up next on hot creations is intrepid spaniard dennis cruz. the award winning dj and producer drops some heavy hitting dance-floor dynamite this june, enlisting the production expertise of new yorks joeski for the remix. title track freaks is deep and driving, with its almost slurred vocal, its perfect for those 4am vibes when the freaks come out to play. mother f..cker utilises heavier percussion set off by a pounding bass. the joeski rework of freaks adds a dash of prominent high-hats with the producer softening that unmistakable bass-line. dennis explains this ep is the style of music that i love to play and produce. it s what i feel more comfortable with and what i think defines my sound. dennis cruz has been firmly implanted in the music scene from a young age. he got his first taste for playing music at the age of 17. since then hes gone on to produce tracks for prominent labels such as moon harbour, solid grooves, snatch! and nervous records. his records have been championed by some of the industrys hottest djs from jamie jones to loco dice, and nic fanciulli to marco carola

spanish label night shift welcome belgian duo chasse to drop some seriously classy dancefloor jams for those who really know how to move. pilot is an effervescent cut that places musicality at the front of the mix, all nimble keys and live drum funk of the highest order. dig him is an uplifting disco workout that loops it up in all the right places, and oh franck pumps the rhythm section a little more to head towards the house heads. in your stride is an unabashed reworking of boogie nights that takes on a dreamy quality as it chops the original into a fresh configuration.

next up on the ever-eclectic xvi records, a shadowy figure steps into the spotlight: enter the mysterious captain over, whose dark yet soulful bruk-infused tracks soundtrack the next stage of their voyage towards the sun. for his debut outing, captain over calls on the abstract vocal stylings of the legendary trim (roll deep, 1800 dinosaur) on opening track sick. showcasing why hes one of the most iconic and forward-thinking mcs to grace the mic, trims dulcet tones twist through a jungle of shuffled beats and subterranean sub-bass, an eerie child-like melody drifting overhead. clack clack and no one ever really flies inhabit a more dancefloor friendly space, their unique syncopation, fierce instrumentation and relentless energy open up the dancefloor for some real get loose moments. on the remix, they hand the controls over to xvi homestay books (following on from the success of his previous feel it in my bones and high praise edits vol 1 releases which won praise from the likes of the black madonna, moodymann, gilles peterson and seven davis jr) books expertly crafts a cosmic footwork jam, full of his trademark soulful chords and eerie midnight saxophone licks. as he prepares to launch his forthcoming ep no-one every really flies into the cosmos captain over is beginning to cement his place as one to watch in the uk underground a sequel ep featuring grime upstart nico lindsay is scheduled for release later in the year, with several more collaborative works in progress.

atangana records’s back with its second release, once again a long-awaited reissue, once again digging into the caribbean music with a classic track from les maxel’s (from guadeloupe), “le retour de toto”. as usual, the remastered tune comes with a remix and a b2 “just” coming with the remixer’s add parts. originally out in 1976, “le retour de toto” on disques debs international is a brilliant dancefloor killer, magnifying the cross-world between zouk and latino music, biguine and calypso. you can hear from the prominent hi-hat all the energy of the dance moves you could improvise on that kind of joint. with a lot of break, wonderful horns and backing vocals, “le retour de toto” will enjoy all the summer dancefloor and airwaves for some time

the essential will & ink label continues to keep up the pressure with a new ep from museum aka anton pieete and jeroen liebregts. the pair have released on vital labels like marcel dettmann records and indigo area and make some of the most robust and powerful techno around. their three new tracks here come with a remix from resident label artist yalessa hall. opener silo is an urgent groove with warped and rumbling synth lines and frazzled textures. it s sparse and industrial as it barrels along while the list is much more wild. the drums flail around, the hits are off grid and the energy is restless and rugged. lastly from them, 1500 has punchy drum programming and watery sound effects, sci-fi motifs and a sense of turbulence that will make a real impact in the club. the raw yalessa hall remix flips the list into a freaky house track with smeared synths and big hits making for something incendiary and unhinged.

contort yourself continue to widen their scope of operations with this, their first dedicated reissue, and they ve come in strong. eschewing the grotty industrial tones of many earlier releases, the label have turned their attention to dutch curio muziekkamer, who self-released a small clutch of cassettes at some undisclosed point in the past. the unthinking experimentation contained within these tape jams is shockingly prescient - jagged rhythms, surreal sampling, techno atmospheres and more from a period well before such tropes became common tools for electronic expression. take a trip into the vivid, imaginative and utterly unpredictable world of muziekkamer.

