diva is a project which explores the outer regions of technos psyche - combining the trippy sensuality of chris & cosey with the brutalist analogue aesthetic of the likes of robert hood or liasons dangereuses. inspired by the vocal histrionics of strobe lit sirens such as loleatta holloway and jocelyn brown, diva calls on the protean roots of basement club music. lead track >paris stabbing< is a stunning excursion into motor city madness, abstracted disco vocals clash with a broken digi-arpeggio and hooverish bass break down, whilst the flip side >but i ve never< imposes a detuned synth siren over an industrial bass sequence and sp1200 piano stabs to eerie effect. also included is the >paris stabbing (beats)< which pares down the original, adding detuned melodic percussion into a minimalist after hours tool.

lowriders is back after a well deserved summer break and the massiv doshy release. aleph, russian youngster, ivan erofeev, who has travelled form siberia via omsk to st. petersburg delivers a fab ep moving between styles. it is a bit house, some boogie flares, it is crooked as a hoop but for most fresh. aleph released on the great canadian label king deluxe two acclaimed digital eps with a big remix from distal on the last one. limited release of 200 numbered copies.

van bonn returns after his release maserung on telrae in april 2011. van bonn has been in the studio a lot since then and has worked on a number of tracks that are highlighted here. onwards i is an excursion into sound. it starts with sounds that interact in a subtle way but then as if by magic, suddenly it rises to a much higher energy level, almost pulling you by the hair. chords now kick in with the full force of brutality, like the strikes of london’s big ben and then you’d think the track will just burst. van bonn makes another turn before he lets the drums break loose. it seems as if van bonn is taming the brutality and direction of his electronic machines. abstract now meets the concrete and whoever wins the fight is up to the listener to decide. the first remix comes by raffaele attanasio who has had considerable success with der pianist and i m a jazzman and has collaborated with trapez ltd artist mihalis safras, a. trebor (trapez), as well as claude young, nic fanciulli and has shown his versatility throughout the last 3 years. juan atkins recently featured raffaele attanasio remix of no mans land by a. trebor in his charts.his remix for van bonn keeps up a strong beat programming right from the beginning. a beat monster so to speak is alive from the beginning and kicking. the track is written in a style that shows expansion and contraction and through that shows an organic breathing quality.

djulzs bass culture records revisits home soil with its forthcoming work ep, from young parisian techno gem, john jastszebski. bubbling under the radar whilst building support through residencies at paris social club and rex club, jastszebski received affirmation for his early productions from the likes of luciano, richie hawtin and agoria. flash forward to late 2012 and djulz has snapped up the talented producer for a four track ep, backed by a bonus remix from chicago born, detroit raised house don, delano smith. the work ep is all twilight silkiness, the skill behind the alluring, forward thinking construction instantly inviting you on the journey. from soothing piano riffs to tribal drum work and allusions to mother nature, the work of both jastszebski and smith on the remix maintains bass cultures tradition of technical clarity and creativity.

ltd nice price copies !!! new project by damian schwartz !!! sam the mummy lives in the deepest catacombs of his existence. hardly ever he can be seen on the surface and just a few ones have the >honor< of knowing him. even stranger it is his relationship with damián schwartz, the only person allowed to listen and disclose his awesome and disturbing works. here is the first one: untitled1 (mupa008). it starts with cradle, a brief but captivating prologue. and from the cradle to the grave, here comes untuned (interview), where sam introduces us in his most personal universe, crumbling his darkest secrets. soon we can see what hes up to, because despite of appearing as a hard and cold guy, on the very first beats he reveals pure soul music. tireless groove with magnificent salsa touches, bittersweet cymbals and congas that run with an intimidating elegance. on b side, pharaon s cat introduces stand up. little by little, it steps into a background of hypnotic and jazzy sequences accompanied by aristocratic piano notes that try to break into, but can only go out on tiptoes. so smart and so danceable at the same time.

this twentieth 3024 release is by my friend trevino. i am particularly proud to put this out because it was trevino (aka marcus intalex), who signed my very first tracks and gave me my break back in 2005 (a 12 inch called get down on his label revolve:r). in the last two years he has started taking his techno more seriously, writing new tracks at a very fast pace. i am glad people are taking notice of his music cos he is the real deal and it was tough picking tracks for this release cos he is making so many! ultimately we chose four that would clearly showcase marcus different sides and styles. so, seven years after my >get down<, i am proudly presenting the mighty trevino with his >tactical manoeuvre ep<.

we wish there were more moments like the ones that madis ones new 12 inch, in the image (blnk-27), brought to mind. >the hotness< is just that, a mechanical, bass driven, hip-hop cut while >the abyss< recalls the days when the amen break and substance reigned over celebrity status. available on 12 inch vinyl, cut at 45 rpm. we recommend trying these out at 33 rpm as well!

paper recordings continue their journey back to plastic with another vinyl release once again proving why they remain one of uks best loved labels. jamie l is a mysterious figure of undisclosed origin and history who fits in to the moodymann / theo parrish mold of heavy future disco, which his new production >(what we saw) in the burg< nails. it is a heavy leftfield groove laid over broken house beats with a filtered bass, samples and leftfield vibe. the detroit pad creeps up to the break and filters in and out as the track works its way through for locked down dance floor business. next up, havana candy breaks out the analogue and takes things deeper and techier. with a rolling bass and tweaking acid line, it cuts to a rhodes before filtering down and riding back to the heads down groove. cottam steps up for paper for the first time and demonstrates what all the fuss is about with a very special mix. clocking in at 9.41 it is deep, tough soulful house that crosses the 4/4 divide from techno to disco and deep house to soul.
