i-robots is an alias of opilec music boss gianluca pandullo, a long time dj and producer with a penchant for classic techno and electro cosmic disco. for his next project in the esteemed i-robots reconstructions concept series the italian re-edits some classic material, all with the permission of the original artists. the tracks in question are derrick mays hugely influential *emanon* cut, recorded under his rhythim is rhythim alias and originally released in the 1990s on his own seminal transmat records label � one of the most important imprints in the early days of techno alongside kms and metroplex. the second track � which was first released on metroplex, the label juan atkins founded in 1985 and then re-released and reworked on sound vision - is *game one* produced by the legendary juan atkins and orlando voorn as infiniti. the latter of these pair has already released a number of times on the opilec music label.

more than six years into his career after several eps and a full album, there isn�t much known about ben gibson, and he is clearly keeping it that way with intent. gibson first emerged on jeff mills� experimental, influential 6277 sublabel but then again vanished into the ether, he only reappeared three years later on perc trax, even more surprisingly with a full-length. since then, he�s gone on to steadily more notice with perc�s imprint, sect records, and most recently m_rec ltd in spite of the continuing lack of information. exposure isn�t the most important thing for us at chronicle though, and after hearing these five tracks, we saw exactly what it is that drew mills to him from the beginning. it is a sound that we find a perfect fit for the techno futurism of our chronicle series, and here we offer a platform for gibsons more sci-fi, ethereal sounding material, exclusively on vinyl for the fifth edition of our sublabel.

the latest offering from san franciscos icee hot label finds the young imprint officially welcoming another artist to its gradually expanding roster. that said, contakt isnt exactly a stranger. the michigan-reared, new york-based producer is one of the founders and resident djs at brooklyns turrbotax® party, which has long been a sort of sister party to icee hot. contakt has previously released music for respected outposts like local action, grizzly, and dutty artz, but nobody else and tessera 04 find him taking an important step forward as an artist, delivering tunes that are richer and more really realized than anything from his past. particularly on nobody else, contakts flair for big-room melody remains intact, but he takes notes from classic kms, filling out the songs cresting synths with a full-bodied bassline, a hooky vocal sample and a sturdy rhythmic underpinning. tessera 04 goes deeper, channeling maurizio while delving headlong into a dense cloud of synths and maintaining a steady sense of forward momentum. on the flipside, icee hot resident ghosts on tape continues his recent hot streak, infusing nobody else with punchy drumwork and a potent rave sensibility. detroit legend robert hood then rounds out the release, transforming tessera 04 into a pulsing and purring slice of heady analog techno.

the story of bonobo is one that has become uncommon in contemporary music. there was no sudden, viral internet sensation, no one-off big hit, no abrupt, accidental alignment with the zeitgeist. instead, over the course of four albums, myriad tours, singles, remixes and production work for other artists, he quietly but very definitely became one of the most important artists in electronic music. the hard work paid off, and culminated in 2010s black sands, a masterful album that married greens inimitable melodic genius and musicianship to bleeding edge electronics, bass and infectious drums.

upon the first listen, the work of fernando unfolds directly on your brain and leaves a long lasting feeling of drama. fernando pulichino is one those lucky guys who can pick up any instrument and write songs without breaking a sweat. he first caught my attention with a remake of the bauhaus classic kick in the eye released on redux in 2008. he then backed up this great start with releases and remixes for labels like international feel, under the shade, internasjonal and nang. he also very busy touring as part of the 2020 soundsystem band and he is also in silver city with julian sanza.
we decided to put together a long player to highlight the talents of our man in buenos aires. the construction of *float* reveals an astonishing wealth of musical ideas, brazen touches of new wave and icy modern disco sounds are evident throughout. low slung basses are also a theme that runs right through *float* whether it is the opening song *a place* which has a monster electronic bottom end or *from out there* which sits firmly on the punk funk dinner table, bass lines are clearly important to fernando.

