parisian artist nautil is a music student specialising in acoustics, signal processing, and informatics. his debut single, canopée, utilises analog synths, sampling and personal recordings to emphasize the geometrics of nature and music. on the a-side the lead track, canopée, is a cavernous, pulsing, low-frequency techno colossus destined to hypnotise dark warehouse spaces. on the reverse galdae is a propulsive tecnoid tweaker while mue is designed for head rolling after hours with mesmeric synth drones suspended over a brain melting sub-bass pulse.

�love will remember pharaon de winter� is said at the end of the record. pharaon de winter was a painter from north of france, who lived from the end of the xixth century to the beginning of the xxth century. today, pharaon de winter is reappearing again. it�s a band, but also the name of a song, which changed everything for his author. past leader of both bands toy fight and (please), maxime chamoux was playing since now a genre between north american rock of spoon and neutral milk hotel, and sophisticated british pop from prefab sprout or xtc. we find today in this new project songs navigating between french, for most part, and english. partners and friends since a long time, thomas pirot at the drums and raphael ankierman at the bass are playing alongside fx guéant-mata at the guitar. we also find mina tindle and her delicate voice appearing here and there. at last we don�t forget the goldsmith�s talent of canadian musician sandro perri who�s joining the band, highly recommended by pitchfork magazine with his album impossible spaces in 2011.

emotional rescue returns to the post war music of west germany and the work of dominik von senger and his cohorts based around the dunkelziffer project. this special -sampler- ep of recordings was produced as their part in cologne s stollwerck art complex, that acted as a home and inspiration to their musical experiments. based within the disused industrial warehouses spaces of stollwerck, a mix of post-hippies, punks and anarchists created a community within that fed off each other s artistic endeavours.

over 10.000 years ago, after the last ice age, humans began to explore and settle the place now known as scotland. evidence of our ancestors can be found in the various rock carvings, standing stones, tombs and dwellings still scattered throughout the lands today. modern archaeological techniques can offer ever more detailed suggestions as to what these monuments might have meant, but it is still largely left to our imaginations to discern just what these spaces were used for.

deep disco warrior the revenge turns in an epic hypnotic mix of slow burning house nailed down by analogue bass and acid. using a filtered vocal it builds slowly as the bottom end is tweeked towards a mesmeric journey through minimal wigged out disco. sleazy mcqueen and romano arcaini turn in a disco inflected house mix with congas, spaces out synths and enough dynamics to keep any dancefloor bubbling. it builds with added percussion and a filtered pad before the lead hits the break and the track comes back in with even more wallop. drug empire is an original off the album and has had support from the likes of rune lindbaek, crazy p�s hot toddy and horse meat disco. said to be inspired by theo parrish�s productions it�s a delicious slice of bass driven deep disco with a nod to the looser end of detroit and chicago. it�s all about the fully locked in three note analogue moog bass which holds down the grooved out drums before breaking to jazzy rhodes at the end. one for the heads.

following on from the the likes of the excellent son.sine re-issue, delsin kicks off 2015 with another one in the form of micronism s steps to recovery ep. originally released on nurture records in 1999, the ep, which comes in black and limited coloured vinyl, is a bonafide deep house classic from the short live career of new zealander denver mccarthy. engaging causelss mercy is a contemplative, atmospheric affair with soft drums and celestial pads that could roll and roll forever and you d never get tired. the quiet mind is just as deep, but the spiralling pads and rippling melodies here are more colourful and charming. both tracks are hugely spacious, luxurious affairs whilst constructing space on the flip is a more stripped back and humid number that is more enclosed and oppressive for cosy back room spaces. finally, the title track is a playful, elastic house track with heartwarming hooks and pinging drums. this tasteful ep shines a light on some definitively deep tracks that really do deserve the attention that will now inevitably come their way.

