shaun reeves & tuccillo present a new facet of their ongoing collaborative efforts, with a collection of works that took root in the woods of ibiza. shantu’s first record opens with primero, a classy ride through dreamy melodic elements and a relaxed groove with a steadily rising pace. ingenue moves things into 2nd gear with a deep and funky bassline that is soon propelled further with a variety of organic percussion elements. the long b side zissou would certainly be at home in the team zissou minimalist playlist, a mysterious and psychedelic underwater trip populated with strange echoed synths and steady precision drum machine work.

superb album by east los angeles band the village callers, recorded live in 1968 and released on eddie daviss rampart records. seasoned and popular band at all the top venues, the village callers brought many different sounds into the mix: jazz, soul, r&b and lots of latin percussion. their only lp consisted mainly of groove-filled covers such as i heard it through the grapevine, i dont need no doctor, joao donatos the frog and a medley of aretha franklin hits. hector, one of the standout cuts on the lp and its only original song, has been sampled by beastie boys, cypress hill or de la soul among other hip-hop artists.

a complex web – the story of dive position and the shining path ... began in 1982 when peter miller (aka dr. william s ray – vocals, tapes, guitar) met andrew millar (aka maurice spectograph the nose-y pieman – program execution) in gold coast, australia. while sharing a similar taste in music, they decided to form a band, so dive position was born. equipped with a korg synthesiser and tascam 4-track recorder, they -wanted to have the sound of kraftwerk, the groove of can, and the menace of throbbing gristle-, ending up with -a cross of suicide and the residents-, as peter recalls. in a local record shop they met stig andre leonardson (aka vincent blackshadow), who joined the duo on percussion and drum machine programming. their motto was -now is then-. dive position then became the fatal charm around 1984, and the fatal charm became the shining path who eventually released their only album -basic training manual- in an edition of only 250 copies, most probably in 1986. the band then started to drift apart, and shortly after andrew sadly passed away – this compilation -now is then- comprised of previously unreleased dive position and the shining path material is dedicated to his memory.

rnt welcomes dusty digger extraordinaires al-tone, with a superlative set of rare edit gold! known for their eponymous rework series, al tone (aka al bumz and tone b. nimble) come hot out of the gate with feelin irie a gritty afro boogie stomper, before moving into the uptempo soul of simone manuel. flip the disc over for the guitar and clavinet-driven groove of groovin, and then they take us home with the theo-esque looped sax and falsetto gallup of wishes. from obscurity to eternity in 4 masterful reworks!

infused with minty flavours this next blend brings raw grooves, warm baselines and uplifting melodies. crafted with love they make the perfect accompaniment to twilight settings, tracks supplied from mattiik (uk), slim steve (italy), dos (austria) and james henry (uk).

on “rest in space”, his first full length outing for music for dreams, the lp keeps a steady pace of around 90-95 bpm, but never gets repetitive with islandman taking us on a rich and ever surprising journey, full of quirky turns and mysterious instrumentations. the opener “rest in space” treats us to a funky percussion-thick rhythm that lounges into a pool of playful & jazzy horn & flute arrangements. this is followed by the epic “night wind” which sweeps across cinematic desert landscapes of synth layers and falls into a dark night time groove reminiscent of nicolas jaar & dave harrington’s darkside project. “seikleos” centers around a motorik electronic rhythm pattern (not unlike the classic electro-pop classic “popcorn”) that develops into a chugging balearic house jam while stand out track “future days” brings in a female guest vocalist to complete the album with a breezy full on groover that echoes of both sheila chandra and tom tom club. also included is the previously released digital single “agit” as well as a remix by berlin-based m.rux, toning down the heavy guitar of the original in favor of a more bouncier interpretation. the stunning “ikaru” wades in through chunks of jungle ambiance and watery percussion to lounge along on a rubbery funk bassline, coupled with a heavy laid back beat and wobbly derelict synth figures. “tawhid” is an odd mix of new wave brilliance and prog momentum that breaks into a cascade of pouring rain and surprising percussion breaks. lastly comes gorgeous eastern guitar opus “the true word of the wind” and the warm vibey dreamscape “following”. as a whole, islandman delivers a delicate buffet of influences - spanning the spectrum from hazy balearic pop to tropical new age flirts to deep spiritual psychedelic jamming.