sharif laffrey can charm the snake out of any basket. this is his first offering for the esp institute. side as tangier is a long drawn-out exercise, an endurance test of the highest order. over the span of some thirteen minutes, elements bob and weave intermittently and layers overlap haphazardly the type of exciting dynamic that s born out of restrictio as if putting down a live jam without enough hands to work the console, yet sharif perseveres. as touch and go as this arrangement may be, there is something that undoubtedly glues it all in place the combination of his massive rolling 16th-note bassline and his tough-as-nails drumkit is so good that, upon first listen, we spat out our tea and insisted on its release. on side b, everything is nice carries on with loose arrangement, dirty production and layers of inexplicable spoken word samples (a sharif calling card by now) but this time we re lead to a melancholy place, the blue comedown to side as antagonistic trial. with his esp institute debut, sharif leaves you mentally unhinged, as if youve smoked something interesting and arrived bewildered in some saharan labyrinth. these two songs will guide you through the medina to score the black meat.

since the debut in 2011, the swedish music project pro424 has combined complex modular synth based sounds with strong melodies resembling the synth genre. at the same always with a firm stance in techno and underground culture and always with desire to perform the music live. the previous immune released in 2014, became one of lamours most sold albums ever and was compared to historic references such as tangerine dream and underworld, but also richie hawtin. the new album is a thematic prequel to immune and is set in a light and hopeful soundscape which for some reason collapses. behind pro424 is stockholm based artist and producer maximilian karlander, who aside from music is a bioengineer.

ok eg appears from out of nowhere in a haze of the mellowest ambient techno and downtempo delights for your mind to melt into. -creek- is a smooth but strident route in, the tidal lilt of the pads dissected by a finely paced beat loop that should find a comfortable home amongst deepest house heads. -colours- does away with the drums and uses a plaintive sprinkling of keys and delays to create an evocative backdrop for fragile females vocals. -reef i & ii- is the clubbier cut, rolling out over the b side with a looming monosynth bassline and some dub techno inflections making it a smart choice for warm up scenarios especially.

following on from the release of fba21 collected works 1996 -2017, which was released november 2017 matthew puffett decided to wrap up the project, with a handpicked selection of artists to remix key tracks from the compilation. amongst these figures are some significant influences on puffett s early years the set includes kirk degiorgio, whose reworking of ‘cross dissolve’ reimagines the track in full machine mode, serving up a slab of driving techno for the main room.

released in solidarity with tigas anti-tech house crusade, a silent campaign fought everyday on the streets of your hometown, blaze finds russian crypto-whiz dimitri veimar still dancing with the rawer-than-the-rawest-dog electro thats brought him to the dizzying heights of the mid-tier crags of mt. turbo mountain. throwing his weight behind what some in the media are probably already calling tigas war was absolutely necessary following the events of a recent gig in moscow. veimar opened the night by playing no fewer than three tiga tracks, which anyone whos read tigas taboos can tell you is definitely a tiga taboo. deeply immersed in the practice of pouring his own mineral water, tiga ignored the hootin and hollerin of the vips crowding the dj booth (including dennis miller and diego maradona), and proceeded to play a set entirely comprised of recordings of every embarrassing thing veimar had ever said in his life. four hours later, an emotionally-shot veimar collapsed into tigas arms, with the magnanimous label boss whispering, i forgive you, dimitri into his ear. the release also features a broken techno remix from mysterious european producer florian kupfer, who made us sign a non-disclosure-agreement dictating that we can only describe him as mysterious, enigmatic, and/or european, so well have to let the music do the talking.

more from the vaults of uprising with some previously unreleased dubplate mixes. the vocal cut is an alternate take with slightly different lyrics over a more raw, spare cut of the rhythm, sans synthesizer, which has been rarely, if ever heard. the dub mix on the flip was played on dubplate by jahlovemuzik back in the mid 70s. when one mix of a great tune is not enough, dkr is there.

