give the lord a round of applause, for he keeps blessing us with such great talent. new amsterdam producer making waves! after simon weisss amsterdam wave debuted on the rh amsterdam all-stars compilation at the tail-end of 2011 (an updated mix of this tracks is included on this release), he now returns with his first solo ep for the label. and what a first solo release this is. he literally has up bouncing up and down at the office for weeks with this four tracker. with his wave ep simon delivers a tasteful and fun package. four house tracks that ride the thin line between retro and current, without trying to sound like either one. conclusion: this young buck has arrived and brings along his signature sound.

first up is tabou for the people by sofrito specials featuring l barrabas which twitch edited for his dj sets a couple of years back. the lovely people at sofrito kindly gave permission for it to be included on this release. its a relentlessly driving slab of 4/4 afro funk with horn explosions. next up is the 10th and final track in twitchs cumbia series. the first 8 were released on japans lets get lost label and the missing number 9 is being saved for a future release. colombias cumbia was born out of african influences. this track is based around a sample from colombian cumbia legend andres landero and is an attempt to fuse traditional cumbia sounds with up to date production styles. the end result is a slow motion hypnotic cumbia retaining the haunting melancholia inherent in the original sample. leading the aa side, twitch passed a wild highlife song by ghanas atakoru manu to glasgows super talented auntie flo (whose highly recommended future rhythm machine album recently saw a release) to play around with. auntie flo cut it up and added additional drums and bass to come up with this euphoric modern highlife groover

rosario born argentinean franco cinelli has been firmly rooted behind the decks since the tender age of 14. drawn by the call of the drums and having researched the creation of music through computers and samplers, the mid 90s saw cinellis first productions taking shape. rapidly becoming a key player on the argentine scene, franco played throughout the country, holding a residency at the prestigious el sotano. his first forays to europe came in 2003, but it was 2005 that his own music really made an impact. having released a handful of releases and mix compilations on smaller labels, it was his picaro ep with bruno pronsato that really brought him to the attention of the music world. since then, franco has gone on to release and remix for a number of established imprints including ilian tape, produkt, claque musique, hello repeat, airdrop , international freakshow, alphahouse and the label of his great friend kasper, esperanza. in 2011 following his critically acclaimed >planet dub< debut ep on bass culture records, franco cinelli finally achieved global recognition with his massive underground remix of cassius >sound of violence< that placed strongly in many of the end-of-year top 10 best remix of 2011 lists. today franco returns to bass culture records for a new take on his trademark deep & techy house with 4 original tracks on the >take me back< ep

played and supported by luke slater, dvs1, laurent garnier, adam x, marcel fengler, samuli kemppi, inigo kennedy, jeroen search, truncate and more. asr is a record label with a strong inspiration in cosmology, physics and science fiction. with one foot in detroit and one in birmingham, asr is getting the techno in its original form beyond fads. we are believers in the true conception of electronic music as artistic expression and as message. our first release is also the first volume of the series vla, named in honor of the radio telescopes system in the very large array of new mexico (usa). radio transmission true to the sound of detroit and influenced by idm and the birmingham scene, radio trasmission presents a crude and analog sound, sometimes simple and sometimes twisted, synthesizing unconventional elements of the dancefloor with complex sounds and structures. the first track,grote reber, works around the omnipresent tr909 and the classic dx100 solid bass sound, building a powerful and effective track. in interferometry, a heavy and deep sub bass, leads the track around dub and post industrial ways. cyg x-1, is the only track that isnt 4x4, with noisy and punchy stabs all around, this works perfectly late in the night and in more uncommon sessions. the last track,vla is more melodic and relaxed. it is the perfect end for the whole record.

bokhari records is a vinyl only label. bokhari has been inspired by mo wax of old, and firecracker of present where care was/is also taken on packaging and design. each release will feature a different illustrator / artist for the design. musically we will aim to stick loosely within the realms of house and techno, but often with our own slant on it, and as the first release shows, in this case will include some afro percussion and a touch of acid. bokhari 001 only 300 copies will be pressed. artwork for release 001 is by the excellent illustrator andy potts (former head of design at abbey road studios), and every single vinyl will be signed and numbered. remix comes from the ever consistent mark e, who has taken the shrunken head bassline and made a 10 minute druggy, chuggy, loopy, creepy monster (and anything else you want with a ‘y’ at the end!)

