junes kicks off a new imprint, dote, with a full-length exploration of the direct yet dreamlike sound he s made his own. with his usual flair for crisp grooves and ghostly palettes, a view reveals a broader range of nuanced vibes. second wind and stop, elate show a playful buoyancy, and a sense of discovery in tracks like balancing act and two-sided embrace add a narrative pace to the collection. there s time for some of the creeping, spaced out atmospheres that hallmark some of junes previous best, but with tracks like packaging, the realisation of this sound is richer than ever. there s a restless feel throughout the work, too – especially evident in the closer spooked – and a feeling that we ve been on a trip that doesn t end here.
forceful grooves and trippy soundscapes here business as usual for junes, whose latest ep adds to a string of releases getting bagged by those looking to work the floor with tight and atmospheric rhythms. the galdoors mans flair for unexpected combos is on parade in circuit rift, where a uk-style low end is flung into the mix with rough drums and 4am melodics. there s a funkier bassline and rolling groove at work in awake, this time with rich layers of pads and blips. brass hand uses a different palette a sparkling, loopy riff and crisp drums though its still signature junes
for the 12th vinyl release wicked bass welcomes galdoors co-owner junes, who gives us the light again on his current music tastes through three rhythm driven, uk infected tracks made for the tight, sweaty dancefloor.
junes delivers another trio of distinctive, whacked-out shufflers to galdoors. first up its trails, stomping through glimmering, trippy textures with an emphatic groove. shift state brings dubby delays and heavyweight bells that bounce back and forth over another potent rhythm to heady effect. precipice makes use of a more menacing combo: clipped congas and swinging highs gang up with a bullish sub bass, before the icy pads grab hold
galdoors announces its 5th release, from label boss junes. after a run of successful eps featuring artists such as elgato, leif and audio werner, young uk producer junes steps up with three diverse cuts that push forward the labels emerging sound. despite its relative youth, the label has developed a distinctive aesthetic through minimalist, hypnotic house tracks that are making waves on both sides of the water, heavy support has come from big-boy jocks like ben ufo, daniel bell and mike huckaby. earlier this year, co-owner tamess gal004 release featured on joy orbison’s radio 1 essential mix and ben ufos dekmantel festival promo video, establishing the labels forte for delivering the best productions of its co-owners. gal005 is no exception, with junes developing his sound through an assured three-tracker. root pattern leads the way: a killer groove that cuts perfectly through an undulating melodic soundscape. on the flip, transfer bubbles over - playful yet threatening - and iced finishes off with a broken slab of soundsystem tension.