when thinking balearic, there is a name that should strike you right away. no, not ibiza itself, but the man responsible for producing and curating some of the lushest sunset music the white island has ever heard steve miller, perhaps most commonly known as afterlife. making a name for himself in the early 2000s by playing monumental events such as glastonbury, headlining cafe del mars 20th anniversary party and reaching the top of the uk charts by remixing another chance from roger sanchez, hes managed a consistency unlike many others in the decade and a half since. releasing standout classic albums such as simplicity two thousand and speck of gold, his music has been released on the premiere labels of the time, such as hed kandi and defected, while also being featured on numerous compilations to date.

sweat it out up the perspiration levels to 10 with this modern day rework of kwanzaa posse s 1993 tribal infused musika , by the much in form yolanda be cool. a driving beat and dynamic bassline are interspersed with the posse s euphoric chants firmly placing this a dancefloor destroyer. the first of three remixes comes from babert. turning musika into a miami vice style synth laden boogie number, complete with uplifting piano stabs and a full bodied bass. flip it over and things get a little more sinister. both ideal for the basement club setting as much as they d work in the big room clubs. gotsome revolve their remix around the chopped up tribal chants of kwanzaa posse - enhancing the expansive build ups and breakdowns to new heights. to close it out, dateless strips things back with a huge pulsating bass / kick combo whilst dubbing out the chants to be dropped in at choice moments before those heavyweight drops.

tikita welcomes neel for a first release in collaboration with label mainstays natural/electronic.system. the four tracks here cover deep, rolling, dubby tribal techno. the opener is sparse and dark, gracida is more urgent and alien with watery droplets and wet melodies, then sinistra is mind melting and loopy techno that takes you into the cosmos. last of all, percussiva has supple jeff mills style synths warping round each other as heavy drums pound below. it is brilliantly consuming techno from some of the best in the game.

attention: the case has a broken corner. ltd 180 copies - incl dl code , this cassette collects some of these stills, or better said freeze frames. freeze frames that become almost landscapes that one can enter or not, listen closely to or use as mere background ambience. wilson went in and untied the knot, yet while investigating the situation, posing more questions. this is as open-ended a release can get, so captiously simple. i met andrew wilson, (aka berko, art wilson, andras), a few months ago in tokyo where we were both to perform on a sort of balearic ambient variety show in the heart of shibuya. at some point andrew was telling me about his interest in youtube videos of truck accidents, animals attacking people and bloopers. with creating one-shot samples of these sort of popular fringe finds he started creating long-form drones of harmonic beauty, without being overtly and subjectively emotional. wilson presented some of these pieces on said night in tokyo, in a dandyesque manner all dressed in white, sitting behind a small restaurant table

in ancient lddlm times, blddlm even, belgium could well have been the freaky house and ecstasy center of the world. if only we could remember all the lost hours. but after all, as the brussel saying goes: its friday, tomorrow is tuesday. at lddlm, we try not to reminisce, that was just setting the mood.we are very happy to welcome arthur johnson in our non-fold, a young producer from liege via marseille and la dame noir. aj is amongst those ever mutating artists, his u-turns slowly composing a real personality, and one fitting our contrarian attitude. in a way perfect stranger reminds us of a good 90’s farley/heller remix, not so much camp fire island than almost sweaty late night trancer. we love those tracks that do not fit our ethos a priori but that we can’t stop playing. cosmo vitelli is a long time family friend and he beams up this stranger through the axis into some kind of romantic italo-german anthem. ballada and secretary discordia show a different side of aj, a dub march echoing dif juz and a percussive machine funk number. we sincerely hope aj keeps on straying for the best, his way being our way.

fold edition , emotional rescue returns to the the work of remix specialists extraordinaire, razormaid, with a special collection of their remixes of cold wave / dark wave synth band, psyche. featuring unreleased, re-edited and remastered versions of some of the bands most club-based tracks on one ep for the first time. formed in 1982 in edmonton, canada by darrin and stephen huss out of love of the new electronic sounds emanating out of europe, psyche soon forged their own path. influenced by the industrial and post-punk sounds of bands like killing joke and alien sex fiend, as well as the synth pop melodies of groups like soft cell and yazoo, the brothers help precipitate the start of darker electronic goth sound.