straight from buenos aires, brimful of sun, comes brouqades latest release. nina soul convinces with his intense, pulse-pumping house productions. pushed by an extremely funky vocal, >feel you< rolls in on a wave of gentle piano chords just to capture you entirely by concentrating on its crystal clear, cracking beat. >to me< interweaves smooth groove with finest old school elements, discretely tightening the track with acid vocals in the fill, to end up cool and relaxed, pouring out into balmy summerparty nights. in >try to pretend<, the dark, metallic sound encounters melancholy female memory on a sigh (well...). faster looks at the matter more pragmatically. in his remix, his focus on sound and mood creates a hypnotic track - entirely devoted to the dance floor and to the children of the night.

rob was an enigmatic recording artist from ghana who cut two albums for the legendary essiebons label in 1977. neither of these were big domestic hits at the time and have since become prized amongst collectors in recent years. the title track from this lp was always one of the most popular on the first soundway release ghana soundz and over the years soundway has been asked many times to re-issue the lp in its entirety.

jay west from argentina has been releasing quality deep house (the real sort that is) for the past decade, last years smile ep on bebr got some serious playlist and chart action from everybody who knows their shit, and were please to welcome him to the moodmusic family. the ep starts with blame the music, the sort of feel-good house music we used to get loads of in the early to mid 90s from the big apple. swinging beats, almost disco bass and a sunshine filled vocal are the ingredients for a tune, and jay has delivered one. this will probably not be belted by the kids house community, but real heads knows what to do with this weapon. down continues the journey with victor simonelli style keys and a bouncy bassline, making place for the low-slung in & out tune which have some serious west coast mushroom influences. we love it! to end the ep the catchy little mean machine finally brings the smile to your face.

nastic aka marco nastic has been around the scene for over a decade and for this soweso release this internationally acclaimed dj teams up with dutch underground newcomer rik woldring. on the a side they bring you our love, a driving melodic techhouse track with a warm, sexy and dreamy vibe to it. a2, just us takes it a little deeper. this detroit influenced track is a perfect track for late in the morning. flowy, deep, but with a solid low end are the key words to describe this gem. on the flipside this package also features two remixes by mike shannon and upcoming dutch artist prunk. hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

may 2012 sees the 8th release on krd, picking right up where the label was at with its last release a year ago. >bilal / spider< introduces the new project on land, a solo vehicle for label head edoardo arengi, who previously was in charge of production duties of the shadow sync releases. the title cut >bilal< again attests to edoardos technicall skills - almost twenty years of production experience do indeed show here. a strong minimalistic groove unerringly aims at the heart of the dance floor, and once the classic ride cymbal comes in, >bilal” is sure to have the people moving. for the flip, label owner and producer edoardo arengi teams up with a young gun of berlins techno scene. >spider<, produced together with rudmatis, to his dj-peers known as rødhåd of the dytopian music collective, goes for the darker end of the floor with a hypnotic bassline and slowly modulated sequencer lines. once you are caught in the net, there is no way out!

following his release on peter van hoesens time to express late last year, sp-x drops his third ep for komisch. fans of >signal path experiments< and >field lines never end< will not be disappointed as the brussels - based producer serves up three more slices of uncompromising warehouse techno. lead track <the escape< has all the sp-x hallmarks - rock hard beats, thundering claps and a swinging groove that underpins eerie riffs and clanking metallic drums >stalker< reveals a more musical slant to sp-xs sound. it starts off with unsettling riffs, but soon the rolling drum-led arrangement changes tact and provides the backdrop for a growling chord climax. there is a similar concession on >attack pattern< bruising doubled-up drums and that unmistakably snappy sp-x percussion combine with subtle snare rolls to create a peak time arrangement. but once again an insistent chord sequence gives it the edge over functional techno. make sure to hunt this killer release down

keeping up their ethos of dancefloor >edits with the love left in< hmd bounce back on a1 with monster from their 3rd compilation. never before released as a 12 inch and much in demand from djs who have heard it in hmd sets, its a whole horse meat disco original track laid out underneath the original vocal acapella. playable peak time or at the end of the night its as deep as disco gets! on b1 a majestic and imperial take on a classic one more time the hmders push the way too short original track and lengthen it into a luscious, euphoric anthem. hmd take all responsibility for end of the night spontaneous dancefloor hug-ins. on b2 the boys have taken the squelchy synths of a real underground track and turned up the intensity that they felt seem to disapated in the original. keeping the vocals pretty much as they are including all the whoops and yelps that make the track so exciting hmd have stayed true to the original but have just given it the horse meat touch. a bit of added percusion and a whole lotta love.

