while the saying goes that writing about music is like dancing about architecture, this seems to be rather unfitting when it comes to artistic works like electric indigos release for the next installment on scr-dark series, the techno-leaning sub-label of berlins suicide circus club enterprise of over 20 years of existence.

mike wall has become a regular guest at the our club, the suicide circus, and this is for a reason. his sets are banging, and so are his productions. when rain falls on a1 is a techno monster with a daf-influenced bassline ripping it. the black chamber on a2 comes along as a dark and spooky tune with lots of playful sounds in it. on the b-side the black chamber is being turned into a superfunctional and effective dancefloor weapon by samuel l. session in his remix.

alexander kowalski is someone you should know. not only is he a resident artist at our club, but with uncountable eps and several albums on heiko laux label kanzleramt and others, he has contributed more to electronic music than many others. to have a separate platform for the darker and harder productions of his, he created the alias d_func. a while ago. when he approached us with the tracks that are now on the record in hand, we immediately fell in love with the mills-like energy of them. perfect drum programming, driving synth lines two perfect tools for any proper techno set. the dirt mix of revalism which is included in the digital release package puts the original in a more modern jacket with its stompy beat – another proof of how well alexander knows what the djs need to please their crowd.let the dancefloors burn!

samuli kemppi played live twice at suicide circus, and since his energetic sound really fit well with our club, we started talking to each other about a release on our dark series imprint. so here we go now, after releases on labels such as prologue, mote evolver and perc trax, samuli kemppi now is ready to rock your boat with three tracks on our label, which define a very particular sound of their own. last day on earth brings samulis apocalyptic vision to the dancefloors. dark hisses, well scaped spaces and a hookline with the pull of a spacecraft make up for a track that with no doubt will be one of the techno anthems of the next months. a killer of a track! on the b-side spacing has similar sound aesthetics as last day on earth, but comes along more playful whereas calling approaches the apocalyptic theme from a very different angle. bleepy synths over a banging beat let you think of laser shots in the dark, haunting and scary.

bill youngman has been around for almost 20 years with releases on legendary labels like serotonin, scandinavia and tresor. he crossed many styles from melodic electro to really, really harsh techno, but recently he seems to have found his very own personal style. the music he released on killekill in the last two years show a very singular approach to techno and electro. percussive, deep, melodic, toolish – all at the same time.

few people stand for a real underground approach to techno like adam x does. for over 20 years he has been right in the center of the scene. before moving to berlin he ran the sonic groove record shop in nyc for 15 years. the sonic groove label also owned by adam is still a dominating force in the scene and has released music of legends like abe duque, blake baxter, frankie bones, kevin saunderson and many more. with djing, producing music adam in recent years has received a lot of support from people like chris liebing and many others for his productions as adam x as well as for his aliases traversable wormhole, admx-71.adam’s sound is dark and heavily influenced by his passion for industrial and old school ebm music. with coercive persuasion on the a-side he combines these influences with a functionality that can only derive from his extensive touring as a dj and live act. it is a dark anthem that will destroy all real techno floors. no doubt. the b-side deprogramming sequence comes along with driving bells that give the stomping beat of the track a little uplift and therewith balances out the heavy dark side of the ep.

suicide circus records is a new label connected to the berlin club suicide circus. the label represents the club in all its musical facettes, ranging from house and tech house to techno and all its derivates. mathias schaffhauser is a regular guest at our club. with nuevo romance he has delivered a funky theme for the late night romantics. falko brocksieper, also a regular guest gives us something for the birds, a classical house piece with beautiful chords. beni is one of our resident djs, a true school tech head. his track growth displays well his approach to the dancefloor, dark and functional. last but not least d_func. vs mario berger show off with a strong techno tool. d_func. is alexander kowalski’s alias for his raw techno output and despite of the raw apporach to this dancefloor monster you can well feel his professionality in production.

with a history going back more than 20 years, suicide circus is one of the most established clubs for electronic music in berlin. several djs of international reputation have started their careers in the small, dark and sweaty first venue. several locations later the club still exists and boasts a million hot nights and a constant contribution to berlins vivid scene.
this cd is one of 2 cds which we are releasing to share the sound with you that we love so much. this cd stands for the brighter musical side of our club, mixed gently by our resident dj sqim, to bring back all the memories to the uncountable incredible moments under our typical parachute. all artists featured in this mix are regular guests and part of our club and give us our musical face.
