imre kiss presents crisis 001. the budapest-based artist ushers in the next phase of the party and dj collective that has been reshaping the hungarian music landscape since its inception in early 2016. the label’s inaugural release, ad astra, represents the fruits of a collaboration that has been a long time in the making. kiss, fresh off the back of his evolutionary strangers ep on mörk, partners with compatriot norwell, who is following up a prolific 2017 – one in which helena hauff named his odd ep her favourite record of the year.

for those that don’t know, cardiff’s earl jeffers is one half of darkhouse family, regular family at our sister label, first word, on which they released their debut album “the offering” late last year. earl is a prolific producer in his own right, also releasing over the years under the aliases chesus and metabeats on labels like mcde, fat city and local talk, collaborating with artists like byron the aquarius, action bronson and kamaal williams / henry wu, turning his hand ably to house, hip hop, jungle, jazz and more. all this in addition to running his own label, mélange records.
a dedicated digger and record collector first and foremost, earl has provided us with a quadruple set of heavyweight stuttery sci-fi boom bap. in earl’s words: “this record was mostly inspired by my penchant for the more electronic / synthesized jams, mostly replayed from the original compositions then thrust in to 2028 and beyond….”

seth troxler continues to showcase the work of chicago great k’alexi shelby: after an ep on his other label tuskegee music and a remix for sean miller on this imprint, shelby now steps up to play it say it with a trio of excellent club cuts. k’alexi shelby is one of the windy city’s most venerated heroes. he’s put out six albums and almost 60 eps since the late eighties, all of which have helped evolve and establish the chicago house sound around the world. next to remixing acts like the pet shop boys and derrick may, he runs his own k klassik and 321 labels and remains as vital as ever. the perfectly titled ‘groove with us’ opens up with a cut and paste style, funky disco loops and plenty of filters all bringing the loose house funk. it’s a playful and timeless tune that is designed to blow up the ‘floor and most certainly will thanks to its unbridled energy. the dynamic and driving ‘so chicago’ then slips into a slick house groove, with great percussion, more big string samples lighting up the track and a knotted bassline that keeps you on your toes. suspenseful and explosive, it’s filled with authentic party vibes and a real sense of fun that will ignite any set. last but not least is the excellent ‘black sunday’, which takes uplifting preacher vocals from a church sermon and backs it with gospel singing, an old school baseline and raw energy that will get hands in the air. it’s a definitive piece of authentic house music with real heart and soul. this is an expressive ep of house tracks that embody the instinctive and emotive spirit of the genre to perfection.

arthur baker and murk are two of the most iconic brands in electronic music. arthur baker’s career started in boston, and then hit its stride while he was living in new york city in the 80s and 90s, and he now spends much of his time in miami. oscar g and ralph falcon aka murk were born, raised, and lived their entire lives in miami. this new single is a culmination of the three artists spending time together in miami, and djing on the weekly murk monday events at renowned miami location coyo taco (delicious tacos up front, beats in a secret club in the back). coyo combines the tribal house percussion that murk is known for with the party-driven synths, vocals and instrumentation that is arthur baker’s trademark.

fleck e.s.c, aka franck collin, brings his unique blend of dancefloor electro to the cpu stable. originally from france and now based in tokyo, collin takes us on a musical journey from akihabara to the steel city via 2097.

with new track warschauerstrasse , claudio ricci has created an expansive seven minute workout of twisted synths and deep house drums. the first remix comes from long time techno heavyweight timo maas and the prolific and inventive basti grub. their singular remix speeds up the original and layers in fluttering toms and percussive sounds as well as broad, groaning synths and the distant sound of a bustling city at rush hour. sudam label boss and ibiza based artist kintar flips the track into something spacious and haunting. eerie keys and sweeping synths keep you on edge as the rubbery techno groove rolls on into the night. bulgarian based metodi hristov loves to experiment and has a distinctive techno style that gains support from the likes of richie hawtin, carl cox and adam beyer. in his hands the track becomes a peak time tech banger.

echocord sub-label echo echo continues this july with orbite’s ‘interstellar’ ep, a threetracker from the berlin- based producer. orbite is a brand new project founded in berlin, germany with a nod towards the raw, dubby sounds often heard across the clubs in the city, and where better to inaugurate things than the recently launched sub-label of copenhagen’s echocord, one of the leading imprints in the realms of dub techno, home to pioneering acts like rod modell/deepchord, pole and fluxion who have paved the way for orbite’s own twist on the genre. the ethereal pad textures of ‘skylar’ lead on the package, deftly evolving alongside bubbling synth tones, swelling chords and shuffled percussion to create a create dynamically unfolding six and a half minute cut. ‘moment’ follows, edging things further into dubbed-out territories with heavily delayed dub echoes and mesmeric spoken word poetry intertwining to create a, hypnotic beatless soundscape. ‘organi’ closes the record with emotive, billowing pads, warm bell like tones and vocal murmurs running alongside swinging shakers and stripped-back micro-house percussion.

loyoto are the east-berlin born eva be and cle from the western part of the formerly dived city. both started their dj and producer career almost at the same time in the heart of the then developing scene, the very center of berlin, just after the wall came down. originally rooted in very different styles of music, they encountered for the first time djing together in 2011, finding common ground in more than just music - a gig, that should lead to more: they decided to combine their talents and knowledge and build a studio together. here, and during legendary back2back dj sets, they finally united their different musical backgrounds - dub/reggae and underground house music - and defined their very own sound.

guru s jazzmatazz, vol. 1 is the debut solo studio album from guru, one half of the hip-hop duo gang starr. released on 18th may, 1993 on chrysalis records, this album is one of the first albums to combine a live jazz band with hip hop production and rapping. live backing is provided by a band that includes lonnie liston smith, branford marsalis, ronny jordan, donald byrd and roy ayers. the album also features vocal collaborations with carleen anderson, n dea davenport (of the brand new heavies) dee c lee and french rapper mc solaar. the variety of guest artists adds diversity and originality to each track, and gives the album a distinct jazz feel. in celebration of the 25th anniversary of this classic album ume/urban legends will be releasing a 3lp deluxe edition which includes the original album, the instrumentals and a third bonus lp of rare remixes. the package also comes with a 12 page booklet that features rare images from the original jazzmatazz photo shoot.
