naif 009 is the second in a series of five eps that are released around the release of the dj-mix-cd also named naif which has its release in april 2018 the second strike comes with two superstrong techno tracks: lean forward is a contribution by nihad tule that wil burn the dancefloors. followed by not now, not yet, a scratchy track from the hands of one half of cassegrain: rhyw. side b heads into trippy territories with a heady, sparse but seductive groove by marco shuttle followed by a track from efdemin in a collaboration with his close friend and fellow konrad sprenger (pan) after more then three years of silence as a producer, efdemin a.k.a phillip sollmann returns with a striking hybrid concept that merges the album format with the continuous dj mix format, presenting completely new material in a seamless manner. the cd-mix, named naïf, officially reinstates his label of the same name and is a sprawling tour of inner space featuring 19 distinct tracks from fellow producers along with an additional ten that feature efdemin himself (either as soloist or collaborator). the release condenses his decade-long dj-ing journey and evolution as a producer into a single potent elixir of contemporary techno. naif consists of completely unreleased material from both himself and valued collaborators, all of which will eventually manifest as ep releases: five on his own naif label and two more on curle.

twin tribes is a dark synth duo based in brownsville, texas. formed by luis navarro (vocals, guitar, synths, drum machines) and joel niño, jr. (bass, synths, vocals) in 2017. they gather their influences from the dark side of the 80s. darkwave, post-punk and cold wave are only some of the genres that the band summons using analogue synthesizers and drum machines, bass and guitar. dark melodic sounds, lyrics of the undead, the occult and parallel universes are what conjure twin tribes.

roy davis, jr. s undaground therapy muzik label relaunches after almost 20 years with al zanders guidance ep. al zanders approach to his first ep of 2018 is as precise as it is whimsical. featuring 4 tracks showing zanders sheer versatile when it comes to making music. opened by piano-percussion track martha s revenge which is made so clearly for dance floors, followed by television, a chance for a closed- eyes boogie be it on a dance floor in the middle of a set, or on the sofa at home. on the b-side, likes for cash s comedic title is met in contrast with a piercing synth top-line and stripped back drums, with just enough of a bassline to sit in-between the drums and synths. closing the ep is guidance, a reflective and a chance for the ep to close as well as it would close a dance floor when the lights come on at the end of the night.

gothenburg based tora vinter brings a sonic journey of two genre defying tracks to bror06, coming from releases on her own my sonic mountain imprint and remix work for fever ray (rabid records). arriving from an impression inspired by female characters of one thousand and one nights, tora starts the ep with the emotive morgiana, presenting minimalist layers of classy percussion over an eight minute bassline workout together with veraluz�s impassioned vocals. following up the a-side is the lush and evocative sheherazade, bringing the listener from atmospheric soundscapes through suggestive drum patterns - featuring a spaced out, stepping remix by dj lily.

recorded in philadelphia in 1969, the deirdre wilson tabac�s sole album is a beautiful blend of funk, jazz and soulful pop. possessing the complex grooves, thrilling breaks and ethereal weirdness that the rotary connection pedalled so brilliantly, the lp failed to connect with audiences upon its original release.
in the decades since, it has deservedly attracted a considerable cult following. however, almost inevitably, it has become increasingly tricky to pick up a copy in good condition for anything less than eye-watering sums. as such, we�re delighted to present the first officially licensed vinyl reissue of this undoubted masterpiece of freaky funk-rock, limited to just 500 copies.

norwegian duo ost & kjex make a welcome return to crosstown rebels. their private dancer ep is a masterclass in producing dance-floor ready rhythms. they welcome fellow norwegian whalesharkattacks to the mix to provide her dark yet dreamy vocals. we had a fascination with tinas private dancer since first being exposed to it by pat sharp on sky trax in the 80s. whalesharkattacks personifies everything thats cool about the 80s, so when we met her we knew we had to cut a version ost & kjex private dancer is as dark as it is melodic, with eerie drum pads and a medley of dreamt synths. norwegian vocalist whalesharkattacks, whose music has been described as 808 goth, lends a distorted vocal. on nightingale a burdenging bass adds a sense of urgency interlaced with vocals reminiscent of the 80s era. cosmic synths float side by side samples of beautiful bird song. a titillating work of art with a mesmerising beat.

