maurizio vitello returns to metroline with some seriously deep bass-driven techno. a devastating ep. the lead track is a driving, stripped down techno groove. full-bodied toms and a seriously fat bass keep the track rolling while filtered vocals and understated synths add the dynamics. heavy! looking good keeps that groove going with a bassline so heavy you will have to pick yourself up off the floor. a bubbling percussion break evolves throughout the track, building in complexity, but kept in check by some nice metronomic hats at the high end. on movers maurizio lets the drums do the talking. everything locks tightly around the solid kicks. the multi-layered break adds a sweet cubano vibe that you simply wont be able to shake off. let the bass drrrrooopppp! pleased? yes we are. this playful track is going set the summer floors on fire. vocal samples weave in and out of the mix, and sharp-as-a-needle 80s-tinged synths stab through the deep, heavy rhythm track to awesome effect.

in the impressive flow of new talent in 2011 on fokuz recordings we already had the pleasure to present the sound of brother, command strange and intelligent manners among others. the next flavour of the funky liquid melting pot called fokuz recordings goes by the name donnie dubson. berlin based irishman donnie o sullivan aka donnie dubson started releasing his funky rollers on have a break and influenza media and already featured on fokuz on the chronicles of the deep lp together with stunna back in 2007. the grapefruit / battlecat release on influenza media in 2009 got him a lot of attention and is still heard in dj sets today. now its 2011 and fokuz presents the beautiful debut album of donnie dubson! his sound can be described as refreshing and original liquid drum n bass with a touch of the well known atmospheric drum n bass vibes from the mid 0s. his basslines are the unique sellingpoint as well as his ability to create an organic feel in the music thats only done by the few who truly understand what liquid drum n bass is all about. pleasuring both critical listeners and the dancefloor audience this album is a perfect overview of the sound fokuz stands for. a great example of how music can be time-less in this decade of fast moving consumer goods.

italian techno heavyweights markantonio and rino cerrone finally name their collaborative ventures after ten years of gigs and productions together, and the name is junction hands. revolution is back is the first full release under the junction hands moniker, following a well received outing as part of the recent the napoli connection ep on adam beyers drumcode and it sees the two veterans deliver some of their strongest work yet. the title track is a pacey number with a reverb soaked yet warm atmosphere which underpins an aggressive, simple and incredibly effective bass/drum loop which gains intensity throughout. sharp sounds puncture the groove here there which keeps things interesting but its the discordant stabs in the break which push things into overdrive. the equally hypnotic and driving thing for hands follows but manages to do so with an increased feeling of woozy menace. synths feedback on themselves to shattering crescendos before subsiding into waves of noise while the groove relentlessly works its magic. with junction hands theres yet another must-check name coming out of the neapolitan scene.

the croatian wonderboy tristy nesh is back on absolut freak records, with the famous elektro frau xenia beliayeva. they had already met on the >little hip molecular ep< (af05), with a successful remix by beliayeva. now they come together with >acting sane<, a sweet electro excursion through dusty fields. john lord fonda, the french sensation from vitalics label citizen records, is also back on absolut freak after having done the very first remix on af01. this time, he gives a new huge remix, with even more melancholy and an amazing break. just brilliant! then, the latvian producer max brannslokker (author of some masterpieces such as the incredible >lust< on salto recordings, or >transition< on boxon records) delivers a great funky-beat version with his special jazzy vibe. back side, nicolas chenard comes again with a powerful techno sound on a smashing remix. at last, tristy nesh offers a new demonstration of his unique dirty loud sound with >turkish bass<, a dancefloor killer with no concession. vinyl lovers can enjoy the artwork by falk klemm from the zonders with a pantone color on the cover. already supported by david carretta, donovans, da fresh, teenage mutants...

after taking a break for more than 6 months bukaddor & fishbeck return with 2 quality tracks. >camino< unites tight and loose aspects in an exciting modern way of club music. the track works on more than one level and incorporates silly little ghosts of sounds and massive basslines and last but not least: a lot of profound sound shaping. >physx< on the b-side is much more warped, moves in way of a snake, does is surreal dreamlike and still makes these brave cuts that throw you back into life. at times this track seems to be quite dadaistic and maybe this accounts for the most experimentell track they have ever released... but it would not bukaddor & fishbeack if this track did not have a atchy clubby side to it.

after the very well-received work >in g< borngräber & strüver have not been resting on their laurels but made >reise< (journey). they extended the concept of >21th century electro motoric kraut< on the new album >urlaub< and added their preference for disco music. like a friend of the label said: >reise – sounds like a composition for the 20th birthday of carl craigs planet e<. borngräber & strüver have consistently worked on developing their minimalist compositions without taking into consideration conventions. the nearly 17-minute >reise< that starts extremely held back, grows into a groovy trip you can hardly escape. >berlin tribal music< has a radically minimalist approach and a surprising break like a portal to a parallel dimension. the last part of the album >dancing queen< has nothing to do with abba. the piece is a missing link between electronic h-pop and groovy club sounds.

when we heard pompeya for the first time and were told they were from moscow, we were like: - what!? are you kidding? this is probably the first russian band singing in english with such a classy brit touch and male vocal being very strong and sophisticated at the same time. they jestingly describe their style as >melodramatic popular song< and >cheenese< is indeed a very dramatic piece with simple yet powerful composition and lyrics that really make big sense. the original is very well supported by a bunch of remixes each of which is unique on its own. an-2 & samos come with a warm, relaxed and funky instrumental version which is followed by a blockbuster mix from moscow disquo maestro leonid lipelis (an entirely perfect dance version of the original that could ever exist) and finally, for those few sirs and mesdames who are not yet aesthetically satisfied and who still find themselves seated while others jump and shout, here come d-pulse with their paranoid mix that gathers the thunderclouds to the full darkness and - at the end - lets the revival sunbeams break through.

we are happy to welcome a new artist into our family. young jose pouj is one of the new emerging talents from the spanish techno scene. his speciality is hard edged techno, but with a touch of class. a sound carefully crafted and skilfully developed. his blood poisoning ep starts with waken, a scientific techno number with a solid rhythm arrangement, fat basses and sharp synth workout, a funky electronic steamroller designed for body and mind. the b side opens with sepsis, a harder approach to modern techno with a strong drum programming, sweeping drones, an arpeggiated bassline and a bunch of bleeps that appear and disappear throughout the arrangement. an anabolic track that slowly goes to a mental break and turns once more to madness. the release closes with organic return, where the main course is made up of carefully programmed synthetic drums, till an emb-flavoured bassline comes into the track, reminding us of the good old pulsinger style. summing up, this is the work of a great young producer that injects new blood into our label. watch out for forthcoming adventures of this new talent.
