having previously released on appian sounds, fred p’s boards and efdemin’s naif, o.utlier debuts on sze with an exploration of reflections and resonances in the self from objects and experiences in the environment.
the a-side features “eastbound”, a breakbeat driven slice of techno built for the club, charging forward on a journey through dizzy pads, bouncing oddball basslines and textural pressure. next up is “letat”, an ambient breath of air, both melancholic and uplifting. the b-side strides further into the unknown with “rhodesamp (whacked out revamp)”, a transmission of dubbed-out meditation. rounding off the release is “ava”, a hypnotic wedge of dub techno with a middle eastern feel.

steffi occupies a unique space in the realm of contemporary electronic music. although she s a world renowned dj, steffi s musical interests reach far beyond the dancefloor, and it s her work as a producer that has established an impressive, hard-won legacy. soon after moving to berlin in 2007, steffi joined ostgut, becoming a resident at panorama bar and releasing on the club s label. to date she s released five albums, including two solo for ostgut ton, a co-production with virginia, another with analogue cops as third side and a collaboration as doms & deykers on martyn s 3024 label. her impressive discography features club classics like “ yours feat. virginia” , carefully chosen remixes and appearances on labels including permanent vacation, underground quality and mixes for panorama bar and fabric. she owns and operates four labels: klakson (with dexter), dolly, dolly deluxe and dolly dubs. world of the waking state is steffi s third solo album for ostgut ton and a musical departure for both her and the label. it s also a serious statement of intent. over ten tracks she embarks on entirely new electronic terrain for her productions, marking industrial spaces with superlunary warmth while exercising a refined knowledge of polyphony and arrangement. subdued melodies interact with each other over implied harmonies and microcosmic drum patterns, luring us into a world that is introverted, bewildering and gratifying all at once.

exclusive title so what is it exactly that has locked me into this? which one is that magnetic hook? how many grooves are in this? simple questions, but those always lurk on our minds when we are alone with these four bombs on this ep. thousands of noises, peeps, beats, strums do also make us delirious. and think the mind behind this music tries to imagine a world before house and techno, while being actually well informed about those nasty styles. these exceptional works come from jimmy winkles slater, a guy running our favourite radio-show on this side of milky way greta cottage workshop with onlyz world is much happier place now.

the tenth output of invite’s choice records is another hard hitting banger made by border one.
drumrim’s straightforward four to the floor kick is accompanied by a hard hitting bass and a repetitive leadsound that evolves throughout the track. the overdriven hihats and rides combine well with the panicky sound. diffuse goes along with the flow set by the a1 track, yet has a bit more percussive feel to it due to the toms added.
hatchet on the b-side provides an aggressive kick and percussive elements. the sound evolves around one overdriven synth sound that drains you in to the track. perfect for fast transitions while mixing. copylust ends the ep a bit slower bpm wise, but emits the same energy as the previous tracks. straight-forward, hypnotising, hard hitting contemporary techno.
another great showcase of the talent harvested by invite’s choice.

having helped launch the sugarhouse label with his paradise forum brethren, jamie paul gets a chance to show off his talents on his debut 12inch, adding to the labels already impressive catalogue with another swathe of classy house jams with a modern twist. double g definitely sports the chops for the peak of the night, but it s also shot through with a welcome weirdness and a fuzzy warmth that should find favour with a wide range of djs. even so is a more laid back, bumping affair that matches the smooth finish of the a-side, but says something different altogether. label mate maurice jnr meanwhile serves up a remix of even so that nudges the delicate tones in a techier direction

dubtraxx is new on the scene, as is their label rhythm n vibe, but don t let that lull you into a false sense of security this is seriously heavyweight gear. soundbwoy request is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. towards 99 is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous a-side. the 2000 tribute mix of next millenium meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you d expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

