the maghreban returns to r&s for a new single following his dark debut album 01deas, perhaps with an icier sound. monster vip is a reworking of a double time rap track from the maghrebans strange u side project he added breaks and rolled it out. end level bosses lurk. beware of the monster. rave navel-gazing back to his roots: his first ever release was a jungle 12inch in 1994. early support from ben ufo. on the flip, batu (timedance/xl) offers up crisp percussion and ominous sound design in his energetic 140 remix of album opener eddies. then the ep is closes out with carpet bombing, the title of which references the producer adding more and more notes to the main percussive motif as it builds and builds.

exos joins forces with gotshell a.k.a alessan main, the great ambassador of the colombia electronic music scene for the fifth release on x/oz. the pair met in colombia made the decision to make music together. over the next weeks they travelled together in colombia getting inspiration from the colombian spirits. the pair also teamed up with maayan nidam for a true jungle remix to go along with four original tracks with sounds that originate and fluctuate with the deep spiritual entities of colombia.

harlems legendary disco label queen constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades. one of many labels operating under the equally legendary p&p family of imprints land of hits was operated by one peter brown, a truly colossal figure in nycs music scene, its catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. covering a wide range of styles including gospel, early rap and disco the label s output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected dj s and selectors across the globe. mistafide s colossal old-school rap behemoth equidity funk has long been a record that makes the serious collectors salivate and is now here in full 12inch form repress, too legit to quit. not much is known about the crew behind mistafide , their government names are listed online but this is the only record they put out using this name. suffice to say, this has no impact on the fury and style with which the mc s deliver their raps, backed with the studio nous of impresario peter brown. across 12 minutes equdity funk is a slamming disco-rap monster, interpolating elements of the evergreen b-boy jam theme from swat it sounds like everyone just got into the studio and went for it. in the style of the times this is the real hip-hop flavour, a live band, some mc s and some death defying bars being dropped, proper old school. a truly rare recording, equidity funk has been one of those records fans of the disco-rap era have been fiending for for decades - often commanding prices over the $1000 mark you can now grab this slice of essential nyc street funk.

when i first stumbled across mix tapes out of hamburgs seminal front club (with klaus stockhausen and boris dlugosch at the helm) during the glorious and carefree early days of the popularized internet, there were certain tracks on them that struck a chord. in fact there was one specifically, i couldnt stop listening to. the mixture of an infectious bass line, a super sharp snare, music and harmony vocal snippets, happy claps and synths lines that evoked pictures of a convertible going down a coastline, and - to top it all off - a tribal chant, was irresistible. after some intensive track-id-hunting pre-shazam, i found out that the heaven-sent hymn was music by an act called syncbeat. originally released in 1984 during the craze that was called uk electro via street sounds resp. streetwave and later licensed to german omnivore zyx records. a joint venture between the electro-funk mastermind,dj pioneer and edit maestro greg wilson as well as manchester musicians martin jackson & andy connell, it is exactly that type of dance track that eludes any classification - as you can see from my description above. or to cite greg wilson himself from one of his essays on the subject of uk electro: the track that received the best response was music by syncbeat, which was full of good vibes and could have easily been re-vamped down the line as a house track.

master of the moon much like the title, master of the moon has been created very much in a spacey, dreamlike disco influenced vein. perfect for any cosmic dancefloor trip. egarrr! egarrr! provides full on cosmic / disco infused full workout. a cheeky rework on a track of yesteryear, egarrr! is set to alight dancefloors across the country. glitter in the dark with the main hook taken from an iconic speech, glitter in the dark very much sticks with the common galactic theme of the ep. heavily driven by a moog synth-line, this track is set to take dancefloors to another dimension.

next up on nang it is time for a slice of spot-on male vocal house and disco. liverpool based thomas lang made some fine albums in the 80s and 90s with john murphy (who went on to carve a highly successful career in movie tracks) and david hughes. somewhere in between that and a string of recent albums (“torch songs” and “the german alphabet”) he also managed to buy one of the finest recording studios in north west england, parr street studios (the “abbey road of the north”). we are pleased here at nang to see a new avenue turned in tom’s life, his first foray into the dance world. “scared” was written with late liverpool songwriter john uriel quite some time ago. it first emerged as a b-side to tom’s comeback single “august day” in 2011. here at nang we always loved the smooth and sophisticated vocal and melody. when tom suggested some remixes we were on board.

there is some serious music coming out of nz right now and has been for a while and these tracks are of no exception. this ep has a very sonically pleasing sound about it all coated with an industrial vibe. from a main room club banger right through to the early morning dark twisted -i have had way too much of a good night- tracks this ep really does push the boundaries and brings something new and refreshing to the table.

after a triplet of solo 12inches, all courtesy of label main man rupert marnie, hamburg-based imprint the press group are set to break 2018 in with the multi-flavoured tpg004 - a versatile debut va that offers a fine close up on the labels whole cast of operating forces with some choice contributions from tpgs core tetrad including youthman(29), ten letu, dj dodo and marnie himself. mind your backs! shape-shifting yet coherent as a whole, this collective effort puts together a swinging confluence of sounds and aesthetics clearly aimed at the dancefloor but equally poised for laid-back chill sessions. first release on the label to reunite the entire crew, tpg004 mashes up a wide-spanning array of grooves and tempi in exploded view, giving full vent to each artists idiosyncratic universe whilst establishing a hyper-modern sound id, both infectiously funky and undeniably potent. casting its net far and wide: from the pared-down astronautical breakbeat of youthmans ‘aemilia to dj dodos breezy jacking jazz-footwork hybrid ‘the machine via rupert marnies lithe ganjah-smelling shuffler ‘health and ten letus muscle-flexing acid roller ‘ah, you shot me!, its a feast of feelgood beats that youre invited to, neatly connecting the dots between the guys shared love for video game soundtracks, liquid dubstep, heavy jungle breaks, minimal house and further daydreaming, hazy harmonics to drape yourself into. vital sales points: first 12? from the press groups whole cast of members including a locked groove on the b-side.