minuendo keep things interesting on this latest various artists 12-, primarily focusing on owen jay and brian james on the a side for two tracks of adventurous experimentation on the wild frontier of minimal house music. the wobbly synth running through -niko s groove- is a real head turner, while -imagery- nudges the grand tradition of dub house into a new pocket of ambience that draws you in immediately. there s a lovely, classic deep house joint from untitled called -seafood-, and then blue vulva & the electronic crooner completely flip the script on the b2 with rowdy acid burner -vulbitch bazaar-.

the mythical liquid pegasus returns - this time on clandestine boogie, firmly setting out his stall as one of the best around when it comes to modern synth boogie. �makin it hot opens up proceedings, synth stabs and squelchy basslines a plenty, married with layers of intricate melodies and a vocoder transported straight from the 80 s. matt hughes takes on remix duties converting that squelchy bass synth into a more straight up funk bass guitar, adding shuffling high hats and weaving in a little jazz flute for added effect. on the flip side it s prime low rider cruising courtesy of sparkle combining a full-bodied bass, cosmic pads and woozy synth flurries to create a soundtrack perfect for late night coasting. to close out the e.p. dave allison adds his own sparkle to the track, upping the tempo, adding a range of hazy arps and sweeping synthesis alongside a perfectly executed bass breakdown, taking sparkle from midnight cruiser to boogie bomb.

suction records is proud to present ii - a new, archival ep release by italian duo d�arcangelo. we like to think of ii as an imaginary sequel to the duos classic 1996 debut ep on aphex twins legendary, now-defunct rephlex records (also reissued on suction last year). just like their debut ep, the material on ii was recorded in the �90s using hardware synths, samplers, and fx. also like their debut, ii similarly features fierce, crunchy industrialized electronix on side a, backed with melodic, robotic electro (the darcangelo brothers call these tracks their diagrams) on side b. four of the six tracks are previously unreleased, while aom2 (an absolute monster rephlex-style distorted beat track) and diagram ix (a timeless slice of early-human league-style synth pop) come from long-out-of-print 90s vinyl comps on eclectic records and suction records, respectively.

weapons of mass destruction was one of the last eps by nur jaber , which is best known in berlin for its residence at the techno-matinee staub . this could be heard slammender, dry techno with sometimes disturbing vocals � hope sounds different. more precisely: hope sounds like the first longplayer of the native lebanese. if only � a state of peace still carries a conditional in the title, but the music on the nine tracks speak very directly of a better world. inspired by the herbaceous-cosmic sound of the berlin school, ambient and ambient techno in all its facets and the friendlier side of the artificial intelligence tradition, the osf unites-mit operator on their debut album a variety of styles, which are translated into an equally sensible as multi-layered narrative. peace, that would be something for a change.

