This is one release you wont get over in a hurry. Bucies deep n defiant house lick Get Over It, picked up by Foliage Records from the ever burgeoning club scene of South Africa, is seriously cultured stuff. A rich blend of soulful groove, vocals and lyrics, Get Over It is destined for long, long life on the dancefloor.

One of South Africaʼs biggest vocal talents, Bucie Nqwiliso has only just released her aptlytitled third album Princess Of House, on which Get Over It appears. The album, produced by long-term collaborator Thandukwazi Demor Sikhosana and released on his Demor Music imprint, has already caused a major stir in South Africa, where new, exciting forms of house continue to break loose. Princess Of House was quickly snagged by Foliage, keen to introduce it to a new audience, and here now are the first glorious fruits. Bucieʼs velvety yet assertive song, about standing tall in claustrophobic relationships, gathers further emotional charge backed as it is by an uptown fusion of powerful, melancholic keys, Vibes and trumpet. But then there are top-draw remixes from rising underground house star Ezel and slick Demor newcomer Sun-el Sithole.

Ezel offers similarly deep and mesmeric reflections on his main remix, via lulling piano riffs, gentle low-slung b-lines and gorgeous, jazzy swells of synth. A dub subtly intensifies the lush soul-dance groove whist Ezelʼs excellent ʻNu-Soulʼ take drops the tempo but quickens the mood thanks to some seriously struttinʼ beats, horn stabs and squelchy, funked-out keys – itʼs a sassy, cocksure jam adding real zing and uplift to Bucieʼs delivery. Freshman Sun-el Sithole, meanwhile, is one worth watching. He slides effortlessly back into deep house territory, building urgent, rolling drums, pulses of subterranean bass and rippling keys around Bucieʼs vocals, before unleashing an epic, vaulting 4-4 groove as free and easy as it is meticulously, and rather beautifully, planned. Sitholeʼs evident talent is sure to prick ears far beyond his homeland….

Bucie follows global hits Superman and Turn Me On (both alongside Black Coffee) with another monumental offering. Get Over It is her own sophisticated but no less forceful and inspiring take on the ʻprotestʼ song. Sheʼs on the march with Foliage and thereʼs plenty more, still, to say….