2017 altenative label art ... after his critically acclaimed frustrated funk releases >alsoran< and >vox automaton< in 2007, gerard hanson returns to la familia frustrada to drop yet another selection of his finest material. again 2 releases. this time starting with harbour city sorrow followed later with a 12 inch on frustrated funk. >lunar ruins< shows his deeper side again with skillfully crafted tracks loaded with fragile moments of elegance and beauty. the title track is already known from his amazing live sets, and was recorded around the same period as >alsoran<. typical e.r.p. basslines combined with tear jerkin strings. with >into the distance< gerard shows his love for the early dmay sound and programming style. the final track >mimosa canopy< is an experimental minimalistic track with warm pads, clean production and lots of tweaking freakyness. great release again from our humble texan friend.

three years in, blackhall & bookless jaunt label is becoming a serious force for forward thinking, fractured techno exploration. on this split ep with chad, the duo take the a-side and present two different versions of links. the battle rework is a tense and dramatic tumble through dub techno soundscapes, while the bleak remix pares the elements down to a more focused, minimalist thrum. chad presents a wholly different vibe on the flip, using rich, warm synthesiser tones to draw you in to afters, and then scenery regular asok takes up remix duties on the track with an immersive version that borders on breakbeat.

after an impressive debut secret society return with a quality packed ep for the labels second release. ss02 features four cuts that cover a range of driving dubby deep house side by side with loopy vintage grooves. crisp drums and raw sounds are part of the recipe for this sureshot

rnt welcomes upstart londoner cody currie into the roster with the groove-heavy movin smoke ep. a precociously well-developed production talent, the young producer puts his penchant for deep house sample-scapes on full display here. from the blissful lilt of the title track to the creatively crafted jazz funk of infinity i & ii through to the b-side bangers make love and magic city, this record is a beautiful listen from beginning to end.

vinyl only – after four first releases by myself, i invited three of my favorite producers and friends to take part in the first various artist ep of the label called retro future. a1 is provided by stevn.aint.leavn from the beste modus and certain circles camps. i ve been following stefan closely since the release of his big track -precious- and he is now making waves everywhere. for this record he provides -motion- a smashing house track that enlightened every dance floor i dropped it on. then comes alix alvarez, a real underground hero of the new york scene. he s been releasing tunes since more than 15 years, collaborating with mr v and franck roger. alix delivers the tune -no chaser-, a stripped back, deep and driving number that he is known for. the kind of track that made his reputation. on the other side of the record you ll find paolo rocco. he is the man of the moment, fresh from great releases on taverna tracks, rutilance or courtesy of balance to name a few. here we have -7284-, it has been a true favorite of mine over the last months. finally i round up the ep with -belle maison- a new jam i recorded a few months ago featuring an engaging french speech, mpc beats and fb-01 synths. welcome to retro future chapter one.

fully tapped into the true us tradition of soulful house music, riccardo masi has been delivering the goods for the past couple of years to labels like uzuri and his own wrong notes records. on this new single the good vibes just keep on flowing, kicking off with erik rico s on-point vocal draped over reaching. rico also forms the centre point of -no one else, another masterclass in pattering drums and honey-coated keys. tortellini jazz shores up on the b-side, drafting in paolo campani to lay down some sultry sax tones over the mellow chords and playful rhodes trills

a second release for londons future primitive records brings to the fore a new hand-picked selection of hard to find if not overlooked tracks from wolfgang voigt, dj guy and fernando corona, aka murcof. all of the music to feature on this four-track recast ep was previously subject to tape or cd only release. lifted from his only album as love inc., wolfgang voigt s income sits primo as the a1, holding firm 22 years after its original release. predating voigt s work as gas, its caustic chords, shimmering melodies and chilled 90bpm vibe render it a production borne from the classic dub techno blueprint of the early-to-mid 90s. an early take on slo-mo techno. the dat tapes of dj guy have again been raided, with future primitive joining a select cast of followers to rejuvenate the englishman s productions with an edit that appeared on his tape for crisis urbana. both b-side tracks botas de oro and secondary inspection theme come from murcof s one time terrestre alias, a project from the earl 2000s which fuses textural, slow-motion and minimal house sensibilities with mexican banda and norteno music aka nortec, a micro-sub-genre to come out of tijuana. loose percussion, swung drums and winding rhythms are made all the more esoteric through the subversively climactic nature of terrestre s music.

