copenhagen s tartelet is returning to their roots with a dancefloor-focused ep, pizza trance, from dirk 81—a.k.a label head emil m. nyholm. having previously dropped a slew of tracks as muff deep and ctepeo 57 (with max graef), the dj and producer is blessing the universe with three cuts of dancefloor heaven under a new moniker lifted from his days tagging concrete walls in the 90s. influences draw everywhere from disco, to african hi-life, dub, underworld, a few old trance records, and timeless house music.

recorded over a year in berlin and copenhagen, the record kicks off with -m.f.c-, a disco-afro-house hybrid oozing with roland jupiter 6 keys and some funky drums processed on old equipment from the former ussr. the b-side spreads things deep and delicious with -pizza trance (main mix),- a euphoric serving of sounds that substitutes pepperonis and pineapples for glittering sequencers and a bangin bass drum.

the ep s closer tastes like a bit of both, mixing up some more acid sounds into the recipe for a retro-sounding house track. it s another tasty delight from the label that will fulfil any and all late-night cravings, especially if you fiend for neapolitan pizza.. leave room for seconds.

astrophonica label head fracture launches himself into 2018 with take you . nodding hard towards saucer-eyed 90 s italian piano house it features the lush vocals of lucie la mode while full tempo kick drums light the touch paper. smiles wide. utopia now. aa ‘northbound spiral’ continues the ascension to enlightenment with some hyper-rapid 4/4 escapism. hot on the heels of 2017’s anthem ‘cold & rain’, fracture and astrophonica continue to join the dots like no one else out there.

having recently appeared on bosconi records and altzmusica, daisuke kondo is a producer on the rise at present. this outing on vibraphone adds fuel to that particular fire with four distinctive cuts that push to the outer edges of house music without losing sight of the groove. -hold on to love- is, on the surface, an upbeat, disco-infused house jam, but there s a certain trippy approach kondo takes in the processing department that edges the music into a different head space. -life- meanwhile gets gritty and bass heavy at one end of the frequency range, and airy and melodic at the other. -feelin blue- gets even dustier and scratchier with its sample treatment, and then -fallen star- lays down some unflinching machine beats with wonky, distant piano licks.

inspired by a fluid mix of global club sounds including uk funky, kuduro, techno and rap, nervous horzion co-head tsvi is to kick off 2018 with the release of new ep, ‘rambo’. comprised of six tracks, including collaborations with dj jm and fellow nervous horizon boss, wallwork, as well as a bonus remix from luru, ‘rambo’ details how tsvi’s sound continues to evolve, taking on bold new shapes in the process.

for the first release of 2018 we welcome harry wolfman to the outplay family! having followed his work for the last couple of years we re very happy to have him deliver this varied 4-tracker, which very well might be some of his best work to date. the a side starts off with hitch . a warm and dusty groover driven by rhodes, a rubbery bassline and a thudding kick. a lovely string piece in the middle of the track slowly builds up to the break for it to return to the head nodding groove soon after. the added percussion gives it a nice lively feel as well. pigs in blankets sets the pace a little slower, but the funk goes on. the track incorporates 80s style samples with some excellent synth and chord work. perfect for a warm up session. starting on the b side harry takes it up a notch with nemoto , which will be a definite stomper for the dance floor. it takes you on a 9 minute journey of rolling bumpy basslines, screaming distortion leads and hypnotising synth work. finally, to ease things off, sts-136 (final call) comes in at a slow 88 bpm pace as a perfect closure to the ep. dreamy pads, piano licks and a calming marimba melody combined with a beat which feels like a warm blanket will make you wander off for a moment

dead man s chest aka alex eveson makes his debut appearance on myor massiv sublabel diamond life alongside head honcho coco bryce. dancehalls seem to be the common denominator on this 12”. and where mr eveson prefers to drop a tab of acid, coco opts for a helping of mandy to work his way through the night. both sides find the respective producers operating at the 160 bpm mark, wading through a hazy mist of sounds reminiscent of clandestine warehouse raves. but whereas dmc utilizes a fairly straightforward, 93 style hardcore drum loop in combination with acidic undertones and atmospherics which clearly reveal his love for the “golden era” of mo wax trip hop, señor bryce s jam is a far more hectic sounding affair, layering a chopped and re-edited apache on top of an already-frantic, percussion- laden break beat, adding even more to the rushy feeling induced by the nervous pads and rave stabs. quality, yet slightly off-kilter hardcore junglist exercises.

repertoire head north for their first 12- of the year courtesy of rising manchester murker artilect. -something else- is a spacious rolling piece laden with a strong late night desert atmosphere complete with snare-shaking rattlesnakes. homemade weapons is the perfect remixer of choice as he digs his claws into the space and completely switches up the drums to a combo of rolling hangdrum and thunderclap splashes of breaks in all the right sweet spots. finally we get -lost- amongst some superb razor sharp steps, haunted paranoid textures and classic rave-referencing humanised hits. absolutely authentic.