next up on the influential artreform records label is the boss himself, aka kyiv-based dj and producer yevgeniy joss. often turning out tracks that sit high in the juno and decks charts, joss has a high-quality sound that ranges from slick tech to deep house and now he proves that once more.
up first is smooth, an infectious groove with lively synths scurrying about and bringing lots of dynamism to the drums. the percussion is crisp and the whole thing feels spaced out and futuristic. it’s busy and brimming with energy and will get any floor on its toes. sharp is a darker number with more menace in the drums. they are rubbery and supple and run through with edgy little synth lines. the track grows wilder as it unfolds and will really work dance floors into a lather.
once again the master joss shows just why he is such a tastemaker in the underground dance scene.

sadness of being is a deep contemplative balearic groove evocative and reflective. max essa tunes it up with his trademark drum programming and synth patterns. an essential sunset shuffler

adventures in paradise launches with the esteemed line-up of dedication, featuring felix dickinson, tsuyoshi kosuga of cro-magnon and other like-minded groovers. previously found on dfa and claremont 56, this occasional project steps up with the heavy disco funk groove of -show me love-, which lays down a rich spread of instrumentation with danielle moore of crazy p fame on vocal duties. for those who just want the heads down business, there s an instrumental on the flip that lets the dazzling production shine through. for those craving and advanced slice of modern disco, look no further.

amsterdam based artist nthng continues to have a busy year. following up an album on lobster theremin and ep on transatlantic, he now lands on delsin with three tracks that touch on driving dub-techno and dreamy ambient. oralage opens with upbeat drum programming and gliding hits that make for a smooth flowing groove. distant pads add some spacey atmospheres and the production is effortlessly warm and driving. a souls search takes time out to drift in the cosmos, with waves of muted euphoria washing over you as you sink into clouds of ambient bliss. lastly, turn to gaia is a dubbed out techno roller, with long legged drums looping down low, reverberating chords adding weight and distant bell sounds charting the whole thing in a harmonic glow. it rounds out a super smooth and seductive ep.

the first vinyl installment from odt records is a vinyl only ep: ufo park. produced by romanian trio lisière collectif, and including remixes from melodie & teluric, under their duo alias glueped, and from steve o sullivan. the music is a 4 tracks ep: where -u - 2902 - 16- is a classy minimal composition, blending a tight beats with a deep and bewitching atmosphere that have been re-interpreted by our two remixer on the b side. in the a2 spot, it s the warm deep and groove-oriented -b - 0912 - 15- that has been pressed. designs of the ep have been created by our faithfull oriane yo, who used andu simion photographies in a pure and simple arrangment.

with lomdit ep we have arrived at levi verspeeks 3rd solo record. three times a charm and so it will be when it crashes onto the dancefloor with tech triumph tamtam named after an unknown friend. 2nd track octo s slick, oozing groove sees right through you and pillages the floor with metal percussion. no later than 6 and a half minutes after you will be met by god s choir singing it s chorus: we smell sausage. watch out that you don t get dipped by that foxy break halfway through! knock knock. who s there? hmmm. hmmm who? hmmm, the last track on lomdit, and it knocks!

stephen laubner never fails to deliver the goods, whether on his own label something or elsewhere. having recently popped up on the untold stories, this time around hes dropping his uniquely crusty compositions on synthetic gold. after a quietly disconcerting ambient opening, the leftfield grind of the taphead pushes an uncompromising agenda of ragged bass and an unrelenting groove. october sunrise by way of contrast is a more intimate, sweet natured affair. syntax error too taps into the softer side of laubner s craft in a most mesmerizing of ways, but for the die hard fans fear not, there s also plenty of locked groove loops included to keep you tripping into infinity.

chicago’s carington pierre, also known as lanzo, has bestowed evidence of his cosmic hip hop beatology to the cold busted label in the form of a new album, omnipotent. previously recording for blvnt records and the natural selection label, lanzo specializes in a style of experimental hip hop that draws from boom-bap, soulful downtempo, and atmospheres that lean toward the celestial. lanzo and his trusty mpc 1000 have been actively producing since 2008 and omnipotent confrms his upward trajectory, presenting ffteen tasty sonic morsels that groove in a confdent but abstract fashion. highlights include “comfort zone” which envelopes a swinging rhythm in dreamy strings, distant voices, and rolling bass, and the odd but appealing “gutter balls”, featuring some deliciously drunken synths. there’s also the melancholy quiet storm of “colours”, “against the wall” and its heavily processed beat magic, and the loping sci-f jazz of “between friends”. omnipotent is a heady listen, displaying textures and swirls that accentuate the sturdiness of its drum beats. lanzo has provided a distinctive soundtrack that’s ready-made for day blazing or night groovin’.