lady chann & rapha team up for ‘hard drive’… the uk’s ‘number one dancehall queen’ returns with a storming carnival heater called ‘hard drive’. ‘back it up, hard drive’ is the command from the lady on this minimal dancehall rhythm, which packs in solid sub-bass, a bark, and some well-placed/spaced-out percussion. the producer is the bern, switzerland born and raised raphaël ‘rapha’ gasser, who became hooked on dancehall after hearing a mixtape by berlin-based supersonic sound and has gone on to collaborate with the genre mainstays like i-octane, sheba, kiprich and more. on the flip b-side is the remix by newark-based jersey club original r3ll, upping the bpm and sure to keep forward thinking dance-floors bubbling. kick n clap is the record label founded by django django’s dave maclean.

dalmata daniel s next up is a collaboration with the bristol-born „weirdo disco guy- antoni maiovvi and also a contribution of heinrich dressel who is an unavoidable column of rome s electronic music scene. maiovvi s pleasure model project is all about youth – replaced by blade runner-esque replicas. his first release under this moniker was „kendo dynamics- on 100% silk in 2016. it aimed for presenting a persuasive world of fiber optic paranoia and technoid effacement. dd006 is the next level of the concept and the first time on vinyl. the tracks are driven by the characteristic haggard drum machine s sound on side a with a melancholic or dark synth themes what becomes a dreamy melody in the „prism riot- on side b. the remix by heinrich dressel is a turn back directly into the darkness, but it is faster and more like a film soundtrack with his own characteristics, of course. the whole ep has a strong vintage mood and sound. it can be said that update 1.1 is definitely dystopian, coming from the future of our past.

spatial cues is a series of split singles sounding out main(void)’s and kon janson’s shared musical space. operating out of berlin and london, the two artists join forces to showcase their mutual vision of techno music. cues003 explores the darker side of the series with a focus on low frequencies, echoing percussions, and vast spaces, evoking a deep introspective motion. diffracting a manifold of sounds around its massive kick drum, cues003 a builds and releases tension through a dramatic sequence of smooth swells and intense surges. grounded by its captivating groove, cues003 b evolves around the sinister funk of fierce fm bass stabs, leading up to a powerful break that introduces a razor-edged hi-hat.

madteo continues his assault on banal club music on the second issue for his own imprint, m.a.d.t.e.o records. hacking rhythms chug across side a like a ghost train creeping through the toxic haze in search of its next passenger. flip over the wax for a descent into the sub atomic - harsh ambient frequencies orbit gut-wrenching bass. seek shelter!

just over a year ago cassy embarked on her largest and most personal project yet, her debut solo album donna , released on revered imprint aus music. since then, cassy has put out a string of remixes on powerplant, turbo, echoe and watergate, plus a track on muna s latest va. throughout this period, cassy has also been in the studio working on new material, the first of which to be released in september, and is titled cassy 004 . as the title infers, cassy is reawakening her self-titled imprint she created in 2006, and has had three previous releases until now. with no plan or set schedule, the remit was simply to release her own records, when the time is right, and the quality is high. the music always reflected the quirkier side to cassy s club tastes. and 004 continue in this vein. it perfectly encapsulates the sleek and hypnotic sounds of the harder end of her dj sets. the tracks are titled one and two , with cassy giving one a reshape to round off a trio of cuts aimed at the dancefloor.