word of advice to funk lovers, there is not a minute to lose. get on board of the big hustle�s spaceship. before we take off, let s do a little history. the band was founded in 2014 by bass player and composer sébastien levanneur and its aim is to bring together 70 s old school funk with the hippest actual sound laced with influences spanning from steely dan and headhunters, to snarky puppy and soulive. with mighty horn players, a rock and funky rhythm section, the big hustle s music has a very large variety of soundscapes. the first destination takes us to the washington, d.c. area with �turn up�. the groove is clearly go-go music flavored with the trademark sound of cowbells and of course it reminds us of zapp by the use of the talk box on lead vocals, performed here by saad el garrab. and don t miss out shaun martin (snarky puppy, erykah badu, kirk franklin amongst others) as a very special guest performing the talk box solo! second stop is �a curse, a blessing�. it�s an instrumental very much in the freddie hubbard vein during his cti years. the last leg of the a side ends with an instrumental interlude titled �flying donut�. double tribute to jay dee and flying lotus, the music is a simple hip hop loop based on samples. the b side takes us back into the past with two brilliant covers, involving rod temperton the late great british songwriter who scored some of michael jackson s biggest hits. now the idea for this b side is to do the opposite approach from the a side. taking 70 s and 80 s original music and make them travel into time to 2018. we first land with a heatwave song named �the star of a story� from their 1976 central heating album. track 2 is a herbie hancock song named �gettin to the good part� from his 1982 lite me up lp. this time traveler ep journey ends with an interlude. called �gimme dat�, the song deals with the need of new music, new sound. again, this blend of deep rooted funk laced with a contemporary edge is to be consumed without moderation. and do not forget that e.p. also stands for extended pleasure.

gerry read steps up for the sophomore release on finns 2 b real label, mass media - four booty-indebted house tracks, as freaky as they are straight-forward. the a side lurches into action with a huge buzzy bassline on mass media, followed by eerie pads, pops and whistles on big boobs. the b side provides some breathing room with dreama that girl�s spacey chops and sauntering bassline, before pinky reaches a bouncy filter-house climax to close the ep.

mad dancer ep is freda�s second offering through sydney imprint moonshoe records - the record maintains the raw crunchy nature of his debut whilst he progresses into more dissonant atmospheres. wobbling jazz loops guide the a side through 2 up-tempo yet calming house tracks. the title track mad dancer is kept alive by crunchy, swinging hi-hats and bouncy synth melodies. smoking causes is a slow burning take on disco. on the flip (breakfast) is the curveball of the 3 tracks. a darker mood is established before a syncopated break drives the ep home, exemplified by a sliding dissonant synth melody.

the artist run gallery schloss, inhabiting the space of a defunct porsche repair shop in oslo, has birthed a record label under the same name. run by the visual artist ida ekblad and the dj/ producer karima furuseth. the first release is by londoner max fowler,who has a certain affinity for ageing samplers and dusty samples.the b-side features a remix by stockholm mainstay and, among other, the trilogy tapes-affiliate samo dj. mixed and mastered by matt karmil.

eshu, the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm, joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album, senang, and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side, uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip, jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all, the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.

joseph white aka joe white is a foundation of jamaican music. he started singing in the late 50 s and did his first recordings for duke reid in the early 60 s. while disco sound was bumping into jamaican people mind, he formed the group roots, trunks & branches to release several tracks on the label splendour heights. �rising / power disco power� is taken from the album the weak will be strong released in 1978. a beautiful extended disco reggae tune mainly played by joe white (drums, piano, vocal). this issue was fully remastered on a disco 45 vinyl record to give respect to the dynamic. on the other side you will get the reggae lovers roots rock tune �ain t no way / the monster�, an extended version with deep dubwise. you ve got it!

the second release on kons officially licensed kontemporary imprint is here this time he takes on one of disco s anthems to devastating effect, deftly reworking sylvester s evergreen over & over. a true dance-floor bomb, over & over is just one of those records, originally written by the legendary team of ashford & simpson its inevitable that this jam oozes class. kon has lovingly freaked the original master tapes into 2 brand new, fresh versions that will undoubtedly find their way into any self-respecting disco freaks dj set. on side a we have his found a friend remix, a beautifully reimagined and restructured version that leaves lots of space and let s those wonderful strings really soar, finally crescendoing in total disco glory! it s no wonder that the mighty dj harvey has been closing his sets with this one. pure class. on side b we are treated to an amazingly bold dub mix, in keeping with the traditions of the classic labels, west end, prelude, fantasy and co, its sparse, melodic and contains just enough juice to keep the people dancing and asking for more! this is an essential official release, 2 future classic mixes from one of the world s best remixers further sonically enhanced by boston native caserta on the mix. licensed courtesy of the concorde music group.

