token is 5 years old. i never planned to do anything special for this occasion. however, when i received these 2 new tracks from phase, all just fell into place. this release pretty much sums up what token stands for since day one. both tracks are fierce pieces of relentless yet deep techno, in-your-face yet very subtle rhythms, all credited to phases detailed drum programming, keen sense of atmospherics & sound processing.

organs of love are the power-sleaze duo of james mckinven (organs, love) and alicia matthews (vocals, love). james mckinvens musical odyssey started with playing synth in (kraftwerk, suicide-inspired) electro band berlin blondes. he then moved on to altered images. after that he worked in genetic studios learning from the modern day genius that was producer martin rushent (human league, the stranglers, the buzzcocks). then went on to form one dove and worked with maverick genius andy weatherall. after that he drifted back to where it all started, analog electro, and miss alicia matthews. alicia matthews has quite a different background one from fine art and performance. through working together at the same bar and having many intoxicating late night chats, they decided to try to get back to a 70s theatrical, musical performance: where live music and art combine for something beyond the rock gig vibe. and luckily enough, miss matthews has quite the pair of pipes a true vocal delight. the result is organs of love

one year ago digitaline has released raouls very first release. it has been one of their most successful eps so far and both tracks instantly found their audience and brought raoul onto the main floors of the entire world, where it still stands confortably one year later. so what better than to celebrate one year of the label and welcome digitaline back home? same format: two tracks of deep techno, fat grooves and aerial melodies made for the dance floor. almost made on the dance floor. true! digitalines sound is always very inspired by their live performances and with those two tracks the boys wonderfully managed to transpose the best of their live skills, energy and dynamic. before finally being released here, both tracks have been played live on many floors throughout 2011, adjusted slowly set after set to touch every soul listening. a-side neon is a massive groove infecting the entire track through long breaks, while synth strings generate waves of tension in the piece. b-side comet is build around a big round bassline and concret noises that give the track its organic motion. the melodies of the track seem to come out of a fairy tale, dreamy arpeggios that defy the laws of gravity.

this ep was formed with a concept in mind that involves a natural phenomenon occurring in various/different fields of science and nature - anti-parallelism. as the word suggests, anti-parallelism describes the natural relationship between two occurrences, objects or even non-material things, that are virtually identical and yet oriented in different directions. during the time the music was made i was researching natural phenomenons like this one. naturally, this became part of the nucleus, fabric and inspiration for this work. in genetics, for example, if the antiparallelity is corrupted during the process of dna replication it is called a mutation. this mutation can be anything from totally inconsequential to critical for the survival of the whole living organism. a double helix of dna contains two helixes, that are naturally anti-parallel to one another. in physics this could be two of the same objects moving through space and time in opposite directions - just like the instruments or parts of a beat in electronic music production. so metaphorically speaking,anti-parallelism holds a natural balance to keep it safe and stable. although this might sound all very conceptual and theoretical this music is obviously just what it is - it is not intended to teach math, physics or biology in any way. the above mentioned aspect has simply found its way through my head and might have led to a piece of music that somehow, at least for me, is connected to these thoughts. it might evoke something very different for you.
from celle into the wide world: these days guido schneider is one of the major globetrotters among djs and producers worldwide, but he began his career 15 years ago in provincial germany. however, instead of baking bread rolls, schneider founded his own label neue welten right from the beginning. it was a move that naturally brought him to the capital of electronic music in berlin. what followed was a series of exciting and successful collaborations with other renowned artists, and after dissolving his label, schneider began travelling as a sought after dj, jetting all around the globe. it is little wonder that such a reputable dj and producer also belongs to the diverse highgrade family. he has now produced another ep for the berlin label which brings us the typical guido schneider qualities right before our eyes, or even better: before our ears! the two tracks navigate precicely from the first bar, the minimal sound universe that relies on elaborate percussion, without ever being over produced, and flow into fantastically harmonic vocals that lend the thumping beats an elegant softeness. simply stated, typically schneider.

the londinium ep is the latest release on uzuri recordings and welcomes chicago skyway back to the fold. not that hes been away too long, having produced a full 12 release and contributed to the from chicago turin amsterdam & dublin with love ep just last year. we also welcome hakim murphy to the label with his credentials it was only a matter of time before our paths crossed!as the title suggests, this release was inspired, conceptually at least, by our nations capital, and its apparent that sean has spent quite enough time here to get the gist of the place, with the b-side tracks entitled traffic and noise, respectively. im sure he loves it here, really.musically, he keeps it closer to his windy city heart very clearly reflecting his roots, in fact. as a dj and club promoter in mid 90s chicago, sean frequently shared the decks with some of the citys biggest talents at that time cajmere, gene farris and spencer kinsey (gemini) among them, and one could say that theres an audible relief flavour to a-side, london streets, with its stripped-back, hypnotic stomp. its fitting that hakim murphy remixes the track, coming from similar roots within chicagos scene, and his own reworking retains the drawn-out essence of the original but brings a whole new hips-and-shoulders groove to the track.