wow. now we re talking, all time classic material right here from the strictly archives. the legendary man of many hats armand van helden dropped this almighty, hypnotic slab of deepness under his mole people guise in the mists of 1995. a total deep house classic indeed. dreamy, driving, dubby, hypnotic, narcotic - it has it all. super long tracks, for the dj s to work and for the dancers to get fully lost in. break night is colossal, this one will literally transport the dance-floor to another dimension, guaranteed. sounding as fresh and as relevant as ever. timeless. ocean on the flip steps up the toughness factor with some super hard, swingin nyc drumz, but it still has that otherworldly edge that the a-side drenched us in previously. a near perfect record here, made available again, undoubtedly this will win a new legion of fans it s that good! this one s a tasty 2017 reissue and remaster, featuring both cuts, unedited, as per the original release way back when. essential stuff here. do not sleep.

moscow rolls through with a collaboration from founder archie hamilton and musical genius benson herbert, from kerri chandler’s protege duo, voyeur. two original tracks, remixed by the legendary 100hz. the record opens with the wonderfully trippy systim. a driving bassline, barely recognisable vocal snippets and groovy organic percussive elements dance around a haunting piano riff that ebbs and flows throughout the track. tension builds until a second acid bassline is finally revealed, causing dance floor madness. next up herbavibe combines a big bassline, dreamy chords, hamilton’s trademark 303 and a catchy vocal hook to create a certified summer anthem. 100hz uses the entire b side to interpret system into a more classical workout, using the piano elements to their full potential and using minimalistic percussion to keep the listener enthralled. an after party gem that completes the package perfectly

as with his previous offerings - that have found a home on the likes of red rack’ems smugglers inn, horn wax, ruff draft, plus his co-owned end of label boss imprint – cyclonix continues to explore the deeper and more leftfield spectrum of underground dance music with a futuristic vision. made up of two original tracks, ‘alien drug store’ ep draws on a host of electronic influences ranging from deep house to detroit beatdown, alongside subtle hints of acid house and dub techno, whilst both retain the producers trademark sci-fi aesthetic. the release is completed with a sterling remix of ‘you’d better not’ from a pioneering legend of the uk underground - 4hero’s marc mac, under his nu era guise. heading up the a side is ‘you’d better not’, a slow-grooving techno cut bolstered by punchy kicks and a rubbery bassline, where foreboding sci-fi vox samples are interspersed with dubbed out chords and crunchy offbeat snares, as the arrangement shifts from one mood to another. the sub-aquatic vibes of ‘two face’ follows, which is set to a hypnotic two chord pattern, 4/4 kicks and a lashing of moody synths that gradually entices you into deeper realms through the aid of rippling hi-hats and rhythmic percussion with a submersed quality. on the flip is marc mac’s nu era take on the 12”s lead cut ‘you’d better not’, who transforms the menacing original into a blast of uplifting broken techno, where the soulful musicality of sustained strings and piano chords complement snippets of the original’s vocal sample that drifts atop adept drum programming, bouncy synth bass and a flurry of glistening synth melodies.

the wrdubs split series is back serving up both sickness and slickness on our 4th plate to date. pon a side duties t.a.r drops a beautiful mindfuck of a track. the crafting of the bottom end of this tune is pushing next levelz while the mids and tops are full of unsettling rattles and insane voices. really not like anything else atm this tune will stop em in their tracks. progression. flip to the aa and vgb drops some sub-soul for us. robust bottom end and drums supporting a melody that addresses our need to escape the sometimes narrow musical boundaries of dubstep. expression.

after 2 first eps in 2016 on voxnox & arts digital, the young berliner talent opål comes back on the new swiss imprint bipolar disorder. the silem ep demonstrates opål’s ease to encompass both energetic, raving, or deeper techno style.
the main title “silem” takes the listener right away through a melodic journey aiming to warm dancefloors, followed by the dubbier, more classic/chilled “capillaries”. “cadmium” gives acceleration again on the b side with its stomping bass, before to close with “solar”. never forcing the audience, opål cares for details and atmospheres. his ability to experiment and blend genres insures him a unique signature in a driven, puristic, dub, leaning toward hypnotic style.

