new zealand based ebm auteur body beat ritual makes his debut on bergerac with an incendiary ep of full throttle intense dark wave bangers. growing up in north west england immersed in hardcore punk and rave culture led to musical experiments and body beat ritual is his unique splicing of both aesthetics. using a combination of hardware, audio samples and midi sequencing, body beat ritual reclaims the moment when underground musicians in manchester, chicago and ghent put down their guitars and picked up drum machines and sequencers bringing the intensity, rawness and aggression of the band environment to the dancefloor. mortal sin is a certified smasher. absolute dancefloor decimation whenever its played out. no more description necessary. no mercy evokes the lost boys vibe with an equally high octane raw workout. trent reznor meets jeff mills at a daf gig on a flatliner. the ep closes with body politics which lowers the tempo to a chuggier zone, with an ode to female empowerment which keeps up that body beat pressure and intensity.

hybris is a state of dissoluteness, of loss of control, of greed and of lustfulness. following that motto, wice takes his listeners on a journey through a hybristic process on his second steinlach ep, which chooses an enchanting and euphemistic entrance into hybris with absent (no aggression). gentle pads create a peaceful and dreamy world that is turned into a fascinating landscape of sound by trippy drums and dopey synths and so pushes wide open the gate to hybris. the threateningly booming hb11 then finally enters the state of hybris: synths and drums pump adrenaline in heads and bodies, dancing turns into greed, the complete lack of control sets in. that lack of control riots towards its peak with the eponymous hybris, which tears the listener in technoid and gritty manner into the abyss of hybris and holds him captive down there. hybris is followed by nemesis, the divine punishment ending in death: wice interprets this transition towards nemesis with hertz, a playful and breaky good-night kiss, which feels pretty damn good and resonates bittersweetly.

the inimitable seth troxler is next up on his own influential label with something of a milestone release: his finally physical ep is a precursor to a compilation album, this is then, due in may this year. this is then will be a typically unique celebration of seths 10 years as a major force in the europe underground scene. it will draw a line in the sand on the first part of the michigan born artists recording career before he embarks on the next chapter. this preceding ep features four productions that were never properly released and they serve as a taster to the forthcoming compilation, with two originals and two remixes, one of which comes under seths lesser used alias, thrill cosby.

shadowy multidisciplinary artist & videographer denial.of.service returns to film for an extended ep of wrought iron electronics, channeling the spirit of classic electro, industrial & noise. the artist, active since the 1980’s producing video work for a host of high profile names - including not least david bowie, currently transmits sporadically from an undisclosed location, though contemporary work has appeared on the creators project, as well as making the vimeo staff picks on an almost regular basis. recently, video commissions for minimal wave & jealous god affiliate in aeternam vale have ap-peared online, showcasing the artist’s trademark crushed, hallucinatory visual aesthetic.

scotland s premier electro alchemist is back on shipwrec and this time flying solo with five shards of sharpened machine music. beats rain down in solid sheets, a hail of drum patterns pelt and pound. acid scorn, speeding snares and scorched sound roar and rumble in the menacing -days of rage.- the 12- hisses and howls, sending forth a searing line of percussion as gears crank and grown. -glasgow to detroit- is just as fiery, scorn and sparks leaping off burning bars. aggression is always at the surface, and behind the razor rhythms lurks a palpable paranoia, as in -daisy cutter- or -uprising.- the only respite comes with the complex and textured -stones and sticks.- harsh mechanics from an industrial heartland.

the second output by the russian project syberian transmits the dimmed depth within coniferous roots. according to political aggression against the resistance of good will tribe and instead of conformist pollution this sounds are unfolded to attract a classy intelligent energy. suitable for home sessions or insular movements.

it’s in the depths of the oceans that pierrox finds his inspiration for this ambient music. he uses natural sounds (like whale songs for example) to take us on an abyssal trip between purity and aggression. two talented producers, nutia (german) and shcaa (english) take us back to the surface with their minimal tech-house remix.

terence fixmer his known in the late 90s , early 2000s as the creator of the tbm, described as techno body music. a mixture of the ebm soundscape with the modernity of techno. his muscle machine album (including tracks lile electrostatic, body pressure) released in 2001 became a reference of the genre. in 2003, musician terence fixmer and legendary singer from cultissism band nitzer ebb, douglas j mccarthy embarked on a project that spearheaded the fusion of techno and ebm. they named it fixmer/mccarthy and they were the precursor to a new breed of techno artists that manage to traverse between an array of scene specific genres without being tied to any. since releasing their first album, >between the devil<, in 2003 terence and douglas have ridden the line between pure techno and the recognizable song structure of classic electronic music and ebm. now, with over 13 years working together for this project and playing around the world, they return to their signature raw sound and delivery. >so many lies< is quintessential and brooding techno, while the instinct mix epitomizes their ability to craft a catchy bubbling baseline whilst all the while dispatching cold steel aggression.