i am a pianist, composer, improviser, performing artist and a multitasking musician in life, currently living and working in reykjavik. i was born 1978 in seydisfjördur, iceland and have been playing the piano and keyboards since age of 9. my main focus and interest is in improvisation, composition and performance of music. how improvisation and composition can meet effortlessly as a creation of musical ideas and sounds. i am also thoughtful of the general passion & drive behind creation of things, in what way they are presented and passed on to people, in music, arts and life in general. since childhood i ve collaborated with a whole spectrum of artist, from obscure troubadours in the countryside to stadium bands, covering all fields og music, both in iceland and abroad. i have also composed and arranged a great deal of music for theater, film, art installations, performances and videos of all kinds. released my first album rask in 2002, and now i am currently composing and working on a series of records with solo piano music for radio bongo with improvised piano works i (broadcast01) as the first radio bongo release.

part 3/3! close your eyes and let go. born in hannover daso enchanted us with this track. it is constantly building up until sunrise. this is how we got to know daso when he was playing his first gig at a treibgut getting our guests up and going. in hannover this night is known as the topless-party-animals-night. not many are as familiar with the treibgut sound as mario aureo proving with this tune. a year ago it was all hands up at treibgut but know we set it free to be passionately celebrated at other parties. leave the orchestra in rehearsals – until they have finished we keep on celebrating to the deep bassline for the plane has just landed. moritz approached this tune verytooly. we just remember him setting up stage for the party, ordering pizza and watching football. frieder, our youngest member, never looses the concept of time and spaces but this track has so much atmosphere in it that you can imagine which cloud he is on. the track comes in easy-going leaving you floating to the end

first up is 92, a straight up jacking deep house number with, as the title suggests, a retro flavour. the deep repetitive pads are jacked up with amen break style drums that were used so widely in electronic music back in the 90s. some quirky synth lines and vocal licks here and there give the track its touch of soul and then a fat bass line to bring in the bottom end. high quality simple yet effective house music...

in no other year was the end of the world as fashionable as it is in 2012. but while roland emmerich has to dig knee-deep in trash and throw millions out the window for special effects gimmickry in order to bring drama to the screen, it only takes sierra sam a freshly made studio in our comforting berlin-based upon you refuge. a newcomer to our crew, this belgian producer and label owner of toys for boys has already established his own decade-plus career, and his experience shines through clearly on uy059. the title track welcome to the blackout holds up not just on great production, but also from the mystical vocals that paris the black fu offered for this release. thats why weve included the a cappella as a digital bonus, for the more adventurous djs out there. for the flip side, sierra sam picked his english cohort inxec - already known for his numerous releases on labels such as cocoon, cityfox, contexterrior and currently crosstown rebels - for a fresh remix. closing track chambers seals the deal on this singing, ringing hit plastic disc that no survival kit should be without.

following up on his 2010 madhouse pop gem >someone out there<, aka jk (a.k.a. jonathan kreinik, new york producer extraordinaire and long-time live sound engineer for the rapture) returns to throne of blood with >2600 2600<, the title of which may or may not reference a famous analog synthesizer. an appropriate title, as synthesizers indeed abound from the start, flooding the low-end with disorienting deep analog washes before the utterly-infectious vocal enters and the party kicks off in earnest.

the detroit threads team is at the center of a community of vinyl enthusiasts that take pride in their individual approach to sound. this community struggles to keep their vision alive though the warmth of the medium that holds a special place in the heart, vinyl. as the electronic sound evolves new faces and styles emerge to challenge the establishment. detroit threads hears those voices and works to give them a platform. hou531 and .kite were chosen to represent detrot threads, because they are the yin and yang of the detroit dubstep movement. hou531 has a rambunchous method of creating grinding dubstep that is a release from a lifetime of detroit pressure. where as, .kite uses ethereal synth ambience sprinkled lightly with drum and bass to create an environment that is both sad and beautiful. these artists are under the radar, but by no means are they irrelevant.

