new 7inch from the mysterious gitkin, who crisscrossed the us in the late 70s selling knockoff gibson guitars to the diverse & disparate groups of immigrants from all four corners of the globe who were coming to the us during the 2nd great migration. recycling and filtering the sounds he encountered through his own psychdelic lens, he created a sound rooted in other, but deeply his own. this single is taken from his forthcoming album, 5 star motel and features two tracks from the album grand street feast which charts a sand dusted, melodic funk misadventure, while cancion del rey has the sound of the peruvian chicha steady-moving, alluring, and lyrical winding its way through gitkins fuzz-filtered licks, and the rhythm underpinning.

by all rights, the name chevals might be a new one on a few folks out there. but, we encourage you not to confuse pedigree with quality of output because with chevals the two go hand in hand. his first two outings on homage & better listen records soared to the top of the sales charts and we re stoked to finally release our 10inch with him to help keep the momentum for what is sure to be a successful run for the french beat-smith.

crackazat returns to local talk with a second single from his album rainbow fantasia. this time two of the stand out tracks sundial and holding you close get the remix treatment by groove assassin and waajeed ! first up is nick moss aka groove assassin, his take on sundial is a rousing rhythm of soulful house that comes bumping in. he kept the essence of the original track but also added some lovely keys, it sure hits that sweet spot and you re hooked for the full seven and a half minutes. on the flip former slum village and platinum pied piper beat maker and producer-extraordinaire waajeed turns holding you close into something imaginative with its layered percussion, jammed keys and vocal arrangement. its every bit as clever as you d expect from a producer that always approaches music with a fresh perspective. to complete the package is also the original of holding you close.

wonderful 70s work from tom ze! the record’s a bit more straightforward than some of his other records from the decade, and has a number of tracks with a samba sound at the base – but there’s more than enough fantastic material to keep the record fresh, and tom’s writing is as great as ever. there’s a vocal group that sings with ze on many of the tracks on the record – but they also seem to sometimes act as a greek chorus, in response to breakaway vocal passages that are dominated by ze. includes the excellent baroque funky number “dor e dor”, plus the tracks “sonho colorido de um pintor”, “a baba”, “o sandalo”, “a briga do edificio italia com o hilton hotel”, and “happy end”. pressing on 180 gram vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.

in those times of newfound experimental conformity, it is sometimes needed to go back to simplicity. this may be where dj oil is leading us to. you think you know what you can expect but common ground is not always in your head, it is sometimes under your feet. this is the second 12inch of the bref avenir collection (to be released digitally later this month), our southern activist using well-known tropes and samples to provide necessary confusion. telephunk is nothing else than a monster breakbeat funk (away from the new lynn collins dictatorship), unfashionably cool if you see what we mean. if paresse is its twin dark sister, locking electro in its black music roots whilst remaining strangely european, then fall is its downer baggy brother.

the king sporty reissue series continues with the lesser known, but no less worthy, rock attack. this first time release of the song under the king sporty name having previously only been released as by the vocalist in the ex tras, johnny griffin brings in to focus the breadth of music, numerous alias and versions used by noel williams on his konduko label.

baptiste letertre is ringard and comes from rennes, britanny s biggest city with a strong electronic music culture. ringard has a label called dance around 88 because he was born in 1988. ringard released 8 vinyl records. -lacrima rossa- is his first 12- outside his own label so it s a great pleasure for us to have him on board. ringard music is deep but raw, woolly, melancholic yet emotional. think soulful techno, steamroom slo-mo, warehouse heat and euphoric minimal. morphine electronics at its best with amazing strings and killer frequencies like lobster theremin meeting boards of canada in a fantasy balearic island. in french, ringard means tacky or outdated. it has never sound so cool being ringard!