hard times call for good music. this time around times are ruff (tar) dedicated their beat fabricating skills to a double ep for tomorrow is now, kid! the tink! project will put some raw, deep, soulful and garage tunes in your ears. as a dj collective, times are ruff is heavily influenced by the windy city, taking inspiration from the past, but never sounding outdated. focussing on long - preferably all night - dj sets in which times are ruff strives to set itself apart and tell a true musical story to the audience.

piano day is an official body created in 2015 by berlin-based composer nils frahm and his closest friends to house various exciting, piano-related projects for everyone to participate in.
the first project revealed by the piano day team in 2015 was the building of what will be the world’s tallest piano: the klavins 450, designed by piano builder david klavins who also created nils’s upright stage piano, the una corda. with over 70 per cent of the 120.000 euro target reached, the piano building is already underway and fans can continue to donate via www.pianoday.org.
it was on the 3.7 meters high klavins m370 that nils recorded eight improvised piano motifs in one sitting, which formed his 2015 album, solo.

the fifth release on the animals dancing label is a special one. sourced from recordings of a live set from 2014, animals dancing famiglia jonny nash & suzanne kraft (diego herrera) originally created these tracks in l.a. ahead of a series of live performances together. after some finishing touches made in jonnys studio in bali in 2016, animals dancing are very excited to finally launch these two to the club. za talent will see you now.

the remarkable thing about belp s new album is its two-dimensional function. it works both on a loud and a quiet volume. some tracks would go down well as a club track, like opener travelling thru galaxies . this track brings back memories of the best work released on the hyperdub label, with it s fine combination of synths and irresistible, dubby beats. elsewhere, off ending might start off as dancehall-but-not-quite dancehall track but when half way the synths kick in they change the feeling of the track to a more cerebral level.

the „here & now ep” is the second instalment of a three-ep-series coming up in 2018. christophe salin is taking us on his musical journey and paves the way for cooperation with future artists on his very own imprint „salin records” that he runs with his wife daria salin as a platform for electronic music and art.

no intro needed as „dreams sometimes come true” instantly takes us on the groove line. „astra perle” keeps the groove alive with some heavy jazz samples. you maybe remember sitting in your first car (christophe’s first car was named „purple pearl” and was an „opel astra “) and just cruising thru the city. imagine to be suddenly overwhelmed by a creative hole, „ohh no, not you “… turn over to „can you pay my bills” the journey continues with more jazzy vibes to end up with a downtempo lounge-dub-work which is indeed „different but sweet“.

frak – grown up guests
like a diy brick-shithouse frak feel like they are preparing for some nasty. kicking off the track with some serious drums. eerie synth lines and creepy bass pads lend for a slightly deranged and unsettling feel. there is a strange air about this track. tuff snares kick in that galvanise and ready the troops. the strange difference between the everyday title and the militant feel of the track makes for interesting concoction. its like a bunch of psychos preparing for a dinner party. sweeping the floor and combing their hair to precision. the house might look nice and the cake might be delicious, but these guys psychos.

jack pattern – kernkraft
kernkraft translates as nuclear power and from the outset reverberating sequences visualise a bleak working environment. mechanical sequences rotate. clouds of sparking particles swirl overhead menacingly. a kick drum stumbles into actions, the machine has powered up. cold hi-hats shimmer, and hollow synths give the feel of some sort of labouring workforce continuing their daily grind. this doesn t feel like a nice environment to live in and reflects the reality of some peoples everyday life. living to work for the greater good and sacrificing their lives in the process. it is a powerful piece. strong, monotonous and mechanical.

some of sb81s most distinguished work yet makes its way onto his future point ep, with dark soundscapes and tough breaks present throughout, etching the next steps of the wolverhampton based producers metalheadz journey.

madcap - river soul: this iconic track has been sought after for months after being hammered in the clubs by some of the top deejay in the world. the classic drums, are complimented perfectly by a booming 808 baseline, rhodes keys, echoing flutes, and sultry vocals that fit seamlessly into the groove. madcap has created an undeniable groove that will be played for years to come. classic!

not much to say about our 6th release, as the music speaks for itself. a heavyweight v/a with some of the finest artists of our scene, including bomb tracks from uvb, endlec, kwartz and, one of our all-time favourites, dj boss! proudly compiled and presented!