romanian artist dragutesku’s “convalescent” steadily builds from clicks and crackles to full speed rumble, squelchy bass paired with spacey pads and crisp percussion. cali native rithma responds with “watsonville”, thrusting the ripped-cone kick to the front before the softer side slides beneath the rhythm for an all-night drive. russian producer saktu starts the flipside with “veidi”, a neon-soaked breakbeat floater pulling the low end out for the midsection’s chirrupy synth-chat before turning on the jets. from berlin via budapest comes giash’s “new things”, a frictionless ride on a hypersonic rail across a bubbling, tonal landscape.

cult duo rework are next up on my favorite robot with a five track ep that shows off their brilliantly inventive house and tech style. the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler deal in left of centre and freaky house with a mischievous afterparty slant. they have been active for more than a decade now and have credits on great labels like visionquest, items & things, meant and the institution that is playhouse. the brilliantly sleazy “talk it off” opens things up with popping drums, playful lyrics and a steely sound that is designed for wonky basement parties. “valencia” goes deeper with warm drums and synths surging along next to an elastic groove that is propped up by energetic and incendiary chord stabs. it’s a subtle but high impact track that will raise the energy levels on any floor. “think about you” has vocals coated in echo and delay and trippy synths that are lively and off kilter. it makes for a track that is brilliantly loose and undulating and cannot fail to get under your skin. final track “attractive” heads in a much more techno direction with surging drums and hypnotic slithering synths that burrow deep into your brain and seep into the night. it is trance inducing for sure, and shows another side to this accomplished outfit. this is a versatile ep stuffed with killer cuts for many different moments in the night, and each is as standout as the next.

for over forty years, the apostles of aba have stood as the jewel in the crown of the music scene in eastern nigeria. since their formation in 1973, the band has turned out memorable performances in a variety of styles including rock, soul, funk, pop and reggae. even today, the apostles continue to thrill audiences in their hometown of aba with dazzling shows. cultures of soul is proud to present one of the apostlesã more obscure¨yet relentlessly funky recordings in a full-color custom reverse board jacket. banko woman, originally released on the eponymous lp on love day records in 1977. straddling the world realms of afro-funk and disco, the track has long been a coveted dance floor filler amongst djs, and for the first time is available for a wider audience. on the b-side is faith, luck & music, also from the original banko woman album.

naoki e-jima s disc shop zero record store in tokyo holds a special place in our hearts. since before idle hands was even established, when rooted records was king, the cosy, liberally stocked shop has served as a sympathetic outpost for bristol s rich culture of soundsystem music. over the years, naoki has championed all the best music to come from our fair city, from smith & mighty through to pinch and pev and on to the output from our own humble label. it s been a vital connection to help our music reach the right heads on the other side of the world, in turn providing a platform for our most treasured artists to gig and further the cause of the music we love. as a thank you for all the support naoki has shown bristol music over the years, idle hands has put together a special tribute 10inch of tracks that chime with his particular musical tastes, shining a light on some complementary gems that might have otherwise never seen the light of day. its also a chance to fill in the missing idle013 catalogue number – fortunately, the number 13 does not represent bad luck in japanese culture. on the a-side, the mighty (pun intended) rob smith takes to a track from outboxx s debut album, originally intended for a remix 12inch that never came to be. in his learned hands, lost soul becomes a shimmering stepper marked out by beautiful cascading arpeggios and of course plenty of fulsome bass, with arresting fragments of vocal drifting in and out of the mix for good measure. rob s status as a true legend of bristol music needs no explanation, but his presence here is furthermore because naoki is such a fan of his music. on the b-side, atki2 makes a welcome return to the label after bringing a classic ray of sunshine to idle hands on the second single we ever put out. as well as being a big release for us, it was apparently huge at disc shop zero, so it feels right to bring the effervescent hes royal to this 10inch release. with a sunny disposition at heart, these two tracks make sense sharing a 10inch, but it s even more fitting that they sit side by side as we doff our caps to a true hero of the global underground. thanks, naoki.