a lot of inigo vontier s early material was confined to the digital realm, but now the mexican dj and producer is starting to get recognition on wax for his heady brew of old methods and a taste for the freakier end of the party spectrum. this 12- for mexican label calypso leads in with the strangely unsettling but strident -wirikuta,- before the snappy surge of tightly wound tech variation -marakame- comes leaping into ear shot. -maxa- marks out its own unique space with a heavy broken beat excursion, leaving it to dreems to ruminate on -wirikuta- for a closing remix.

back in 2001 robi insinna founded the seminal relish label in direct response to a then- dominant sound in club music. its catalogue is as vast as it is varied and foreshadowing the music he d go on to make himself under headman/manhead. fast forward to 2018 and after more than a decade he s on the move again launching new project label, industria with not quite an album, not quite an ep, hard work. robi felt there was no reason to split projects the way he did with his aliases and as such the debut will be released under robi s own name.
industria will be focused more on vinyl releases, but not solely vinyl. the project will encompass all area s of robi s work and ties together elements of his art and visual design projects.

backed with strong remixes from dustin zahn, cosmin trg, & doubt, one step ahead is the massive vinyl debut from gabriella vergilov. her refreshing take on techno is a perfect match for enemy. gabriella is an upcoming bulgarian artist based in belgium who rides the fine line between house and techno. her music was recently included on dvs1s fabric 96 mix along with the soundtrack for a film entitled >le fidele.< reach out to me and one step ahead break away from the dark techno norm in favor of a more delicate and emotive approach. emerald drops the percussion altogether, but locks the listener in even deeper with its highly hypnotic groove. on big room duty for this release, dustin zahn delivers an acid-drenched rendition featuring his trademark groove while maintaining the originals feminine undertones. meanwhile, cosmin trg turns in a unique remix that can only be described as heavy and arcane. mistress records and dont be afraids doubt finishes off the package with a very deep and dubby remix which stays true to the originals vibe.

exos label x/oz continues to grow as a distinct voice in the world of minimal techno, this time around inviting russian producer nikita zabelin to explore his sound with a sizable ep of finely crafted techno and thought-provoking ambience. -confusion- is a consummate slice of hypnotic techno crackling with heavily processed energy, while -pluton- drifts into rich beatless territory. there s more experimental fare afoot with the fractured tumbles of -curtains-, but -trans siberian express- is on hand to lock things back into a sturdy rhythmic framework. exos also takes the time to remix -brooklyn train- into a noirish dub techno workout.

second transmission from distant worlds comes courtesy of derek carr (for those that knoe, where we met, why so series). his music has been turning heads since the turn of the millenium but only in the last few years has he been getting the recognition he deserves. his productions have a timeless, celestial quality and reward multiple listens, there is always a hint of subtle beauty about his work and this is no exception. scisor and wraith are built for the club whilst fading fast and sunrise in system will work equally well in a club or for home listening. more than a nod to detroit in these productions but all unmistakeably carr productions.

iii is the third studio album of the spanish act we are not brothers, their style is an amazing mix and match between post-punk (more punk than post) and industrial experimental techno making of them one of the most interesting and suprising proposals in the spaniard electronic scene, prove of that is the high interest of spanish main press on their -surely not for all but completely new and different- work. -iii- will be presented on 12&#8243, ep format and produced in a one-off truly limited edition of 300 copies lacquered pressed on 180 gr. high quality solid black vinyl. printed with deluxe silver metalic ink. includes printed innersleeve. all tracks have been specially mastered.

the second release in no bad days’ sister imprint no bad edits comes from montréal upstart unknown mobile, who first caught our ear with a lovely debut on asl singles club. here, he looks to the 1980s for inspiration, channeling that decade’s confidence and colour with three shimmering reworks. the a-side’s “dream state” matches its namesake, evoking a busy fourth world market scene, with pipes, bells and flutes chiming away in happy harmony.
on the flip, “programmer” is a slab of excitable and effects-slathered fusion funk, as if a computer has sprung to life and begun to dance. the 12” wraps with “valerian slip”, where unknown mobile folds the strands of silk from a free-form windham hill deep cut into a new shape, every bit as smooth as the original but with a nagging groove to underpin it.

