wars/when i feel is juk juks third 12 release for nommos lead tune wars is pure winter melancholy driven by dark rhythms and brooding basslines, occasionally broken down with celestial synths. slick, enigmatic and moody, a hard one to pin down but easy to get lost in. in contrast when i feel is an irresistible piece of minimal garage house. big kicks and crisp highs are punctuated with reversed strings. all this is scattered with juk juks signature vocal manipulations.

strong support coming from names such as solomun (this became an anthem for him at his ibiza residency this summer), daniel bortz, tale of us and the visionquest boys. pressed on very limited white vinyl!

following the great reception of hiverned 01 here is the second installment of hiverns edit series. in the a side, tbs >invitation to love<, a highly anticipated track that is finally released after becoming a fixture in john talabots sets. based on twin peaks osts >laura palmers theme<, the track rephrases angelo badalamentis clas- sic from an acid house perspective. adding analog rhythms and a crispy bassli- ne to the ethereal chords of the original composition, this refix manages to keep the dream-like atmospheres of the song while transforming it into dancefloor- ready groove. the idea is simple, the results are magic. on the flip, marc pinol repeats appearance on the series revamping some lost australian minimal-wave track. in the vein of his previous >wheels< edit, the track conjures gloomy atmospheres and sparse rhythms with gritty synth melodies. on the top of it, the barcelonian producer adds dialogues from spanish cult art-house film >arrebato< (hence the title) multiplying the obscure ambience of the tune. once again, the release comes in a limited edition 10 inch wrapped in a handmade silk-screened sleeve. no digital and no-repress.

as emotional rescue continues to deliver the goods for those who love discofied rarities from the 70s and 80s, here comes this ep from kevin harrison, originally released in 1982 and worth a pretty penny second hand. it is a wistful, proggy kind of groove that finds harrisons voice lost in an alien phaser while the live band feel gels with synthesiser parts for a fluid kind of cosmic goodness. there is simply no arguing with the plush melodic wonderment of >views of the rhine<, while >fly< is the jam the party djs will reach for, not least for its slinky bassline. amazing.

nao katafuchi is a new york based japanese artist. living in lower manhattan for more that 20 years, nao has made an internationally interesting mini album lost somewhere between the future and the past. all of the music was made using a semi modern groovebox, guitar, and voice. this musical combination created a new wave cyberpop atmosphere that would not be out of place in a bar in liquid sky, blade runner, or total recall. trashy japanese retro-future pop out of new york city!

the story begins somewhere far away from awareness and rational thought. our main characters plays the roles of lost but not aimless arrows of pictures. pictures made out of sub atomic movements, amplified through breathable air and finally fragmenting its energy into space. we see the the sun go down in the ocean, the purple and red colors and finally the majestic sight of whales plowing the water in the horizon. it has been many years, in fact, so many years that we are now back again to the same point time. it is like an infinite loop, never loosing pace and determination.

the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler and sascha hedgehog, earned their dance music stripes around the turn of the millennium with a series of strong releases, most notably on frankfurt-based techno institution playhouse. describing their musical aesthetic as cabaret-independent-house, the act forged a distinct sound that combines icy minimal structures with catchy euro-girl vocals, anglo-french funk antics and a dash of dancefloor melancholy. this summer, rework return to the fray with a two-sided affair for paris-based meant records that shows they have not lost the electric energy that characterised their earlier work.

cazumas yume is a delicately balanced trip, from a broke, raw groove towards the light. striving upwards all the way, higher through beautifully orchestrated pads, strings and chants. if you flip the record, you will find envie by mr raoul k. if you know raouls sound, you would probably find this one to be on the clubbier tip. bulding from a groove of raouls patented percussive arrangement comes an electronic sandstorm, from tiny stabs through a full on and freaked out break where the mighty beat is totally lost. and then back at it! this is really one of those tracks that you cant help yourself from playing whenever control is lost on the dancefloor, a gateway to the crowds inner animal.

limited to 250 copies !!! on august 4th 2011, the sony music warehouse in enfield, north london was attacked during riots and looting that affected many areas of the capitol over the course of a week. the warehouse burned down completely, taking with it millions of cds and vinyl stored by the distributor pias including the back catalogue of freerange. the blow was devastating for many labels, with the logistics of manufacture and minimal insurance payouts meaning that recreating the entirety of their old stock was completely impossible and many releases have been lost forever as a result.

the music of portable is truly unique. habitually perlons in-house singer and also the man that is bodycode, alan abrahams is capable of evoking the spirits of traditional deep house songs - yes, you read right: songs - without getting lost in nostalgia, manufacturing boring carbon copies or a longing for a past that never was. his first visit to ramonas little outlet is all that: haunting, melancholic yet optimistic, as deep as it is driving and most of all mesmerising. >a process< features all his great sound signature moves, comes with an acappella for brave djs and a serious flutramental on top of it all for the faint at heart. creation might be a painful process, but surely a rewarding one for portable. ramona is in love.