with the second release noland tracks moves from nigeria to poland: non human persons saturn melancholia is an early song of the polish band based on guitar & voice + processor, recorded in warsaw some years ago. with their remix gebrüder teichmann turned the song into a sacral techno anthem. a deep and dark trip with nico in the heart and mdma in the blood. the b-side features the original track plus a beautiful hand carved image by brenda alamilla.

welcome -into laniakea-. we are proud to present our first release: -160 mega parsec- as a various artists. different artists to represent the variety of universes we have in our supercluster. with artist on board such as passenger, caseer and voiture, transonic flow and diffuse arc, this is a versatile record. the a1 starts the journey with passenger, the italian artist gives us a spacey and slow electronic track with a moody bassline, perfect to introduce the label style. the a2 is more a bouncy housy acidish track with a weird vocal coming from the french and dutch duo. it drives from the start to the end with groovy bass and low kick perfect to kill a dancefloor. on the other side, you have a dreamy electro track from transonic flow, german duo from hamburg composed of koloman trax and hitekjaz. the b1 is a pure gem with its melodic yet rhythmic lead. they told us it has been club validated! the last track is from no one else than diffuse arc, who searched his tapes and hard drives to send us some unreleased and hidden tracks. the result is a deep and groovy ballad with acid bassline that will suit every music lovers. you got it, -into lanieakea- is all about groove and spacy dreamy tracks. we trully hope you will get touched by the vibe and the love we put into this record.

fourth chapter of the italian label dancing like quagmire. dlq s ever growing family welcomes polish newcomer primo ultimo and italian duo calma (sorry for this records owners and harmonized residents) as remixers. fasten your seatbelts and you ll fly away into a cosmic journey through space and time riding primo ultimo s flight simulator. flight safety instructions: a1 is the title-track born to be an helpful party banger with its uzi-like snares and overwhelming synths. in a2 again the flight simulator but slow down time, thanks to calma s analog arsenal the sound gets deeper and warmer. on the flip side the b1 is azure vibes a clapping tropical house jam with breakbeat reminiscences. the final destination of this trip is the b2 bilbao where equilibrium and melody are king and queen remembering that joy is an electronic thing.

with his newest ep goa tee, moscoman finds himself seven releases deep into his 12 part treisar series. living up to its name, the seventh piece of the puzzle is the trippiest of the series yet, kicking off with some of my fears, a piece if outer space hypnosis carried by a rolling percussion and bass combo that will keep firmly stomping across dancefloors. reflecting the mood set on the a side, moments in space sees moscoman channel his italo flair while reaching out for a rave indebted sonic palette. final track chinchilla closes on delirious sounds and 8 bit melodies rubbing shoulders with a lovingly syncopated beat. a weapon all exotically inclined djs will be reaching out for a their next jungle party.

on the prowl appears to be on a roll with its new found artists. following up robotalcos success on the previous otp, giorgio lands himself in anthem territory. the a1 track >more heart< is big, catchy, and totally feel good house vibes with disco styled horn flourishes. the a side inside cut >basement 6d22< takes us near kerri chandler with delayed brassy chord stabbing and long organ pads. flipping the record over reveals a stunning slo mo disco house workout, filled with jam style organ riffs and amazing synth horn parts. for b2 we get a perscription style deep house track with all the right dark drifting chords. excellent release.

4 techno banging tracks by uk legend ben sims, on the a side rippin & skippin is this relentless jackin heavy techno jam. gamma ray subway is a funky hypnotic and repetitive jam that can somehow be pictured in a jeff mills set, while on the b side it s acid attack! the stalker is a darky heavy monster, while acid od is a dope and raw acid jam.