ghana s dj katapila is back with more minimalist dance music productions, this time inspired in part by his travels overseas. following the success of the re-release of his trotro recording a couple years ago, katapila has been playing in europe and the uk, bringing his style of breakneck-paced, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink west african club music into a very different conte, giving katapila (real name ishmael abbey) inspiration in the kind of music he has heard in places like london. so he made some new music, here we go!

as the lead singer of george darko s legendary burger-highlife hit-band, lee dodou became the number one voice of 80 s highlife. born in kumasi, the epicenter of ghanaian highlife, he came to berlin in the late 70 s - by then the uprising epicenter of burger-highlife - to work as a back-up-singer for pat thomas. after joining and leaving georg darko and running his own band -kantata-, he stopped releasing music in the early 90 s. now, philophon is proud to present new recordings of his soulful genius to the world of 2018. basa basa is a song in the classic -concert party- style, as it was played in the glorious 60 s. after a firey horn introduction lee takes over in that funny and entertaining manner typical for -concert party- music. buzz duncker joins lee s phrases with some gentle clarinet. highlife at its best! sahara akwantuo is anything but a classic: it s the start of a kind of philophonic highlife, labeled as kraut-life. ghanaian love of life meets german romantic melancholy. happy rhythms meet mysterious synth landscapes. eternal summertime and mangos are meeting a wet winter world and roast apples. kraut-life at its best!

celldod is swedish producer anders karlsson. anders has been active in the music scene for some time working on different musical projects, always with a strong diy ethic his celldod project has released several cassettes under his own label brutal disciplin and has also released records on suction records, kess kill and femur records. in 2017 anders released an album under the name vargd?d on opal tapes together with swedish techno artist varg. anders hardware driven sound has evolved over time now personifying finely sharpened ebm and techno crossover of the highest calibre. with a nod to the greats but with a forward thinking direction, we have four new cuts to destroy the darkest dance floors. relentless, bass-heavy and blown-out bangers. fans of daf and maybe 242 meets silent servant will be blown away. mastered by martin bowes at the cage, uk.

coldgeists music on unknown bodies is an intimate reinterpretation of coldwave, techno and dark ambient codes, uttered with strength, guts, and an underlying romantic soul. inspired by nocturnal runs of bosozoku bikers clans, who stem from this japanese subculture of the late seventies , coldgeist has created a series of soundscapes and songs that evoke speeding through foggy nights and fluorescent lights. haunting repetitions and stiffness of the rhythms as a metaphor of mechanical gestures, of bodies turned into units of consumption, stranded from the life and passion they crave. the frustration of a youth that only finds relief in extreme experiences, danger, and the sexual tension of speed and crashes. with analog and digital instruments, field recordings but also his own voice and songs, coldgeist has bred a truly unique record.

yeelen is a brand new project forged in the heart of a forgotten past. joe drive, of lux rec fame, and maurizio martinucci aka tez aka pragma have joined forces to sculpt, in their own words, -sonic constructions that transcend the canons of electronic music.- a bold statement, but then again this is a pretty bold ep. -techno tribalism and ritualistic soundscapes- are the bedrock from which this partnership cultivate their sound. figures and forms of a bygone time are conjured through intoxicating drum patterns, lost lands of dense jungle and windswept hills summoned through loops and samples to ensnare and entrance. polytheism explored through the prism of a polyphonic synth, mysticism born from machine drums, -ethnosonology of the future.-

chuck cissel, from tulsa, oklahoma, recoded just two albums in 1979 and 1982 respectively, both for arista at the time and reissued together on cd by expansion in 2014. he is best known in disco circles for ‘cisselin’ hot’, but over the last two decades has become renonwned for “don’t tell me you’re sorry” in northern and crossover soul circles. today it is his most sought after record, orignal copies worth £150. the track is also written about in richard searling’s new book “putting the record straight”.