canada’s fastest moving and hardest working collective are back with one of their finest albums to date, a brand new journey into tropical, soul and jazz styles on their scorching new release, “under burning skies”. turbulent times call for strong voices and the souljazz orchestra’s new set packs a suitably heavy lyrical punch, with wry observations and an urge for progressive change. musically, the band continue to push the limits, dusting off 80s vintage synthesizers and early drum machines for the first time, bringing lo fi disco, boogie and electro touches to their trademark horn arrangements and earthy analogue sound. the fruits are a-plenty and the group sound at their confident and versatile best from start to finish. opener “dog eat dog” powers in with mabinuori idowu and philippe lafreniÞre lambasting the powerful and the corrupt over an infectious afro-disco groove, “lufunki” takes the group right back to their b-boy roots, bringing the afro vibes to beat street and “is yeelyel” delivers a killer rework of an obscure original by somalian super-group dur-dur band.

during the mid-80s and early 90s movin’ records defined the new jersey sound. a skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” abigail adams, movin’s first output was ‘i’ve got the music’ by boyd jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers blaze, kerri chandler, tony humphries and smack, straight up “jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. still the movin’ records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
for the most part movin’ records focused on soulful vocal tracks but they peppered a few deeper tracks into the catalogue too. this is one of those releases and one of the rarer titles to find from the label. produced by steve kelly and steve ‘lucky’ benson as 3 a.m., this was the only single under that group name, although they were involved in other productions from new jersey. deep chords, a heavy kick and a low-end bass form the backing for the repeated vocal line “i love this place”. the ‘place of worship’ mix brings an uplifting piano line to the forefront, whilst an organ line jams out through the track with a jazzy walking bassline holding the groove together.

lp + download card. new album waiho is brzzvll at its best: excellent psychedelic jazz-funk in which the band s solid, characteristic sound comes forward.the seven piece interfuse improvised dance music with jazz-fusion, afro funk and rare groove. it is freaky, it is trippy and it follows no rules.

sivuca s legendary brazilian cover of the bill withers classic ‘ain’t no sunshine’ was a big hit on the rare groove scene and still sounds amazing today.
we’ve also included his amazing cover of edu lobo’s ‘ponteio’ on the flip – both where originally released on sivuca’s self titled album from 1973 on vanguard.

we welcome dmx krew back to super rhythm trax with another ep crammed with highlights. the ep opens with the stunning grand tour sounding frighteningly like a never heard classic from 1989 before the rug is pulled from under your feet and you fall into the menacing stomp of death blip which pretty much does what you d hope. flip the record for the crafty jack of the wiggly worm before the ep concludes with the wistful simplicity of old groove . dmx does it again!

brooklyn/london-based label truecolors follows its debut release with a 12- four-tracker by zigan aldi titled fidale ep. based in berlin, zigan aldi contributed to truecolors va from earlier this year alongside bedouin, nu and stavroz, which has conquered the beatport charts and stayed strong in several vinyl charts. titled fidale , his next outing on truecolors sees aldi make use of analog gear and original recordings of real instruments as opposed to samples, as well as tape to mix the tracks down. this year has seen the producer gig regularly in locations like ibiza, vienna, berlin and istanbul where his live performances incorporate musicians. the tracks have gotten tremendous support and love throughout the summer, at the saga parties at heart ibiza, where zigan holds a residency. deep chords and echoing effects make up fidale as a medley of instruments ebb and flow from the mix, making way for the low-slung groove of moonfly with its infectious guitar licks and serene aesthetic. beni beni incorporates organic drums and soaring atmospherics that blend together with turkish vocalist meltem cumbul s chanting voice, until nu past concludes the release with its crunchy percussion and sultry bass..

dutch dj, producer and dekmantel family member young marco kicks things off with a beautiful, melodic, waterfall of a track. it’s a record you’ll want to play out on a yacht, while sipping on a rosé under the warm, afternoon sun. 2017 has been nothing short of an epic year for marco, having already compiled the second in the selectors compilation series for dekmantel, in addition to having released the second lp as gaussian curve, alongside gigi masin, and johnny nash. marco is in good company, as dutch-based artist suzanne kraft crafts a delightful, ambient-meets-house, summer groove, that lives at the most relaxed of paces, sitting side-by-side on the a-side. flip the record over and dekmantel favourite, and dutch house institute tom trago finds himself in a moment of blissful summer haze, with soft, sonic-pallets and waving melodies. concluding the record is long serving dekmantel mainstay, and rednose distrikt main-man awanto 3 with an analogue, and feel-good, electro-beat rhythm.