the prism is an aluminum cube, small enough to fit in your palm. it was designed by nicolas jaar as a new medium for releasing music. the first release - csa001 - features twelve (mostly) unreleased songs from jaar and other clown & sunset collaborators. the prism is a piece of art in and of itself, its contents beg to be shared. twin headphone outlets encourage connections to the object and between the two listeners. the prism tries to restore physicality to the listening experience. the medium and the method are as important as the music itself. the prism makes you consider how the music is being heard, the way the object feels in your hands, and its potential to foster intimacy between listeners. when the prism is unplugged, a beam of light passes through the empty center, revealing a void. someone is missing.

ilario alicante might well be best known for his previous releases on big room labels cocoon and cecille but preconceptions can be misleading. here on sudden drop we plough a deeper furrow, not ones for hands up in the air shenanigans we prefer to get our heads down on the dancefloor for some serious introspection, which is why this 3 tracker from the italian born ilario finds its way onto our label. echotechno is indeed a main room slice of stomping techno but with that oh so important moody vibe that we crave here at sd,rouge dub on the flip delves deeper with an exceedingly trippy soundscape whilst untitled drop rounds things off with a spritely techno groove.

(1999) and i want you(2000). he has also recorded with warmup, fieber, rainwaves or shareware records.at the end of the ninetees groof shared quite unusual with oscar mulero: the start of a deep friendship that nowadays brings us wu30 mini-album.

leading deep house connoisseurs and creators of hold youth records seuil and le loup, gear up to unveil their labels debut ep >classics< � an excursion into blue-eyed soul and hip-hop infused grooves. retaining an element of mystery and authenticity, hold youth will be a vinyl only label, keeping it strictly underground. an outlet for seuil and le loups own productions, the label will feed on their musical inspirations, and nurture homegrown talent while exploring a range of sounds and styles, from hip-hop and soul through to house and techno. hold youth is also the name of the dj duo and their residency at social club in paris. >classics 001< is a split ep with two offerings from hold youth on the a-side. the first track >nautil us< is a rework, which modernises the 1974 >nautilus< by bob james while >paname< focuses on the solid underground house style with that all-important french touch and a sprinkling of nyc. on the b-side, seuil delves into funkadelic, hip-hop influenced waters with >khemestry<, which pays homage to trankilou and j. dillas deep side. le loup rounds off the ep with a track rooted in cuban salsa, but with brawny beats and a modern hip-hop twist.

justice, the french duo formed by gaspard auge and xavier de rosnay, is the band of a whole generation. when the two friends were still bright students in graphic design, in 2003 they made justice a place to experiment a hybrid genre between music and image, which blends pop and electronic borders, and showcases the talents of 2 fascinating passionate pop culture craftsmen, bored with hierarchy. they met pedro winter who had just founded his label ed banger records, he immediately signs them after listening to >we are your friends< which, with its joyful and vitamin-enriched electro beats combined with exhilarating voices, became the hymn of a whole generation and one of the most important tracks of the year 2000, celebrating a reconciliation of pop music and the dancefloor.

15 years have passed since alex cortex began to create his own vision of electronic music - timeless and beyond trends, without a buzz or hype, steadily winning the following of djs and home-listeners, collectors and critics worldwide. his style can be described as unpredictable to a certain point, while maintaining high aesthetic standards. playful with quotes and references, always low-key and focused on psychedelic immersion into sound that shifts the attention from the artist to the music. kihon is a very personal effort, as suggested by the self-portrait on the cover that puts ear, eye, and mouth -reception and production- into context. the carefully elaborated design of this gatefold double lp speaks as a whole and in true minimalist fashion about the passing of time, without ever declaring nostalgia to be a means for itself. this also reflects in the music. alex cortex evades large gestures and obvious quotes, but is certainly conscious of locating his album within a framework of references to other works of electronic music that are important for his own musical evolution. in 11 nameless tracks, kihon takes us on a journey through organic worlds of sound that invites us to flow with the music and connect with the feelings contained in it. the title kihon that relates to japanese martial arts translates to basics or fundamentals, the training of which does not even cease when reaching master grades. those basics that are passed on beyond time are also the foundation of this album. by concentrating on the bare essentials, the music begins to speak, turning the album into a harmonic whole. kihon therefore is also a return to listening, away from a utilitarian perception of music as a background sound. this does not mean it would not work perfectly well in a club context -in the right hands it indeed does- but more notably, kihon is a work of art worth your attention and destined to stand the test of time