next up on yoruba is this split release. glasgow’s vince watson invites us to a new dimension with his contribution. another rendezvous says it all atmospheric and carried by simple chords that float over the four to the floor pulse. think movement and formation. depending on your relationship with the universe, one might be able to feel the colours of this track, greens and blues. pensive with just enough edge to secure a commitment from the seasoned djs ear, this one is steady with a sexy incline that holds you through to the other side. come ride. its bold to build a song around a steel drum and a west african shekere, but that’s where it starts with dakota’s ‘make it better’. a gorgeous soulful house track featuring the vocals of dakota and osunlade’s vocals layered and arranged behind and throughout. the groove is a rich and well-constructed song with carefully considered lyrics that speak of longing, praise and caution. listeners hear the echoes of latin accents that call us into to reflection and flight. surrender your hands in the air for this dancer friendly love gem that stretches beyond cliche lyrics. yoruba records delivers another high-quality soundscape that measures across time and space

giorgio gordano and giorgio dolce originally produced kkk back in 1983, and the track was taken into the hearts of the blossoming balearic scene hovering around dj alfredo at amnesia. its as gentle and sweet natured as italo disco can be, and of course it makes perfect sense that best records would dig it out of the archives and give it the shiny new reissue it deserves. the club mix of kkk is a feast of simple, charming programmed melodies and crisp drum machine rhythms with the innocence of the early 80s in its heart. the dub mix and bonus beats on the flip are handy for the technical djs out there, but the club mix is where it s at for the lovers.

one year into his music production career, whb is the startling debut release from brooklyn’s kellen303. a unique hybrid, the tracks are inspired by goth rock/industrial, footwork and vogue music. it’s perhaps a happy but unlikely accident that they also fit into keysound recording’s dark, rolling uk sound. across five tracks, four cut to vinyl, kellen303 maps out his unique but bleak vision.

another alias returns with the second installment of white of my eyes. wome002 continues along the path laid out by 001, but takes it a step further into varied moods from the sledgehammer-esque -heave- to the melancholy -creep on the couch. while keeping with his off-kilter rhythms and erratic synth work.

terje saether and robert solheim met at a party they both played at, clicked and started playing together. this soon lead to this, their first collaboration. dinky, of norway and fredrik bekkaasen loved the project and was happy to contribute with their remixes. this is the result, the ep tres hermanas . the fourth sister, dolores, disappeared along the way, but will hopefully return for the digital release. finally the four hermanas will be reunited.

helena hauff s mighty return to disorder is back with a various artists 12inch packing phasers set to slay. lft is as evil as it gets on flare, dropping the kind of sleazy, bunker-ready, acid inflected electro that darkroom dreams are made of. marc ash has an edgier tone, maximising the distortion but also capitalising on uneasy space in the mix on grimy workout beirut calling. morah sends things in an airy direction on cold water, building up layers of noise but maintaing a strange air of optimism. hauff herself lands the b2 slot with a curious belter that channels the spirit of 90s midi game soundtracks amidst searing arepggios and a bloated kick.

after gunnar haslam inaugurated kalvanic languages with his deep-minded techno styles, now it s up to supposed newcomer bill westerby to follow up with another round of elevated machine learning. k-stream was a smart choice for the lead track, bubbling along on a warm acid line and shuffling a wealth of dubby processing around in the middle distance. down a back alley in cholon is a slightly more wound up affair with a bleepy lead and a firmer jack powering the drums, but the end results are actually more meditative than that description might have you believe. caye de crabe is a more overtly tripped out affair with polyrhythmic phrases weaving in and out of each other while westerby lets rip on the parameter tweaks in a fine display of machine wielding prowess.

