prime numbers return with m7. the first side is taken by a remix of wireman’s >armour<, the original of which was included on pn04 released at the end of last year. the remix is from move d (deep space network, source records), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track whilst creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a husky hypnotic vocal sample. the flip includes two tracks. to start we have >crushed< by actress. darren j. cunningham aka actress runs the much lauded werk records and this track is taken from his limited cd only album >hazyville< (released on werk in the autumn of last year ) >crushed< is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. the track bumps along with hiss and crackle to good affect before turning into a badalamenti-esque loop to finish. to round things off be, the up & coming manchester based producer provides >when you left<. be cut his teeth with the chicago based still music and a great al hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. >when you left< is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end

in 2007 nick curly and marc scholl started cecille records, 2008 the sublabel numbers and now 5 years later comes cic (sik). cic records will be melodic and song like. the first release guilty pleasures ep comes from the portugal based artists johnwaynes which already released on cecille in 2011. the ep starts with >wild west<, sik vocals accompanied with a dark groove and a touch of special. second track >show me that you mean it< together with the voice from stee downes shows the melodic side of cic and tells a story about meaning and truth. third track >wet< starts with a naked direct groove and the offensive vocals from sonja james.

in their own words, like a radio-controlled mechanical, electro-mechanical and multifunctional musical instrument, berliner ring build up relentless and relentlessly different grooves in a characteristically non-direct way. as if playing around without focus they layer their tracks and slowly position them into form. the tracks featured here were originally released on cd on the art yard label. melodies are fragmented, often even sparse, the groove never stops, but does so with intervals and while changing focus. berliner ring references similar bands in the krautrock and post-rock genre, but it s subtlety, the originality of their self-built instruments and their songs that shift from downright groovy to more atmospheric explorations of ambience and texture guarantee them a unique voice and perspective. essential stuff.

the third ep by the durian brothers is called >cubs ep< and completes the trilogy of first recordings by the brothers to express their unique vision of a rough and direct club music that has its roots in minimal techno, noise and ethnic trance music. like its precursors, it comes in a foldout silkscreened cover, the cover artwork is again taken from a medicine book of the 1920s and reflects the durian brothers aesthetics of dense, analogue black and whiteness.

nice price deal !!! real name dan griober, dan habarnam has been active since the 90s, doing production for romanian pop artists while also working on his own projects. his solo catalog is pretty slim, with just a few appearances on drum & bass labels like santorin and subtle audio, but from the known is clearly the work of an experienced artist: though loosely anchored in techno, ambient and bass music, its stylistically open-ended, and produced with an audiophiles attention to detail. according to the label, groibers meticulousness extended to the mastering process as well (the cd, for instance, was recorded direct from the vinyl to achieve that special analog feel)

7 year old spaniard alberto pascual is the latest techno talent to be welcomed into the plus 8 fold with vertigo, his debut ep for the label. a skilled dj and live performer, pascual has been producing since 2004, with over 30 releases to his name, all of which pursue a direct and powerful techno style. its much the same on vertigo, the title track of this ep which hits loopy depths immediately. dramatic fx, crunchy hats and tension mounting hisses fill out the spaces between the beats, but the militant, marching groove never wavers. truchas rancias is more reserved: economical arrangements characterise the techno eeriness this time, forever hinting something is just around the corner but never quite showing you. final vinyl cut continuous learning is more unhinged, with swirling synths, dripping water sounds and shadowy voice sounds all coming together like classic plus 8 weaponry.

played by sven väth !!! night voyage tool kit is the collaborative project of two like-minded producers, night slugs bok bok and tom trago, curator of the rush hour labels voyage direct series. originally commissioned by sound pellegrino label boss teki latex, this is the result of four intense days and nights in toms amsterdam studio, surrounded by hardware and enshrouded in a thick haze. having pursued very different directions in their respective solo work, the duo find common ground in minimalism, dj tools, the neptunes and ghetto house. the result is a collection of stripped down rhythm tracks aimed straight for the club: the arpeggiator workout of pathfinder, vectors cosmic jeep bass, pom clash and its grimey lil louis tribute, and the acid epic lil ma bonus beat.

one half of ny duo worst friends, toms previous discographic output was a limited & stamped 7 inch that featured a killer edit of the macs >never going back again<. for resista no. 3 he delves into territories brazilian, with >cho chua<, a faultless rework of a certain tropicalista, designed for discerning dancefloors, circa ad 2011. he loops up the swinging guitar intro, which combined with the vocal hook makes for a heady mix. its an uplifting, joyous ode to all things tropical!
on the flip the >dukes dub< is a subtler more restrained version that makes greater use of effects and surprisingly brings the songs percussive elements to the fore... not quite as direct as its sibling on the a-side but definitely as effective!

the a-side of the record is the epic title track >nieves<, that in a straight way controls the nightly events on the basement floors. nieves is without a doubt taking each and every clubber on a mind trip. thanks to the drums in various arrangements, in combination with the heavy bass, nieves generates a forcing groove that even makes the floor dance.
luke hess reshapes nieves in a consisting and open way. with the given resources the remix is coming to an unsurpassed dynamic, which through percussion and dubby chord patterns is impressively direct. with this interpretation hess respectfully completes the release with sovereignty. vivantes is a classic tool which builds on the foundations of dub and rhythm. through the strongly repetitive pattern vivantes developes to something meditative, grounding the listener at the end of a journey of this extended play.

since the last senking album >pong< (r-n122) was a great success in 2010 and sold out quickly raster-noton swiftly asked for a follow-up of massels sound cosmos. on >tweek< senking again reveals his sense of cineastic atmospheres and dark abysmal depths of sound, which are subordinate to extremely slow choky basses and delayed beats. references to dubstep are rather the result of testing the outlying areas of the frequency spectrum than a direct relation to the genre. nevertheless it seemed very obvious to release senkings sound on 12inch vinyl to follow the footsteps of >plasticstar< (r-n081) and >pruitt igoe< (r-n124), >tweek< is meant to be a dj-tool for a club environment. >tweek< refers to a character of the well known us series >southpark<, who plays with feelings of incertitude and nervous decease. the album documents the eagerness to experiment and indicates astonishing ideas shining through the dark substance. the tracks even reveal cheerful and comical features.
