gradually reach a lo-fi acidic house condition with psychedelic swirls appearing every now and then. bookworms provides a remix treatment with thick, multi-layered overdriven & looped madness that strips the original to a simple bassline and occasional industrial stabs. on side b, always in n out starts out as unorthodox blend of a classic techno kick and speed garage percussion, but after a long building spacey pad breaks into a classic filtered house tune with transposed chords and cut-up vocals that runs until the end of the track. the last title track demonstrates heavy stomping kicks, swinging hats, familiar psychedelic whirls and a trippy, crushed vocal sample appearing out of nowhere questioning where am i?

nights are coming and going and faces appear and vanish, great plans are made and rarely held up to. while that is the mode that keeps the machine running, from time to time something greater can evolve out this fast paced spare time profession. that is to say, it is a great pleasure to smooth the way for our dear friend * kleintierschaukel* and his * blue elephant*. a rare species whose origins are found in * motomia* (a1), that odd place where sticky clocks tick faster than time passes. still all confusion is lost in the calm whispering of * juliette*(a2), a harmony of strange confidence. despite all its apparent harmlessness, it needs the soothing voice of our all beloved le- onie to let its vast figure withdraw to the rivers and show the gentle nature of this * unterwassermann* (b1). back in his element all notches are smoothed out and movements unite in a rythmic flow. this is not a documentary, this is the blue elephant: * tv ende* (b2).

darkel is the solo project of jean-benoît dunckel, who is also known as half of the french duo air. his first solo album came out in 2006, at the same time as charlotte gainsbourgs 5:55 album that he produced alongside with his acolyte from air. as well as participating to mythical soundtracks with air (virgin suicides, lost in translation, marie antoinette, quartier lointain, pioneer), jean-benoît composed the score of bee, je mappelle hmm, and also the quirky film cyprien but always in a very organic and solar electronic spirit.

in a time before cdj loop buttons and stone-cold arrangement techniques, bonus beats and beat records were a vital tool for aspiring, working and tone-deaf djs. the third release in an unofficial beat-tracks sublabel (se redshape and todd osborn for further reference) rhythm trainx vol 1 tries to breathe new life into that lost craft with an all-star cast: manuel tur, i:cube, blank spanner, disco nihilist, Âme and radio slave. all in different bpm, varying styles and (un)fortunately a bit more than simple kick-drum-hi-hat patterns. built to last.

roberto capuano releases his first single on truesoul with two exceptional tracks that show a techier side to roberto s sound and one that impresses throughout. the title track never stop has been a highlight in adam beyers sets and its easy to understand why. the creeping vocal and driving drums are an inaugural part of the track before the uniquely pleasing pads drop in and create a gripping and immersive track to get lost in. around is a techier track that implements a throbbing underlying bass line that sits and keeps the track driving under a roaring vocal.

after more than a year in the making we are almost ready to release the final chapter in psychemagiks magik series. due to incredible responses from the artists we contacted we ended up with more tracks than we needed for one album so it was decided to release magik sunset in two parts. both albums contain yet more of the long lost and obscure tracks that the previous compilations have presented and part one is now available on double vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

christian löffler has already released two critically acclaimed albums, forest in 2012 and young alaska in 2014. both of which received major recognition and support. his next ep york, forthcoming on 2020vision narrowly avoided disaster after the laptop containing the demos was lost. after much perseverance, copies of the tracks were found and the ep came together. perhaps it was this fated start to york that imbues it with such a euphoric and stunning poignancy. either way, löffler has proved himself to be a compelling producer and after years of creating and releasing music he has become recognised as one of the best in the business. york complies with the consistency of his deep and emotive approach to production, making&#8232,,,,,,him synonymous with both a lightness of touch and a melancholia rarely heard in other producers.