following up his now sold out redef debut (1996 beat tape, vol 1), veteran producer dj spinna returns with another wave of hard hitting instrumentals. entitled, unpicked treats volume 1, the “jigmasta” spinna has prepared the first of an ongoing series of beats that all have a similar story. making tracks for well over 2 decades, this latest project features a small collection of beats that were created with the intention of backing mc’s and vocalists, but were never officially used. rather than archiving the material, dj spinna realized his fan base would appreciate these compositions in instrumental form. after all, he is the same producer who has garnered respect from the likes of j dilla, pete rock, jazzy jeff and yes, the one & only stevie wonder himself. without giving too much of his process away, spinna challenged himself using the latest cutting edge software in tandem with some of his favorite gear from over the years. the end result is a glimpse into the spontaneous execution of top notch creativity. listeners will have an unobstructed view into the ears and mind of the artist. employing several different approaches, unpicked treats volume 1 maintains a consistent vibe throughout it’s 12 songs. whether, you love beat tapes, instrumental music or are entertained by the art of sampling, this record is a commodity. plans for volume 2 are already in progress, but in the meantime, be sure to get acquainted with unpicked treats volume 1 and the genius of dj spinna.

the third release on mdrnty rec comes from a longtime favorite and friend of the house: mr. guillaume & the coutu dumonts mostly known for his productions on musique risquée, circus company, oslo or for his many other projects and aliases! our fellow canadian has crafted this ep specially for us and we are happy to welcome him on the label. on remix duties we have argentinian ernesto ferreyra (partner in crime with guillaume in the project chic miniature)! this release is a deep excursion into the groove of house and the hypnotic beauty of techno. it is designed for those late hours when everyone is dancing eyes closed, digging a little deeper into the moment! modern sublime is a long burner cinematic piece of music with its guitars, epic vocals, drum fills and acid bass lines. this track has it all and skillfully drives the tension high as the story unfolds! landing on the b side showcases a very different but equally hypnotic face of this talented and longtime celebrated producer, with its arpeggiated melodies and lush pads guillaume guides us to safe ground with this beautiful and precisely calibrated track full of emotions! last but not least, ernestos remix reconfigures the rhythmical structures of landing and masterfully transforms it into a peak time house gem, guaranteed to move any living soul in the dance floor.

the tireless and titanic dance figure that is dj t. is next up on seth troxler’s essential play it say it label. dj t. has done it all in his long and storied career, from setting up one of the most influential labels in get physical to founding groove magazine via opening the monza club and, of course, serving up always inventive eps and lps on the best labels of the day. his sound has evolved through many house, disco and tech styles and has kept him an in-demand dj for more than 25 years. these new missives are yet more proof that few know how to work the floor as well as dj t. the perfectly menacing keep it close kicks things off with a dark, snaking bassline underpinning freaky synth stabs. the pressure builds throughout and will have the crowd locked in before it pulls back and builds again with a masterful grasp of mood. hitting much harder is the excellent the day it all started, a more physical house track with solid kicks is designed for maximum impact in the club. tumbling bass and gurgling synth riffs flesh this one out and ensure it is a real piece of dynamite. last of all is the retro-tinged 1988, with its tightly programmed drums, slick claps and spraying acid line. its a wild track to get the freaks out of the shadows and on to the ‘floor. this is a fresh ep that offers three very different but equally effective club tracks that are sure to blow up in the coming months

after a year’s hiatus optimo music disco plates returns with the first of several planned releases.
first up is long time friend phil kieran with an ep made specifically with optimo in mind. it has been tried and tested over recent months and more than ticks all our boxes. we feel confident it will tick yours too.
phil says “the ep was recorded in my house and made up of mostly live percussion performed live by thomas tettey annang. originally from ghana, he moved to belfast some years ago. it just so happens his wife is a close friend of my sisters and that was the first introduction. thomas now runs -releasing rhythms” here in belfast teaching drum classes.
we used a wide selection of traditional african drums that all have their own name, each one has a style and a sound. the rhythms used in this record would stem back to south american rhythms but using african drums. this was a sound and rhythm that influenced early post punk records in new york and still has an influence on dance music today.”