another gem from the archives gets a much needed official reissue. the 12inch mix of you combines the original funk riffs, string arrangement and joyous piano with a squelchy lead synth to elevate the track to new levels. anyone who saw that momentous back to back between ge-ology and red greg at dekmantel last summer will know the power of this one. my music on the b side is another favourite from the diggers spiritual soul from samuel jonathan johnson, tip!

gene hunt is one of the few producers from the original wave of trax records signees that still flies the flag for chicago house with as much gusto as when he started. this is his second trip out on inner shift music, and it finds the us house veteran on impeccable form. -kayla dream- is a light, airy jacker defined by amorphous synth washes that match the mellow mood of the label. -distant voyage- is a truly standout track though, dealing in crooked rhythmic structures and channelling the techno side of hunt s muse. -open up your eyes- maintains the introspective mood, but this time welcomes some soulful vocal turns into the adventurous, machine-powered landscape.

the next release on brazil s ever-promising disco steamer gop tun comes from renato cohen. cohen has been an infrequent mainstay of brazilian dance music for a long time now, most recently appearing on kling klong, tronic and 100% pure. his releases may not come around every day, but he makes them count when they do. -dynadisco- is a spaced out slow burner with a looped up groove and simmering pads building towards a powerful, funk-fuelled bass drop. -party jam- takes a lighter approach, keeping the samples sprightly and even sprinkling a little acid magic into the tune. it gives whatever/whatever plenty to be working on their remix, which spreads across the b side in a fit of electro-disco finery.

fragrant harbour once again dig out a cult gem from the seemingly endless vaults of 90s dance music, picking up on a rare and precious gem from a seminal laurent garnier mix and giving it the remaster and reissue it deserves. the artists responsible, broccoli brothers vs righteous men, hailed from germany and were trying to emulate mike dunn. -catch it (calm manoeuvre)- is a spaced out deep house track with all the gritty impact of a classic jam, while -catch it (jam)- gets decidedly rowdy with its hefty kick, jacked up swing and wonky bassline. on the b side -ruhrschnellweg (last exit stahlhausen mix)- brings a little detroit flavour into the mix with spectacular, uplifting results.

we are happy to welcome two new artists to rose records on our first real split record. rose 12 brings two pieces from chassé. the duo from belgium adds round bass and piano to send two deep and warm tracks into the game. on the other side, which is rose 13, you find two more crazy tracks which unite funky vocals with guitars � both from gledd a recent nice and surprising discovery for us from italy. we feel that the combination of both sides represent rose perfectly � a deep and funky mix.

it s the fourth go round for monsieur blue, who steps back up to the plate with another three surefire jams from the slinkier side of the minimal house spectrum. -track 1- is an exquisite trip through blue-hued keys and shuffling drums, striking a fine balance between the lounge and the dancefloor. -track 2- takes a moodier approach, eking out mysterious chords and injecting a little juice into the low end to suit a more rugged situation, and then -track 3- jettisons the ballast and pings off into a dubbed out sphere of house music perfectly crafted for the times you want to get lost at sea.

since 2014 the innate blog has been delivering high quality slow journalism, serving up articles that shine a light on artists that have otherwise gone under the radar. four years on, the innate team has decided to launch their own label with the same stated aims, namely to showcase deep electronic music with warmth and soul, produced by unheralded heroes old and new. the labels first release a four-track, multi-artist missive offers a neat summary of what listeners can expect to hear in the months and years ahead. the ep opens with something rather special: a sparkling, life-affirming fusion of b12 style intelligent techno and larry heard-esque flourishes from debutant gilbert, a sound designer and future star from innate s home city of bristol. it s followed on side a by a similarly shimmering chunk of techno futurism from freerotation resident and cubic space collective member mark hand. formidable irish producer lerosa has previously impressed via fine releases for a myriad of high quality underground labels, so it s no surprise that his contribution to innate 001 a mind-altering, otherworldly jack-track entitled shadow is the ep s most robust and intense moment. fittingly, its innate founder owain k who draws the ep to a close. hes long been renowned for creating immersive, ultra deep dancefloor workouts, and pixeled scenery is amongst his most magical moments yet.