slovenly recordings presents a new black jewel in the rough from australia: melbourne scuzz squad pronto, and their self-titled lp will steal your purse n pills before kicking holes in your speakers! pronto hits hard from the gate with a rare breed of aggression that mercilessly attacks your better senses with scraping vocal chords, three or less guitar chords and brash, unrelenting rhythmic fuckery. this decroded piece of plastic devolves from hammering rock n roll into psyched-out meltdowns, never neglecting the breed of anthemic choruses that were perfected during the first wave of uk punk in a twisted post-punk application. pronto is making good with ruthless threats of thuggish damage. they’re knocking at your door, and you need the hurt.

iyewaye, oliver koletzkis first release after the autobiographical i am ok album, introduced a new facet of the artist’s sound. the ep catered to a darker and more raw aesthetic, a direction followed and deepened by the four remixes. first up is the title track iyewaye, turned into a lengthy tech infused introspection by hatzler. loosely centered around the initial vocals, loco & jams makeover explores the tracks captivating snappy narrative. the more rhythm focused ipuza gets a special treatment from hidden empire who dial up the aggression of the percussion. zakari & blange downplay the tracks initial exotic elements, focusing on the rattling synths and giving it a late-night dancefloor rework.

moscow017 sees archie hamilton release his first solo ep on the label since it s creation, five years ago. the opening track was written at the end of a summer season spent in ibiza s cala vadella. it s intricate bass, percussion and emotive tones capture the mystery of this beautiful part of the island, putting the listener into a hypnotic state over it s 12 minute journey. contrarily, 21514 was written in the uk during the spring (the clue is in the title) micro house percussion is paired with dreamy synths and growling bass in perfect harmony to create 7 minutes of wonder. romania s priku lends a hand on the remix, adding a sense of dance floor aggression but without loosing the original character of the track.

montreal-native tazz delivers new kanada three jacking and psychotic beat trax for an aggressive entry into 2012. tazz and bacanito unravel the threads of aggression in the lead cut >cosmic sex<. metallic heavy machine funk for those winter nights. >wanderer< is a late night ode to model 500, with waves of synths burrowing into the ground to produce a dark wave classic. cold, pure and supple. >mermaids and mermen< is is the tough club killer in the package. a deep tricky dub transforms into an underwater symphony of rusted hooks and fm pads… a serious lights out, head down burner.

after being wowed by christian smiths superb remix of carl craigs >at les< the legendary underworld listed it as one of their tunes of 2010 thereby planting a seed in the veteran producers mind. a mutual appreciation and the aforementioned events have resulted in smiths biggest remix yet – the reworking of underworlds seminal >dark & long<. coming in two versions, both of which have won immense support from the band themselves, the christian smith remixes of >dark & long< take the track in to new territories respectfully and skilfully. the tronic treatment mix preserves the vibe of the original perfectly while adding a condensed but slow burning feeling of tension which explodes into the epic break we all know and love. the hypnotica dub version underpins karl hydes classic vocal refrain and the rich synths of the original with an ever-changing, guttural monster of a bassline that adds a whole load of understated aggression without ever taking over the wonderful melodies.

engage ep includes the title track and remixes of selected works from the album including a remix of >kurzweil< by renaissance man, a remix of >non-aggression principle< by my favorite robot,and >take me to your leader< by pink skull (rvng). >engage< is currently being highlighted on european radio. it has a classic bowie style vocal feel with some nu-disco charm. one of the great tracks on the full processory album. the entire collection from the >change is gradual< full album to the 3 eps are not to be missed.

new kanada wades deep into the white waters of bass for this black summerdub. >my best dress< is a tough, confident jacker with awesome, mystic vocals by rosina of lal. 808 thumps, moog whispers, and a serious cr78 swing – nicholas murray (aka murr) really massages the mixing board on this one, and the resulting production shimmers with unexpected aggression. adams remix extends the raw groove into a 12-minute journey that beats the wooden floorboards into pleasant submission. disco hats, b52 bass lines and suburban base drops – the new feel for the old style. new kanada goes blue.