next up on francis harriss newly-founded record label kingdoms comes something very special from brooklyn-based film composer, songwriter, producer and performer leah lazonick. movimenti della luna doro (movements of the moon of gold translated from italian) is a four-track ep from one of the most exciting musicians and performers around - a beautiful quartet of contemporary classical music with a twist. lazonick is something of a polymath, having composed and conducted orchestral and electronic scores for short films and commercials as well as being a classically-trained pianist. lazonick is also a connoisseur of analog synths and vintage drum machines, and will release a second ep focussing on these passions during the course of 2018. here we are treated to three luscious works for piano and string quartet, written for a one-off performance at studio off interarts, an art gallery in montreal. the piece was performed in a forest-like immersive environment, and was originally called in a forest (a piece in three movements). lazonick performed the piano parts along with a string quartet she had assembled for the performance/recording. lazonick explains: as opposed to most of the other songs/compositions i have written, i have no concrete sentimental story behind writing this piece. the motivation, inspiration and overall idea behind composing it was of a more technical nature, attempting to relay the music in my head at its purest form, without any compromises, by primarily making use of melodic and harmonic dissonances whilst still keeping the content captivating, musical and continuous.

>from the performance came a track called ‘champagne’, a wave of sax washing over you accompanied by plinking guitar and of course those fuzzy hi hats that go right to your head.
this track could previously only be experienced by seeing the trio play live or by watching our documentation of the performance, until now.

isle of jura’s second longplayer reissue is an album from ingleton falls that touches upon ambient, dub, house and balearic styles and was originally released in 1991 as a limited run of 100 self distributed cassette tapes ingleton falls are andy hannam seymour and andy eardley from tyne and wear in newcastle. having come from a more traditional band background originally, ingleton falls was their electronic project and the result of a love of acts like dub syndicate, african headcharge, gary clail, the orb and the klf.

villa Åbo in the alternative solo project of swedish musician and producer jan svensson, who has been making electronic music for the better part of 30 years as the artist behind such aliases as frak, studio ss and alvars orkestra. svensson also runs legendary swedish dance and experimental music label börft, the product of a mutual appreciation for severed heads and terse tapes. as villa Åbo he released two records in 1997 on börft and remained inactive for 17 years until the dutch label bio rhythm coaxed him into revisiting the project and released a double 12&#8243,, in 2014. jan has since followed with a steady stream of 12” singles for kontra-musik, noise in my head and radio lundberg.
“magnetic moves” is villa Åbo’s debut album, originally released in an limited edition of 65 hand-numbered cassettes by funeral fog in 2016.
clocking in at over 46 minutes, this first-ever vinyl edition spreads the 8 ragged techno tracks across four sides for maximum loudness. some songs are aggressively potent, with cyclical synth riffs and razor-sharp acid lines riding a heavy, funk-fuelled techno groove. others tracks are more fluid, vintage underground resistance or derrick may with killer drum machine workouts that come in handy as dj tools. all songs have been remastered by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is housed in a custom made jacket designed by eloise leigh, featuring a photograph of jan’s mother’s house, the meaning behind “villa Åbo”. each copy includes a double-sided postcard with notes.

originally released in 1993 by the italian imprint minus habens records, -concrete jungle- is the second album by this seminal project of dirk ivens (the klinik, absolute body control). a work considered as groundbreaking by lot of fans of early 90s industrial, noise and ebm. there are few electro-pioneers that are still active and successful and mr. ivens is one of them, inspiring a lot of acts to follow in the past three decades. -concrete jungle- is being released for the first time on vinyl in a limited/numbered edition of 700 copies. double record including all the original tracks plus the -extended play- ep (1994) and some songs from old compilations. artwork based on the original design and presented on a deluxe gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves and numbered card.

reissue! ae recordings is the infamous sublabel of thule records, which was responsible for some of the finest techno releases from iceland in the early 2000s. this collaboration between two titans of the icelandic electronic music scene, thor & yagya, was one of the pedestals of the thule musik dynasty. originally released in 1998, it still stands the test of time even ages gracefully like a good red wine, where the the harsh tannins of its youth gradually give way to a softer mouthfeel. ooger deliveres finely crafted techno with glacial atmosphere a blend thule records has long time ago perfected. the phuture isn t what it used to be the phuture is cow. ae recordings/thule records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of iceland s most renowned electronic musicians.

brand new edition of soul jazz records’ brasil album recorded in rio de janeiro in 1994 with a host of legendary brazilian musicians including sivuca, raul de souza and singer joyce moreno – which has remained one of the key defining early releases from the record label. out-of-print for over 20 years (!!!) the album has now been fully digitally re-mastered for this new 2018 edition. includes down

returning to metalheadz for the first time since 2010 were delighted to have seba grace the label with his ‘node 46 ep. the magical combo of seba & robert manos head up the release with the swedish producer also providing us with the dark and relentless title track on the other side. two tracks typical of sebas incredibly unique style, one that hes so consistently built his reputation around.