the third vinyl outing from lossless music�s leftfield off-shoot label features the return of elementz of noize with a stunning dj shadow meets drum & bass track called �the grand escape�. it�s 10 minutes of emotionally charged breakbeat unlike anything you�ve heard before. on the the b side label boss soul intent offers up two half-time slices of emotive electronica. �the fire� includes the amazing voice of jazz singer sula mae while �it�s ok to be sad sometimes� demonstrates yet deeper levels from the talented lossless music founder.

!! repress !! points new year, new concept: maceo plex locks down 2018 with a fabriclive mix and his new mutant series that sets out to explore the more mutated side of his signature cosmic techno further than ever before. similar to his conjure series in 2015, the new releases will reside across labels run by peers maceo respects and is inspired by, with some also featuring on his much loved ellum imprint. correspondant are proud to release the debut ep, mutant 1. three tracks deep, each version tells the same story from a different perspective, mutant disco tells it from the bassline�s point of view as a latent funk thumps with wry mischief, mutant dx shows things from melodic side with its rolling bulbous bass lead while mutant moog closes the ep by surging us even deeper into the stars with a crisp sinewy arpeggio that sucks us in and, like all card carrying mutants, refuses to let us go. time to mutate.

since its launch in 2013, bright sounds has established itself as a label bridging the gap between the dancefloor and more experimental sounds, releasing eps by the likes of shlomo, tilliander, burnt friedman or more recently conforce. on its eleventh release, the label welcomes ben thomas aka bnjmn with �final network� ep, the uk producer based in berlin and releasing on tresor, delsin, counterchange or more recently on his newly founded imprint: tiercel. the ep opens up with �reticuli�, an ambient techno journey into a forest of otherworldly sounds. �neurocity� comes next with its rattling sounds met by disorienting and spooky melodies. on the b-side �cloaked� starts off with bare kick and congos before waves of drones add textures producing an eerie atmosphere. the title track closes this ep, slowly building to create an ecstatic floating mood, leaving you longing for more as it gently fades away.

born in cameroon, vicky began banging the drums at the age of 9. by 13 he had moved onto bass and within a couple of years he was playing every night from 10pm to 5am in the castel douala cabaret. at the age of 19 vicky moved to paris to study banking and commerce and cram in even more music. he took classes at Épinay-sur-seine conservatoire music school and it was here that he met bandmates of his dikalo project. word spreads and he soon becomes one of the most sought after bass players in the afro arena. his session work features on many scenes stars, manu dibango, eko tala am, kemayo, sammy massamba, toto guillaume and many more. a chance meeting with the gibson brothers also see him play on two of their hit albums. in the 80s vicky moved to the us for spell and excels as a session bassist and touring musician. we pick up the story in 1981. with his stature as a musician and bass player riding high he takes a detour to nigeria to record with the afrodisia label in lagos. the thank u mamma album is the result. it is repressed for the first time, here in 2018 on the revitalised afrodisia label. musical proceedings open up with the heartfelt ode to his mother thank u mamma, smooth pop meets afrobeat boogie. marina driv slows things down with its smoldering jazz. side two opens with its not serious a catchy vocal number underpinned with funky guitars and striding basslines. stormy rain is lazy guitar jazz swansong. we close off the album with the ever so funky you. slick funk grooves powered along with a dose of slap bass. as a side note vicky actually plays left handed but with a upside down right handed bass. this upside-down precursor making his effortless slap playing even more impressive. vicky went on to record a two other albums and still tours and plays as an ever-in-demand session musician.