as hot as ever the new ep from our siberian disco friends is finally landing into theomatic’s catalogue. the title track solar wind is a rhodes driven hands-in-the-air early night anthem: simple yet powerful, just the way we like it! the flipside features an offbeat cosmic number “planetarium” which sounds like a perfect soundtrack for some colourful sci-fi cartoon about the early years of space exploration, with all those rockets, flying saucers, stars and comets with long tails. the bonus track (available as a digital download only) is named after the soviet moon exploration robot vehicle lunokhod 2 (’moon walker’ in russian) which was sent to the moon in 1973. being rather minimalistic at the begining it slowly evolves and reaches its apogee closer to the end with calm and beautiful melody which leaves the listener in a peaceful mood

following a busy year of stylistically varied releases under various guises on his own magic + dreams label, ralph cumbers delivers his first long-player for punch drunk. with a title lifted from the lysergic prose of a brian aldiss novel and grooves informed by the loopier, more martian aspects of chi-town jack and detroit techno-soul, >reeling skullways< marks a subtle, but highly alluring development in the evolution of cumbers primary recording project. long-term bass clef fans may be surprised by the lack of samples on this album, and in many ways it follows a similar creative process to his recent work as some truths, with most rhythms and textures sculpted from the raw, elemental waveforms of modular analogue synthesis. but with tighter editing, contagious melodies and perfectly positioned drum patterns, the end results reveal bass clef simultaneously at his most stripped-back, focused, playful, complicated, emotional and irresistibly groovy. unfettered by fashionable production tricks, imbued with a timeless machine-soul heart, >reeling skullways< is one of those albums you will be reaching for again and again.

we celebrate our number 30 with a double pack, featuring one of the creators of techno in spain: groof.roberto gemelin, from madrid, is groof. hes robert calvin too. no matter which of his alias you know him by, hes one of the most active producers in the madrid arena.aka robert calvin, he released materials with turbo (tigas label) in 2004, having previously collaborated with star whores in a joint release with alek stark (2002). also important are the remixes he did for disko b or for sindicato records and msx, paying tribute to megabeat with his recreation of the great classic strange.his background as groof is even more extensive, as his early steps go back to the times of minifunk (the cheeky and shameless label from barcelona that was then managed by omar and dj loe). with them he recorded mambo! (1999) and i want you(2000). he has also recorded with warmup, fieber, rainwaves or shareware records.at the end of the ninetees groof shared quite unusual with oscar mulero: the start of a deep friendship that nowadays brings us wu30 mini-album.

all nite ep is the young mancunian waltons second set on hyperdub, after his very well received walton ep debut for the label in 2011. title cut >all nite< kicks it off with warm plucked strings, diva moans and lazer-like synths stretched to the point of anticipation over cracking grime handclaps and bass drums, until the track drops into a blocky bass line playing hide and seek with low arpeggios that spiral in and out of the mix, over a giant pounding metallic kick drum before layering on the warmth again. the whole track plays with a fine balance between warm, disco-like lushness and exuberant roughness. >mallet< is driving and darker, building detuned, bell-like tones over a 4/4 beat accented by breaks and fills and gaps, dropping into a big bass line and syncopations that disrupt the beat and bring the drama. >kush< is different again, taking the pace down with low end, synth hip hop with glassy chords, running over woozy pitch shifting rhodes chords fed through a layer of crackly gauze.

coming not so far from the alps, opuswerk is a new talented artist in love with hardware equipment and already got some strong producing skills. the charismatic tall guy is a main actor in the renewal of the techno scene in geneva,throwing parties every week-end hes got a residency at milk club and will also open up for carl craig at electron festival yep opuswerk knows how to move a crowd. the a-side features futurewerk,the first of a collaboration with london based techno outfit fundamental interaction, is a raw dubby influenced track where chords and rhythm clearly aim for the dance-floor at 3am,or later depending on your countries going out habits. on the b-side,th13-13 is a flashback to the mid-90s,a squirting bassline with bleeps and blops,it plays subtly with a syncopated rhythm section and discrete chords. pure hardware jam!comes in 180 grams of black wax,carefully mastered at d&m,berlin. full printed sleeve designed by frederic laborde.

2012 is the time for john lord fonda to come back to the light, starting with a huge techno ep >bang the fire!<, including two original tracks bang and >heaven s on fire< both with a minimal techno imprint. this new release is the first extract from his forthcoming album, scheduled for 2012.
>bang< open the tracklisting, a classic john lord fonda track, energetic like always as even if he takes time, he drives us in the end in huge orgasmic breaks, quite intensive…,. then we continue with a kazyo (from teenage bad girl) remix that delivers a dancefloor epileptic killer version. electric rescue is fascinated by the energy of techno music, so he did a very minimal but powerful version.