emerging nyc label lost soul enterprises present hidden city, their third 12 inch release and first single-artist ep. these four tracks by brooklyn native j slusher, made in collaboration with his fellow artists in the boroughs thriving experimental techno scene, are dark, menacing excursions into after hours territory. his previous work as a noise artist under various monikers (opponents, privilege, unstable systems) informs a uniquely uncompromising take on club music. slusher takes a stripped-down, industrial approach to percussion and populates it with otherworldly vocal snippets and growling synths. the result is hypnotic, evoking the severe moods and disused spaces so vital to the secret nightlife of the city.

second reference of the spanish label sinerec. this time the hand of german quantec, momentarily abandons those atmospheres characteristics and leads to a more usual forceful style. a very clean and not too much saturation in style chords. spaces warm and very danceable. music definitely cheerful and very valid. with the chemist makes a turn to the more techno sounds where the baseline takes an important character in the composition of the track. depth flotation and lets get wasted, down a bit of character and are ideal companions in the suitcase of a dj for their musicality and cadence that will make sure, wonders on the dance floor.

corbu are an electronic, indie-rock band from brooklyn, new york spearheaded by producer and multi-instrumentalist jonathan graves. corbu are jonathan, todd hoellerman (drums, keys), amanda scott (synths, percussion), julian ferraldo (guitar, keys) and brian murphy (bass, keys). named after french architect le corbusier, the band has a strong creative aesthetic. graves writes the music from visual ideas, which he translates into sound. corbu songs are often heard partially or entirely in dreams, and are influenced by films, physical spaces and a childhood love of nature and science fiction. and it works. corbus music is beautifully crafted, taking the listener on a journey from day to night, through exhilarating sunsoaked sonic landscapes to land softly on the surface of the moon. jonathan began singing and playing different instruments at age nine, and eventually fell in love with samplers and their ability to bend conventional sounds into something abstract and new.

chasing voices breaks its short ceasefire and rearms for the 5th installment in the ongoing series of musical theses at the forefront of new york citys electronic scene. purging the emotional distance and ironic poise of an increasingly numb aesthetic culture, *awoken by tears* is the naked, stark and barren truth of a deeply sentient musical form. heartbroken and angry, this is the new techno militancy taking on the classic materials of creative drive: pain, loss, memory�those negative spaces of the human condition that lay waste to so many weak souls, leaving behind piles of dust and rubble in their path.

knox is the band brainchild of brother-sister duo nic and eliza coolidge. hailing from boston and new york, the siblings released their second ep, here, on december 3rd, and it is a big step forward for the band. formed less than two years ago, in march 2011, knox finds themselves working with the likes of john tejada and kuxxan suum on this release, and the outcome is stunning. here is five-song set full of ice and echoes. it runs as close to the third rail of impersonation, but flies away so quickly that knox sounds contextual and perfectly fresh. the influences from james blake is clear: the swooping, bomber bass and half-timey compressed dub beats, here could also easily be an inventive b-side to the latest how to dress well album. but, with the limited scale, interspersed remixes and foundling status in the scene, i would say it is likely a more impressive feat. the ep as a whole is desolate. expansive spaces filled with cold little beats and vocal washes, exploring in the course of five songs an icescape aesthetic with a sense of place usually reserved for full-length albums. the remixes blend so seamlessly that i didnt even realize they were during my first, casual listen.

seaghdha have made a significant dent in the stripped down warehouse music world with the first two releases in their celtic numerals series. a tri continues the theme perfectly, offering up three more precision workouts for dark spaces pared down, atmospheric and totally absorbing grooves throughout! each release will be strictly limited to 300 copies, vinyl only. the series will run to ten releases in total, titled 1-10 in gaelic.

for now is the second ep by brooklyn duo beacon, five songs that continue the bands exploration of the dark spaces under the surface of human relationships. as with the bands debut ep no body, for now is a record that conceals a great deal of depth beneath a melodic veneer� again, there is a stark contrast between thomas mullarneys honeyed vocals and the words he is singing, although this time the mood is perhaps less sinister and more reflective.