with pure nordic love, thorgerdur & a:g break out with their first ep together, setting the mood for their concept blossy with a blossy ep. radiant opens up the ride with an electric and uplifting atmosphere, before allure takes over with some tambourine-driven darker techno. on the flipside, the title track introduces a fairly epic theme on top of seductive rhythms with a strong bassline. coming full circle, tingling touches upon the more minimal side, providing trippy elements on top of low-swung 909 grooves, created with a good after in mind.

this is giles armstrong s debut ep, so we ll leave it to the man himself: -i’ve been dicking around the scene in some shape or form for the past twenty years or so. djing, promoting, dancing (you needed to have been there) eetc. but a couple of years ago i decided do the one thing that was missing from that list. to try make what the whole shebang is meant to be about, music. the thought of making tunes had crossed my mind down through the years but i was always too scared to start or never had the time. there was always a excuse handy, always.

following some now cult releases on mutli culti, turbo recordings (with the much-acclaimed “mz”) and his recent lp “lotos land” on japanese imprint endless flight, our favourite east-berlin born child sascha funke is finally coming up with an ep on hippie dance’s sister label your and your hippie friends. “i guess more than one of you have noticed my obsession with sascha funke’s music over the past years since it is an essential part in my dj sets. after the pause he gave his solo work to put his attention into his amazing band project saschienne together with julienne dessagne (aka fantastic twins, also his partner in life), he came back with a really cool ep on kompakt records which i played over and over and left me wanting for more. being close friends gave me the luxury of having access to his material before other people and when i would visit the coolest couple in berlin, sascha would always play me his new tunes in the car while rolling through the city. every time i would ask for those tracks to play them and in the club, people that i would play with would often ask who was behind them, as it happened with tiga one night in cologne, and eventually led to sascha’s music being released on turbo recordings and multi culti the following months. now i finally got the chance and honour to release a sascha funke ep on our own humble label... acatenango. like every time, it all started with me visiting berlin, sascha playing his new material while cruising around on board of his german car, me getting in trance while listening to it, asking for it and playing it right away in my next sets. three super cool tracks, all very different from each other but somehow connected with the inimitable funke touch. powerful yet elegant, hypnotic yet fun, brutal yet sophisticated. sascha funke... he’s a hippie and he’s a friend.” rebolledo

some used to think that here s a guy who s just too cute to be underground, but sebastien bouchet proved them all wrong - with releases like the trippy -fallen angel- ep (kompakt 210) or his gutsy contribution to kompakt s speicher series (kompakt extra 77). he also had a spectacular appearance on you and your hippie friends inaugurating release -a very nice combinado volume uno- (yayhf 01) with the tune -captain drag- - which went on to be played around the world, from clubs and festivals to chanel fashion runways. now, sebastien returns with coyote cry, his first full-blown ep for the hippie dance sister label: eclectic and unique, this five tracker reflects different sides and moods in his work, but always takes the momentum center stage - from the guitar-infused vocal shaker jambe de bois to the heavy-duty bass of jatagarazi or the melancholic drive of the glistening title cut.

“kindness” (a-side) takes you directly to an afrobeat-trip of 9 minutes driven by some interesting drums, definitely a peak time track that will deliver the afro-american vibe into the crowd. “looo” (b-side) is the early morning tune / stripped-back track with a pitched voice and rising production.

junes kicks off a new imprint, dote, with a full-length exploration of the direct yet dreamlike sound he s made his own. with his usual flair for crisp grooves and ghostly palettes, a view reveals a broader range of nuanced vibes. second wind and stop, elate show a playful buoyancy, and a sense of discovery in tracks like balancing act and two-sided embrace add a narrative pace to the collection. there s time for some of the creeping, spaced out atmospheres that hallmark some of junes previous best, but with tracks like packaging, the realisation of this sound is richer than ever. there s a restless feel throughout the work, too – especially evident in the closer spooked – and a feeling that we ve been on a trip that doesn t end here.

after their mental scapes and french kicks first eps on pont neuf records, french duo alva are back with a new 5-tracks maxi, steam lights, on their own imprint virage records. they carry on with in their deep/club vibe while bringing in some new and fresh sound designs. it oscillates between dreamy atmospheres ( all very slow , steam lights ) and hypnotical sequences ( mirage ), but there is an obvious common factor to the tracks : the groove, carried by strong basslines and punchy drums.-
